I just got a black stone griddle and am completely new at grilling in general. I have found your videos extremely helpful and fun to watch! Thanks for the awesome content!
My wife kicked my griddle accessories out of the kitchen when I exceeded one cabinet so I too bought a Rubbermaid storage ‘shed’ for them. Now my neighbors know of my obsession.
Good stuff, Johnny! One thing I'm surprised you didn't put on the list was a spare propane tank. Nothing sucks more than being halfway through a cook and running out.
Thanks, and yes someone else mentioned that and I can't believe I forgot. A spare tank is an absolute life savor when you got a bunch of food on and your tank does. Thanks so much for watching.
Yeah, or having a 1 lb as a backup. That way, you get a full charge off the 20 lb empty tank or trade swapping. Some people don't have room for 2 20 lb tanks going, say camping. 1 lb a little pricey, but helps with the 1/3 filled 20 lb tank, will it be enough.

A nice trick to stop that paper towel from unrolling, take a magnetic hook put it on the side of the shelf between the hooks for the paper towel rack. Then get a 18" long piece of light duty chain, like the kind use for a swing set, and put it on the hook and let it lay over the roll of paper towel. Great video buddy, thanks for the information, just ordered a 36” Blackstone so you’ve helped me out for sure, I might even post a bit myself once I get going. Cheers 👍🏻🔥
Great stuff, good video! I had to watch the whole thing when I didn't see the thermometer in the must haves. Knew you would add it, definitely a must have!
Johnny I have the plastic/silicone version of most accessories for my indoor griddle. I have small spatulas with holes and I need to find full size because they are good for scooping food and leaving oil behind. You are right about gloves, don't need them for the griddle, but keep near the air fryer oven, that thing gets way hot!
Ya Guy I still need to get me one of those air fryers I know you said you love yours. I just think the wife might kill me if I come home with another kitchen appliance lol.
@@JohnnyBrunet When I replace the counter top air fryer oven its going to be comedy cause I will also have to move the instant pot to a different place. The new oven will need more space. 🤣
I've had a griddle for the past three years and your videos are some of the best I've come across. I never knew about the pumice stone, I'll be picking up one of those as it looks like it would have solved an issue that I had on my last griddle. I just picked up a Blackstone Pro Series and will have to stock it up with some of the items on your list.
I have a 30 " Cuisinart that I am still learning to use on different recipes . It is a 2 burner . Just have to be careful not to push food into the drip edge . I like that it has a lid .
Great vid - I went griddle-less this weekend at a new suburban camp spot for my squaredrop. Over in RI there was the remnant of Fiona with pouring rain and blasting wind. Ended up hitting my favorite trolly diner and was entertained by their griddle mastery while sitting at the counter, out of the weather.
Oh man I love trolly diners they are my absolute favorite. If my wife and I are on vacation and we see one it's a must stop for me. Some of the guys that work at those places are so good. They can run those flat tops all day.
If you have a harbor freight near you they sell magnetic 2 piece paper towel holder. Magnets are super strong. I leave paper towels(blue ones) on it all year long they have never blown away or “went bad” even in winter. Just a heads up
@@JohnnyBrunet I have four burner. Left burner off , middle left low, middle right a little above low, right burner low. Came out perfect with peppers onions and mushrooms pushed to the left while cooking the steaks
@@JohnnyBrunet I also took your advice to clean as I cook, that's good. Now my griddle is flaking cos I was not using it. Now have to clean it with the block.
Long time, no see, Johnny! Happy to see your griddle channel cookin' up, man! Once my house is completed, I just might get me one of these. See ya around!
Hey Buddy!!! Long time no see. I didn't know you were building a house that's awesome! For sure once you get it done you should get a griddle. See you around, hopefully at the super bowl party.
Another great video, Johnny. Thank you. I'm getting closer to buying my first griddle (yeah, I'm the "waiting for my new gate" guy) but I do have a topic of interest regarding griddles. Leveling. Do you have any input for griddle owners on what to do regarding leveling their griddles? Grills, of course, don't really matter because grease, etc., falls below the grates. But the flat surface of the griddle is a bit more challenging.
Most griddles come with legs that you can adjust to make them level. I try to have to the grease run towards the trap if possible. Mine are never level because I move them around depending on where the son is for shooting. So if yours isn't perfectly level it's not a big deal.
Smoker and grill when doing large meat is what the gloves are for. Pork shoulder, pork But, short ribs, ribs, and Brisket. Done lots of smoking on treager and grill on webber. New to griddle cooking.
Ya I totally agree David the gloves are much more usuful for those. I just got a Big Green Egg for christmas so I'm excited to learn more about smoking. Congrats on the new griddle and thanks for watching.
I've had really good luck with crisco. I use it for all my cast iron and when I got my griddle I tried canola but it's winter and couldn't get it hot enough. But when I switched to Crisco, and used the hood to reap heat, it turned out great!!!
@@JohnnyBrunet before inflation it was cheaper but on sale quite a bit and right now at Kroger I think for a tub. Definitely cheaper than the black stone stuff. And I've had zero issues for a decade in cast iron. I don't know if other stuff is better but should have just gone with my gut. Got a black griddle in 3 or 4 layers. Using lid helped to get it hotter and opened every few minutes to allow it to smoke off better
