I did the same! I’m beginning my 3rd year in first and have watched every video and taken notes. I’ve also shared lots of the ideas with my veteran teachers on my team and they’ve used some. Miss May is a Godsend!
I wish I was at your school as a first year teacher! I could learn so much and look to you when and if I became overwhelmed and needed help. Your demeanor is so calming. Thank you. -Fellow Houstonian
I’m a middle school teacher in my 3rd year and just found your videos today. It’s one thing to see these in a book, completely another to have it described and acted out. Love these!
Thank you so much for all of your fabulous videos, Miss May! ☺️ I have watched and rewatched them, and you have such wonderful advice and the best attitude! You are such an inspiration for me as a kindergarten teacher! 💜
Amen 🙏 I totally agree "Always pray because God will always make a way" . Love all the Procedures especially the Attention Getting one. Thank you for sharing 💟
Hello Ms. May, thank you for your videos. You have helped mentor me through my first year of teaching. I have followed your advice to a T and every person that walks through my classroom is amazed by the love they feel. But the secret to our success has been the emphasis in routines and procedures. Thank you!
Thank you for all the information you share with us! I’m going into my First year teaching second grade and your videos are very informative! Love your work thank so much for your help
SO happy I found your channel! Taught 2nd last year (virtually) and this will be my first year teaching in-person AND first grade. I’m thinking of it as my first year PT 2. So grateful for your advice!! 💛
This has been so informative and helpful! I have not taught before and everyone keeps telling me to create routines and procedures to teach on the first day, and nobody was explaining what that meant. I'm excited for the year and you made this so much easier than what I thought it would be
Good morning you are totally Awesome! I'm teaching preK getting babies ready for kindergarten and I'm totally struggling with management in classroom and the mixed classes I'm getting with 4 year olds up to late birthday 6 year olds. My biggest struggle is the most intelligent child who constantly argues with me, then the child who throws tantrums when they don't get their way. I'm a mess. Thank you I'm Lori Spring Texas Klein
Thank you so much! I would also add lunch time procedures are important to think through as well if you’re a school where you do lunch duty. At my school, we have no lunch break for the entire first week of school. It’s rough.
Love all of your videos!! This one especially put me at ease for the first day, thank you!!! The only procedure I still need to think through is how my students will get my attention. How do you prefer your students to get your attention? :)
Thank you so much! Honestly, a simple raising their hand. I just model what that looks like and sounds like. They can even ask friends before they ask me too. ((Hugs))
Hi Honey, I love your videos and always learn something new. Would Love to see a video on how to deal with kids that do not follow those expectations. I always have some kids that will not raise there hands, run around no matter how often i show them how to do it, explaining why it is Important.... maybe you have some more tipps
Hi. MISS MAY. Thank you for yuor FAB procwdures. How much time should we practice them? Love you. Miss Miriam, the colorful tracher. Pd: can you make a classroom tour video? Eager to see your decor with your awesome watercolor decor.
It just depends on your class. I spend about 5 minutes discussing and modeling it for them and 5 minutes them modeling. Some procedures are quicker than others. ((Hugs))
Ms. May, (Pardon me. I've not read to see if another commenter has already asked.) Can you do a "back to school with Covid rules" version? I taught virtually all year and am super curious to know how I'll adapt my YEARS of management/movement/community strategies given any restrictions we may have when we return. Carpet time? Bookbag hooks? Hug/high five? Small groups? Turn to your partner? Help!!!🤯🥺🤔 Thanks in advance!
Hey I just watched your original video on procedures from 4 years ago and i was wondering how do yoh handle bathroom if multiple boys or girls need to go at the same time. I love the idea of the passes with only one boy or one girl but how should they determine who goes next so there isnt wrestling match for the pass lol.
Honestly, when they get use to this it just flows. If it's a true emergency I let them go along with the other two. For the most part they know how to wait. ((HUGS))
I’m a first year second grade teacher this year and I am totallly binge watching all your videos!!!
Yay!!! Many ((Hugs))💛💛

Awwwww, y’all are so sweet! Thank you. ((Hugs))
I’m going into my 6th year teaching and I still make detailed plans for my first week. Those routines and procedures are so important to teach!
((HUGS))
Perfect, just what I needed. I was in need of a refresher. The first day of school is always a blur. Thanks Ms. May. God bless.
Awesome! Thank you for watching. ((Hugs))💛

On the first day what are the kids doing while your greeting your kids at the door.
I have color sheets waiting for them at their seats and a welcome packet they can practice writing their ABC's, 123's, etc. ((HUGS))
