I Looooove your video for support as a 1st year teacher. If you can put Albert Alicea on your Prayer List Ms. May. He is a father of my student that just got diagnosed with cancer and she told me today. Please Pray and all teachers on here. Thank you!!! Love you Ms. May!!!
Isaiah 41:10 Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand. I pray your student's father receives healing and that he heals and protects her and the whole family emotionally, physically, spiritually, and mentally. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. ((Hugs))
You're my classroom management guru. Been teaching 22 years, but I listen to your videos every summer and love using your tips. Thank you, Lovely Lady!! ❤
Ms. May, you are most certainly One Fab Teacher. I am very thankful that I happened upon your RUclips videos. They are literally an answer to my prayers! I will be supporting you because you deserve it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I’m not doing public school anymore and I’m still watching your videos. Great info , I learned early on not to rely so much on worksheets , but hands-on and kinesthetic activities. I taught HS. ❤
TY for this video. You move and talk like a seasoned teacher, it's warming. I'm a homeschool mom of 7 and I like the message of this video. It's a good mindset and reminder. Structure is so important. Children like predictability! When they know what is expected, it's easy to enforce the routine.
Unfortunately this year our kiddos have to eat breakfast in the room. I quickly found trying to do morning work was a sticky hot mess. My students when they arrive go to one of our STEM Bins. I was able to get a Donor's Choose funded and that's where we got all our materials for the bins from.
I'm a sub and I teach anything from juniors to 4th grade between my normal 9-5; usually 3-5 days per month. I love getting perspective from exceptional people like you. I usually have an activity in my bag, but just follow the lesson plan if it fills the day. I can definitely appreciate the busy-work aspect of worksheets, but art or something is more fun, particularly because a lot of classes are eating. I have also noticed how hard it is for subs to figure out what they're doing on their tech 😂. Anyways, thanks for the perspective from the teacher. Subs are doing our best and loving it.
Sorry, another comment...it also depends on your admin. Our admin expects us to do phonics and phonemic awareness direct instruction first thing in the morning every morning. We are also given the curriculum to teach these. So it is very specific and very structured. I wish I would vary it, just like you are suggesting. Thank you for your ideas. I teach first grade in Los Angeles, btw. :)
I have a routine with my students too , We greet each other than before to begin our lessons we do some movement and song our morning song then we read together the date.
Ms. May I appreciate your openess and honesty. I love your tips they are so practical and encouraging. Also, I was curious are you a morning Bible reader or night? How do you fit that into your day?
Thank you so much. If I'm not running late, I read at least a chapter before I begin my day. Sometimes I read on my lunch break, and sometimes at night. I really want to get better with reading first thing in the morning, and the last thing before I go to sleep. ((HUGS))
I LOVE LOVE LOVE !!! your videos and inspirations! Today is July 22 and Yesterday I was finishing the final touches in my class. I have my morning tubs ready, and my plans on what routines to teach for the first day/week. I have my teacher tool kit all setup. I had a shopping spree in your store LOL. Now I am super excited about scripture writing! I have read the bible in a year with some of my teacher besties. I have been desiring and praying about a way to deepen my relationship/walk with God and I came across your scripture writing video. I almost jumped out of my skin! LOL I have shared the videos with my teacher besties and we are going to start on January 1,2024 I just need some tips on where to find a good journal. It looks like the one from Target is no longer available . Keep doing what you're doing Girl You are changing lives!!! Loves and Blessings to you.
Thank you sooooo much Ms. May!!! As a student teacher now I was wondering about the worksheets every morning. In the class I working in now that all we do every morning. I do have a question what are morning tubs? I can not wait to see the planners for next year. Please keep sending out the advice especially for us first year teacher!! Thank you so much for the encouragement and kind words!!
You are so very welcome. Yes, I don't like too many worksheets. I like the in moderation. Within you the best in your student teaching journey! Remember to try and enjoy the moments! ((Hugs))
Something about this video was very encouraging for me. This is over 10 years for me and my 1st year in the library. I HATE IT. Your voice and attitude make me look forward to being in a different school and in my own classroom again
@@OneFABTeacher that really means a lot to me. This is my 2nd year in Houston and 2nd year in charter. I think I’m going to try the ISDs next year. That small encourages is everything today. I hope the rest of your year is BLESSED!
Ms. May would it be possible to upload you teaching a math & literacy lesson for 1st grade? It would be so helpful!! I wanna know what it looks like when you teach! 😊
Miss May tell me about the water bottles in the crate. I detest water bottles on the desk. I've tried them on the floor, but..... they fall over. I need a better way.
They all go inside a crate. They get up and get water as needed as long as I'm not teaching. I agree, water bottles on the tables is a BIG, NO for me. lol They crate keeps them snug and out of the way. ((HUGS))
Sometimes I do and when I do, my teaching partner will have them up and ready for me and sign in as a guest. However, sometimes I don't and I just go the old school route. For transitions, my subs will you the call backs to get their attention and move on to the next activity. ((HUGS))

I make a monthly booklet of review activities. We check it together quickly every morning. It goes home at the end of the month.
Question Miss May.. just confirming... you have your transition slides up for your sub to use. How do you share that with the sub?
Sometimes I do and when I do, my teaching partner will have them up and ready for me and sign in as a guest. However, sometimes I don't and I just go the old school route. For transitions, my subs will you the call backs to get their attention and move on to the next activity. ((HUGS))
Love it! ❤
Did you make your scribble books or buy them? Could you show what they look like or a link if you bought them.
I'm working on uploading these. As soon as it's done I will share the link! ((Hugs))
@@OneFABTeacher awesome!! Thank you ❤️
