it's amusing you think the meaning for idiot god applies the modern idea of idiot. Azathoth isn't an idiot in the idea that he is dumb. When Azathoth was originally described, idiot meant willfully ignorant. He doesn't care, nor does he want to care, about existence or non existence. he simply wishes to sleep and dream. To be seperate from the games of the Outer Gods.
It was semi-intentional, admittedly. It's easy to joke about that particular title of his, though I hope that, otherwise, I did at least talk correctly about Azathoth before then (about him being sort of this sleeping doom in the Cthulhu mythos). Also, aren't there also some theories that the Ruler of the Outer Gods is being kept asleep by its fellow Outer Gods as to prevent the destruction of the universe? I know some people interpreted that one line in Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath (about beating drums and flutes) as such.
@@pk_tuneworld Ah, I see. My apologies for the misunderstanding then. As for the theory of him being kept asleep... that's... sorta kinda true. People believe it but well... Azathoth and Yog-Sothoth are two avatars of the Ultimate Mystery/Supreme archetype which is, for an incredibly shortened discussion on it cause youtube comments don't contain the room for such, the lovecraftian mythos itself. Azathoth isn't technically sleeping, he's just as aware of what's going on and as effective on the world as a sleeping person, by his own choice. If he could be roused, his attention itself, would be punishment enough. The line that makes people think that Az is the dreamer that makes every aspect of the infinite multiverses in the mythos, is from a non cannon passage from fungi of yuggoth. In terms of the roles we are talking about with the supreme named beings of Az and Yog, the easiest way I've found to describe it is that Az is the programmer and Yog the programming language. The biggest problem with understanding the mythos, especially for those two, is the extremely verbose and flowering language to describe things that hadn't been properly concepted out yet at the time of the writings, so it's harder to understand to modern viewers. The prime example, would be that people don't understand how powerful Cthulhu is, despite him being a mid tier threat at best. He's described as beyond angular space. That's early 1900's speech for beyond dimensional levels. Frankly, the powerlevels being discussed are such that it takes a long time to comprehend.
You get a pass on the way you say the Entities' names. They were never meant to be spoken by mortal tongues. The way you pronounce Xyz is unacceptable, however.
Fun Fact: There is no actual evidence stating that we are apart of Azathoth's dream and that if he wakes up, we all cease to exist. That terrifying feat belongs to lord Dunsany's Mana-Yood-Sushai. I highly recommend watching WebCamParrot's video: Azathoth is not the Supreme Being of the Cthulhu Mythos for more information.
No yeah, I got that, I just found it funny a lot of Cthulhu creatures are these absolute abominations but Cthugha is just “ball” Not that a ball of fire can’t be menacing especially with the vampires he can summon, but idk I found it humorous
I'd appreciate if they fleshed out the archetype, giving it some cultists and horrors where you have to balance resources around your supply of cultists until you have enough of a following for an apocalyptic end. A counter to this archetype or a sub archetype of monster hunter's/investigators would be nice just on the lore side of things. It's an archetype that lends itself to wild and weird mechanics and would be great to convert into the game with no copyright existing on the IP.
I loved this card series so much I set myself a challenge to create an archetype supporting it that would enable you to summon every single one of them as part of some greater strat. I had to invent new boss monsters just to make it viable, which technically is a failure.
Spoilers for The Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath: The marble city in Dreamland's art is not Kadath (which is a rather dark place) but the unnamed city created by Randolph Carter's dreams where the inner gods moved to.
Ah, my mistake then. I will completely admit that "The Haunter of the Dark" is the only text I read in full and detail - the others I was skimming/ looking up analyses of.
Do the Entity cards come up though? I played DDD for a bit after we got the newest support. Azathot and or Norden would be nice, but they're banned; otherwise, the others seem rough/ underwhelming to summon. Dreamland/ Trapezohedron have some light synergy, and Apocrypha feels very match-up dependent.
