That was a scarily close call. The passengers don't know how lucky they are. A few more seconds and they would've landed in Birmingham and who wants that?!😉
Robin Wells yup but I would prefer Birmingham than Stanstead anyday. N that’s some alternate airport to go to, I would of thought of maybe East Midlands or Coventry but all the way south to Stansted, I hope they got another flight on to Birmingham as that would be a hellish bus journey
The 787 dreamliner is really sleek and has beautiful wings. I just flew on a dreamliner with LOT airlines, they have several in different configurations. In my opinion it has the most aesthetically pleasing wings on any airplane. When it’s parked and you’re able to view the different curves of the wing and are able to compare it to the other plane’s generic straight wings with generic tips the realization sets in of how complex and modern this plane is.
My Dad was an ATC at Birmingham for over 30 years, from the 60's till he retired before 2000... Before he became an ATC he was an RAF fighter pilot, he flew meteor jets, 65 squadron.... He's still with us in his middle 80's..., no one from Birmingham comes to visit him.... My dad always visited retired ATC's , until his most divesting stroke at 63.... Albert Howard is my dad's name... xxx
we were on that flight, very frightening.but thankfully we landed ok at Stanstead,it was amazing how many people were complaining. We had our luggage delivered to our house friday about 9pm.hope we dont fly in another storm.
Wow!! This video had me holding my breath for the full fifteen minutes. Kudos for the pilots in tricky, potentially dangerous weather and kudos for you for filming such a scary incident! Glad you all landed safely.
It's amazing when everything seemed so calm above the clouds, but things got so shaky after entering and exiting them! Great video nonetheless, subscribed!
I congratulate the pilots for getting you down safely..and for the people that clapped well done..Birmingham is renowned for cross wind and turbulence..so the pilot made the right choice.I travel from Birmingham alot and I'd rather be on a bus back to Birmingham than in an ambulance going to the hospital or even worse the morgue.
Thanks for sharing this video of your double landing, and filling in some of the gaps, and thanks for watching my video of your plane trying to land at Birmingham.
The shot inside the cabin 13:05 tells a pretty good story of actually how challenging the approach was. Excellent judgement call on the captain to go alternate.
Great video. Reminds me of the old days when we would fly through bumpy weather in PNG on DC3s in the 1950s. Now that was bumpy, good fun though. ... at times. Thanks for sharing this video, I really enjoyed it.

Obviously everyone has different tolerance levels, I’m simply curious if the sensation is akin to being seasick, or more along the lines of carsick........ I don’t get seasick, but it doesn’t take much to make me carsick. 🤮
I'll give that a miss. Was bad enough taking off in Storm Aileen September 2017 on a Jet 2 A330. Battered by wind and rain, turbulence all the way down to France then smooth journey to Greece where it was 36 Celsius.
I have had a WAY worse landing abortion in Milan, we were about to land and there was a wind shear pushing the plane from above and a bird strike at the same time. Luckily the bird did not fly into the engines! But it was the most abrupt aborted landing it felt like a crazy scary roller coaster!
On my fight from AMS to Gatwick a little kid got sick to..mama holding the bag looked so depressed, I gave the little kid some of my paper and pencils for art.. the kid felt better and was drawing the whole flight..and gave me his little drawing when we got out...so cute... sometimes you just need to help out.. it also makes your own flight better
I had an aborted landing at Birmingham on a Ryanair 737 last Saturday during Storm Callum. We were about 500 ft from the ground and wind shear got us. I will never forget the feeling of the pilot pointing the nose of the plane up in the air and going full power back up again. I have to admit that I ended up being the vomiter, nothing worse when you can’t go anywhere or do anything about it The plane was all over the place with the wind. Great skills by pilots though. Great video, it’s very similar to my experience!
Great shot of the 787's wing functions. Incredibly slender wing for such a big plane. Slender and thin, up to and including all the control surfaces. Very different from the bulky wings and control surfaces of the past.
I was thinking the very same thing. I couldn't take my eyes off them, thank goodness for auto pilot though at some point you know the pilot had to take control.
@AMateen Aviation IKR? Awful sounds 🤮. Good reason to have your own noise canceling ear buds or headphones! Turn on the NC feature then TURN UP THE MUSIC so you don’t hear “it.”
Amazing to look at the first three minutes or so, where all is serene and sunny, and think to myself those of us at ground level were getting blown to buggery below those clouds at that moment. You soon joined us though!
Lol, believe me or not but I was standing down there at Stansted with my work colleagues watching planes landing and saw your plane landing! xD We work in the office very close from the runway so every lunch time we walk there (as there's nowhere else to go :P). That day it was crazy, from the "outside" view your plane was REALLY shaky. Before that there was Ryanair flight and a small commercial plane aborting their landings (the small plane was literally blown off the runway about 3-5 secs before touchdown!). That storm Doris was srsly bad..... Glad you all landed safely though :)
That's not necessarily the case. Two layers of air moving in different directions but not mixing together is what causes turbulence. It also happens to trap clouds sometimes but there's plenty times when clouds are smooth as can be and likewise there's plenty times when you encounter turbulence in perfectly clear skies
It was scary. camera didn't pick sound from inside but there were some cries and screams.. A young lady sitting next to me got so sick that they had to get wheelchair for her to disembark.
I flew back from Malta a couple of years ago (1st time flying) and there were weather warnings for wind and rain at East Midlands Airport. My word there was some serious windbarffing there! We were feet from the runway when the pilot aborted due to severe turbulance. So we came round for a 2nd attempt the same happened, more windbarffing so the pilot made the decision to divert to Manchester for refuelling. Heavy landing but we were on the ground. However we had to fly back to EMA, we finally made it after a 3rd round of more barffing lol. BIG credit to the pilots they got us back in one piece. Incredibly enough it didn't put me off flying. We flew to the U.S. the year after.
Omigosh I'd have been so scared I'd have probably fainted!! Which actually would have been just FINE by me!!! lol I feel for everyone on that plane!! Glad you finally made it back safely on the ground. I'd have just gotten a hotel and stayed there til the wind stopped!!!! lol That's just too frightening for me.... Thanks for the upload. Take good care. :D
There are videos of many aborted landings at Birmingham and other UK airports during Storm Doris. More than a few planes weren't able to land first time.
Those ailerons were working very hard to keep the plane level. Was it a 70 kn cross-wind? That's fierce. Pilots were working hard during these sequences. Even at Stansted it was quite an unstable approach and landing. Seems to be getting a lot windier everywhere lately.
Holy wow :/ . I think this is actually the first video of hearing people reacting to such nasty turbulance by vomiting. Aww, I feel so bad. Sorry to all those who experience this. :( . Awesome work by the pilots in controlling all they could during these times.
OMG my heart was in my mouth the whole vlog, experienced not a storm but some rough air on way down to Dom Rep last Feb B4 covid hit, that was bad enough, seems the jet stream was a tad angry so much so the plane climbed another 1000 ft, that was scary enough but this WOW credit to the pilots and great the passengers said thanks, great vlog.

this was really a wild flight and landing, so this video deserves to be called ... with turbulences. So often videos have this in the title but then there are not many turbulences. But this here was nice.
That was a scarily close call. The passengers don't know how lucky they are. A few more seconds and they would've landed in Birmingham and who wants that?!😉

Yes. It’s just a bird can get poked with any of its sharp object

Look at the shape of that wing, cool wing shape

Its really hot wings....
Sure sounds like a real turbulence I can only imagine how terrifying the flight was.
Keeping a bit of the window frame in gave a great insight as to how turbulent the ride was.
