She reminds me of Roy Orbison in so many ways, but as though he were still alive making new material for me to cry my eyes out over. He was such a gift not just in his performance, but his writing.

She has a very strong presence. I don't know what it is precisely, maybe it's a combination of everything, but her voice, her gaze, and the subject matter and composition of her music just immediately causes a hush. Like when someone says, "Shut up," followed immediately by something profound and impactful to say. She just calms rowdy people in a good way.

There's a lot of argument on this video about dynamics, and the fact that her songs are simple.
    Take St. Vincent for example.
St. Vincent's music has similar qualities, and she's one of the most incredible songwriters out there. What Angel has created, is something incredibly heart wrenching, and I love her story telling. It's nice to step back from all the hooplah of distortion and guitar pedals, and all that jazz.
For me It's about the songwriting , music has to tell a story. Everything else is secondary. What Angel Olsen does, is unique, and her guitar work isn't like jack white or anything, but the fact that her music is raw , is why I like it. It's not over dressed to be something else. it's a take it or leave it sort of thing.

Since when does “technically superior” translate to a better listening experience? I know plenty of guitarists who can fly across the fretboard-that doesn't mean I can listen to them run scales for more than a few minutes. Despite the simple arrangements, this young lady's performance is very well done. It's definitely a good listening experience.

She makes me believe that we've forgotten what music is…. with all of this processed garbage out there. It seems to get worse all the time - pardon the pessimism, just what I notice. Music should be sincere, not processed and faked. This is sincere. Like it from the earth, her heart and soul rather than her experiences with an iPhone or computer.

    It all just falls apart
But when I look into your eyes
    It pieces up my heart
If I only had an answer
To put it all to bed
I wish sometimes I could take back
    Every word I've said
I walk back in the night alone
Got caught up in my song
    Forgot where I was sleeping
None of the lights were on
I heard my mother thinking me right back into my birth
I laughed so loud inside myself it all began to hurt
So I turned on a picture show
    I disappeared the lines
    As memories came flooding in
The tears blew out my eyes
    I see an elevator
    A moment I am above
I look for you or someone
Who can still remind me of
The tight grip and the sun lick
And the calm way of all things summer
    When it's all here
    And it's all new
    And you're not hungover
    Fierce and light and young
    Fierce and light and young
When you don't know that you're wrong
Or just how wrong you are
    My feet are always heavy
As I inch toward the door
I thought we'd leave this for ourselves a hundred times before
But I guess we're always leaving even when we look the same
And it eases me somehow to know that even this will change
If you've still got some light in you then go before it's gone
Burn your fire for no witness it's the only way it's done
    Fierce and light and young
    Fierce and light and young

You are all so absolutely amazing
Can't even begin to express what this all means to me
Now that I finally found the truth
I'm sorry you had to feel all my confusion and pain
It was hard getting back home to all of you
I'm sorry for arriving a little late
    And not the greatest condition
    But I am
    And I am alive
    Bless you all be well

I don't know how I came across White Fire but it got me hooked and here I am finally listening to more of her music. Amazing vocal range and such an easy going personality 💛

Jesus, her guitar technique is entirely irrelevant. Her voice is absolutely chock full of technique that most singers don't and couldn't achieve in a lifetime of desperate grasping. Her phrasing, her texturing, and her Belief in every micro-unit of the expressive powers of her voice is remarkable. Her lyrics are very good, but it is her voice that makes them bleed and gush. Her's is the sound of cut flowers bending in deathly praise to time itself. So go eat your guitar technique and shit it out again in your golden bowl, you golden boys, but enjoy doing so alone for the rest of your life: whoever wishes to comment on her guitar technique.

Poetic line, Mr Butler, "Her's is the sound of cut flowers bending in deathly praise to time itself." Let's hope time doesn't blow her away like other fragile flowers, eh? Dark eyes, dark mood---have you seen Rosamund Pike, in Gone Girl? Is Angel Olsen a 'gone girl'?

Hey bud she's a pretty girl. Not perhaps a factor in your evaluation? Just saying!

      Barry Nelson
It's pretty condescending to call her a "fragile flower" just because she sings emotionally. Also the Gone Girl comparison makes absolutely no sense, I can't even explain how little sense it makes without giving away spoilers.David Watermeyer People can be attractive and talented, doubt you would have brought up your "point" if this video/comment had been an attractive man. David Butler You are super awesome!

Why people are always comparing talented women with men, like... She is the female Orbinson... Gosh, NO, she is Angel Olsen, and she is amazing, and unique. If here MUSIC has something similar with an artist, ok, that's one thing, but, she is not a talented being LIKE a famous man. She is a talented woman, period.

Because many people have an inclination toward sharing commonalities, it's what bonds us as social creatures, and doing it thru music that resonates with you and reminds you of songs/artists of your youth makes you feel good, helps remember good times. People always point out similarities or comparisons wether it be stylistically, harmonically, or acknowledging a physicality that they recognize. Human beings are fond of ubiquitous and universal themes as they help the aforementioned bond between us strengthen because of their prevalence.
Or sometimes people like for other people to remind them of other people, and when other people agree, they feel like they pointed out something astute and that gives them a warm fuzzy feeling.

Nobody does that. It’s just your selective feminist mind. New artists are always compared to other more established regardless of the gender.

Omg yes. I was just rewatching her latest NPR performance, and I realized that as she finished one song and started introducing the next one, she would stop mid sentence, not finish what she was saying and start playing almost abruptly. I thought to myself that it seemed as if she was going in and out of consciousness as she entered this whimsical gloomy world that she created, and maybe has always habited inside her mind. It's so beautiful to see it happening, it feels like watching magic.
