Some people may think about the emperor cutting his hair and putting it together with ruyi means their reunion in their death but it actually means the emperor finally let go of what little attachment he have to ruyi so it's like consenting to give his signature in the divorce she gave him and finally freed her completely while the green plums blossom symbolize the beginning of ruyi new life and that her life in this timeline is now finished so a new blossom sprouted and she finally ascended and reincarnated. The plum blossom was ruyi how her life and love withered and didn't bloom again until she had the chance to have new life and new beginnings and so new blossom sprouted to say that a new beautiful life is starting thanks to the emperor for letting go. So the emperor cutting his hair is his sincere gift and final atonement for ruyi which is quite big and heavy even though I still think he is a scumbag for what he did to ruyi.
I half agree with you. Ruyi died, many years later the emperor cut his hair to complete the divorce. Don't know what to make of the sprouts but feel it is solely in connection with the emperor.
You commented something about how she finally ascended and reincarnated, is that why he didn’t want to add his hair with his until his death so they would have a better chance at meeting in their next lives?
I like to think that he cut his hair to end their lives together in his current life, in the hopes of meeting her again in the next life to be brought together once again. Their circumstances, in my opinion, are truly what ruined them.
As someone who watched the whole series I just want to quickly advocate for the emperor. He’s a shitty husband i don’t deny it, but looking at the totality of his circumstances I could see why he progressed to this point. Which is more a testament to the writers because they were able to make a sympathetic villain. He loves Ruyi that is undeniable, but all the things happening in his harem have maybe jaded him. This is a guy who loved having children, boy or girl (even tho everyone in this time favors boys), but as a father he had to bury a lot of children who all died from sabotage, greed, fighting for power etc. In this time political aspirations in the court are advanced in the harem (women from nobility marry into the palace), making work life and home life inextricable. I think he witnessed and participated in one too many of these schemings for power, and he became bitter and suspicious. Seeing enemies everywhere. He was not like this as a carefree prince. This is what made this love story much sadder than him just being a cruel king. Ruyi understood and sympathized with him for a long time, until the straw broke the camel back because his conduct got more and more outrageous I see a lot of commenters hating him for not giving Ruyi a proper burial fit for an empress, but he himself explained to empress dowager = ruyi went thru so much trouble erasing herself from palace life, at the end of her life she did not see anyone except rong pei, cut out her photo, refused to the emperor a chance to say goodbye before she died - so he wanted to honor her wish and didn’t enshrine her with him (because spiritually that means she will have to be with him in the afterlife). She wanted nothing to do with him at the end, and he respected her wish.
Oh I didn’t know that giving her a proper empress burial meant she would be stuck with him in death that’s interesting. So maybe one save the cat moment but I still cannot honestly say that I will ever forgive him for how he treated Ruyi corrupted by power or not you still at the end of the day make a choice Ruyi made hers and he his
Wow I didn’t know that.... Can you explain why the emperor cut his hair at the ending scene too?? Is it because he will join her after death?? Or is it also represent the symbol that the emperor also “end the relationship” with ruyi??
@@someonetryntoberelevant420 My grandparents and their grandparents - so on so fourth - had virgin uncut hair. Since I was little,, our elders have advised the younger generation (my mom, me, and the younger generation) to never cut our hair because cutting hair is like cutting off your luck! The longer your hair, the longer your longevity/prosperous your life ought to be. But in ancient times, if one did, it was probably cut in mourning/viewed as a curse/jinx to another that death is around the corner. In the drama, ruyi mentioned that they had their hair intertwined in the beginning - that was a symbolic representation of the beginning of their union. And if you remember, prior to her cutting her hair, she repeatedly told him she was sick, and tired of being his empress, and was ready to leave. Cutting her hair marked the end of their union. But in this scene, he kept her hair and even added his right before he died. I'm going to go on a limb and say that he is celebrating their reunion in the afterlife. This is just my experience with cutting hair. I should also add that Ive only seen a few clips of Ruyi, so i stand to be corrected 😜
Even though he says nothing, I feel like him cutting that strand of his hair and putting it together with Ruyan's hair in the box is his way of saying ''Ruyan's I'm so sorry, please forgive me''. The way he is full of regret shows that it's basically the only way he found to seek Ruyan's forgiveness and gain her favor and forgiveness again and be with her one last time. REGRET is eating him up to the core and only death will release him from it. My God this drama is simply GLORIOUS!
I saw it as his hope that he'd see her after death. Since tying their hair together = marriage, it was his way to sort of undo all of the things she did to get away from him (divorcing him, burning the portrait, etc.) and bring them together forever. It's an ultimately selfish act, rather than a redemptive one.
@@blatherskitenoir I was want to asked what the meaning of cutting his hair and put it with Ruyi's, then I found this. So it kind of getting marriage the unbreak marriage before.
@@fluffygarden2629 in ancient Chinese, only husband and wife can tie their hair together, and symbolises their union. And since hair can only be cut in death, it also symbolises till death do us part. However many consorts or mistresses a man may have, only the real wife can have this union. Him doing that means he only sees her as his wife all these years.
