Video interview with American folk/indie rock singer and guitarist Angel Olsen. FaceCulture spoke with Angel about her upcoming album My Woman, bands she played in, working with Bonnie Prince Billy, creating a live feel, playing with a band, changing her sound, staying sane, challenging herself, the importance of playing live, making a comprehensive album, taking care of herself, being protective of the creative process, producers, different musical influences, expectations, and a lot more! Woah dude that's so cool, what was she like?
***** Well it was 10 years ago. We stayed in this apartment in St.Louis` southside with what seemed like a revolving door of artists and musicians. She was always light-hearted and fun-loving. Never once did I see her get opinionated with anyone or too bothered by something out of her control. Very chill person who loved to steal t-shirts WAYYY too small for her and keep them forever. I will let you do the math there but honestly, I am down 2 shirts and never said a word.

Just discovered Angel recently... I love her sound.. I'd describe her music as Southern Gothic, or David Lynch meets Hank Williams !! Plaintive.. And occasionally eerie!

I'm a musician [nowhere near as high profile as she is] and Angel speaks a universal truth about people's expectations of you and the image you project that they latch on to, little realising you're just an ordinary person like them. A very common misconception is that somehow a famous artist has some other etherial quality. They don't. it's just your perceptions playing tricks on you.

My Woman is such a beautiful album, I listened to it for the first time today in my car. So many emotions that are clearly soaked right through every track. Her music has progressed so much from her first album and the production and vocals on this new album are insanely good. Definitely going to be one of my favourite albums of the year, can't wait to see her live next month!
