CLT is my home airport. If you think the chaos on the airside is bad, just wait until you experience the random parking lot/deck shutdowns, maze to get into the one of two entrances to the airport, and the fact that you cannot get from parking to security without taking one of two escalators which are no where close to security. But Charlotte has always had a philosophy of waiting until it's too late to update infrastructure. The City taking over the airport was the blow of death imo.
one of my first flights as a regional pilot (LWB to CLT) was into gate E4 in CLT... thank god the IOE check airman knew what he was doing, i was still trying to hold onto the horizontal stab and was still mentally in LWB... but physically sitting in the FO seat in CLT... -ack 20 years ago... i guess for some reason they think the orange line and blue line makes things easier, but they're hard to see what color they are at night.
I got lucky flying into CLT and only had about a 10 min taxi. Worked out for making my tight connection - I showed up half way through boarding my next flight. Of course, I had to transfer from Terminal C to B but not too bad of a walk. I've experienced long wait times for takeoff though, presumably because they alternate aircraft landing then taking off. We departed 36R.
I'm one of the ramp controllers in CLT, trust me, we think it's fun too. Would've to know who had you stop at spot 21 for a push off C18, that shouldn't block the south line unless the ramp screwed up the push, which isn't uncommon.
At least three things in this video I heard that were incorrect, but then again I do hear a lot of pilots complain about how CLT is set up. Although, I do agree it’s tiny for the size of the operation.
Boy am I glad my 107 license for flying a drone was 90% how to navigate airports and listen to atc. I could actually understand this thanks to useless faa training
ahhhh when you were saying this on tik tok I really thought you were joking.... now that I'm going for my ppl and understand taxiways it all makes sense... its going to be even worse with the 4th parallel they are building lol
I never really understood how the hell this airport manages to handle so many passengers. I mean it surpasses major hubs like SFO, EWR, IAH or SEA in terms of passenger numbers which is already hard to believe when you just check these airports on google earth, they look like extremely large modern international airports designed to be efficient and handle tons of aircraft and PAX whereas CLT looks like a chaotic airport that once got too small for its passenger demand and has just been adding expansion after expansion over the years. Apart from the fact that this makes it look a bit odd with the concourse fingers spreading in all directions of the original terminal building, I also wonder how it is one of the busiest airports in the US and among the 20 busiest in the world without even having a proper public transport/train connection no multi floor terminals, etc.

Can't wait for the DFW episode. I can't stand CLT either, and I'm just a passenger...Great video

I connected out of there a couple weeks ago. In desperate need of expansion. Specifically B and C concourse, Runways as well.

Great video. Thanks for explaining. Wonder why ATC don't bring you in on 36R, 18L to avoid all the ramp travel? Again thanks for the video.
Good question. Generally arriving from the rest you land 18L and from the west 18R. They use 18L for departures as well.
As a passenger I'm glad I have yet to experience CLT. I guess PHL is a okay airport compare to this.
Thanks for the video
I'd love to hear his take on B/C at PHL with its narrow little alleys

I eventually just stopped trying to understand it. It'll never make sense!
Taxi out is sometimes even longer
That is ridiculous....gave me a headache
I hate everything about CLT ramp design now, whoever thought this was a good idea must have humanity. Note to self never fly to CLT.
