    In Part 3, VICE News finds out how the Polisario tackle the threats of terrorism and drug smuggling in their increasingly volatile part of the Sahara. We look at how the movement has improved security to avoid another event like the 2011 kidnapping of three foreign aid workers from a Polisario complex. Then we speak to the ministers of defense and security, and follow a Polisario anti-terrorism unit on one of their night patrols, going dangerously close to the smuggling routes of the Sahara.

    Population:
    Morocco: ~ 33.000.000
    Western Sahara: ~ 500.000
    Polisario: ~100.000
    Even if 100 % of Polisario where trained soldiers, they couldn't defeat Morocco. In fact they have a maximum of 7.000 soldiers and what i've seen, they aren't well trained.

      @@tvhdtm3429 Vietnam defeated USA because the North Vietnamese and Vietcong outnumbered the Americans and South Vietnamese. Also, Vietnam is very mountainous and filled with dense tropical jungles, so it's incredibly easy to hide. In the desert, you can get spotted from miles away and there's nowhere to hide.

    In reality the sahara is Moroccan where Moroccan flags fly 🇲🇦. These terrorists are in Tindouf, Algeria and realize they will never take the land. The sahara issue unites 40 million Moroccans, not a single Moroccan says otherwise. Since this documentary came out many countries (including the US and Spain) have officially recognized the Moroccan sahara opening consults there. They’ve also began construction on stadiums in the city of Dakhla. Morocco actually built the Sahara, go look at Layounne and Dakhla. While the polisaro terrorists make their kidnapped people live in tents since 1975 as they steal gold, kidnap, ra*pe, and sell UN aid to buy mansions and luxury SUVs in Spain. This topic is extremely complex and takes alot of research of Morocco and Algeria relations

      Fangedzebra, Western Sahara was an Spanish colony for over 80 years, therefore some people speak fluently Spanish with Spain's accent. All Saharawis speak and Arab dialect call Hassaniya, also spoken in Mauritania and Northern Mali and Niger, Southern Moroccan provinces of Tan Tan and Tarfaya and Algerian province of Tindouf. They are an African/Arab and Spanish culture. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sahrawi_people

      Jose Gongora It's actually quite interesting, that his accent doesn't resemble the accents I've heard along the Mediterranean, southern coast lines in Spain.
      I would've guessed their accents would've been influenced by them, but maybe the proximity isn't the only factor.

    What does Morocco want from this desolate, inhospitable, uninhabitable wasteland?

    • @TJ-hs1qm
      @TJ-hs1qm 9 лет назад +1

      +Eternal Apostate It's all history, during the cold war, Algeria, then backed by the udssr, wanted to extent its territories to the Atlantic shore line, mainly for shipping off gas and oil and for geostrategic reasons. The USA, who were supporting the Moroccan monarchy, wouldn't allow this at any cost. So the situation today is the result of that proxy war. The other reason of course is Bou Craa. It has the world largest phosphate mines. The land may seem uninhabitable from far but it's actually worth billions. After the Spaniards left the Sahara there were only 2 outcomes, either the US (Morocco) got hold of the Western Sahara or Russia (Algeria) did. There has never been a realistic option for an independent Sahrawi state. They are just being played. And even here in this video Vice itselve plays its part in an ongoing media battle between Algeria and Morocco.
      Dat ass though! :)
