Not too many engine builders go into depth the way you do man I could watch your videos all day long!! Keep up the great work!!
Thank you!
Shaft rockers are the bomb! I had T&D rockers in my blown endurance boat and they were bullet proof. Can’t emphasize the importance of deflection from any source to valve timing. Not only in reliability, but also power since this consistency helps promote even power among the cylinders from revolution to revolution.
100% T&D make great parts! I'm running a set on my 6.0 with L92 heads. I picked up .050 on my ET in my bracket car. Made the switch to shaft rockers for more stable valvetrain and with that came a better performance
I did the exact same thing about 6 months ago, BTR shaft mount with TSP roller rockers. Works great! 👍🏻🏁
Did you see a noticeable difference after installing?
and.......Crickets......😅
Hi
Which ls e give do you have ?
I have also been oozing at the Brian tooley shaft upgrade but I don't know which rockers and springs will be compatible. I have a texas speed bald eagle cam in it already so wasn't sure which is going to work. Can you help ?
Installed and work great. Please read the instructions thoroughly and read again before installing! Can't stress that enough. Especially when installing on the engine. The pair will be tightened down together. I used ARP rocker studs and that made it even more fun.
Oh, stop using 5/16 dia pushrods. BRIAN TOOLEY RACING sells 11/32 pushrods in 0.080 wall. Same price if not less than a 5/16 and noticeably stronger. Since we're all in for the "RIGID"
Have you pulled them off and checked the bottom side of the fulcrum/shaft. Mine showed west after only 1000 miles
Holy shit that's a huge cam your running in that thing. Dude you are engine smart for your age and have a great understanding for physics and the way it all works. I'm impressed and i don't impress easy. I'm 53 and been building engines since i was 16 and i don't like many people cuz I'm a quirky mechanic but i could hang out with you
I used bar's shaft system in my build and I thought about the magnum xl rockers...glad someone tried it..I do wish btr would sell this as a whole kit
The shaft rock kit is pretty slick. I just installed the V2 version on a 2005 Corvette. I bought it with new BTR rockers already installed. Engine has a 7,200 rpm limiter and makes about 850hp with a Magnuson supercharger.
Did this on a sbc 388ci stroker. Super stable!
I love this channel!! 😂😂😂New subscriber!!!🔥🔥🔥
I’ve got a similar setup in my 408. They are the yellaterra arms. I’ve been impressed with how quiet they run.
Part number on the yellaterras you ran? Looking for some for my 416 can’t decided which yt’s i want
Always learning here💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Ive been wondering if the btr shaft kit and tsp rockers were compatible. Thanks for the proof of concept.
Nice setup!
Great idea and video. I seek to do that too. Was the roller contact central over the valve?
My understanding is that ideally a lap rocker arc sweeps towards the pivot, but a roller rocker can be set to slightly sweep away, then bac towards the pivot, keeping contact over the centre of the valve.
Would the bushings be a better option like in the CHE kits? Instead of the needle bearings.
Good, stuff. Shaft mounting for the BBC is on target. How about that 632cid, mate?
I have TSP roller rockers there amazing!!! With CHE bronze!!
I heard weight was a concern using TSP roller rockers on BTR shaft mount. Thoughts?
I see that's a btr shaft kit but who makes that roller tip rocker?
Great video bro!
Hey bro Im building a 5.3l LS - What are all the part numbers for this build and where did you get that bearing installer ? I want all of this and what would you recommend for lifters ??? PLEASE !!!! Excellent video !!!
What roller tip rockers are you getting to work with btr kit I got just basic 706 cylinder heads
What's the weight over the nose on those TSP arms? Which lifters did you choose?
I was wondering I have a 2014 LS4 430hp what’s your recommendation for Roller rockers and rack to sit the rollers to get the strength im not racing or doing those things I’ve only got 33k on the motor
I have a daily driven cammed 6.2L ( L86 ) making 417rwhp im looking to take this build to the next level can I consult you on what parts I would need to make the motor bullet proof? Planning on running a 2.9L Whipple to hit my 500rwhp goal
Thanks!
Hi Jacob do you have the part number and cost for this kit , and also what are the rockers from and part number.