Same here. It took me almost a year to finally watch it in its entirety. I knew what to expect and would be saddened, but didn’t expect how badly. My husband told me, “It’s a not real, you do know it’s a drama?” 😂😂 Yes, but I can’t help it .....😪
@@meimei1919 This soap opera comes from a piece of Chinese history. The story inspired by a blank page in the history of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Ruyi's prototype is the second empress of Emperor Qianlong, namely Hoifa-Nara, whose abruptly incurring the Emperor's disfavor and abnormal lack of recordings in Qing-dynasty's official historical documents remain a mystery.
cuz this drama is the continuation of "Empresses in the Palace" which was a huge success n made a lot of money, so they got a huge budget to make this drama.
@@SongShiyu Both series are based off of books by the same author. They are actual sequels, it is just that LHZ is changed a bit from the book and they further changed Ruyi's as well, so they loosely have it as a sequel.
Even after decades you can still see how empty and miserable Ruyan's death left him. She sure was a pillar in his life and it's so sad how it's only after her death when his life started crumbling and falling appart that he finally understood that. A man of such power could've easily found another empress and remarried but guess he never found the strenght to even think of replacing or giving Ruyan's position to another woman because he knew there has never been and will never be another one like her. Cherish what you have while you still have it. I almost felt bad for him and honestly. the imagery. the acting, everything is simply glorious and absolutely majestic. Great drama, I absolutely loved it.
The actual history is different This emperor actually has Consort Ling elevated to Empress after Ruyi died and Consort Ling's son became his successor like she wanted Then again this work was based off a fictional novel and It's too much to expect 100% historical accuracy But the scene in itself is done very well indeed
@@Jenneration95x She was titled as the Empress after she died. And her empress status was a posthumous given by her son after Qian Long died. And the actual history can be changed (and so I've heard) not most of the history is true as history can be changed by someone with power.
@@loeypop4194 Ling got elevated to an Empress posthumously in 1795 and Qianlong was still the Emperor at that time, hence it was Qianlong Emperor who elevated Ling to an Empress. Ling’s son only became the Emperor in 1796 and didnt even have any power yet until Qianlong died in 1799. Qianlong wanted to elevate Ling as an Empress after Step Empress died but there was a rule of no alive Han woman can become an Empress. Hence he only can elevate Ling to an Empress when her son already announced as the successor, therefore she qualified to be an Empress and no one dare to oppose the idea. You might misunderstood as it is stated in Wiki that Ling posthumous title got elevated in her son era. Jiaqing Emperor add ‘chun’ to Ling and Empress Xiao Xian’s posthumous title as they were the legitimate wives of Qianlong. Thats why after Qianlong’s death, Jiaqing Emperor elevated Empress Xiao Yi and Xiao Xian’s posthumous titles to Empress Xiao Yi Chun and Empress Xiao Xian Chun
There will be no one like Ruyi. And if reincarnation is true, I hope Ruyi will be loved by a man who will truly value her. Not the Emperor who only love himself.
@@murahomesa andddddd heaven is a myth. everyone does something bad in their lives so everyone goes to hell?😑 come on man, what are you, 5? different religions have different beliefs, learn to live with the fact that people can believe in whatever religion they want to.
Ruyi told him, "you never truly cared about the empress until she died" This emperor live his life pretending, pretending to love his wives even though he don't. So when they die, only then does he act sad and grieving even though most of those women died lonely.
Isn't what we all do? We don't cherish ppl until they're gone. Maybe that was the real lesson of this story; to love, appretiate and cherish those around us.
That’s applies to all..That is why a person should be comfortable being alone and enjoying your own company... At the end of the day, it will only be you to answer for the life you’ve led... Absolutely beautiful series.. Phenomenal acting...❤️
The last scene where a young Ruyi is walking is sad but at the same time peaceful. It shows Ruyi at a time before all the tragedies happened. I'd like to believe that the last scene was the emperor remembering Ruyi when they first met instead of when she was in the palace as his wife because that was likely the only time where there was no political or harem tension. A happy time where things were ok and they could love each other without problems. Maybe the plum tree finally growing represented the emperor finally realizing deep down that he was the one who messed up everything with Ruyi. While new life arises from the tree, the emperor dies alone with only his memories of a person who really loved him and his regrets.
The irony of this story to me, you toss out treasure for trash, but you die alone fixated on a stick that blooms after your departing. Such sweet sorrow.
Cutting one's hair and burying the hair is a Manchu tradition symbolising to be with that person in their after life. People usually leave a stranded hair with a deceased relative as if they'd be buried together. The emperor knew he couldn't' do that with Ruyi, so he cut off his hair and put it in a box with hers.
