It’s good to see you showing the right thing with firewood collection. I have noticed a lot of felling up our way in the mundaring state forest, there are big areas deeper in where people have just cut down 10 trees an sawn them all up. poaching seems to be growing but not the good kind, we grab timber out of the state forest but only what’s on the ground.
Was wondering how it wood(see what I did there) cut hard jarrah. See northerners cutting pine all the time. Seems like butter. Thanks, good job. That big jarrah log looks hard to split, I usually save that for a last resort. Haha.
The 500 runs strong with 20"b/c in aussie hardwoods...but with having access to nice big timber get yourself a 28" or 32". Good to have a spare bar with a couple of chains in each bar length.
That's one thing I've been trying to look up mate! Hard to find good info on how these run with a longer bar in proper Aussie hardwood, all the vids are with walnut and pine, not exactly a good comparison 😂
This reminds me of a red i found in the black ranges coupe, im 6,1 this red was about 1 foot above my head laying down flat! I plunge cut and blocked it out with an ms 251x18" 😂 Filled my 6x4 and 7x10 tray in a couple of hours.
I mainly use my old 038 farmboss, 15 years of abuse and only had the handle and muffler break, looking at getting a 500i, sweet looking thing and seems to have grunt for days!
Yeah dude is no more than 200- 300 km from the south coast of au somewhere, i know my south coast ranges. Loving the species spread, that's home bush for me
Young Lee , really enjoy your chainy vids mate . Maintenance vids would be all time . Have you ever thought about getting a Lucas mill or similar? Some slabs of that jarrah would be beautiful. Love your work mate. 👍
will definitely have a maintenance video coming soon mate 🍻 haha iv done it once but its pretty illegal to mill without being on private property would bloody love to give it another go tho
Love my 661 had a 30inch bar on it but went back to a 25inch only due to not finding huge logs as much if I can give you any advice get your self a crow bar u would of had that ring off I 2seconds they are a great investment 👍
Great stuff, with the firewood restrictions now in place, just got a collection permit and will go out and get my own wood now,got I few good tips from this ,cheers 👍
Go the stihl! Beasty saw. I've got a couple of 170s for small stuff and am on my 2nd 261 for firewood. Great tools. If I was gunna go bigger, it would be the 500i. As you said, more wedges, plus a fencing bar and postie shovel in the back of the ute. Good stuff mate👍👍🪓
Big ring of jarrah mate - another one whos keen to see how you maintain your saws....I just got my MS400C, very happy with it so far....still breaking it in at the moment, but a big upgrade from the MS311 I used previously.
I'm a little different to most here in the comments , for the big jobs irun a dolmar 120si made in 1986 with a 22 inch Oregon bar .ported with custom Muffler she's loud af but rips hard. The only thing Is that it's heavy but damn so reliable and cuts better than my husky 372xp or Stihl 361 any day. The main difference is how I feel after using the old girl . My teeth are loose and my backs rooted but there's just something about running a top quality vintage saw that I'm drawn too. Love the vids mate westraya 4 life ❤️👍
Comment bombing your vid here but if you find this again or bigger and your bar is too short, just cut down its face vertical say 17" from the edge then go back to side to release a half moon peice. Repeat on other side then remove chunk left in middle if needed. You can "block out" any width log this way so long as you have access to the face. This is how i harvested the 7 ft width red mentioned previously.
cheers mate! don't usually get wood this big, and the jarrah we cut here in WA is super hard so would rather a shorter bar instead of getting bogged down all the time! could definitely go a 25 on the 500i, might be a new purchase 😊
Nice saw. I just picked up a used MS361 in good condition for $680 which I was pretty stoked with. Where abouts are these vids shot? Collie? Dwellingup?
Nice saw mate! They are nice and light and have plenty of power, great investment ! bet you could cut some spuds with that and make chips instead of buying frozen chips 🤣🍻 👍🥔🇦🇺
They are a great saw mate, the only think that lets them down is the poor air filter system. Look up uni filters for chainsaw mate for about 25 bucks it's the best investment you can have for your new saw.
Out of curiosity, are people allowed to drag a whole log out of the forest or must firewood be cut into pieces before removal? I have no idea why YT put your video in my feed but now I'm curious about whether people just winch something up then use a hydraulic splitter at home etc.
I'm pretty sure it has to be cut to fire wood as milling timber is a big no no might have a hard time convincing the rangers with a big log in ya ute 😆
Hard to bet a Sthil, I have 3. MS390 (approx 12yrs old) is my work horse but I do not cut stuff as big as that, MS180 is my track clearer and camp saw and then I have a Sthil electric saw that the model number I can't remember for odd jobs around the house as it is nice and quite. I would love a 500i but cant justify the $$$ for what I use it for.
I have a husky 3120 great saw better to use than Stihl as i am older now I bought an ms 500i great saw much less weight than the old husky but very honest saw so far only worn out 3 chains 25 inch bar but 404 chain i have gotten used to sharpening that from husky days Only 1 criticism the air cleaner is not nearly as good as the husky
@@BushRats I use a lot off husky from 88cc to 105 cc , my last was 2095 jonsered red with turbo on it . Had turbo replaced about 4 yr ago , just play around now dropping timber , drop 30,000 board feet in logs this spring , one 5’ at but hard maple . 5 48” yellow pine . Few big spruce and heml. Just keep dust off the chainsaw my friend . Keep my hand filing up with my age .

I had a 038 exfallers saw 10 years back that I ran for 10 years great saw
Awesome little vid cheers.
thanks mate cheers for watching 🍻
I’ve got the same two saws. I fixed the air filter after first use with a flat foam washer and an oring. Otherwise they’re a good saw.
cheers dan yeah I doubled up the foam washer and it worked a treat 🍻
@@BushRats I also smear a little grease around the bottom face same as a dirt bike filter to ensure nothing comes underneath. 👍
I always carry 3 to 4 wedges and chains. I have a Stihl MS 660. It runs a 20 and 25 inch bar
more wedges will definitely be purchased now 😂 nice mate always wanted a 660
Was wondering how it wood(see what I did there) cut hard jarrah. See northerners cutting pine all the time. Seems like butter. Thanks, good job. That big jarrah log looks hard to split, I usually save that for a last resort. Haha.
I have a 462 at the moment but I’m looking at a 661 with a 25inch bar. Same cost as the 500i atm
Great looking saw. Did the job. Nice looking wood.
Cheers mate petty stoked with it 🔥🪵
The 500 runs strong with 20"b/c in aussie hardwoods...but with having access to nice big timber get yourself a 28" or 32". Good to have a spare bar with a couple of chains in each bar length.

Great vid. I don't get people that go to gym when you can do this and actually get something in return. Keep it up mate
Exactly right mate 👍

worth every penny mate 😂
That thing rip’s, Lee….

500i probably better than 661
I got both 661 big heavy saw
After time fatigue set's in and 661 is dangerous if you're not Arney
yeah mate I tried a 661 before getting it and it was way to heavy for my liking! not much heavier than my old 362 but double the power!!
The fuel injection scared me so I bought the MS462. Not sure it was the right decision. I’ll let you know in 20yrs time
see who's is still running mate be interesting to see!
