- Behind the scenes to the making of Mickey's Christmas Carol- SOOOO my favorite movie back in 1984!! I still have all 5 stuffed characters from Hardee's I got back then, and I hope soon to upload them as a small collection video. Oddly enough, I didn't realize all these years that the voice of the octopede "Grubby" from the World of Teddy Ruxpin was Willie the giant- Ghost of Christmas Present. I hope you enjoy this behind the scenes, as much as I did.
This cartoon moved me deeply when I was a kid 😭😭😭😭

In 1983, it was 30 years since the last theatrical Mickey Mouse cartoon was made, and now it is 30 years since Mickey's Christmas Carol was made. The Simple Things may have been the last of the original run (hand inking, shorts department, Disney and the old generation still alive and such), but at least Mickey's Christmas Carol was still cel animation and 100% analog. That alone makes it a little special.
Now it’s 40 years.
Even though Mickey's Christmas Carol was animated like the earliest Disney films, it sure had a lot of young animators. Notably Burny Mattinson, Mark Henn, and Glen Keane.
Not to mention John Lassetter, one of the founders of Pixar and former director, executive producer at both Disney and Pixar and creative consultat at the Disney Parks.

R.I.P. Alan Young (Scrooge), Eddie Carroll (Jiminy Cricket), Wayne Allwine (Mickey), Clarence Nash (Donald, who, I believe, gave his last full length movie preformance here) & Hal Smith (Goofy).
Also, kind of strange to hear Wayne talk about a possible 4th Mickey, especially when this is now the case.

The animation in this movie is fantastic, top notch. I would have really liked to learn more about the background artists as well because they scenery and design in it is really well done.
RIP Burny Mattinson. One of the true keepers of the Disney flame through the end of one golden age of Disney animation and the reign of two more.
There was an unofficial 4th Mickey. Peter Renaday, who voiced Micke on record albums like 'Mousercise', and 'Splashdance'. He would later go on to voice Master Slpinter in the original 'Ninja Turtles' series.

"Mickey's Christmas Carol" actually came out in 1983. This program actually came from the end of the film on the 1984 VHS of the film.

This special was featured on the 1984 VHS release of "Mickey's Christmas Carol". It was never included as part of the bonus feature on the DVD or Blu-Ray release of the film. I saw this when I was a kid when we rented the movie at a video store.

This was the last time Clarence Nash was the voice of Donald Duck. From then on Donald Duck was voiced by Tony Anselmo.

I believe that Clarence Nash had passed away after this production.
Well Clarence and Tony both worked on "Who framed Roger Rabbit", but I'm not sure how much "Ducky" Nash did.
What is so funny is that this movie and The Return of the Jedi were the two great movies that was made the year I was born (Jedi was released a bit over a month after my birth, I was born April 22).
Upon seeing Mickey's Christmas Carol for the first time, I truly thought it was made back when Walt Disney was still alive. It looks too old to be from the 1980's.
I'm almost twenty-seven now. When we were watching this last year when it came on tv, my mom told me how she remembered me when I was a little guy about two or three years old and said I had a crush on Daisy Duck.
If Disney made more crossover films similar to Mickey's Christmas Carol. There should be a way to convince Disney to do something similar to that and have it produced in hand drawn. There should also be a petition that can help make it happen someday.

Andrea The Kingdom Hearts and Sora I love it so much too! I've read the book three times and I think it's a wonderful classic. I also love the other A Christmas Carol adaptation 'Scrooge' from 1970
I think Hal Smith also voiced Goofy in several educational cartoons of the same period.

1984 VHS tapes Mickey's Christmas carol
The fourth Mickey voice, Bret Iwan - who took over after the death of Wayne Allwine in 2009 - was around 1 year old when Mickey's Christmas Carol debuted.
And Wayne Allwine's widow is the current voice of Minnie Mouse (she started in '86).

Yeah he is credited one of the "creative talents" of this film. Wonder if he was doing in-between animation or something since I knew he was an animator during the early 80's before being fired from Disney when he failed to convince the Disney Executives to make Brave Little Toaster.

Yeah, Wayne was right that there would be fourth person to fill in for Mickey's voice and that's Bret Ivan. If he ony knew that a fifth person would do it at the same time, being Chris Diamantopoulos but only in the modern Mickey shorts. Think it's weird why they just didn't use Bret Ivan in everything that has to do with Mickey like Bill Farmer for Goofy and Tony Aselmo for Donald Duck, I mean neither of them have a stand-by second voice actor unlike Mickey.
Chris D isn't a stand-by second-stringer -- Brett Iwan does the gentler or more steady Mickey of Playhouse and Roadster Racers while Chris D does the wackier performances needed for the Rudish-directed shorts

We all loved this growing up and still do. Looking at this “behind the scenes” though, I can’t help but notice the absence of diversity in their staffing. I hope that’s changed over the years.

@Dixie72089: I assume that scene is an exclusive to this behind the scenes documentary and didn't actually appear on any feature length cartoon but I'm sure others that are much more educated about Disney cartoons have an answer.
