In this speech from our 2007 debate, 'We'd be better off without religion', the late Christopher Hitchens argues that religion has been at the root of many of the conflicts that have shaped the 20th-21st century world.
He cites the current situations in the Balkans, the Middle East, and Northern Ireland as examples, noting that in these places, it has been intra-faith disputes that have caused or aggravated the conflicts and slowed political and social progress.

@Generic NameLet me suggest something. Read a book entitled 'The 12th Planet.' Almost everything you see about it on the internet is either ignorance or disinformation. But by familiarizing yourself w/the AAE, the Ancient Astronaut Evidence, you'll understand the origin of that "archaic book." It's well worth understanding, because we thereby see the truth of human origins, which decades ago should've replaced the nonsense on the subject still being taught in school, as well as the literal interpretation of the Old Testament.
There's a lot more I could tell you, but I'll stop there. Should you take my suggestion & read that book w/an open mind, you'll soon realize why I emphasize it.
Just adding one thought here. Dr Arthur C Clarke's most famous quote was, "Sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Getting one's mind fully around that, & keeping it in mind, is indispensable to grasping the big picture.

    • @ggalaxy9065
      @ggalaxy9065 Год назад

@Generic Name No lesson there folks, just a typical display of ignorance, dime a dozen variety.
There's no connection between the AAE & 'ufology.' The Coast to Coast show has largely been a disinformational vehicle for some time now. My suggestion (probably wasted here) would be to relax that death grip on the irrational belief in non-belief, & take a shot at actually learning something. Who knows, you might like it.

I'm not sure I would agree with the ambasador of reason part, his language is as religious as anyone and his followers worship him as such. You only need to read the comments to see this. The truth of the matter is to be human is to be religious. It doesn't matter if your athesist or not. Athesism isn't a non-belief, atheists believe a great many thing and behave as religious as any.

    • @Jer0867

@@lukeb8045 “To be human is to be religious”. On what basis do you make that claim? Are you saying that the default setting of humans is to have a belief in the irrational & illogical, and that anything else is to be a deviation of that condition? As for atheists believing a great many things; what's your point? Are you saying that, without religious faith, a person cannot believe anything? Do I really need to explain what's wrong with that statement, or why it is bigoted and ignorant? Probably not, but I will. I am an atheist (which, by the way, is the default setting of ANY human baby born, irrespective of race, culture or nationality...but that is an argument in itself). But I “believe” in a great many things. I won't list them, as they are too numerous. However, suffice it to say, the things that I believe in are those for which there exists empirical evidence to support their validity. In other words, if something makes sense to me, in terms of logical plausibility and probability, I will believe it. By definition, of course I will. Only an imbecile would not. And, as for you saying that “atheism isn't a non-belief”; well, how ELSE would you describe it? That statement alone really does highlight your complete and utter misunderstanding of the term “atheism”, and serves to expose your stupidity, ignorance and woeful lack of logical capacity!

Christians place their proof for Jesus on Flavious Vespasian Ceasar's adopted scribe Flavious Josephus. At the time the Jews burned down Rome in 66AD. Josephus was hired to spin doctor and divide the Jews with propaganda designed to keep spreading antisemetism forever. In 69AD the Romans lead by Vespasian destroyed the Jewish sacred city of Jerusalem. Then they built the Coliseum with the spoils that included their menorah. Together the new bible and the Coliseum were a perpetual machine - destroying the Christians for entertainment and spreading hate. People paid to see the slaughter. They were the perfect combo that kept working for many years to come.

The purpose of Jesus dying for all of humanity is to save us from eternity with the devil and these demons. He came to share with us that there's life after death and our choice will determine our destination whether it's heaven or hell.
Sadly that the world would rather take the chance and die believing that there's no afterlife when they know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them.
For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities his eternal power, and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
Demon possessions have happened every day around the world for over 2000 years.

