There's a simpler way to explain why Burns accuses Maggy: He really thought she shot him. He was so focused in the baby's candy, struggling her for it, that never saw Homer (or Marge or Bart) approaching from behind.
During the struggle his pistol fell, but outside the car instead of inside. The alternative attacker could get it and shot Burns while the old man was still fighting Maggy, who is the last thing he sees before collapsing, so the half-conscious victim assummed she do it somehow.
The attacker panicked, throwing the gun in the open car before fleeing. Luckly for him/her, his identity wasn't revealed.
The problem with the Simpson's DNA is easy to solve too: The eyelash on Burn's suit was Homer's, stuck on the clothes after he assaulted him in burn's Office a day or two ago. Or maybe it came from different interaction.

    • @mini2239

The eyelash could have come from any simpson during any close quarters interaction.
Most likely Homer because he's the only person who dares get up in Burn's personal space.
But it's weak evidence of any shooting.
I go home covered in hair, spit, boogers, and God knows what else from the toddlers I look after...Their DNA on my shirt would not be amble evidence to convict their parents of any foul play if my body turned up dead. The DNA evidence, even from Maggie, would be WEAK sauce.
I blame this on the writers being dumb though.

    • @MrPikaGammer
      @MrPikaGammer 2 года назад +1

Or he could have been knocked unconscious either by his head hitting the ground or Homer punching him before he took the gun. Homer is a massive man at around 6'3" and 250+ pounds or so the man can pack a punch and has been shown to be far from a slouch in hand to hand combat before. I have no doubt that he'd be able to knock out Mr. Burns which in turn would likely cause a small lapse of memory, you tend to not remember between the full 2 hours to a few minutes minutes before you got knocked out depending on how bad it is.

I think the flashback to the gun under the seat actually is necessary. Krusty wears gloves, as does Homer in his Krusty costume. Therefore we would need an explanation for why the gun has Homer’s fingerprints.
It’s always a possibility he forgot the gloves, but their explanation works.

Since you encouraged us to share more crazy fan theories, here's mine: Mr. Burns was actually shot by... Chief Wiggum! (I know I'm not the first person who has thought of this, but I have more.)
The simplest explanation to why Burns would accuse Maggie instead of naming the real shooter is that the shooter had already visited Burns in the hospital and negotiated a secret deal with him. So the shooter is either someone who was seen visiting Burns' hospital room alone after Burns recovered (Dr Nick, Homer) or someone who could have an unrestricted access there (members of the police force or the hospital staff). From these people, Chief Wiggum is the only one who could offer something so valuable to Burns that Burns would have a reason to accept the deal and let the person who shot him walk free. Burns commits a lot of crimes himself (and would probably commit more if there wasn't a risk of getting caught), so having the police chief permanently in his pocket would be extremely beneficial for him.
The obvious advantage of the Wiggum theory is that we can ignore all the forensic evidence such as the Simpson DNA because Wiggum could have simply planted them during his "investigation" to protect himself. Also, a lot of Wiggum's actions in the story get new levels of hidden brilliance. Here's how I think it went:
    Part 1
After the town hall meeting Wiggum realises that Burns doesn't have a license for his new gun (as a slow person Wiggum gets this when Burns has already left the building). Wiggum goes after Burns to confiscate the gun. He enjoys the opportunity to use his authority to humiliate the most hated person in town, explaining Burns' "What are you so happy about?" line. Wiggum is so clumsy in handling guns that he accidentally shoots Burns while trying to grab the gun from him. Although it was just an accident, Wiggum still needs to cover it up to make sure his incompetency won't cost him his job. To get rid of the gun quickly he tosses it to the nearest parked car through the open window and notices Maggie with a lollipop. Perhaps Maggie drops her lollipop while trying to pick up the gun so they both end up under the seat.
After Burns has collapsed on the sundial, Wiggum does the "It's a mask!" thing to make sure Burns is unconscious. The letters W and S could stand for "Wiggum [is] Shooter".
    Part 2
Wiggum gradually improvises a plan while pretending to investigate the shooting. He first tries to frame Smithers as the shooter, but Smithers turns out to have an alibi. Same thing happens with all the suspects that Lisa suggests. Wiggum realises that the wisest thing is to frame someone who can't possibly have an alibi, the only other person who actually was there - Maggie. Better yet, as a baby she can't tell her own version of what happened (or remember it afterwards when she grows up), and she can't be charged so there won't be any trial either. When supposedly interrogating Maggie and Santa's Little Helper as witnesses, Wiggum plucks one of Maggie's eyelashes to plant it later as evidence. The Twin Peaks dream gives him an idea where to plant it, so he pretends to find it on Burns' suit. However the DNA result only narrows the suspects down to the Simpson family.
Then Mr. Burns wakes up and says "Homer Simpson". Because of the Simpson DNA it would now look really weird if Wiggum didn't investigate Homer, so he has to. He also has to arrest Homer after his fingerprints are found from the gun (we may assume they got there in the way Lisa describes). Wiggum knows that Burns could get his memory back any moment and tell the truth, so it's more urgent for Wiggum to get to the hospital to have a private conversation with Burns than to interrogate Homer. Wiggum purposely causes an accident at the Krusty Burger drive-through so that Homer gets a chance to escape while Wiggum hurts his arm (or pretends to hurt it) and is taken to the hospital as a patient. While the whole police force (and the town in general) is busy chasing Homer, Wiggum sneaks to Burns' room. They make a deal that Burns will identify Maggie as the shooter in exchange for Wiggum's services. The fight over the lollipop could be either Wiggum's or Burns' idea (or it really happened but was irrelevant).
Wiggum can't be sure whether Burns will keep his promise, so when Homer attacks Burns, Wiggum intentionally lets Homer to grab his gun in the hope that Homer would shoot Burns dead. It doesn't happen, but Burns keeps his end of the deal anyway and tells the Maggie story. After this Burns can be a lot more shameless in his crimes because he knows that the Springfield police won't ever act against him. This explains why Burns tries to assassinate Abe Simpson in broad daylight in the later Flying Hellfish episode without having any consequences.
(Sorry for the long post. I put way too much thought into this.)

