We need Nancy to break in on more classic literature characters about to make stupid decisions. Please let this be a series!
Yes yes yes!
I would love to see Faust 😄
Well, Nancy heard ya! 😂😂😂😂😂

I WANT TO SEE NOLKE start a series of fucked up POP SINGERS or BANDS that she stars in, so she can write some crazy songs in different genres!
Everyone forgets about Rosaline... he was HEAD OVER HEELS in love with her like TWELVE MINUTES BEFORE HE MET JULIET! Juliet wasn't even the first person he fell in love with THAT DAY!
Let me guess, Rosaline was older than Juliet.
Do you know why. Because R&J is not really about love but about war. R&J's love is a normal teenage one (and Rosaline is there to prove it) but it is unlucky enough to grow in a war situation.
Rosalind was the older, freer gal knowing and avoiding Romeo's shit, while Juilet is too young and sheltered and groomed to know self-defense, and thus is idealized and pursued. And not just by Romeo.
I thought this was Rosaline at first
@@RicardoMoralesMassin it SHOULD have been!

Julie continues to be great at acting against herself. And her makeup/costume capabilities really shone through in this one, she really looks convincingly like a dead man on that bed.
Holy crap. I was impressed by the New Yorker, but I didn't even think about the body... That's some good acting/editing/makeup/prosthetics. Haha
Ummm, that's NOT Julie on the bed. It's actually some dude playing dead; look really closely (3:16). I'm not sure that she has the budget for the amount of prosthetics that would've been needed to change the shape of her face THAT much. And the shape of the person's body and butt are not Julie. She probably just roped in a friend to be in her sketch, maybe by promising him free margaritas!🤣👍
@@nikig1605 (pssst, it was a joke, cause you know how Julie usually plays all of the characters in her sketches, so I was was making a joke related to that)
My friend's kid is studying Romeo and Juliet is school...He has just about made it through the Baz Luhrman movie. He is going to love this.
It's an awful story. Maybe in a time where the only other entertainment around was beating eachother in the head with sticks it was good but it's really overrated trash today.
What about the Dicaprio movie?
Julie’s such a good actor it took me a hot second to realize Nancy wasn’t another person
You can really tell that Julie has studied accents, her characters feel real and never get stale
Perhaps "Nancy" is Julie's real accent...
Accents are overrated. And when they are done by non-native speakers, they tend to be stereotypical caricatures making fun of native speakers. Good actors can make “characters feel real and never get stale” without accents.
This should be shown to every high school class as part of the "Romeo & Juliet" unit.
"Oh come one honey everyone and their mom was sleeping with him"
🤣🤣🤣 had me dead💀💀💀
"Rosaline" would have made more sense, but otherwise, very solid comedy
I mean Romeo was in "love" with Rosaline literally seconds before seeing Juliet. He only went to the party because Rosaline was there and even claims no one could be more lovely than her... Then he sees Juliet and BAM, forgets about Rosaline, and now is in love with Juliet without even talking to her... Just saying... Juliet could have done better.
Right on all counts. So it's a cautionary tale you take your daughters to see before they get all dreamy-eyed around guys. You take notes and see it again and again till she can name all the red flags and lack of due diligence. "Secret marriage!" C'mon man!
100%.
If she had been a little older and less impressed by his overtures, I’m certain he would have moved on very quickly.
I always struggled with this part of this play at school.
@@jamesdewane1642 My daughters will learn to hate this xD
@@jspettifer Well, the play was meant as basically a parody of young, dumb love, and how love and hate can make people act like fools. People think it's some tragic love story, but it was written to the extremes to specifically disparage that trope.
Well…. Juliet didn’t have many choices. It was pretty much take a chance on the smooth-talking pretty boy, find herself a virgin married to a middle-aged stranger in a couple of days, or become a nun. At least this way she got some with a person she chose first? Bet Nancy could help her make the best of the new marriage, though!

Romeo being alive the whole time has some very dark implications for how he ends his relationships...