The 2LT has various aspects, one being the universe is winding down, entropy. Usable energy is becoming less usable, so at one point usable energy was at its max. This all points to a supernatural creation, by a supernatural creator at a certain point in which matter, space, and time were created. He had great emptiness, not a great mind.
Hitch who pretends to know the bible as he screws up on it over and over again including what faith means biblically.
--"Faith is the surrender of the mind, it's the surrender of reason, it's the surrender of the only thing that makes us different from other animals. It's our need to believe and to surrender our skepticism and our reason, our yearning to discard that and put all our trust or faith in someone or something, that is the sinister thing to me. ... Out of all the virtues, all the supposed virtues, faith must be the most overrated”-- Christopher Hitchens
Now, look at what biblical faith really means that Hitch the dumbass didn't even look at:
Biblically, faith means trust. It's a trust by evidence seen. God asks that we prove things. To reason. To get knowledge. To study. God has nothing to hide. We develop trust from what is seen, and that which is not seen yet is trusted also because of the trust built up from what is seen. It's much like a human relationship. We don't trust much until a person has gained that trust from what is observed. The difference is though, God is not limited to human powers. He created us.
Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Hitchens always went into evasive word farting to avoid key questions like how we got the creation of the universe.
Real science says nothing does nothing. Real science says if there was something there already it must fit with the evidence of what we know. We know the 1LT says there's a conservation of energy. It can change forms and neither can be created or destroyed. Creation cannot happen by natural means. The 2LT has various aspects, one being the universe is winding down, entropy. Usable energy is becoming less usable, so at one point usable energy was at its max. This all points to a supernatural creation, by a supernatural creator at a certain point in which matter, space, and time were created. When I read how it can happen otherwise, ALL the fools resort to science-fiction. Once a supernatural creation is accepted, then the next step is finding proof of what supernatural power did it.
We can't even get science without God. The laws of nature only can come from a Lawgiver, God.
      Only shallow people follow Hitchens.

Richard was not curious or sought knowledge. You're easily deceived.

@@2fast2block You have the burden of proof backwards. but I'll humor you.
The uncreatable nature of energy does not prove the existence of a creator in fact it disproves it.
The fact that unstable energy was at one point more unstable does not point to ay supernatural substance since we have observed the change in energy from inert to unstable.
since you seem to believe you have all the answers would you care to answer the Epicurean paradox?

I missed out on meeting him closely 2 or 3 times, before it was finally too late. I had to console myself with his suggestion that we should visit the hall of human origins at the smithsonian in DC and see the remarkably curated exhibits there. So we 3 weary Brits travelled to ontario, Canada, and drove to DC - taking it in turns to drive and sleep.
He was right, it was fabulous. I only found out after checking in that my room was mere yards away from his Connecticut Ave former home, and actually overlooked it.
This mans output was truly the pinnacle of intelligent discourse. I’ve not seen wit nor eloquence like this before or since. We are so very much poorer for his absence. His voice would be more important and relevant now than ever. Thank goodness for these records.
      Thanks for everything, Christopher.

This is the way it is. I do not expect any of you to agree but I hope that maybe these words will get you off of that evil path that you are on. We fell here from heaven to redeem ourselves and to return to heaven. Not to get rich and fat, then get diseased and die. Both Buddha and Christ came here to point that out and if we do not at least try to redeem ourselves we will end up in Hell. That's all folks, good luck.

I was baptised into the CofE. None of our family never went to church so I don't really know why they bothered. I rejected Christianity and religion in general quite early on. I was in the Boy Scouts. At one point a new lad joined our Scout troop and shortly afterwards our excellent scoutmaster Bob resigned. It turned out that the new lad was a Catholic and the vicar of the church we were affiliated with barred him. That set me thinking about whether all the brotherly love and tolerance my church was preaching was actually practised by them. As Hitchens points out, the new lad was the wrong kind of Christian. This wasn't in Northern Ireland, however, it was in an east London borough in the 1960s.
