I think this is my favorite depiction of SCP-3000. The "giant morray eel" look is cool and all, but this is just..so much more frightening. The whale-like ventral pleats, the pale, cataracted eyes, the thin hair-like filaments going along its body, the disfigured jawline; it's just, such a perfect design to capture the horror of this SCP.

At 4200 feet, the depth they are supposed to be at it would be pitch black, zero light, they would only be able to see as far as their light source penetrated, which is not far. Also 4200 feet depth is beyond the crush depth of all but a few scientific research vessels and RPVs. And why would any gas from a "gas vent" affect the crew sealed in a sub? 1) As is generally known, submarines also use their periscopes underwater. And they extend them for the sole purpose of producing found footage.
    2) As is well known, whales love to swim in formation with military submarines and have such poor perception that they cannot sense any of the lurking / looming dangers.

One really grim detail I noticed was that Langley was still screaming after the sub was bitten in half. And right as it's rearing its head up and swallowing the sub fully, you can just faintly hear his blood curdling screams before it's abruptly cut off once 3000 closes its mouth.

Quick summary: Whenever this thing eats it creates a powerful substance which is harvested, refined and used as the foundations amnestic source.
Without it, the foundation would be forced to use less effective or more dangerous forms of amnestic so, this one is paramount to the foundations operational capacity and the means to keep The Veil over normal society