I really enjoy archetypes that's based on mythologies like Entity with Lovecraft, Fire Kings with Hindu with some Balinese influence, and the four sons of Horus (with Horus himself). There are Ars Goetia based monsters according to the Artbook that's only appeared on Exosister spell/trap cards. Hope Konami will expand them as a separate archetype

You forgot to mention dark contract with the entities it's a D/D/D card that has Nyarla on it with effects depending on which extra deck D/D/D you summon unfortunately its never elaborated on
I didn't explicity mention it because it felt more like an easter egg tied moreso to the DDD archetype than to Entities. Nonetheless, I did use the card's art in the background of the "Outer Entity" chapter of the video as a little easter egg :) I might consider pinning a comment regarding the card if people keep talking about it tho - seems a lot of people had hoped I directly mention the Contract.
I like that Nyarla is on Dark Contract with the Entities. And also that the Entity archtype has all extra deck summoning methods just like D/D/D. I wonder what the connection between both archetypes are (D/D/D is my fav deck btw)
I’m not well versed with the lore of DDD, but I do believe that Nyarla being on that one contract feeds into their narrative. Something something the whole premise of DDD is making contracts with various fiends and demons to summon them (hence why you see King of the Swamp here, Fiendish Chain there, and Yamimakai elsewhere). Good choice of an archetype, btw, love DDD’s too :)
it has come up and been used in top tier strategies several times. from back in 2015 ocg nekroz using it to cycle heralds in the grave for free searches, or later used to summon azathot or to abuse rank or material mechanics
You forgot the connection with the D/D/D archetype on “dark contract with the entities” which seems to have a pic of the last page of the forbidden apocrypha with a picture of nyarla on it. The DDD demons have been known to make contracts with other yugioh monsters to gain power, like fusion power from king of the swamp or here a contract with beings higher than the rest.
Honestly, I want them to have a full deck. I think it would be easy to make them level 2 and 4. They are the only cards that use "Forbidden" normal s/t so it's easy to make more support, they can have a fusion spell that lets you xyz summon using your hand or grave and they should have odd effects like zaborg that let you blow up your own cards for draw power(and to trigger n'tss and hastorr.) I think it should be a midrange/control deck that plays like Gusto. Where the cards stick to the board and punish the opponent for using removal. They need a synchro like muddragon that fuses using mons on the board/grave, they need a searcher and they need a gigantic spright link 2.(I nominate daolsm for being the link 2.) The cards have a weird synergy to begin with, dreamlands and norden, n'tss popping hastorr, cthugua sending nyarla back so dreamlands doesn't get an xyz trigger, the synchro effect making it so your level 4's don't get destroyed by the xyz effect, and even the fact that if you make one of your 4's blow up with the xyz effect of dreamlands while you have a fusion on the board giving you a draw. Fun fact, Forbidden Apocrypha is one of the only ways to eliminate cards that are unaffected by any other card effect.
Given you + one other mentioning this, I'll consider looking into them! I liked Tindangles when they were used in Link Vrains - the archetype IRL is w/e but still entertaining. I still have the many of the assets I used in this video too, so it could be an easy pivot :O
Norden’s steed looks more like the description of an old English legend, the Kelpie, rather than a Hypocamp. Plus it fits more with the Celtic influence
We just gotta hope for new support at some point... the archetype has always been used as random one-ofs in unrelated decks as opposed to being its own thing.
Maybe in the future! There's so many monsters in Lovecraftian that haven't yet been translated into the game (including the iconic Cthulhu), so there's definitely room for Konami if they wanna reinvest in the matter.
Wasn't the king in yellow written by Robert W. Chamber. All though I believe that he was never described in the original piece due to the reader of the script going mad.

We are in the “anime” style now. Idk if I like it more than the “dawg wtf” style of whatever two headed thunder ruler or the “that’s just a bulldozer” style.
Nothing necessarily wrong with this - the "anime" style is definitely a lot more marketable nowadays versus all these grotesque monsters. Nonetheless, I think it would be nice for Konami to keep printing stuff of the latter for the demographic that does appreciate it.
Ia had a dream about these people making flesh abomanations in a cave in ancient times, after i had a dream of giant beetles being kept as pets anyways, these people in a cave were making flesh totems that were alive it was like, body parts sewn together to make a new living bieng and a song or chant made it come to life, it was like the things from the forest but more original(i did not play that game its just the closest thing)
I never understood calling Azathoth an antagonist or villain in stories. He's just kind of there. All he does is exist and sleep. He has an epithet of "the blind, idiot god". He doesn't DO anything. Things MIGHT happen if he wakes up, but thats an "if" to a hypothetical, because he's never woken up.