He's clearly misunderstood the term "ghosting"
Gaslighting with poison gas...
I know many people have said this, but it bears repeating....This channel has been the best discovery for me during COVID. Endlessly entertaining.
Honestly, I like this so much more than William's version. He was such a drama queen.
To be fair to William, he never published this. I believe I read this was published after his death alongside other incomplete/unpublished works. Boy knew it was lowkey trash
@@ivanvalentin7713 That is a huge invasion of his privacy! His ghost should sue everyone involved... or at least their heirs.
@@ensa89 Um, I also read he has no heirs. I believe his last name was lost, uh in any case regardless of individuals feelings about it respecting the privacy of dead people seems rather... Wasteful! I may believe it's hot trash but knowing he didn't publish it gives me some context into the artist. It's rather common for dead artist's unpublished work to surface, sometimes hugely in part because of their families pushing for it. I dunno, seems to me like you may be looking at this from a pretty one-sided perspective. I think it's awesome we get to see hot trash they were too embarrassed to share while they were alive, unless they explicitly ask otherwise on their will which is not unheard of
Keep in mind, Shakespeare's point was that this whole situation is BAD. It's a tragedy, not a proper love story! Basically the message is "Hey parents! Stop your feuding or it might end up killing your over-dramatic idiot kids!"
@@ivanvalentin7713 I did a tiny bit of research and saw that Romeo and Juliet was published way after Shakespeare's death, so he has no say in it anyway, legally speaking. But anyways I don't think it's awesome to share something someone might be embarrassed about.

Staying in character for the sponsor. That is just so fun.
Julia is the only person who makes me stay for the sponsor ad.
Absolutely in-character for Romeo. He starts the play pining over some girl and as an audience we have expectations like "oh I thought he had to meet Juliet, didn't know they already had a thing" and then he drops the name and it isn't Juliet at all, it's Rosaline, but as soon as Juliet appears we never hear of her again.
Also grateful for the inclusion of Juliet's age; a lot adaptations and retellings leave out that facet but all her decisions make so much more sense when you realize that she's basically just a child being strung along by this creepy Italian groomer.
A bit harsh, especially considering he ends up killing himself because he thinks she's dead. Not exactly the actions of a 'player' :-)
well in those days it was common to get married around 14, and without birth control, and with women dying in childbirth, it was not uncommon for a man to have one wife after another. So the husbands were normally older than the wife
@@recoveringsoul755 Ok. To be fair I used to think this. It was not common to get married at 14. However it was not unheard of for wealthy families to marry off at that age. Now, even if they did marry young it was super common for them to not consummate the marriage till they were older.
@@recoveringsoul755 Yes, that too. Arden 3 considers Romeo as "probably a teenager like Juliet", with his age in Bandello (one of Shakespeare's sources) as "between 20 and 21", while in the sources Juliet is "16 or 18", so the age gap is relatively consistent. It's not as if he's supposed to be an experienced adult either. This is probably why he misrecognises his feelings for Rosaline as 'true love', only to be thoroughly whacked around the head by his first experience of the Real Thing when he meets Juliet.
I think people just latch onto the 'Juliet is 14' thing, forget context (historical and textual) and are too quick to judge a C17th play through the filters of C21st sexual and gender politics, which is... well, let's say regrettable :-)
Italian groomer xD

It was a tragedy that Nancy didn't say the classic (though somewhat altered) line of "O Romeo, Romeo wherefore art thou $20 thine oweth me?".
“Wherefore” actually means “why” in Early Modern English.
"where now art thy/thine $20 thou oweth me", perhaps? :D ("where now" to keep the two syllables from "wherefore")
"O Romeo, Romeo why dost thou refuse to pay me thine debt of $20?"
Oh Julie, oh Julie, where art thou my fair Julie. Your face is the moon and your acting like the stars on the Silver Screen. And this skit shows your beauty, talent, creativity and range. BRAVO!!!
R and J: The Bronx version. I love Nan's accent! The Nanny does Shakespeare. But she is right. Once a Montague, always a Montague. Words of wisdom for today's, uh, 13 year olds (Yikes!) ....Made my Thursday, yet again Julie. Oh that this too solid flesh would resolve itself and melt into a dew . . . etc.
The Nanny/Fran Drescher’s accent is more of a Queens/Jewish accent (not quite The Bronx). In this vid, Julie is doing more of an Italian New York accent (a la Mona Lisa Vito from My Cousin Vinny), which can indeed be found in the Bronx and also parts of Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens, and Long Island.
That 'one hit wonder' Lenny did it with Manhattan a while back.
Not to be pedantic but…wrong play…that was that dithering idiot piglet’s second soliloquy. “…or that the everlasting had not fixed his canon ‘gainst self slaughter. To die, to sleep…to sleep, perchance to dream, aye there’s the rub…for in that sleep of death what dreams may come must give us pause…etc.” Basically a rehash of his first “To be or not to be, that is the question. Whether ‘tis nobler of the mind to suffer the slings and arrows etc.” I mean really…come ON Hammy…the guy killed your dad, slept with your mom AND took over the family business…off him already.