Johnny - what up!? Good info as always. I took the Camp Chef 2 burner to deer camp this weekend and wow'ed to guys with some of your breakfast techniques - including the smashed tater tots. Those were a BIG HIT. I christened them "smash-browns" TM. Thanks! Keep on griddlin!
Hey Thatcher that's awesome I'm glad everyone like the breakfast you made. . "Smash-Browns"!! That's an amazing name lol. I'm totally using that. Thanks for sharing.
the egg rings are legit!! i got a blackstone set from bjs wholesale and theyre silicone, i love them! even if i dont plan to use them when making breakfast on the griddle i stall take them out just in case
Excellent points all the way around Johnny. I am an accessory freak and Blackstone as well so you can imagine I have just about every accessory they have. It’s my thing I guess lol. Take care brother.
Totally agree with the need to know your temps…a must have. Ohio State is looking really good! Think your boy will be going for the heisman? I’m a Alabama fan…maybe next year. 😂
Ya I'm pretty excited about the Buckeyes but still worried about Michigan. I don't know if Stroud will get the Heisman but he's got a great shot at it. Ya this may not be the year for you guys but you've definitely had your fair share of good years lol. Should be a fun playoff but I can't wait until they expand to 8 teams. Thanks for watching Chris.
I agree that there are only several must have accessories, the rest are a bonus. Now, as far as squeeze bottles are concerned, I like to use old ketchup bottles. I think they work best. Thanks for the video and GRIDDLE ON DUDE. So when are you going to do a colab.
Always been jealous of those stainless griddles at the greasy spoons that stay so clean and non stick. The hot dog place starts breakfast the night before - piles of bacon, potatoes and sausage.
I am getting a LeGriddle next month. It is taking a while to get to me but I can wait. Somewhat. :)) Anyway, the lid is an accessory so I get what you are saying about the lids. They should just come with it. Jeez. Especially at that price point.
Congratulations on the new griddle. I've cooked on the Le Griddle a lot, they are really nice. But yes at that price it's kind of crazy that it doesn't come with a lid. Thanks for watching.
Cooking dinner now at 5:30 pm is cooking in the dark! But with my hiking headlamp on at least I see what I’m looking at. But the neighbors in the RV park probably wonder if I’m a coal minor, a burglar or a lightening bug on steroids! So temps on the griddle are important and so is the temps of the meat. I preset my meat thermometer and wait for the sound! Thanks for the video!
Hey Johnny, on a completely unrelated note, what adjustments do you make when you're cooking outside in the cold? Reason being I was going to do some fried rice the other night when it was about 35° outside and after about 15 minutes of the camp chef being on medium/low the griddle top was about 57° so I aborted mission and cooked it inside. I didn't feel like experimenting and wasting propane if it was going to take much longer to heat up. Love the videos. Thank you and keep em coming!
Hey Brandon sorry for the delay. So I have cooked in 35 degree weather I usually don't have any problems I just try to heat it up on low to avoid warping, but I also heat up my griddle on low just to be safe. However when I cooked in the cold I have never done fried rice. Fried rice will really drop the temp of your griddle especially whe it is cold out. My reccomendatin next time would be to slowly heat your griddle up to a little above normal so it can handle the temp drop once the food goes on. I usually cook fried rice around 400 maybe you should try starting at 425 and then see what happens once you put all the rice and ingrediants on. Hopefully that helps thanks so much for watching.
To keep paper towels from un rolling buy a small fishing weight put on a piece of string , if you can tie it off above the roll of paper towels let it drape down over them it keeps them from un rolling. Just a thought it works.
About to make a purchase on my first griddle.. I'm a vegetarian but i cook the meat for my family (nobody will ever understand) but I'm scared to death. I'll be watching ALOT of your videos this spring/summer 😂
You had me (stopped reading) at “vegetarian”… thank you for the early warning. Hehehe. Jk, I know you’ll come around. I believe in you!! YOU CAN DO IT!
@@ryankim3612 I appreciate you bro lol. I already feel like a vet. I cook on it multiple times a week and all weekends. breakfast, lunch, dinner lol. it's just much easier cooking outside and keeping the kitchen clean.
Hey johnny, Can ya help me? I cook for my church and we desperately need to upgrade/replace existing bbq equipment. (LPG only, no charcoal/wood, or IPA) I'm pushing for a covered outdoor kitchen area filled with professional (as best we can do, we're poor Baptist's) type equipment. First things first, we needs a huge high equally flattop and equally efficient gas grill, hooded and dual power burners. We served 149 at the recent sports banquet, Hawaiian BBQ theme...only by the Grace of GOD did we pull it off. Great story! Any ideas/suggestions to buy or maybe more importantly, equipment to avoid? Not looking to back you into corner, your top 3 maybe. I like... Griddles: 1. Patriot Platinum - 60" 2. Traeger Flatrock - 48" 3. Blackstone - 48" Gas Grills: 1. Patriot Platinum - 64" 2. American Renaissance 3. ? Power Burners: 1. American Renaissance - 60k BTU 2. ? 3. ? Any ideas/suggestions besides resigning immediately, will be accepted with open arms? Thank you in advance for your time johnny, i really do appreciate it. GOD Bless! ✌
