    Dinesh D'Souza and Christopher Hitchens go at it again at the 2008 Freedom Fest as the "Main Event".
    FreedomFest is an annual festival where "free minds meet" to celebrate "great books, great ideas, and great thinkers" in an open-minded society. It is independent, non-partisan, and not affiliated with any organization or think tank.
    Founded and produced by Mark Skousen, since 2002, FreedomFest invites the "best and the brightest" from around the world to talk, strategize, socialize, and celebrate liberty. FreedomFest is open to all and is purely egalitarian, where speakers, attendees, and exhibitors are treated as equals.
    www.freedomfest...
    Christopher Hitchens (born 1949) is an author, journalist and literary critic. Currently living in Washington, D.C., he has been a columnist at Vanity Fair, The Atlantic, World Affairs, The Nation, Slate, Free Inquiry, and a variety of other media outlets. Hitchens is also a political observer, whose books - the latest being "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything" - have made him a staple of talk shows and lecture circuits.
    In 2009 Hitchens was listed by Forbes magazine as one of the "25 most influential liberals in U.S. media." The same article noted, though, that he would "likely be aghast to find himself on this list" and that he "styles himself a radical", not a liberal.

      I think by all metrics “apelike creature” is a pretty accurate description of a homo sapiens / human. We are by definition a primate.
      I’d suggest giving the Bronze Age fairy tail books a break for a week or two and having a look at some contemporary biology and anthropology reads instead.
      Please remember the device you’re using to watch this video and share your beliefs with us was created by people applying the scientific method, not by a miracle. Since this method has been working so well for all of us modern apes, maybe consider giving its literature a chance.

He married women who had been married to other men already. He married women and when that 2asnt enough married her daughter and / or sister as well. Just an freaking horn dog. Brigham Young was just as bad. It was so out of control and embarrassing, causing people everywhere to hate LDS, that the LDS church actually banned it in 1890.
      Joseph Smith printed up his own money, not illegal at thr time as banks in thr frontier printed uo their own money for use in the wild west. But banks usually had enough gold or silver to cover their currency. Smith didn't. He pulled quite a number of shenanigans that ruled up so badly they broke into jail and shot him. Brigham Young git thr message and took all.his followers to Utah snd founded Salt Lake City.

    The problem isn't answering or rebutting the illogical ramblings of the religious, the real problem is how many of them would lay down their lives and quite possibly your life too (without your consent) just to remain loyal to an idea that was decimated by logic on the same day it was concocted.
    Far too many people will always accept what they are told without question, the greatest enemy of our time by far is "Gullibility".
    Case in point: ISIS (the islamic kind not Osiris' wife).
    An organization where "gullibility" can make someone join them from across the planet because they are convinced through overly dramatic claims that the end of the world is coming and they need to dodge the hell fire by binding together with like minded simpletons and whoever disagrees should die.
    ISIS is the new Scientology wing of Islam, they love brutality almost as much as Scientologists love money.

    Christ, it is affirmed, was born of Mary. If so, what relation did she bear to him?
    1. If he was born of Mary, she was his mother.
    2. She "being with child by the Holy Ghost," and Father, Son and Holy Ghost being one, she bore to him the relation of wife.
    3. God being the Father of all mankind, and God and Christ being one, she was his daughter.

    I had a similar discussion with a Christian awhile ago. He insisted that god knew everything in advance so pre-destiny exists but that we have free will. I pointed out the same thing that the 2 statements were mutually incompatible. If god knows what will happen you are pre-destined to make certain decisions which by definition can't be called free will. Free will means you can make a different decision.
    He couldn't understand this which I guess is predictable given his belief system.

    I don't understand the moral argument for religion, that religion gives us our morals. Does it really? As far as I can tell, in the Bible never says you shouldn't murder or rape or steal BECAUSE it's the wrong thing to do. It says these are forbidden acts because it's not what God wants and if you want a shot at eternal worship, rather than eternal punishment, as hard to tell as the difference is, you'd better follow the rules. It's morality by coercion and therefore not moral at all frankly. It could've been just as likely that the aforementioned acts were encouraged by God.