I just watched this season from beginning to end, and its the first Chinese drama that made me ugly cry. Acting was so good, costumes and sets amazing. If you love Yanxi palace I would still watch Ruyi, I would say I enjoyed Ruyi more personally :) The Emperor is a douche, but a complex character, its easy to hate him but remember this is based on a real emperor and the program explores the stupid crazy pressures of court life. Everyone was fighting to survive, and of course the program takes creative license! The Actress who played Ruyi was so beautiful
Living out his life until he was old and gray was the best punishment for him. He lived all those years in tremendous guilt knowing he killed the only woman who ever genuinely loved him. Well deserved.
The very last scene where it shows young Ruyi walking towards the camera..... makes me sad. It's like "There was a pure soul that always stood up for what's right and a patient and understanding wife. Never wanting anything in return. Never blaming the person for their wrong doings. A true goddess that once walked in this unforsaken palace and ruled along side a foolish king. Now no more." And the music doesn't help! 😭😭😭😭 and just remembering where this scene was really from, that time, her true intentions, the destination she was walking towards, the irony, the metaphor, so unforeseeing where she was heading. What she was walking into. 😭😭😭😭😭😭 she was so happy then. And so was Hongli.
I'm so sad that this series ended. But like how Ruyi says, flowers bloom and fall. Everything has its time. Thank you to Drama Forever for posting up this series, and thank you to everyone in the comment section that learned something new watching this! ❤️❤️❤️
@@never4ever386 I've watched some episodes fully, like the ones with the deaths (personal favorites) but I mainly watch these to get the context since they're never subbed well.
anyone else notice how good the shading of this scene is, when he is alive there is no music until he cuts his hair and in the beginning where there is not music it is dark, as if to show the emptiness he's feeling. then when he finally dies at peace there is light.
the flowers have finally blossom in the end on that dried tree, as one simple forgiveness from Ruyi to her unfaithful husband! after all, her love is too precious for him!
That particular type of flower’s name has a Chinese character that is the same as Ruyi’s given name in her youth; and she loves it. However it only thrives in the south. She brought the flower to the palace but it eventually withered and would not bloom again. In the end the flower starts to bud. I guess it is a metaphor saying that Ruyi forgave him and is waiting for the Emporor at the other side.
Someone said they thought it meant that Ruyi finally achieved her freedom because the plant wouldn't bloom because it was trapped in a place that it couldn't grow like she was. The blooming then would mean that she's finally free like she wished. And was reincarnated into a free woman
I believe the king does love Ruyi so much but because his pride is too big that he does not accept his mistakes and as Ruyi mentioned, the schemes can wear one out, so it makes him unable to see clearly the good and the bad, not to mention that he has to deal with political issues of the country and those cruel women at the same time. I am not trying to say he is right for doing those things to Ruyi. Maybe if only Ruyi is a bit more cruel toward those women than this, the ending might change. Anyway that is one of the best chinese drama indeed
I like to think that after he closed his eyes and passed away, his spirit went back to the age when he first married Ruyi. Imagine that he is riding a horse out in the countryside toward a little house where Ruyi is waiting for him outside with a smile. He’s racing toward her anxiously to love her like he really wanted to, with no distractions just as simple husband and wife. That would be their 2nd chance to do things differently.
It is not only his pride which drives her away. He has been consumed with power and lust since be became emperor. He needed to conquer everyone and every bit of Ruyi, leaving her without any dignity as a person. His paranoia broke her heart. He undoubtedly loves her but that love has been corrupted to an non-repairable stage.
The drama has ended. Wow it has been a rollercoaster of emotions. Can't believe it ended, im gonna be so lonely now😭 Thank you drama forever for posting and keeping us entertained 😊
He still love her and nothing could change it.he has been blind side until she died.that it hit him in heart that's when he realize that she wasn't coming back to him at all 😭.
Also, multiple wife means there will be more schemes for power. And more innocent baby killed. Bcz theres just so many heiress. The competition is tough
cybercats now that I think about. It’s kind of counter productive because they were all trying to gain favor and having kids was part of their downfall. The kids determined the future for some
Not even ashamed to say I spent the last 3 days binge watching this series who randomly came up in my RUclips suggestions. Wonderful casting (Ruyi was delightful), wonderful acting, wonderful clothes and quite the incredible story. Thank you Drama Forever! I'll eventually come back to watch it all over again for SURE.
The sad thing is. When the real Empress died the Emperor didn't go to see her and he said she died because of bad luck. He actually spent the rest of his life with Ling. She was the actually love of his life. Its interesting how Ruyi love portrays Ling as a villainess. But the Story of Yanxi Palace is from her prospective and The Empress is the villain. Both are amazing series.
Thank You very much. Yes I see how the story changes when told from another point of view. I have experienced that sometimes True Love is not appreciated. Ruyi told the Emperor that he did not appreciate the ones that were loyal and had truly loved him. I believe Ruyi suffered because she was the voice of reason. So we can also say there's always an excuse for bad behavior. Betrayal is difficult to overcome.t ✌😊
At the end of his life he sought after the connection he had with the empress, putting both of their hair togather so that he can meet her agin in the after life... Makes me wonder will she accept him there??
May be she had or may be by his death she was completely free?? Or may be becouse the emperor also wanted to be free... Don’t know.. This could be interpreted so many ways.... But the emptiness and sadness are still there...
