    Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
    AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/425k5rG
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/3WEuz0k
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv

How did you like this inside look at the entertainment business?

I loved it! Just knowing the difference between a pitch meeting vs general meeting is the difference between knowing to hire an agent vs a manager. When everyone expects you to have an agent, but you need a manager - that could be a huge costly investment that may not pay out depending on who you choose to represent you! When Laverne was talking about how general meetings are like meet and greets (to get to know you a bit), I got nervous. I am primarily a stay at home mom with a pandemic's worth of job space between me and my last job. I want to get into writing/creating children's cartoons and potentially movies if things go well - but that's usually a huge no-no to mention in a job interview (period). I don't want to lie - I believe being honest is important. So...any advice for full-time parents/caregivers entering into a general meeting for the first time?

Love it - this is great. Thanks for raising the point about "oversharing" personal information. I come from the approach of curating personal info aggressively. And I like Laverne McK's suggestion in a general to Tee Up a pitch of a specific project for a future meeting. Sort o' like clinching the Second Date!😉 Terrific parting advice, too - Just Have Fun [and maybe impart some Passion] is spot-on!

I'm really glad you're posting content like this; I think especially younger screenwriters need to be savvier in order to avoid having their work or ideas snaked away from them. Like the concept of 'mini-rooms', I think, can be particularly predatory to screenwriters in need. And writers are often treated as a kind of bottom rung in Hollywood that can easily be disposed of.

I really appreciate her addressing your relationship and understanding of your identity before writing. So many people who are so unfamiliar with navigating spaces differently feel the need to be an activist before learning. Even though learning is the only way to be a better and more authentic creator.

"Tara Lipinsky it." GREAT advice for life in general! Prepare well, then let the abundance of preparation flow freely. Relax and have fun. When we are tense, we make those around us tense.

We have an expression amongst writers, “There’s no such thing as a general meeting.” This comes from several “generals” leading to a moment where the exec asks, “So what are you working on?” Suddenly, you’re in a mini pitch meeting. So always be prepared to do a conversational pitch if things turn that way. As Laverne said, read the room, but also be ready.

This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear right now. I'm preparing all I can to pitch to a few different companies, so thank you for the insight!

Wow she was hidden from me for so long I can’t believe I’m just seeing her today. I feel like we only find things when we are ready, through whatever you want to call it. I like to think of it as synchronicity.
