    With all the deaths in these Treehouse of Horror specials, I just think it's funny how the most tame episode with no deaths at all, the first one, is opened with a genuine plea from Marge to not be offended and to send your children to bed early, with no irony or strings attached. She gets more self-aware next year and realizes that people are probably going to watch anyway, and eventually they drop the warnings entirely. It just feels weirdly funny in retrospect.

    If each of Bob's killings of a revived Bart count, should Homer just be off the charts thanks to the clone deaths?

    • @Yoseqlo1
      @Yoseqlo1 6 лет назад +91

      Was thinking the same. Though, the clones weren't exactly like Homer, some looked odd (like parodies of the character), others dumber than the original, even one that was more intelligent than the actual Homer, and moreover, they didn't have a belly button! So, there is an argument to be made if they shouldn't count as Homer seeing the only verifible quality they have in common is appearance.

    • @TheRealJims
      @TheRealJims  6 лет назад +428

      Good point... This was one we debated a lot too. I look at Bart as being one individual person, one person who came into the episode, died 8 times, and exited the episode as the same person. Whereas the Homer that enters the clone episode dies during the segment, and also a bunch of others versions of him. I viewed it more as Homer (the character) dying + a bunch of belly-buttonless clones. I had a little trouble with the legal distinction of a clone as a distinct separate individual.
      Besides, including all his clones makes a countdown no fun, anyway. ;)

      @@freakfoxvevo7915same. Imo Marge a.k.a "Lenore" is the first ever Treehouse of Horror death, even if it technically happens off-screen and doesn't really follow the same pattern as the other deaths that ToH is famous for. Regardless, it's still the very first death to have happened within a ToH. I guess if you don't want to count it, do to it being off-screen and to complete the reference rather than for shock or comedy like the other deaths we later see, then I guess you could count Lenny as the very first (on-screen) death in ToH. To me tho, it'll always be Lenore. Since regardless of it being done for the sake of the Edgar Allan Poe reference and happening off-screen and whatever else some may say to discredit it's status as First. Regardless of what anyone has to say it's still the very first death mentioned within a ToH, so that makes it the first, dammit! May naysayers be damned!! 😂😂😂

    I think the show was initially very reluctant to show anything negative happening to Maggie. I was just watching an early THOH and there's a couch gag in which the Simpsons are all shown hanging from nooses above the couch. But they make sure to have Maggie still sucking per pacifier, as if to say, "Relax, folks. She's okay." Nowadays, I think they wouldn't bother.

Same with the first child to be openly killed on tv, they always got killed offscreen or let it open to interpretation if they dared to do it at all.