Love that she stayed in character for the advert.
Let’s not forget that Romeo killed a member of her family in a pointless duel. Dude’s a loser. Move on.
Hilarious as always.
Whoa!!!! Whoa whoa!!! Romeo did not kill Tybalt for some pointless reason. Romeo actually tried really hard to not fight Tybalt. As a matter of fact, Tybalt was instigating the fight so much that Mercutio, Hamlet's Friend, had to step in because it was embarrassing. The only reason that Romeo fights Tybalt s because Tybalt killed his best friend. It was out of vengeance and honor, not even close to a "Pointless duel". Tybalt is the bad guy in that situation, not Romeo.
@@CCUFilmClub , would thy name be…Montague? (Casually bites thumb)
At the start of the play Romeo was obsessed with Rosaline.
Sure he would have been off Juliet and onto the next chick in a couple of weeks.
@@jspettifer I think many people fail to realize that Romeo was a 19 year old kid. Both he and Juliet are naive and foolish about the concept of love. How many of us cried over the loss of our two week middle school relationship? Is he dramatic, yes, but that's kinda the point. The reason he was so heart broken about Rosaline is BECAUSE he is a spoiled rich kid who doesn't know anything about love. When he meets Juliet, he's supposed to discover "TRUE" love. To him, Juliet is the one true love he's meant to be with. This is clear in the fact that he decides to marry her. His behavior when trying to quell Tybalt from fighting is also a sign that he has matured, at least a little. In the end both he and Juliet show their immaturity. I mean no one talks about the fact that Juliet was willing to kill herself first, that's how all this got started. Romeo got banished and Juliet couldn't live without him, so she went to Friar Lawerence. The entire "I'm gonna pretend to die, but not die" plan was Friar Lawerence's idea. I just feel like Romeo gets so much hate, when he TOO is a teenager in love. Yes I know Juliet is 13 but, once again, that was VERY normal for the time period. You can't hold a fictional character in a period piece to the same standards of us today.
@CCUFILMCLUB I agree that Romeo is supposed to also be immature and impetuous and therefore not to be fully blamed, but I think that also supports the point that his love for Juliet is likely no deeper than his love for Rosaline. They talk for about 15 minutes total before their marriage. It was not normal in 14th C Italy or in 16th C England for a 13 year old girl to marry. The average age at marriage for a 16th C Englishwoman was 25 (European Marriage Trends). Shakespeare wanted his audience (like a contemporary one) to think, "she's way too young! They're just kids!" People believe everybody got married so young because of the somewhat common arranged engagements/marriages (alliances) among royalty and the aristocracy, but this was not the norm even among the aristocracy and if either or both were really young they generally stayed with their respective parents until they were in at least their mid teens.
Italian Julie from Brooklyn was not something I thought we deserve but was definitely needed!!
Love this! Obsessed with that accent and your pink velvet shirt. I feel Nancy needs to befriend Miss Havisham from Great Expectations. Maybe if she'd drowned her sorrows in margs with the girls instead of becoming a recluse and wearing nothing but her wedding dress, she could have lived a full and happy life 🍸🍹
This is the version they should teach in school and all high school plays need to adopt this revision
Ok. Nance is officially the second best character, behind Mirror Julie!
