    This video was good to see because here in New Zealand it’s Super Normal seeing automatic STIs. A lot of people own them especially the hatch models. They’re a lot cheaper than the 6 speed STI manual models too! The manual models range from 30-35K! While the automatic STIs range from 15-25K.

    I have a 2013 sedan automatic sti. It's a great car, been daily driving it for 9 years and drove to 3k kilometers to a different country with it. Last year was the first major issue, head gasket obviously. I still think the sti Atype is an underrated gem. BTW mine is in the middle east so I don't think it's japan only, mine is left hand drive sedan
    It also has amazing paddle shifter that doesn't move with the steering wheel. 0-100 was a little over a second slower than the manual in my personal test

    • @CamMead
      @CamMead 7 месяцев назад

      how many kms did it have before the head gasket went? Sounds like a common problem with this engine..

      @@CamMead 160, 000km but here is the thing, i live in one of the hottest countires in the world. When the car over heated, I immediately stopped and towed it to the garage. It came back apparently fixed. I drove it for a couple of hours for it to suddenly over heat, so I stopped but then out of disbelief, I tried driving again and it overheated instantly but this time, the car automatically shut off. I found out later that the garage never fixed anything. So I feel like if I didn't trust them and didn't push the car when it over heated, it wouldn't have broken. I geniunly thought it was a broken sensor when I got the warning after getting "fixed"

    I think the option would have made more sense in the WRX only, jamming it into the STI was silly purely because the DCCD was removed to accommodate it. I use my '12 WRX hatch as a daily and while I don't commute in peak hour city traffic, an automatic option would be a good option to have, especially with the paddle shift ability so it retains some of its enthusiast fun.
    My brother has an same year Forester XT with paddle shift and although it's obviously not as fast as my hatch, it still gets going really quickly and feels smooth while doing it. While I love driving manual, I've often thought how fun it would be to drive my car but with paddle shift, even more so after being in the XT and with the only downside being a slight power hit
    I think it's funny how people shit on the G3 series of automatics but will lap up any excuse to have a current gen WRX with the CVT option, which while fine, is still CVT. I almost looked at (maybe purchased) an automatic hatch that was available and only skipped on it because the dealer was super sketchy.

    2009-2014 WRX STi A-line wasn’t exclusive to Japan. It was available in almost all markets worldwide except the US market. The “Sportshift” was just the name for the manual shifting mode - like Mitsubishi’s INVECS-II. The transmission in the A-line is basically the same Subaru 5EAT You would find in 2010-2014 Subaru Legacy and Outback, the only difference being the shorter differential final drive ratio in the A-line.

    There's also a sedan version of the A line it's extremely rare and brembo brakes can be optioned from factory on the A line hatchback

    I think they could put the same automatic Tiptronic that is in the 2008 Impreza WRX.Subaru should give the same option in a STI as I hate standards I drove many in the past and hate having 2 down shift so much in heavy traffic fuckn annoying. So the sport model that there using in Japan should make its way 2 North America,or go back 2 the 08 tiptronic style for a STI

    It’s honestly really weird that Subaru didn’t sell the auto STI in the US, mainly because Americans seem to prefer automatic cars

      Sometimes a company has to make a bad decision to realize the people they sell cars to want sti power. So why wouldn’t they just build every car as sti worthy, every car awd turbo and ready to rally cuz that’s what is going to happen realistically.

    no... just nooo...... this is incredibly stupid product design. why would they take their most hardcore, top of line flagship car, and then dumb it down trying to make it a "car for everyone." it absolutely hate this mindset that every car has to be "for everyone." they are literally taking the enthusiast out of enthusiast cars. this is straight grabage. the easiest solution is for them to have a seperate dedicated car while still having the normal sti and what it was meant to be from the beginning. crossing and blurring the lines is just stupid. not every car is meant "for everyone" and it needs to remain that way

      "STi" is a trim level not a model, no matter what the marketing department claims. The second STi was an automatic Legacy wagon. There have been many STi that were not Impreza based including the first STi being a Legacy sedan and plenty of Forester STi.