Hey Guy! Thanks for watching my video man. That's cool that you help out so much at your church and that you guys are doing these events. I guess my main question is, what is the amount of people you'll have for a normal event? Is that 125 number a regular thing or was that a one off and normally it's just like 50 people? I've heard of patriot and seen a lot of people with food trucks use them. I've never heard anything really negative about them but I've also never personally used it. I'm pretty sure they are close to commercial grade equipment. The one thing I would double check on is if they have propane options. You definitely don't want to buy a natural gas grill and hook up propane bc it will basically turn into a flame thrower. As for the Blackstone and the trasher both are very nice. I'd lean towards Blackstone because you can get it for a better price. I really like my Camp Chef griddle as well and I know they make a 6 but er which is nice. I'd check that out too if you're cooking for a bunch of people. I don't know where you guys are located at but if you're near a restaurant equipment store they sometimes will have used items at very good prices. That's always worth looking into. As for power burners I'm not familiar at all with those so unfortunately I don't have many suggestions. I hope that was helpful, if you ever have more questions feel free to email me at griddlewithjohnny@gmail.com
Where did you get the little wire rack? I'm in the same city as you (saw the CBJ and OSU apparel in another video) and would love to pick one up for my new griddle. Love your videos! Very informative with a touch of humor. :)
Hey neighbor! So sorry I didn't get a chance to respond earlier. Ya I have the link to Amazon in my description but I did actually get mine from restaurant equippers. It's on west broad by franklinton. Def check it out sometime, there's all sorts of cool kitchen equipment. Thanks so much for watching Jon.
Gonna do Smashburger Tacos tonight for the first time. Also gonna stop at the beverage store and see can I find me some of that Rhinegeist Truth to try out. That certainly appears to be a "must have" for griddling. Just recently relocated to Western Kentucky from Colorado. Trying to broaden my beer horizons from strictly Coors... I will say Kentucky has definitely broadened my Bourbon horizon.
Sounds like you got a good menu planned out there Danny! Ya the Truth beer is out of Cincinnati so it might be in Kentucky. I like it a lot but it is a strong IPA. Nothing wrong with Coors my friend, I've had plenty of those as well.
@@JohnnyBrunet I actually found some today in Princeton. Not much for heavy beer but my son is. If I don't like it, I'll save it for next time he comes out from CO.
I find a ladle or a measuring cup best for pancakes, items I already own. Headlamp is the best thing to use to see in the dark - for absolute any project ever. I also don’t use paper towels. Too expensive, and from indoor cooking on cast iron - I can’t stand all the fibers that get left behind, more with every swipe.
I have a plus one for your list of must haves. A decent fuel gauge for your tank. You probably won't enjoy discovering that your burners are giving a weak flame or a flame that is flickering and ready to die just when you are getting started on prepping one of your culinary masterpieces.
@@OleDuke even with a second tank, you still have the inconvenience of having your grill cool off before you notice the flames declining and before you shut off the burners while you change the tank and get things going again.
@@Grantthetruthteller yep, i can see that. I haven't had to big an issue so far and its happened twice, but i am an anomaly, my 2nd tank sits 4 ft away.. My biggest need for this would be when I am doing frogmore stew. it takes long enough to get things to a boil
Only cover I could find was 140$, not in the budget. I built a wood frame, attached a custom cut diamond plate piece of aluminum and attached to frame and attached handles, under 40$ 💅
Thanks man, glad you like it. Ya I'm just right on the corner of a busy intersection and that's why I do a lot of voiceovers. I appreciate you watching.
sweet, ima get a youtube channel and use that excuse for 3 griddles and 73 accessories! thanks Johnny! ;) I have the monster steak press, got it specifically for large breakfast cooks for the bacon but use it most for my Cuban Sliders
@@JohnnyBrunet give it a try, no big secret, I used KH butter rolls left over smoked port from recent cooks I do on my smoker. Ham, swiss cheese I chop pickles to put them on and use some juice with Mayo and mustard for the mustard sauces to think it out, but not much. While the meats are getting reheated and the ham getting a little color I let the weight heat up. I build it on the griddle and that big weight sits almost perfect on the soft rolls to smash them down without pushing. whatever sauce I dont use on the build I keep for dipping.
Inflation?! Yes it’s bad, but we just bought our second brand new home a couple of months ago. The first one was 2 years ago. What many don’t understand is, that most of the time, the monthly payments on a purchased home are less than renting one!!!
And these are the hooks that just hang off the side. They aren't magnetic. It also comes with the paper towel holder but I don't love that. amzn.to/3noGJwN
Johnny, Love your channel, great advice and tips!! All I want for Christmas is a flat top grill, but what is the best brand in your opinion? Keep up the good work and thanks for making your viewers laugh!!
Hi Martin! Thanks so much I'm glad you like the channel. I hope you get that griddle for Christmas. I like my camp chef and haven't had any problems with it other than warping once but it went right back. I just put frozen meat in a very hot griddle and that caused it to warp. However CC is more expensive than Blackstone and I don't think there's anything wrong with Blackstone. I have a 2 burner Blackstone and it works great. I say get what's in your price range but I do prefer the 4 burner over the 2 burner because it's so much more versatile. Let me know if you have any more questions and thanks for watching.
Squish the paper towel roll so it’s no longer round, make it oval, it will keep it from unrolling as easy so that it doesn’t accidentally unroll. Little tougher to unroll, but does keep it from accidentally unrolling.
Here is my new favorite 2 in 1 thermometer. (affiliate link)