    • @tarvinneekomainitakaan
      @tarvinneekomainitakaan 2 года назад +11

@@TheRealJims Thanks again! This would obviously be really frustrating as the official solution because Wiggum contributes so little to the first part but it makes a pretty fun fan theory because of his heavy involvement in the second part. So many things can get completely different meaning if the main investigator is dishonest.
I also noticed that when Smithers announces the reward in front of tv cameras Wiggum has his arm in a sling and bandages on his head, but when the crowd slightly later rushes to the hospital his bandages are all gone and he acts as if he wasn't really injured. Continuity error or a hidden clue?

*Gasps* The condom dispenser! It's so perfect! It distracts the audience's attention in the Who REALLY Shot Mr. Burns Finale by being a sight gag, and the deed mocks Mr. Burns because he is "as impotent as a Nevada boxing commission." Now what kind of condoms would pack enough of a wollop to force Maggie's hands?...

There is something crucial that supports Homer Theory... and that is in my opinion something most other explanations fails to cover, except for the Maggie explanations. That is the fact that Homer tries to kill Burns again.
I mean.... Burns survived the shooting. But he was still an asshole, the town was still pissed, Santa's little helper was still injured, the school was still indebted.... every character who wanted him dead still had their motivations for wanting him dead, and now he was more vulnerable than ever. But nobody went to th hospital to finish the job. Is excusable for Maggie, being just a baby, and despite some ambiguous expressions in the end, it was still kind of an accident. But if it was Abe, then why not finish the job? If it was Lisa, why not finish the job? If it was Bart, why not finish the job?
Well, Homer went there to finish the job. He was going to kill Mr. Burns, and for the exact same reason as before, he was still angry about the name thing, his rage didn't go away. That's what I expect for the shooter, to not loose their motivation overnight when Burns was still alive and the problem was still going.

Mr. TheRealJims, this series has been a fantastic exploration of possibilities within the realm of an already concrete canon. You have changed my mind from 'Maggie did it' to 'Maggie did it...or did she?' That is a hard task. This episode had a profound impact on me as a child. So profound, that in fact, I am deathly afraid of sundials. But if you need material for a new Simpsons mystery, I humbly present to you this lore breaking discovery.
In episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes the same rib in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is a magic xylophone, or something? Ha ha, boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

Very very very interesting. I have no noticed the krusty character design differences at the end. I am definitely going to re-watch it. I had different explanation for homer shooting burns a few years ago.
    - Burns recognizes homer but cannot remember his name,
    - "oh its you" is him referring to Homer but cannot remember his name
    - When he wakes up from the coma, all he can remember is the bizzare rantings of the unidentified assailant who attacked him in his office
    - He pins it on maggie as revenge bobo
    - or perhaps as in hope that police lock up maggie and its like some bizzare twist on the "do it for her"
I think the only weakness of your narrative is Burns wanting blackmail krusty. Within the same season burns has already bribed krusty in a way that MOVED HIM TO A BIG HOUSE!
As ever keep up the amazing work!

To me, a key question we need to ask is "What does Mr. Burns get out of accusing Maggie if he doesn't think that she shot him?" I don't think he has anything to gain, but it does hurt some people: Homer and Marge. Burns has had a mixed history with Marge, both positive and negative, but his interactions with Homer have been almost exclusively negative. In Burns "Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk", Burns declares a slow vengeance on Homer, and in "And Maggie Makes Three", it is shown that Homer keeps all of the photos of Maggie in his office at work, to motivate him to keep working there. Both Burns and Smithers has been in and out of that office countless times in the series, so they would know both who Maggie is and how Homer feels about her. I believe that Burns is deliberately harnessing Homer by pretending to forget his name as a small form of petty revenge, choose to accuse Maggie to complete his revenge on Homer. What would be worse for Homer than to continually suffer Burns' petty harassment at the power plant while the person he is doing it for is in jail because of something Homer did? Even if Homer decides to confess, he still has to goto jail, and Burns can claim he was confused due the coma, so Burns loses nothing either way. A prefect scheme for a supervillain.