Never get bored watching this scene soo emotional, shame his understanding of her pure love to him came too late to enjoy their lives together. Loved watching this, well done to the makers 💯
So in my opinion, based on how fast the last scene went when the emperor died, I believe that the little tree sprouted when he passed away. Like suddenly sprouted, immediately. And it sprouted because he was rejoined with the one he loved the most of all. And that she accepted him once again. You can see after he dismisses the servant that it’s still bare, in the time it takes for the same servant to return, it has now sprouted.
it has ended, let's rewatch it n cry again😭 the ending soundtrack was so majestic one of the reason I like this drama so much it's because it was so refreshing to see a tragic ending, it is unlike those cliche typical happily ever after drama, they are too boring and predicable. another reason is that it ties people around the world that are not native Chinese, although sometimes it feels a bit weird to see so many (in fact mainly) English comments discussing about a C drama lol Show us where you are from down below:
Hi True, it’s unique. But I don’t find those endings cliché. I for one think it’s satisfying and positive. Though tragic endings gets you thinking and reminds you a lot of important things.
I think putting their hair together was a hope/request to ruyi that he wanted to be together in the afterlife. He didnt tie their hair in a knot so it wouldnt be a demand or forced. In afterlife, it would be Ruyis decision if they would be together like in their youth when they were happy.
When you toys with human, in the end you are still just one miserable, lonely dude ruling over just human toys. No royalty, no loyalty, no happiness, no heartstrings. He manipulated, forced, abused, toyed a slew of women, but died longing for true love and true faithfulness.
True, but in the West, remember the story of Henry VIII. Henry wasn't actually allowed a harem, but he wanted to be sure there was a legitimate male heir. The future of the kingdom depended on the fertility and health of one woman, the wife of the second son of the man who had only just ended the Wars of the Roses. Henry tore England apart in whole other ways going through his six wives, jus to get an heir and a hoped-for spare. The harem of China was deeply exploitative, but the problem it was created to solve was real.
If you watch really closely at 6:42, the Emperor only exhaled his last breath after the servant said that the green plum has blossomed again. Also, the scene where the youthful Ruyi (or Qingying) walking towards the camera at the end can be interpreted either that she has truly become free and has returned to being the bold, cheeky young girl she once was before stepping into the harem, or that is the vision of Qianlong, now no longer being bound by doubts, duties and scheming with his death, is seeing the youthful image of Qingying whom he had spent the remaining days of his life reminiscing finally returning to him.
I like how you notice and point out some subtle things in this drama, really brings it to another level. Do you understand this drama without subtitles? In another comment you mentioned the change in pronoun in how Ruyi addresses herself in one of the last episodes. Thanks
@@beanetricemcdaniel249 Yes, that could also be a possibility. Myself though, I feel that when he slapped her he was as good as "done". Even though he had a harem he was acting shameful. Personally, I dont blame her for cutting herself out of the picture and burning it. I feel she had it with him.
FYI, history told consort nara married to hongli to Prince Bao (hongli's title when he was prince) manor as ashan i fujin (second wife/second consort)... And he wants to consort nara become empress after empress xiaoxianchun died... Btw, though the fact of poor burial, i think the fact of he once loved her may be true (why did you want someone you hated from beginning to become your empress? 🙄) It's a phrase told: the more you loved before, the more you can hate it if that cause pain to you (that will be more pain than whom you hated from beginning) This drama is one of drama that has most accurate story about qianlong era until now ("spices" are common in drama 😁)
But according to real history, the emperor went asked the passed empress for forgiveness through prayer and told her that the reason he chose a new empress was because of the empress doweger.
Contradictingly, Empress Ulanara or Hoifa-nara was the only empress in Qing Dynasty had a crowning ceremony at the front court. The level of ceremony/rituals were among the highest standard. One could not help but wonder if that also means that there was a time Emperor Qianlong truly adored or even loved her.
This is an awesome production. Kudos to Director and entire cast for the flawless performances. It was pure delight to have viewed each episodes. To take us back in time, artifacts, wardrobes, epoc what absolutely devine. Most enjoyable and pleasing to the eye, very well done indeed. So fine, spectacular, outstanding. Merci, thank you,

Concubine Ling's son Yong Yan became the next emperor. The very old Qianlong still control the power despite his son already the emperor, until he died several years later. During his elderly day Qianlong makes mistake of trusting a very corrupt politician, this marks the start of the fall of Qing Dynasty. Historically, Yong Yan is a mediocre emperor compared to his forefathers. After Qianlong passed away YongYan quickly kill the corrupt politician so he could escape being control because his reign is still weak. This is the best decision he has made through his career. Historian says YongYan is indecisive when making decision so corruption and rebellion is still happening here and there. He is a defensive type of emperor compared to his father and grandfather that is more ruthless. Adding that the treasury (bank) has not much money left, Qing Dynasty officially go downhill.