So the piece the rockers bolt to is now steel, rather than cast aluminum? Wondering if they make an LS7 version that bolts to the cast in place rocker stands, without having to machine the LS7 heads rocker stands flat????
What brand were those roller tip rocker arms (the second ones you were talking about)? I didn't see any info in the description about them and the brand wasn't mentioned in the video.
you talk about the valve tips getting messed up under spring load of 420 lbs and more. my springs are tested at 415 lbs at .660 but all my exhaust valve tips and 1 intake valve tip are mushroomed. should i upgrade to the roller rockers?
I like this upgrade. J want to do it in my LS2. I have the Texas Speed Bald eagle cam in it already and need help in finding the correct springs and roller rocker upgrades!? Can anyone help out ?
Are those Texas Speed rocker arms 🤔 I would love to up grade my to shaft rocker.. But I'm not running stock heads 😕
So you can run this setup under the stock valve covers? Ls3 in specific
I know this video is a year old but I’ve watched this video many, many times before posting this. I was looking to do the same thing but I got to thinking, can I do the same thing but with 1.8 rockers? I know that the push rod length will change as well as the cam specs. I’m also sure this may also cause piston and valve issues. What do you think?
You took my idea lol. Running similar set in my build
Link to what you used as in parts?
What’s that piece you used to hold the rockers in the vice? Where can I get that?
What brand rocker arms are those? And what shaft system is that your installing on them?
I got 2007 Cadillac Escalade 6.2liter I got a little on almost all of them what that mean and how would I fix that please help thanks you.
How much to have a set like this done ?
Question: As I was duplicating your set-up (using BTR's changed design of thrust washers rather than circlips now...ugh), I wonder if you've observed any issues related to the different expansion coefficients between the steel parts running the length of an otherwise all-aluminum head, when everything is up to operating temperature?
Also which cam would u recommend
What shaft system and brand rockers are they and can you get them for ls6 heads
What brand are the rocker arms and shaft kit?
Will the TSP 1:8 steel roller tip rockers work with the Comp Cams BSR shaft rocker system for the GM LS7? I obviously love all the benefits of the roller rocker, and the strength and durability of steel rockers especially on the LS7 valve train geometry. I will no longer run aluminum rockers even on a relatively mild 228/244, 630/621 118+3 street build (no matter who makes them) because of the high failure rate of aluminum rockers. I run with open spring pressures of 436 with PAC 1207. BTW, YT Ultralights are beautifully made, but will not hold up for open spring pressures over 220lbs, as stated by YT. Who the Hell runs 220 lbs on any cam upgrade? Rediculous .
Where did you get them at ..can this system be Used I’m 02 …. LM7 …. 5.3
Got a l77 if im going a mild cam just a little step up from the stock afm cam do I need to upgrade the trunions or will the factory ones be ok
Part number for the kit you used in the video?
would a 1.8 rocker with .600 lift cam do much? over a 1.7
I had some of my rockers gall up on the pushrods.
Would those rocker arms work on the comp shaft rocker system?
I have a 5.3 LS with practically no oil pressure on. I put a new oil pump and it did nothing for it you got any ideas ???
It’s been 5 years already and over 80,000 miles
08 Tahoe with ls2 swap , 226/232 cam 114 LSA 600 lift and no trunnion issues, no lifters issues and oem pushrods
Should I start worrying about it?
Who makes those rocker arms? 😮
What brand rockers are those?
Man thats a sexy combo
I'm wanting to go this route. In 2019 replaced the rockers on my Pontiac G8. I was going to leave the trunnion upgrade to my factory but wind up buying some prw for roller rockers. These rockers were definitely heavier than my factory but I figured with the roller tip to reduce friction and the sturdier body would give it less deflection. I figured maybe a couple horsepower for the roller tip reduce friction, an stability. Long story short the needle bearings wound up failing on the roller fulcrum on several of them! Can I use these on the shafts with a new bearings and shaft mount supplied? also these being heavier would I benefit on going with the factory body style like you had with the full roller tip? or Would these be fine on the shafts with new bearings?
Then Btr shaft kit comes with bearings that fit stock rockers and apparently these Texas speed rockers
At this higher level wouldn't you be better off with bushings instead of needle bearing?. Love your tech.. thx man
My machinist sees far more bushing failures than needle bearing failures.
