  • Today I take a Ford F-150 Lightning to a Tesla supercharger and try out the new A2Z Tesla NACS to CCS adapter. We also check out a nearby ATV trail.

    I'm gonna say, "if you have to park sideways, just head on down to the EA site."

      I agree. I will always try the public infrastructure first. I even do that in my Tesla.

      Missing the point that the Tesla network IS "public infrastructure"?

    All the bollards are being removed from Supercharger locations. If you revisit that location you will most likely see all the red bollards gone and you will be able to easily pulling in close enough to charge. Note that when approaching wait until the park assist has got at least full red and solid tone - then, with your foot on the brake, activate the parking brake to prevent roll.

    Don't know why the bollards on that station are so far forward. Maybe they had too many accidents with stall being hit there? I have never seen that before.
    I've seen Lightings being a tight fit on Magic Docks sites, but getting super close to the bollards worked. You don't have to park your Lighting sideways to charge your lightning on any other V3 Supercharger station I've seen.

      Maybe it's a safety standard here in Canada that isn't implemented elsewhere 🤔.

      @@livewirereview If it isn't, Tesla should be contacted to remove them. Tesla removed them on a New York magic dock site, even though the Lightning could still charge there with a tight fit prior.

    Oh wow Jeremy, I'm sure you can see all the issues going forward, blocking a busy charging station, taking up more than one stall, as a Tesla owner, I'm not liking this one...

    • @livewirereview
      @livewirereview  6 месяцев назад +1

      However, as an EV owner, I'm excited for this transition. Luckily, all version 4 units will solve this problem with longer cables.

    • @Paul-cj1wb
      @Paul-cj1wb 6 месяцев назад +1

      Most of us don't mind, so speak for yourself. I've yet to meet a Tesla owner that minds. You only lose 1 stall for the whole site, even if the rest are full, if all drivers learn to park correctly on both sides.

    • @livewirereview
      @livewirereview  6 месяцев назад

      @Paul-cj1wb Yup! Usually, there are plenty of empty stalls. 12 to choose from here rather than 1 lonely 50kw. Besides, about 4 Teslas charged and left before I even finished shooting this video.

    Nice demo!
    They really need to step up and upgrade chargers to V4. They have longer cables and will alleviate most of the issues you have with cable reach. Currently there are none in North America though :(

    • @livewirereview
      @livewirereview  6 месяцев назад

      I hope they retrofit cables on the older ones or offer a clever solution in the future!

    • @Paul-cj1wb
      @Paul-cj1wb 6 месяцев назад +1

      There are quite a few V4 stations in the US now, actually. And growing rather quickly. Having said that, even though the stalls are there with their longer cables, they still only provide a maximum of around 250kw because the actual charging cabinets are still V3's. Tesla is trying to get all the charging data they can on their Cybertruck before upgrading the actual chargers (the cabinets in the background) since the Cybertruck is 800v and need all the info they can before opening them for 350kw charging.
      It's not going to help the Lighting, though, or any current Ford, with faster charging because they're all 400v architecture. But the longer, thicker cables will really help. The Ford's can still get their maximum charging speeds on V3 chargers.

      "They" really need to agree an industry standard for charge port position on vehicles.
      One decision early in the CCS Consortium meeting process (2011?) to adopt a "front right/ rear left" location in the next model rotation would have solved the problem.
      .
      Instead it was "just use the same location as the vehicles you're converting".
      .
      It's not Tesla's problem.

    SMH, this should be title how not to charge at Tesla Super Charger. People see, others do and it becomes a pattern as it expands to others.

      I'm willing to try this again in the future. The second time, I just followed the park assist. Either way, it still takes up 2 spots. Luckily, they will be selling cable extensions soon.

      There are bollards at chargers here in Canada. I pulled up to within 1 inch of the bollards on each attempt using the front cameras. Unlike the ones in the US, you can't pull up over the curb here.

      I just watched that one. There were no bollards in the way, and he was able to put the front bumper over the curb. The Port Severn one has bollards that prevent me getting any closer. Thanks for the video link! That is helpful in areas without bollards!
