    Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
    AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/425k5rG
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/3WEuz0k
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv

How to find a manager - know a guy who's a manager. If you don't know a guy - goodluck on writing.
How to be a good writer - get a manager. If you don't have a manager - goodluck on writing.
    Amazing advice. 10/10

That’s what I heard. You’re either in the club or you’re not going to make it.
Gotta find a producer to “please” just like in the old days

It's always valuable to hear a pragmatic business side of things. I think the thing that really separates amateurs from professionals is exactly that "keep it simple" attitude. It's easy to start feeling defensive or want to seek validation. But the truth is that the people want a product and they don't really care about the baggage.
I'm really struggling with that one, and would totally be the "long email" guy if I was a writer looking for a manager. Because I would seek special approval and would try to get under their wing. But it's a wrong mindset. The ones who are able to transcend that insecurity and start looking from the point of providing value are those that succeed in my opinion.

The city is teeming with people whose livelihoods depend on seeking out quality material. They will find you or you will find them.
The overwhelmingly difficult thing is cranking out terrific page turning material. That’s your one and only focus. It’s infinitely more difficult and time consuming than any other aspect of building a successful writijg career.
(I’ll comment again later after I watch the video in full but I’m at a bar and wanted to get that comment out there before I get in this Uber)

@@wexwuthor1776 I didn’t say that the material that ends up being ultimately made is quality, I am saying they are constantly trying to discover new writers who have good samples (so that they can assign them various work on various projects that are swirling around the company in varying levels of completion)

Killer material is the main thing, but not the only thing right?
If you’re sitting there churning out gold and no one ever sees it- what’s the point?

At least it’s safe to say Mr. Katz is a true professional: acknowledges the fickle nature of artistic process, emphasizes the importance of curating a few quality contacts rather than pages of fluff, and even stresses the “business” half of showbiz as a realistic factor any work-selling artist must not act too precious to consider