    • @mikeyseo
      @mikeyseo 10 лет назад

      Your absolutely correct. With one minor exception, which leads to your incorrect conclusion. And your befuddlement. You assume that people know what they are doing wrong. and that God and all people have an understanding as to what consists as true morality.
      Of course God knows, what is moral. But do you?
      How does one know what is moral without God?
      If there is no God, there is no meaning, if there is no meaning, everything is a mere rationalization. You become a divider of your thoughts. You divide out what is pure and white, and single out sections in your mind that have come to be through your experience, and you rationalize it, by coloring in some grey. Therefore, you have fallen away from God.
      That's the whole point of religion. To find God.
      Its hard to accept with the mind. We all know. Christians are brainwashed. EVERYONE has doubts, and everyone knows some of the KJV bible must be miscontstrued because its man made.
      But for those who believe it, just because, trust me, I've seen those, and its hard to say they are not blessed.
      So what of the stories? of wrath and murder and jealous God?
      I can imagine what people were like before the Bible. We all watch TV. We all thank God we weren't born back then. Do you still wonder, why the tone of their scriptures was so different from ours?
      And being able to understand, that people before could not read, were much more simple. And many needed to change their ways because they were ... doing Godless acts, like murder theft adultery etc., worshipping idols, asking for material things from their gods. We all know how much more prevalent these things were in the past. And wouldn't God want to reach out to those people if he did exist? Sure. It looks like that's exactly what he did. Twice.
      Noah's Ark and The Christ.
      But in nature and life, EVERYTHING comes full circle.
      As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be....
      I think the questions really is...How wide can we draw this circle.

    • @Buttnut105
      @Buttnut105 10 лет назад

      Michael Seo God doesn't know what's moral, at least, you cannot claim that he knows. The only reason you would try to do right by people in your life is because you think God wants you to behave that way, not because it's the right thing to do. If you believe whatever God wants is right, then there's nothing moral about you at all. If God revealed himself to you, and told you to kill your children, then you'd have to do it wouldn't you? And you'd be moral as well. This happened in the case of LaShaun Harris, who believed God told her to kill her own children, which she did. You cannot tell me God didn't tell her to do that. And if he did, you can't say it's immoral can you?
      One knows what's moral by thinking, growing, learning, and experiencing. Our morality evolves with us as a species and in society and civilization. The reason people are moral, generally, is because we give ourselves meaning. Our lives don't have meaning. We create meaning for ourselves so that we have something to strive to, some self-conceived purpose in life. To say that meaning and that purpose was always there, is a complete non-sequitur. You cannot prove it anymore than anyone can disprove it.

    • @mikeyseo
      @mikeyseo 10 лет назад

      Again, you are saying God is immoral because people do immoral things. Thats a common atheist thing. They like to call this arguement filling the gaps, but I think of it as you put it.
      "Our morality evolves with us as a species and in society and civilization."
      Don't you see we talk about the same thing? but from a different place?
      We are like children, wanting candy, and blaspheming the parent, when it is not provided on demand. Ungrateful.
      Also, you confuse moral judgement, with moral conscience. People gain moral judgement over time and can change, but we are born with our moral conscience. As soon as your baby is born, they know right from wrong- of course in very general terms in regards to society or life in it...
      And I believe it is that within us that tells us that proof is unnecessary.

    • @Buttnut105
      @Buttnut105 10 лет назад +1

      Michael Seo "Again, you are saying God is immoral because people do immoral things".
      This woman killed her children because God told her to, in her mind. Can you tell me God didn't do this? And if he did, which he very well could have (wouldn't be the first time), how can you possibly say it's immoral? After all, it's what God wants, and isn't whatever God wants, moral, simply because he wants it?
      "Thats a common atheist thing. They like to call this arguement filling the gaps".
      No that wasn't necessarily my argument, but I know what you're referring to. And it happens to be a good one. If God created each and every one of us in his image, and he's got a plan for all of us, why do people commit atrocities? Does God want these to happen? And what about the religious message that people should be thankful and grateful to God for the food they have and the clothes and so on? Are people who are starving and have nothing excused of this?

      Theology is an interesting mix of ancient history and mythology defense. There's so much concern with prioritizing chronological order to give academic credence to thunderstruck prophecy, that what is actually being supported gets glossed over. It's a book, written by groups of men, hundreds of years after 'the fact'. The veracity of the source is essentially an elaborate game of Telephone Operator.
      Whats real is the genesis of a political church, and its exertion of a codified frame of reference to influence the very expression of a burgeoning mankind still shaking off its caveman past. I mean, even atheists exclaim "dammit!" when surprised or infuriated. THAT'S real power: to shape how mankind thinks and talks. Another feature is the belief that man loses something as he evolves. Happens in biblical and Constitutional purists, and they put the brakes on moving towards the true freedom necessary for brotherhood to fulfill its potential.