I can’t see that set up being mug better than using arp bolts or studs unless the heat itself is deflecting
The cost to do this and where do i buy a set thks
What is the manufacturer of these rocker arms?
Is there any reason why you didn't use the new brass bushes rather than needle bearing style.. or don't they work with shaft mounts..
I wanna know also lol
Way you didn't use bronze bushing !?
Is this the part # from texas speed for the rockers 25-TSP182RR-LS7, and from BTR shaft kit BTRSRKR3KIT?
Thanks, great vid now just gotta plan a trip to your shop to get my ly6 block machined. Great price btw for machining!
Yes
@@JacobVillemain just got done deburring the whole ly6 block, removed all the casting flash and chamfered the holes. Up next is get m oil squirters because my twin wuhan 80 mm tornados showed up today.
how come you did not oil the needle bearings before putting them on the shafts ???
They come pre-lubricated
What shaft kit did you use for the rockers?
BTR
How did this work? After a year ? The end is great ! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa 🗣
I'm surprised you didn't do a bronze uprade! Usually the needle bearings will wear out the shaft, bronze wears too just wondering what your reason was?
The only type of wear I've seen like you're describing is the JUNK COMP CAMS 'upgrade', which is a HUGE DOWNGRADE......
He means btr is junk for sure
Man you need more spring pressure than that for that much rpm with a solid roller
I've always wanted to put together a high rpm engine. No matter the final power output just the idea of 8500rpm+ has always been something I I dreamed of putting together . So here's my question. I don't know much about the 4.8 ls. , but Is it be possible to put together a long rod 4.8 and would it do what I'm asking with the right internals and valvetrain. And if so I wonder what kind of numbers it would make
Probably need a custom piston
why not destroke a 6.0? just use a 4.8 crank. can be built with junkyard parts, you end up with a big bore/short stroke that you can then use almost any gen3 or 4 head to feed because of the 4.00" bore. then pick how hard you wanna turn it and put the top end together accordingly.
Anything over 6500 makes me cringe and cover my noggen. Over 7000 you're only testing your rotating assy and hanging on for dear life. Why worry about that extra 1000 rpm there's nothing happening way up there accept the risk of destroying everything. Well built and components matched engines can make all the power you need down low and never have to put it up in that high risk zone. If you like listening to metal in a blender build yourself an 8G motor. Hope you have a lot of money
@@walasiewicz pro stock and nascar engine guys probably won’t agree with you on that. It’s easy to build a engine to make power above 7k rpm’s especially a LS.
@@walasiewicz I have an LS6 with PRC heads and a Fast 102 that is much faster being shifted around 7100 rpm. It can do that all day.
Awesome video., what roller rocker arms are those?
Texas Speed
Are those Texas Speed rockers?
25-TSP172RR-CATH
I just skipped through the video, did you give part numbers or brand names or who sell's the shaft?
I did in the video
What do you recommend for rebuilding a original stock LS1 from a 2002 Camaro SS ? I want to upgrade it and add a little extra power but nothing crazy and can use 91 octane. It’s still running well but has well over 200,000 miles on it
Bump the compression up to a solid 11:1. Have solid head work done, ie. CC'd, real valve job, upgrade the valve train(cheap Chinese new is not an upgrade), tie bar lifters, Cam Motion LLR, 11/32 pushrods(3/8 are hard to fit), stock crank, Gen IV rod with new ARP bolts, the lightest piston you can find with the top ring 0.125 down from the crown, low tension rings(maybe ditch the engine 2nd😉), quench 0.038 to 0.048(NO MORE NO LESS). It'll drink 91 to 93 all day. That should get you in the ballpark of being where you really wanna be! Just my educated 2 cents. Sorry if you felt overlooked. People get busy. Hope this helps.
Oops.....you said "a little". In that case get a tune up. TR6(8), MSD wire set, Ford Motorcraft PM-2(2 cans). Spray the PM-2, generously, into each cylinder through the sparkplug hole. Use a long flexible straw from a can of Seafoam(throw the ENTIRE can of that shit away). Let soak overnight. Place towels near each sparkplug hole to catch anything that comes next. Spin the engine over to expell any PM-2 still in the cylinders. Install your new parts, change the oil and let the smoke show begin. Video and post somewhere. Let the engine come up to temp by cycling engine speeds from idle to 2k periodically. Test drive and blow anything left out. That's the recipe for the best "Major Tune-up". I'll take the Pepsi challenge any day with that.
