[Synopsis]
The road to becoming an empress is paved with treachery. Ruyi (Zhou Xun) is a consort who quickly learns to navigate the treacherous politics of the royal court and move up the ranks. In all honestly I wish she would have remained angry at him I know that she did for a while but then forgave him after discovering the little things he did to protect her but still in my opinion he didn’t have to do what he did he could have found multiple ways to make it look like Ruyi was in arrest or something but it was a plan they could have made together so that she knew what would happen and have some control but instead he didn’t trust her he belittled her and made her suffer beyond imagination and I would have never forgiven him! If he has said the line I found it safest for u to be by my side I would have said pity u learned that too late and wouldn’t have let him touch me and asked him to leave saying that I was tired from the long years I spent in the cold palace making sure to use each and every word showing him my hated and anger over his actions.

I wish that she did not forgive him. By abandoning her, he showed negative qualities and traits about himself. He is wise in politics but horrible in preserving the lives of his family. What if she died in the cold palace?
She played the heart strings she was given. So when the heart starts out strong it's forgives the missed beats. But as it grows weaker it pines for what could have been.
In the beginning I kinda understand why he has to send her to cold Palace, I feel that at first he tried to stand up for her while being careful not to upset the harem. As a realistic lady, i would still try to bow down to the emperor simply because the life of my son and my entire clan is in my hands. I know that he has done alot of horrible things to her especially in his 'menopause' years, but some things could have been avoided if she did not expect much from him and become headstrong as a result.
For example when he tried to apologise to Ruyi after Consort Ling collected the late Empresses poems and caused a conflict between them, she kept being passive aggressive and was like 'I know I am not as virtuous as the late Empress'. He tried to console her multiple times even though his EQ is kinda shit but hey the guy above everyone try to apologise first, until he got pissed and let Hailan take care of 12th Prince.
but of course once all my obligations are gone like my kids all died and stuff despite me trying then ill just turn 180 degrees and tell him to f off
Historically, I would re-write her history and make it look like the Emperor helped her fake her death and the death of her servant so she could leave the palace and live as a free woman. In history, the Emperor erased her imprint in the palace Everything that she had was erased and portraits were altered in the palace. I am just so curious as to the depth of why you would do that...is it that you have extreme love and need to get rid of all evidence of that person or is it because he had hated her? Did he love her too much and couldn't deal with any reminder of her? I feel heartache every time she dies. I needed camera angles that shows the loneliness and despair of the Emperor after her death. I wish they focus more on his silent grief or sorrow.
@@honeybunny1of23 Honestly we will never know the truth, scholars can't gather enough evidence to conclude anything. I've seen arguments that say that he loved Empress Nala so deeply when she was Empress.
People arguing against attrbuting the cutting hair to Consort Ling were saying that she wasn't demoted immediately after the incident. She was escorted by an important official back to the Forbidden Palace, and the emperor waited for a few months (possibly hoping that she will make up with him) before promoting Consort Ling to Imperial Noble Consort. If he really wanted Consort Ling to replace the Empress he would have put her in charge immediately after the incident. Though I agree that the Empress was treated real badly after being imprisoned in her chambers.
Nevertheless she must have been driven to the point of insanity by the pressures of Palace life to even cut her hair, or else would try to coexist peacefully with the Emperor even if she didn't like him