I have something to say ruyi did relive don’t ask me how everyone does on no that they went down hill but greed was on there literall name so I won’t say anything
@@jinxiejae there are another 5 Qing Dynasty emperor after YongYan. The famous Opium war happen during Yong Yan's son reign. He lost the war and has to give Hong Kong to The British for 99 years and open up some ports. After that it's all Qing Dynasty Vs the western countries.
You are very familiar with Qing Dynasty history! Indeed, YongYan (JiaQing) is recognised as the start of the downhill of Qing. However, it always makes us wonder that if 5th prince YongQi did not die so young and if Qianlong himself did not live too long to lost most of his heir choices, will Qing Dynasty have better future?
In all honesty, the writers probably made the ending to be open to interpretation. If you think him cutting the hair was to release her then good. If you think him cutting his hair was to join her then good. Me personally I don't think he was cutting his hair to release her. Think about it. He released her when he decided to not give her a proper burial. He let her be free of him. She wasn't going to be bound to him in the after life because she wasn't buried as an empress. And you only need to cut one end of a tied knot right in order to be free. It takes two ends to tie a knot. But only one end to be cut in order to be free. The emperor let her go her ways . But I think when he cut his hair to include with hers it was like a courtship to be together again. He knew death was near for him. So he cut his hair as an offer to join together in the next life. Think of it as those married couples who get divorced. But down the line they make a go of it to reconcile and be together again. Emperor's hair is sorta like offering flowers. And it was up to Ruyi to accept or not.
Now that's Karma😉 The way he treated and misused women, this is very fitting. He should have suffered the same heartache as he caused Ruyi, she truly loved him and he hit, mistreated, and allowed others to hurt and defame her. He deserved a worse fate.
I think thw anguish he felt from loosing her was more torment than any physical pain you could give someone. I am glad he at least wasnt so heartless to not realize his loss when it was too late to go back.
He did suffer heartache from her death and specifically, how she died. And then everything else that she did - from ripping up their portrait to refusing to take back the symbols of the empress that were previously taken from her, to giving him the withered plum tree and using it as a metaphor for their relationship. All of that hurt him badly, had him filled with regret, and made him miserable and tormented until the very end.
@@julayneo5472 Torment? Don’t dilute yourself.. he is a scumbag period, just because someone is old, lonely thirsty for warmth doesn’t mean they love you or do care. Their just doing so for their selfish reasons. And if they feel anguished it doesn’t amounts to the pain he has caused all those pitiful women. For me he is the real villain who made all women turn evil.
I would like to have some words, You may feel pity and unfair for Yongji that he was not appointed as the heir for the throne. But if you one watched the previous series, Story of Zhenhuan: Empress in the palace, at the last episode, when Her Highness of Jingren Palace (Ruyi's aunt) asked the Dowager Empress (Zhenhuan) the reason she didn't recommend her own blood, Hongyan, as the next Emperor but her foster son, Hongli instead. The Dowager Empress responded that "the crown of Emperor is absolutely not something good to wear". And through both series, those words were proven. Look at the previous Emperor, Yongzheng, and our Emperor, Qianlong, I judge that they also a victim, of power. The power makes them suspicious, and spoiled them with lust and greedy, and kill their initial pure heart. You can't keep the merciful heart as you had to face with thousands of enemies, and your duty is to unstoppable widen the country, increasing wealth, for your people's sake - with also means that you would go to invade other lands, take their property, slaves them. You can't be so accessible since anyone could tell lie every single second to you for their greedy purposes, plan to cause harm to you every single second in order to replace your position. And rarely someone could stand against being fallen into lust from holding great power. In other to be stable to play the pillar of the country, you had to sacrifice, exchange many things from love, family, to your own initial body and heart. It becomes ridiculous that an Emperor is supposed to be powerful, but in fact, he is the one that powerless, since he even didn't have the right to follow his pure heart. In the end, he passes away with an isolated fate. "I once got everything I want, but they like sand, escaped through the space between my fingers. I got everything but nothing." Said Emperor Yongzheng in his very last moments in the film. So I kind of happy when Yongji won't be an Emperor and being trapped by rules, duties and power, and being change. I glad that the become a freedom prince as his mother wishing. And if you still upset, here come some historical facts that would help you be pleasant: - Qianlong did appoint 15th Prince, Yongyan, to become the Crown Prince. But before that, he brings Yongyan to the mausoleum of the Imperial Crown Prince Duanhui (2nd Prince - son of her Highness Empress Xiaoxian) and order him to knee down beyond the tombstone, but NOT USE the ritual of "a little brother kneeing beyond his older brother", but the practice of "a servant kneeing beyond his master", then the Emperor Qianlong himself prayed that "If he (Yongyan) truly had the fortune to become the next Emperor, let him be. If he does not have that fortune, let the high celeste take him away." After that day, Yongyan did genuinely suffered from a grave illness but restored then; therefore, Qianlong made him the Crown Prince. However, Qianlong also created a method called "Ruling Guidance", that made him remain his power even though he retired and Yongyan became the Emperor. Yongyan (Emperor Jiaqing) was a voiceless monarch until the day his father passed away (the 4th year in Jiaqing era)
I just watched bits and pieces of this shows, was like reading the beginning of a book than skipping to the end. You don’t have to read the middle or even understand the language to get the gist of the story. But I cried.
