This was the first major Muppet project after creator Jim Henson's death. The role of Kermit the Frog was handed down to Steve Whitmire. He said he was incredibly nervous about taking over such an iconic character. The night before he recorded Kermit's songs for the movie, he had a dream where he met Henson in a hotel lobby and told him how unsure he was. In the dream, Henson reassured Whitmire that the feeling would pass. After waking up, Whitmire was confident and able to do the part.

@EvanJoestar Talking of Jim Henson and Richard Hunt, I think that even though Steve Whitmire did great at taking over Kermit it should be wiser to let more of not just Jim's characters but also Richards characters live on. For instance, Brian Henson should choose Kevin Clash and himself to take on the roles of Statler and Waldorf and with Rowlf and Scooter. What do you think? Please tell me.
@@theatergeek82 You know I think director Brian Henson should choose Kevin Clash and himself to take over the roles of Statler and Waldorf instead of Jerry nelson and Dave Golez, just to make it sound more the same. What do you think it would be like if he did?
The ""Muppet Treasure Island" was very good too. I think they have a new niche. Making films of classic literature. After bringing a meal of bread and water to a muppet in the brig (jail on a ship). His response: "But I ordered the Shrimp Scampy!"
Just love this movie took my 2 young kids to watch it at the cinema when it was released they're all grown up now but I still love to watch it I've nothing but amazing memories with all the Muppets film's and TV shows
A brief but thorough glimpse behind (or should I say "beneath"?) the scenes without destroying the 'magic' of the muppets' characters. Is there anything they don't do well? I doubt it. Thank you for uploading this to share it with us.
It's a tricky thing, showing behind the scenes without at least some of the magic being whisked away, The muppets might physically be puppets in the logical part of my mind, but in the part of my mind that controls my wonder in the world and my love of animation in all its many forms, the muppets are as real as you or me.
It is a shame live action psyhical effects (puppeteering being prominent) has been phased out for CGI which while cheap it is hard to pass a believeability about it. Modern movies look too clean as a result (could also be because the expnonential increase in recording technology) though as much as digital animation has become the new standard the old ways surpass them.
The Muppets are different then a practical effect. They are living, breathing characters brought to life by the performers. They are characters first and foremost.
3:33 You can sense the sadness in Frank Oz’ eyes. I’m sure the process was overwhelming for him since this was the first Muppet production without Jim and wishing he was there.
Thanks so much for sharing this! It's so cool to see how they actually filled certain scenes. (And I hope I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this feature was NOT on the DVD my family owns. I wonder why?) It was especially awesome to see Dave Goelz and Steve Whitmire doing Gonzo and Rizzo, as I've become a fan of those Muppeteers.

The first Muppet film after Jim’s death. I think they had a great run all through the 90’s. After that, it just wasn’t the same. I mean, the Wizard of Oz version wasn’t bad. The recent Muppet films are just missing something...
