  • Welcome back to the channel for another car review! This video is all about this 2006 Cadillac XLR-V. This is an extremely rare, sporty, and beautiful car that is seemingly under-appreciated in the car world. I'll take a detailed look at the exterior and interior of the XLR-V, take it for a drive, and give my thoughts on the vehicle. A big thanks goes out to my Dad for helping me make the video. I hope you'll enjoy it!

I had an 08 XLR-V (new); I liked it so much that I drove it much more as a daily driver than I ever expected. I'm an idiot for trading it in (especially since I saw my very car sell on eBay, just a year or so ago, for quite a bit more than I traded it for... almost a decade later!).

i have one, ive had it for 8 yrs. Love/hate it. Trunk stop light has fallen off and into pieces on the highway twice. New one is 175. Tail light lenses ive not had to replace but they are $3200 each, just the lens, and,,,,when you can find them. The car was priced waaaay toooo much when it came out and there are very few on the roads, none in the junk yards and cadillac has no part for them. Mine has done as well as 30 mpg if im very careful, but usually 22. Also, i tried it once to 153mph and it was still pulling strong there but that was enough for me. I have new brakes but need the map disc for the navigation system as mine is old and needs an update, but its not standard with anything so i cant just run to garmin and get one. Battery went bad and i couldnt get into the car so i had to do the bumper plug on the lower left, use the key, open the trunk, open the panel on the left side inside the trunk, pull the cable there and open the drivers door. What a pain. I now have a new battery but once its installed, the computer needs a reset and as i understand it, you have to go through some crazy gyrations to get it going again. When i switched batteries in 1968 we didnt have these problems. I love the car,,,mechanically its great,,,,but electronics and lack of parts is upsetting me. If anyone wants a black one with 88k miles give me a call, alabama 256 585 4600

I have an 05 XLR...clipped it with my Hummer so I added an 09 v hood and complete front end....mine is silver so I added a black stripe on the hood, added 20 inch wheels, a sway bar from my 02 z06 and then went off and had a kid 7 years ago so it just sat. Now I'm ready to roll in it again and my tires are dry rotted, the battery keeps going dead, my shocks started leaking, the suspension boots on the end links rotted, the tail light power supply went out, the radiator is leaking and the fuel sender is not working so......I've been on this mission to get her running again and it's happening slowly. Thank God I know how to do most of this stuff otherwise it would be crazy expensive to fix.
Congrats on an extremely fun car to own.

One of my all time favorite cars right here, right now XLR’s and XLR-V’s aren’t too hard RELATIVELY to get ahold of in nice condition and decent miles.
People will be discarded because of the high cost to maintain and repair this vehicle but that will only further drive the rarity and the scarcity of these as people won’t want anything to do with them.
Mark my words and feel free to screenshot this post. This vehicle in the future will be a very rare collectors car, especially and more exclusively the “V” variants.
Get them now while they are somewhat attainable.

I have the same colour in my 2008 XLR. I have the optional Mesh Grille, bumped hood and drilled and slotted Rotors. Z-06 wheels. Cad monogramed Trunk and Hood felts. Sadly if you are in a minor crash Headlights are no longer available along with many other parts. My hood must be released from inside. Note that there are Door Handles along the foot well incase the battery or release don't work which can happen. If the door unlock button does not work, first try the Lock Unlock buttons on Drivers door. There are backup warning lights between the back seat. Tach and Speedo switch from Metric to Normal. Bvlgari means nothing special to me. My base XLR has the phony wood trim. Battery will Drain parasitcally in 3 week. Keep a battery tender plugged in.
I have found leaving the Negative cable off will sometimes clear weird things like trunk opening.
The Caddy windscreen that fits to the roll bars is very good. Colour is Crystal Red Tintkote. Memory (2) seats and steering wheel. Hood release on left kickpanel. I put a hidden (+) connector cable near the splitter so I can charge from outside if you cannot get into the car via rear bumper. I also put a hidden choke cable release for the hood. Proximity speed control can get you in trouble if you get behind a slow car and the brakes come on automatically. I have the 4 volume 600+ page manuals for i t.