Started as a love story ends as a melancholic history. Some of the actors and actresses have such powerful scenes that I will re-watch again and again. Thanks for the upload!
I liked it. People online I see have not liked it a lot but I think it has been protrayed well. very emotional and a full character debelopment for her and the emperor. That is what a good drama is
I have always felt that Yanwan's plan was to have her son, Yongyan, take the throne as an Emperor and she, be the Dowager. She observes Qianlong's interaction with his mother and I feel, that motivates her to scheme. The availability of power is too tempting hence she kills to her whims and fancies. Also, the little details peppered throughout the whole series of her observing the interactions amongst the ladies had given her the ability to suss out weaknesses and use that to her advantage. But little did she know that even though she thinks that she's quite ahead of time, there's Ruyi, whose capability exceeds. This series has so many lessons that we could learn from but at the same time, the concepts of the politics still exist today. Thank you for uploading these series clips, Drama Forever! Appreciate it! :)
No pity for this man. He allowed lust to dominate the latter part of his days before he became too aged! The ONLY woman who remained faithful and true to him he ended up persecuting and making her life unbearable till she finally cut her hair to rid herself of him. He could not control his harem and lost many children bcz of the jealousies and favoritism he nurtured. Ruyi was true till her last breath, but she left him with pain and remorse to endure till his last breath. He was loving a true to her to a point I must say, but Hongyi died within him. Karma...
Finally someone who thinks this way as well. People tend to be blind to many main leads of dramas mostly historical ones just cause they are the main relationship and attractive. This emperor was abusive and cold, probably the worst that I’ve seen in any drama where there was a “lovers since youth” trope. However i do give props to the actor who played his character, almost every scene made me want to rip out his long braid
The emperor created, caused the problems in his own harem, set them in motion. The dead tree coming back to life was more than I could stomach. He missed his narcissistic supply, never understood her pain or personhood. He still couldn’t believe that she separated herself from him. He was his own world. His hair with hers was once again his choice...not hers, his feelings, not hers. Narcissist supply and gas lighting can be identified by the semi truckload here. She loved him ‘til she couldn’t, then lived her faith in her god’s system. He finally felt remorse, but far too late. The orchid flowers were fallen to the ground already. He erased her very existence, and never retracted that he had pronounced her crazy.. He was a schemer and tormentor. He was a JERK.
Well you should've watched Empresses in the Palace before. It's the story of Niohuru Zhen Huan, the adoptive mother of Emperor Qianlong, prequel to Ruyi's Royal Love in the palace!
Rugi's Royal Love She is incredible a true lover finally she is free ,free for her for herself Fly as you like, fly as you wish for Now it's you simply you for you
Inspite of all the power he will be the only widow of the world. Everybody are gone by all means as time pass by and left alone with memories of those who are gone..it seems his palace is hallow and lonely without his love ones.
Hair is life force. Cutting hair is killing Qinling and Hongli (they are one body). She does not want to live if she's linked to him. She wants him/all about him out of her life and reincarnations. Before death, she rejects/destroys all that could link them spiritually. Only his agreement to divorce was missing. He gave before he died cutting his hair too, not tying. She was not angry, she only wanted freedom from all Qingling. When emperor cut last link (official marriage), she reincarnated to happy life (tree blossoms). Tree is symbol of their hearts: bloom when happily in love, die when saddly love dies, bloom when thankfully free from each other.🙂 Before she died she told Rongpei who said she loves emperor : " Do I love him? NO."
I don't consider these love, it's survival instict, it's Stockholm sydrom. A romanticism of delusion. A love for their shelves in unsupportive environment conditions
most women in harm only served the emprore to fullfill their family/clans obligations and political ties to the ruling royals , most the concubines did not love the emperor
It's not love. The emperor might be feel lust toward some of the prettiest, but many of the consorts were brought in to form an alliance between the emperor and their maiden family and to give birth a royal heir. As for the women, they usually entered the palace at very young age (most probably, younger than 17). They're normal girls who crave love, romance, and sex. And as the emperor's women, they were not allowed to think about other men, only served the emperor.
@@vivanyatodd5036 even after the emperor death these women either be killed with their emperor to serve him in next life or became nuns and not allowed to marry another
I think Ruyi and Hongli are in another life. At some point we hurt people, whether unconsciously or consciously, we will always be someone's villain. It's like we have past lives, how much damage will we have done to people who were important in that life? In this world many things can influence our destiny and just for being bad we treat horribly those who want to help us. It is complicated to be really stable. And it is true that being depressed or bad is not an excuse to treat people badly, however, why do you act badly when you are like that? It means that people understand the moment, but not the background. We all decide who to be with and stay away from. We choose who we are and regret it in the future. We must forgive ourselves when we realize it so we don't beg for mercy and really change. Too many outside influences to control our own lives.