Essentially what you're doing, actually the PM-2 is doing, is releasing Millions(and MILLIONS) of hydrocarbons built up over 200k from the piston ring lands, compression rings, and most importantly oil control rings. Seriously, do this for a little more power. Either way you just got the best recipe you never had.
What is the tip diameter of the snap ring pliers you are using?
Does adding the long support arm under the rocker shafts lift the rockers further away from the head?
(Does this mod require new longer push rods)?
J
J
It replaces the factory cast piece, so the length doesn’t change. But the roller rocker repositions the pushrod cup and requires a .150” shorter pushrod
@@JacobVillemain
Interesting.
Does the new (.150in) tilt angle of the rocker arm effect lift or duration at all?
J
@@jscottc6675 negative
@@JacobVillemain
Neat stuff.
Thanks
@That Engine Guy .150" shorter PRs is all the better to not flex!!! A win-win here!!! GREAT VIDEO
I take it those needle bearings aren't as susceptible to failure as the stock GM needle bearings?
Correct
@@JacobVillemain what needle bearings are those?
Same rocker ratio?
Yes 1.7
You guys never replied to my email about an engine build.
I take it the once all these are installed, a shorter push rod has to be used?
Yes, pushrod length will change compared to stock rockers.
No actually longer push rod not shorter and you always always have to measure pushrod length on every LS engine
@@mikeeagle2653 That's true ANY time you build ANY engine.......
When I looked up the BTR Shaft Rocker Kits they all state to use the OEM GM rockers. Which full Roller Rockers did you go with and did they hold up?
Also, I saw a few 1-Star Reviews of the BTR Shaft Kits that stated they cracked or were scored after 10k miles, what (if anything) did you see with yours?
Edit: 6.2L LS3
Texas speed sell them they work great and don’t broke like the alumin expensive crab from jesel
What’s your email, I have a few questions about shaft rockers
These look like Texas Speed rockers.....
So if I don't plan on going over 6500RPM I don't really need pedestal roller rockers???
If you don't run super high valve spring tension (over 200 @ seat) and have valve lift under 0.600".....The OEM rockers with a bushing kit will get the job done
Parts list and links please
No
@@JacobVillemain ...don't tell me no, you put that got damn part list in the reply lol
@@SlimSlugga713 if you watched the video you would know I said exactly where to get the parts from…
@@JacobVillemain I'm playing bro lol. But let me rewatch 🤪
Did the kit change your push rod length?
Yes
What length did you end up with to include preload?
Why dont you have the manufacters names in the videos description ?? WTH ??
Are they made for solid rollers ?? Who makes these parts ??
I answered my own question . Texas speed makes the rockers you are using and Brian Tooley has the shaft . Heres some news PRW Also has rockers like that and are about $ 430 less !!!
With PRWs other chevy rockers the ratios are also Much faster off the seat for the valve . Thats Power !!!
Glad im now aware of rockers like these so thanks for that . However get it together for who makes what ok ??
Chrysler Corporation knew this decades ago
WOW, certainly not like to stamped rockers arms used to say a 327/365 or any BB of the 60's and 70's, i had a set of Crane AL roller rockers on my 427/425 67 Camaro Yenko clone
Seems these shaft kits are already blowing engines. Bushings fail, breaking clips and sending metal through the engine. Idk why this is not talked about more. They sell these as an upgrade, but their failure rate is pretty common. Read on many forms and look at reviews as on summits website. I am rebuilding and engine as we speak due to supposed trunion upgrade failure. Bearing crushed, clips broke, wiped out cam lifters and bearings. Stage 1 cam in a l76.
Bro I have questions that I believe you have the answers to in my gen3 hemi build, can You send me an email?
Sorry, I only work with LS
Sum this whole video in 3 words valve train stability
Going through all that to use a stock rocker body ? Why not buy all good parts nor stock junk
You must know quite a bit

Hey goofy you need to work on product information who makes the damn rockers.

That wording should get you a quick reply....
does anyone know if the CHE bronze bushing upgrade on the tsp roller rockers is compatible with the btr shaft mount diameters