    The virgin birth is important to Christians because of Arianism. Arius (born 256 CE in Libya), declared that there was a time Jesus did not exist. He believed in an adoptionist theory - that Jesus became God at his baptism by John. The letters of Paul, which predate the Gospels, and the Gospel of Mark, the first Gospel to be composed, do not have a birth narrative. In combating Arianism, Mary received the title, Theotokos - God bearer. Suddenly, hymns, paintings, and churches dedicated to Mary cropped up all over the place. She also started to appear in places in visions. Luke's Gospel states Mary was a virgin when she conceived. Matthew's Gospel never says that. The reader just assumes it. All Matthew's Gospel states is that Joseph discovered she was pregnant. An angel appears to Joseph - not Mary - in a dream and tells him that the child will be the Messiah. The church's battle with Arianism show that the virgin birth is needed for Christianity because without it, they have a harder time defending their concept of Trinity.

      I am aware of all the mythological embellishments surrounding the Buddha's birth and life. If you read all the sutras, you will see myriad stories of miracles attributed to him...always by others...as well as sexism too. Now you can either take all of that as truth or use your brain to see through the male chauvinistic politics of the time or the fervently faithful embellishments.
      If the Buddha was truly enlightened, do you think he would claim to be divine or lie about his nature? One of my favorite sayings from him: paraphrased -
      There are things seen by the eye,
      Heard by the ear,
      Tasted by the tongue,
      Touched by the body,
      Thoughts arising from the contact of these corresponding objects to these senses...

      “Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.”
      ― Gautama Buddha

      technically you are correct, Devaki was not a virgin. However this article (part of it) gives a more detailed explanation of the birth
      "Lord Vishnu himself later appeared to Devaki and Vasudeva and told them that he himself would be their eight son and kill Kansa and destroy sin in the world. In the story of Krishna the deity is the agent of conception and also the offspring.[citation needed] Because of his sympathy for the earth, the divine Vishnu himself descended into the womb of Devaki and was born as her son, Vaasudeva (i.e., Krishna).[citation needed]
      This is occasionally brought up as evidence for the hypothesis that "virgin birth" tales are fairly common in non-Christian religions around the world.[51][52][53] However, there is nothing in Hindu scriptures to suggest that it was a "virgin" birth. By the time of conception and birth of Krishna, Devaki was married to Vasudeva and had already borne 7 children.[54] Virgin birth in this case should be more accurately understood as divine conception. Kunti the mother of the Pandavas referenced contemporaneously with the story of Krishna in the Mahabharata also has divine conception and virgin birth of Prince Karna."

    Honestly i don't know much about the myth or reality of virgin birth in other faiths and religions however, Hitchens quoting that Krishna was born of a virgin birth in relation to hinduism is utterly wrong. He was born to Devaki and her husband, Vasudeva,When Mother Earth became upset by the sin being committed on Earth, she thought of seeking help from Lord Vishnu. She went in the form of a cow to visit Lord Vishnu and ask for help. Lord Vishnu agreed to help her and promised her that he would be born on Earth. On Earth in the Yadava clan, he was yadav according to his birth, a prince named Kansa sent his father Ugrasena (King of Mathura) to prison and became the King himself. One day a loud voice from the sky (Akash Vani in Hindi) prophesied that the 8th son of Kansa's sister (Devaki) would kill Kansa. Out of affection for Devaki, Kansa did not kill her outright. He did, however, send his sister and her husband (Vasudeva) to prison. Lord Vishnu himself later appeared to Devaki and Vasudeva and told them that he himself would be their eighth son and kill Kansa and destroy sin in the world. In the story of Krishna the deity is the agent of conception and also the offspring.[citation needed] Because of his sympathy for the earth, the divine Vishnu himself descended into the womb of Devaki and was born as her son, Vaasudeva (i.e., Krishna).[citation needed] This is occasionally cited as evidence that "virgin birth" tales are fairly common in non-Christian religions around the world.However, there is nothing in Hindu scriptures to suggest that it was a "virgin" birth. By the time of conception and birth of Krishna, Devaki was married to Vasudeva and had already borne 7 children.
    In summation i am not trying to credit or discredit anything but a clearer and better interpretation and translation of religious and mythological facts would have been much better appreciated from learned men like Late Hitchens.

In original Mahabharata Suryadev impregnated Kunti and also restored her physiological virginity after Karna's birth. You need to know that there is no concept of original sin in ancient Hinduism. Sex is not seen as bad here, at least in Hinduism. So virgin birth not necessary for divinity.

    The quest for unification seeks to find physical laws that are valid in all situations and locations in spacetime. The point of physical laws is that they should not work in only one situation or location, but that they are valid in all of spacetime. The fact that Newton's laws are not valid in certain situation (e.g near light speed, at planck distances) proves that it is not an absolute physical law.