I just finished this glorious movie. Many people think the Emperor was a horrible man. But he only knows what he was taught. Did he make mistakes YES. He did not protect Ruyi as much as he could and forgot the evil deeds his first empress did to Ruyi. However I fell he loved Ruyi and at the end when he took her Empress title away after she died he knew that is what Ruyi wanted. She didn’t want to be Empress. She just wanted to be with her love.
Selfish until the end, asking forgiveness from the empress after everything he put her through, the only person he ever loved was himself, just until his death bed asking for a dead wife forgiveness, the top of selfishness.
I think one of the story’s underlying message is that once you are the Emperor, you will always be lonely at the top of the world. Everybody is scheming to have a part of you; whether it is the front court or the palace. Pretty soon you lose faith in everyone, suspecting everyone. He couldn’t even trust his sons. The Dowager told Ruyi that when she was elevated to Empress. In one scene, the Emperor was lamenting how one of his concubines was so innocent and pure when she first married into the house, yet became so evil. The emperor can never trust anyone; it will always be his destiny to end up lonely and by himself. He was a good man and husband; but his position slowly took its toll on his soul.
Actually in dynasties ahead of qing. Especially from the han people (authentic Chinese), the emperor call themselves as 寡人,based in Chinese idiom 孤家寡人,means lonely person, sovereign.. So from here it advocates emperor trust no one. And they be seen as the the heaven anointed emperor the descendant of dragon. So they seen as far away, less human like... But though emperors are still human. Just so sad to live in that era.
Samira Adams, The irony is that by this time Ruyi had let go of everything including any ties to him. She had no need to forgive him any further. He did not realize that she had already forgiven him.
I only watch it once coz I felt injustice for what happened to Ruyi . Emperor makes her life miserable & I pity her so much . Even her last moment & her burial it's too sad 😪😪😪😪
Ruyi wanted to be free. She did not want to be remembered by him or anyone else. I sometimes wish the real Ruyi had done this but i believe she is free and happy to not have to deal with catty women and fighting for 1 mans affections. She is with her children and that is all that matters.
So the emperor cutting his hair is his sincere gift and final atonement for ruyi which is quite big and heavy even though I still think he is a scumbag for what he did to ruyi.
this just made me cry!!
The part about the plum blossom finally blooming. heartbreaking really.
Ruyi understood and sympathized with him for a long time, until the straw broke the camel back because his conduct got more and more outrageous
I see a lot of commenters hating him for not giving Ruyi a proper burial fit for an empress, but he himself explained to empress dowager = ruyi went thru so much trouble erasing herself from palace life, at the end of her life she did not see anyone except rong pei, cut out her photo, refused to the emperor a chance to say goodbye before she died - so he wanted to honor her wish and didn’t enshrine her with him (because spiritually that means she will have to be with him in the afterlife). She wanted nothing to do with him at the end, and he respected her wish.
Well said. 👍
@@DandelionsrukMHI no need to be corrected, you are right.
Cutting your hair during those times was a super significant thing. So yeah, it definitely expresses lots of emotion.
@@fluffygarden2629 in ancient Chinese, only husband and wife can tie their hair together, and symbolises their union. And since hair can only be cut in death, it also symbolises till death do us part. However many consorts or mistresses a man may have, only the real wife can have this union. The emperor is a complex character, and very well written and acted. Truly a marvelous masterpiece.
The actual history is different
This emperor actually has Consort Ling elevated to Empress after Ruyi died and Consort Ling's son became his successor like she wanted
Then again this work was based off a fictional novel and It's too much to expect 100% historical accuracy
But the scene in itself is done very well indeed
@@Jenneration95x She was titled as the Empress after she died. And her empress status was a posthumous given by her son after Qian Long died.

@Lindy T Don't let fear get you....Nobody know the future, so don't stress about that, live the present.
And so was Hongli.

the flowers have finally blossom in the end on that dried tree, as one simple forgiveness from Ruyi to her unfaithful husband! after all, her love is too precious for him!
@@victorliang9997 Beautiful! That's what I want to believe.👍
Yes,I also taught as same
I like to think that after he closed his eyes and passed away, his spirit went back to the age when he first married Ruyi.
He undoubtedly loves her but that love has been corrupted to an non-repairable stage.

for this particular emperor, it's because he lived way too long. So long that most of his sons died before him and it left him with not many choices.
The idea is to have a ton kids, so at least 1 makes it to healthy adulthood. Tough world...

The sad thing is. When the real Empress died the Emperor didn't go to see her and he said she died because of bad luck. He actually spent the rest of his life with Ling. Thank You very much. Yes I see how the story changes when told from another point of view. I have experienced that sometimes True Love is not appreciated. There is no medicine for regrets.

Merci, thank you,
just came across this and I hardly move for the entire day. this is so powerful reminds me of someone I use to know and when I left him.. he got lost. but I had to inorder to save myself. very sad movie but true to life😥
Concubine Ling's son Yong Yan became the next emperor.