Another thing, it's common for the front turn signal to blow out and melt the housing. I've been looking for a replacement "without" the same issue and can't, the ones I have found have the same issue and are running around $7k

Great vid! I have an 04, (V-Spec in this car didn't debut until '06) and it's been a lot of fun. Be glad you don't have the adaptive cruise - it was an early iteration of today's systems and doesn't work well. Mine freaks out and slams on the brakes for a second if bridge supports are tight to the road. I kept the Mag-Ride shocks, others go with Bilsteins and an adapter to fool the computer into thinking they're still there. The magnetorheological shocks are available, and are expensive. Corvette suspension parts fit, mine was ready for a rear sway bar and it bolted right on. As with any vehicle that's showing its age, parts do need to be replaced, the Northstar, although rid of its earlier head bolt issues in previous models, will leak a bit. The transmission is notoriously slow shifting by today's standards. It's very rewarding to drive, though. I've taken mine on a few 1K+ mile trips and it'll pull 30 mpg at the posted speed limits. Just overall a great car.

Ah, thank you for the correction! I’m surprised Cadillac didn’t put the Z06 brakes on the XLR-V. They must have thought the Z51 would be good enough? That’s really neat you’ve owned several rare high performance Cadillacs! Do you prefer the XLR-V over the STS-V?

@@JW_Reviews personally think they should have threw the z06 brakes on there. And I'll take the xlr over the sts any day lol. The top less environmental is why. I also hate telling people every 5 minutes my car isn't an ctsv 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It is nice when you can purchase your dream car. All the best to you. I had no idea this car was this loaded. I still think about Allante when I see this car. It is in a way Allante reborn. That is just my opinion. The Northstar engine issues were worked out by this time too. These are indeed rare and collectible. Cadillac did a great job and they are indeed trying to get that magic back. I suibscribed to your channel.

I'm here a year or so late but just a comment about adaptive cruise control not being available on the V series cars, I had both a base 2008 STS with the standard Northstar V8 that had adaptive cruise control and an '08 STS-V (at different times), and I can say it was a blessing not having it on the V. Every STS with adaptive cruise always had the radar crap out which disabled cruise control altogether. I hope one day to perhaps find an XLR-V I can afford to buy and keep as well. Gorgeous cars, and the supercharger whine is simply intoxicating.

This car reminds me of me playing midnight club 3 DUB edition and midnight club LA, in midnight club 3 DUB edition remix i had the regular XLR with a custom flame paint job, custom muscle car rims, and custom front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper, and fully upgraded performance. And for midnight club LA i had the XLR V with a wide body kit, custom rims, decals, goldish yellow paint and upgraded performance parts.

I totally agree with you. The XLR is a beautiful car with some nice features. The only thing that Cadillac did poorly was the navigation system. I have a 2006 with the navigation system and I don't use it. My cellphone has a more user friendly GPS that I use all the time.
I think that you did a great job on the presentation with one comment. Your speech could be slower and show the slides longer.

I've been a Cadillac owner for more than 20 years now, 3 Escalades, 2 Eldorados, 1 STS-V, 1 STS, 1 DeVille, and now an ELR. If I find an 09 XLR for a bargain I'll likely pick one up as a weekend car to replace my 96 Corvette that my knee just can't handle the clutch in anymore.
As much as I like the looks of the XLR, GM really missed the ball trying to market it against the Mercedes SL series cars, trying to charge almost the same price as one and coming up short in a few places like the archaic radio/nav system. The XLR's nav is the same one I had in my 03 STS, is years behind what came in my 07 Escalade and 07 STS-V. Then GM abandoned their owners by not producing replacement parts anymore. I'm curious what you have to pay for insurance on your XLR and if it was hard to get coverage. I understand on an earlier base XLRs, a deer hit that takes out the headlights and hood can total the car because even a used headlight assembly in good condition can cost $5000 now for just one side, taillights almost as expensive.
If I don't find a bargain XLR I'll likely go with a 2013-2017 MB SL550. They are really sharp looking vehicles, the 4.7L Twin Turbo V8, and some of the creature comforts that GM never had, like the air scarf function to warm your neck on those cool nights when you want to enjoy the top down, and now LED headlights along with quite a few of the common safety features you get with a newer vehicle. The newer SL series is very comparable in price now to what an older XLR costs, and way more competitively priced than an XLR-V. And best of all, parts are nowhere near as scarce as for an XLR.