That's really interesting how they drew krusty like homer at that part. Very bizarre, how they seem to be consistent with separating them most of the time. One problem however, is that Ned Flanders is standing next to homer at the time. Remember, ned is the only person in town who DID easily recognise homer in the krusty makeup, and so likely wouldve seen through the disguise in this episode too, especially since he's standing so close.

Personally, I still think it could be anyone. Hear me out. In the official version, the simpson dna got there from Mr. Burns fighting with Maggie for the Candy. That remains the same in every version suggested. With that in mind, Burns could have been shot by anyone and still gotten the Maggie dna on his coat. The reason why he would cover varies, but there is also the possibility that Maggie was the last person he saw after getting shot, making so in his old age and injured state, he assumed that she was the one at fault.

Larry Burns, his long lost son, because there's this obscure bit of Simpsons ancillary canon that listed Burns as a distant relative of the Simpsons so it's possible Larry's DNA could've come up as Simpsons when sequenced, and he shot him for completely unrelated inheritance and Burns didn't out him cause he's his son

Still, though, I can't help but feel as if the real killer might have just slipped through our grasps yet again. Maybe the real culprit is the system Mr Burns grew up in, the economic and cultural landscape that made him into the man he was at the moment of his shooting. Maybe if Mr Burns hadn't been so incentivised to destroy Springfield in the pursuit of the almighty dollar and his own jollies, he wouldn't have been shot.
Perhaps, just perhaps, we all, as a society, shot Mr Burns.

You missed a family member: Mr. Burns was shot by Santa’s Little Helper:
    The Motif:
Mr. Burns and Santa’s Little Helper have had the following encounters before the shooting. Each of these would single-handily give SLH a motif. Combined, these certainly give the dog motif:
As mentioned in Who Shot Mr. Burns Part I, it was shown Mr. Burns was responsible for Santa’s Little Helper’s injuries. In the episode, Santa’s Little Helper growls at Mr. Burns after Mr. Burns taunts him, indicating that he has made the connection. It’s also possible that since he’s an animal, he doesn’t fully understand why Burns did the whole sun-blocking thing, which would likely mess him up more than the others.
Mr. Burns stole Santa’s Little Helper’s puppies earlier that season. Having your child stolen from you is certainly something that would count as motif for a murder attempt. Furthermore, Mr. Burns originally wanted to turn these pups into a suit…Burns’ suit. This is the hint the Lisa dream was referring to.
Mr. Burns previous ‘employed’ Santa’s Little Helper in Dog of Death as a guard dog, treating him even worse than he treats his other employees. This level of abuse already led to Santa’s Little Helper attacking Mr. Burns in that same episode. Furthermore, Who Shot Mr. Burns Part I notes how SLH was Burn’s former guard dog in the candy scene. Also, in Dog of Death, Mr. Burns willing turns down the opportunity to loan Homer the money for the operation SLH needs. IN the same scene, he even called dogs ‘idiots’, which he probably also repeated during SLH’s training.
Also, in Bart’s Dog Gets an F, it was shown that SLH is able to understand human speech. Its possible he knows and understands what Mr. Burns does otherwise and everything he did, both in Who Shot Mr. Burns Part I, these earlier examples, and to the Simpson family throughout the series (running over Bart, his repeated abuse of Homer at the Power Plant, his run-ins with Marge, etc.)
    The Opportunity:
It is confirmed that SLH was in the area. A fake ending even shows SLH shooting Mr. Burns from the back seat. Its possible that he might have bitten the gun to grab it, and shoot Mr. Burns. The fake ending shows footage of how the potential shot would have happened.
    The Blame:
Why would Burns blame Maggie? Simple: while the Maggie solution is certainly unusual, blaming a dog is even more ridiculous. Getting people to believe that a dog show him would be absolutely ridiculous, even by Simpsons logic. Maggie, while strange, does fit into this wacky universe. The Maggie solution was simply more believable.

Or Mr. Burns was taking candy from Maggie, Homer saw it, got angry, hit Mr. Burns from the back, Burns tried pulling a gun which then ended up being used against him, burns gets shot,
The last thing he remembers is him trying to take Maggie's candy, then he gets dazed from a hit to the back, he very well might not have seen Homer-Crusty rushing him and thought that Maggie was the one who got him

My question is why must Mr. Burns be right? He had just gone through a traumatic injury. A man of his age. Then he spent an unknown amount of time in a coma following which he was in a state of severe shock. So my question is why are we taking his gossip what is right. The way he remembered it it’s not the way it necessarily was. Mr. Burns could legitimately think it was Maggie but he also could just be wrong.

My hypothesis is that Burns' gun went off when it fell into the car. It's an older revolver and wouldn't have a transfer bar to keep the hammer and firing pin apart. Burns accuses Maggie because she was the last person he saw before getting shot.

I love all your videos man!!
Can you do a "simpsons did it" episode? Basically just a list of all the shows that had a episode that copies a simpsons episode?
