Wow - just realized why I loved that song so much before I started consciously paying attention to drums. So is this an amalgam of Gordon & Keltner? Who played which part?
Yep, they played the whole tour together with Chuck Blackwell from Taj Mahal occasionally filling in for either of them. From what I’ve seen, it looks and sounds like Keltner was adding more embellishment to Gordon’s playing.
@@vintagedrummer79 Keltner said in an interview that he realized"that I didn't have to work too hard here" as Gordon seemed to be providing the main drive in most of the songs.
Jim really swinging in the jazzy intro. One of his most comprehensive displays, I think. I could listen to him play like this for hours, which he surely could, without losing a moment’s interest. I’m an old Australian guy who never saw the players of this era but they speak my language.
Its the way his left hand plays all those ghost notes and THAT GRIP. a guys gotta have a bunch of time put in to be so liberal with that grip. Kodus man. Big-time
Ryan, thanks for this version! Gordon and Keltner's playing on this album is excellent. Have you heard the studio version of The Letter? Here the solo section with drums and backing vocals at the end is even more impressive. ruclips.net/video/G5n2texv_yc/видео.html

Please do Jim Gordon on Snow Queen, by carol king’s band The City. Fascinating swinging gem in 3/4.
Ah yes! Good call. That’s a great and underrated album.

Thank you, Arthur! Yes, I’ve heard that single version before. Also excellent!
Beautiful playing, what do you use to record these videos?
Thank you! I appreciate it! It’s just the mic from my iPhone.

Is this Gordon or Keltner that we’re seeing?