Awesome I'm so glad my videos have been helpful. I think the pumice stone will really get your griddle looking nice. Thanks for watching.
I have a 30 " Cuisinart that I am still learning to use on different recipes . It is a 2 burner . Just have to be careful not to push food into the drip edge . I like that it has a lid .
Ya the lid is definitely a nice feature Mark. I e had other people say they have the Cuisinart as well and they like it. Thanks for sharing.

I've had really good luck with crisco. I use it for all my cast iron and when I got my griddle I tried canola but it's winter and couldn't get it hot enough. But when I switched to Crisco, and used the hood to reap heat, it turned out great!!!
Ya I've heard other people say that they love crisco. I need to give that a try!
Great video, but I must say a beer is ALWAYS a necessary accessory! Here in the UK I prefer English cider (fermented apple juice, very alcoholic!)
Beer is definitely always necessary 😂. That English Cider sounds good I will have to give it a try.
I agree that there are only several must have accessories, the rest are a bonus. Now, as far as squeeze bottles are concerned, I like to use old ketchup bottles. I think they work best. Thanks for the video and GRIDDLE ON DUDE. So when are you going to do a colab.
That's a great idea with the ketchup bottles. Thanks for the tip Bruno!

2 small warming racks makes the space you need "adjustable". Sometimes I use one other times I use both of mine.
Very true. Two small racks is the way to go.
Finishing Potatoes in a little bit of Margarine is a surprising way to make them crispy

@Johnny Brunet thanks for the reply. I'll try and be a bit more patient and give it more time to get a little hotter next time.
With me the beers are the best 😂 but thanks for everything else and keep doing it your doing a great job
Oh I totally agree, beer is essential accessory #1 😁🍻. Thanks for watching James.
To keep paper towels from un rolling buy a small fishing weight put on a piece of string , if you can tie it off above the roll of paper towels let it drape down over them it keeps them from un rolling. Just a thought it works.

Hey johnny,
Can ya help me?

1. Patriot Platinum - 60"
2. Traeger Flatrock - 48"
3. Blackstone - 48"
Gas Grills:
1. Patriot Platinum - 64"
2. American Renaissance
3. ?
Power Burners:
1. American Renaissance - 60k BTU
2. ?

You probably won't enjoy discovering that your burners are giving a weak flame or a flame that is flickering and ready to die just when you are getting started on prepping one of your culinary masterpieces.
agreed, or a 2nd tank.
Totally agree I never think about a fuel gage because I have two tanks. But nothing is worse than running out of propane.