Did a new dynasty take their place or was that the begging of the end of empiricism in china?
Thank you for these information.
My last episode 😭 watched it from beginning to end! May RUYI never find him in the after life.
Someone who didn't know how to love until it was too late.
I also loved this story and the actors and actresses were superb/wonderful. Thank you for the beautiful story.
Alguien tan miserable como este emperador, de carácter voluble y narcisista, se merece este final...... Y dudo mucho q Ruyi lo este esperando
I would like to have some words,
You may feel pity and unfair for Yongji that he was not appointed as the heir for the throne.
And if you still upset, here come some historical facts that would help you be pleasant:
- Qianlong did appoint 15th Prince, Yongyan, to become the Crown Prince.
True, early years of jiaqing emperor was powerless because the qianlong overlord still rule behind the screen...
Siempre lloro mucho viendo como comenzó y terminó Ruyi pero creo que fue un final bueno para ella y un final especial para él. 😭😭😭
I am Mexican I loved history is history nothing can changed I wish I can learn more about the Chinese history thank you 😊
I just watched bits and pieces of this shows, was like reading the beginning of a book than skipping to the end. You don’t have to read the middle or even understand the language to get the gist of the story. But I cried.
Saw these clips on my feed. Was supposed to watch just 1 clip and now here i am crying bucket after watching 5 clips. Gosssh 😭
Started as a love story ends as a melancholic history. Some of the actors and actresses have such powerful scenes that I will re-watch again and again. Thanks for the upload!
This was a BEAUTIFUL SERIES JUST LOVED IT.
This is what happens when you betray your loved ones .....in the end you are all alone .😒😪
I liked it. People online I see have not liked it a lot but I think it has been protrayed well. very emotional and a full character debelopment for her and the emperor. That is what a good drama is
Gracias por compartir tan bella historia
Yongyan inherited the thrown anyways :/
@@ppoutinefries He was a week emperor and his reign is known as the Decline of the Qing Dynasty
@@artismylife2641 I disagree with you. During Qianlong's ruling, the Qing dynasty reached its most splendid and prosperous era.
@@KingOfThePirates101 I think you misunderstand. I was talking about Qianlong’s son, Yongyan, the Jiaqing Emperor.
@@artismylife2641 My bad. 😆 Yeah. That's true.
He learned about genuine love, and the strength it can bring too late. He ultimately suffered as Ruyi did within her life. Very emotional.

I couldn't agree with you more.

Loved this story. Is there a soundtrack for this series?
Absolutely love the music 🎶
Well you should've watched Empresses in the Palace before. It's the story of Niohuru Zhen Huan, the adoptive mother of Emperor Qianlong, prequel to Ruyi's Royal Love in the palace!
all alone. too much sorrow. end up feeling regretted actions.
The meaning of cutting hair with someone means forever love and thats like what Ruyi and hongli did and he also died like Ruyi
Rugi's Royal Love
She is incredible a true lover finally she is free ,free for her for herself
Fly as you like, fly as you wish for
Now it's you simply you for you
Inspite of all the power he will be the only widow of the world. Everybody are gone by all means as time pass by and left alone with memories of those who are gone..it seems his palace is hallow and lonely without his love ones.
如懿表示:X忘記把那束頭髮一起燒了
如懿表示 馬的,放開我的頭髮!!!!
如懿表示: 靠,你這個渣男有沒問過我可不可以和我的頭髮結束?!
Tree is symbol of their hearts: bloom when happily in love, die when saddly love dies, bloom when thankfully free from each other.🙂
Before she died she told Rongpei who said she loves emperor : " Do I love him? NO."
Does anyone else want to see a reincarnation version and see if they meet in another life 😭😭😭😭
I'm just curious as to how this story would translate to modern day times
i watched the whole series on amazon prime it was great :)
"You don't know what you have, until it is gone!"
This is such a great story. I loved it. Ruyi and the emperor❤️
In the end, he is just a widowed man in the world.
As he deserves to be.
I can't understand this type of love .so many women's for a one person. How one can love so many .
I don't consider these love, it's survival instict, it's Stockholm sydrom. A romanticism of delusion. A love for their shelves in unsupportive environment conditions
🤣🤣🤣🤣 your comments made me glad
most women in harm only served the emprore to fullfill their family/clans obligations and political ties to the ruling royals , most the concubines did not love the emperor
All that scheming, all that infighting, all that backstabbing...and in the end...everybody dies.
Hooked, beautiful ❤, bittersweet ending, more 👏👏👏👏👏😢
the cycling of life, an end is the other beginning
Samira Adams,
The irony is that by this time Ruyi had let go of everything including any ties to him. She had no need to forgive him any further. He did not realize that she had already forgiven him.
Wow. That was amazing. The people and culture are more beautiful than I can express.
The End. Thank you for sharing the videos.
I love that there’s 2 blossoms in the green plum..showing that the young lovers finally got back together in the next life
Sara Marie, Not!
This is beautifully poetic.
I love this drama, classic.