In 2019, Lunalight Timethief could easily stun you with Azathot by using the Phantom Knight rank-up spell (the “launch” rank-up, set by Bardiche) targeting Evilswarm Nightmare or Redoer. Apologies about not mentioning it in the video - I wasn’t being “coy”. I accidentally made the assumption viewers might already know about what I was referring to and thus forgot to mention the specific format in video.
Fun fact: the whole insanity curse from merely looking at anything lovecraftian isn't actually part of the H.P. canon This started with tabletop game adaptations of the books
That is a pretty good bit of trivia because I feel like the majority of people (myself included, admittedly) would assume it originated from Lovecraft with all the people that go mad in his stories.
@@pk_tuneworld its a common misconception from the fact that some characters indeed go mad in his stories, but not from a curse or eldritch aura of any sort Some people just don't have the mental fortitude to deal with certain revelations or horrifying sights. Its actually pretty realistic, pretty sure that not everyone would go mad if we discovered the whole universe is a Matrix-esque virtual simulation for example, but a big number of people certainly wouldn't be able to cope with such thing.

That's early 1900's speech for beyond dimensional levels. Frankly, the powerlevels being discussed are such that it takes a long time to comprehend.
Thx for the content !
We need to have this deck playable, pls konami
Thanks for choosing to watch it! Maybe one day Konami will give the deck more support... it's so easy too with how much lore there is in the Mythos
Unspeakable horrors that are just a formless mass of eyes and teeth are just...
**chef's kiss**
peak aesthetic
You get a pass on the way you say the Entities' names. They were never meant to be spoken by mortal tongues. The way you pronounce Xyz is unacceptable, however.
Thanks for the content
Thanks for watching it :)
When I think Lovecraft, I think of all the racisms... man he was a character.
Thanks to the 3 hour Lovecraftian Other Gods power scaling video i watched last weekend. Here we are, thanks RUclips
Cthugha is infact a big ball of fire. He is basically a sentient star that summons legions of Fire Vampires (space blood sucking squid things.)
No yeah, I got that, I just found it funny a lot of Cthulhu creatures are these absolute abominations but Cthugha is just “ball”
Not that a ball of fire can’t be menacing especially with the vampires he can summon, but idk I found it humorous
It's too bad the best cards are in the banlist. But it's also lore accurate as the most powerful and unfathomable cards in Yugioh.
Except it's justified because they're broken. Azathot's never coming off and Norden is very highly unlikely.
You, the duel logs, and golden nova would make a crazy collab lore video 💯
Loved the video, also the archetype that reminds me of 'lovecraftian' creatures is ghoti since theyre cosmic fish entities
Great Video. I made a Deck with this and D/D/D since they have the Contract with the Entiy Card.
Awesome video
Thanks for watching it :)
This archetype needs more support I was crushed to find that it’s not viable at all
Imagine a character using theese cards in the anime... Oh God...
Hope Konami will expand them as a separate archetype
could you also explore both tierra and sophia? i recently rediscovered yuguoh and it seems interesting that nearly no one talks about their "lore" or stories
The internet corrupted me so hard that the first thing I think about when I hear "HP Lovecraft" is the name of his cat
Please give this archetype support, they could be so cool :D
Lets not forget N'tss being one of the most common Dogmatika Punishment targets
Or pretty much any Dogmatika card that needs the Extra Deck as a resource.
That's how an archetype should look like in Yu gi oh not some anime girls in my opinion
pop off king
Say that to the wrong anime girl and you'll get a message with your ip address.. or you get Torbjorn going through some crap
@@firepuppies4086 i know bro people go crazy for those anime girls but d/d/d and horror archetypes in yu gi oh are still the best in my opinion

Nonetheless, I did use the card's art in the background of the "Outer Entity" chapter of the video as a little easter egg :)
I might consider pinning a comment regarding the card if people keep talking about it tho - seems a lot of people had hoped I directly mention the Contract.
I love the entities, nyarla is one of those cards that's not good but i genuinely think has a lot of potential if a use case for it ever comes up
it has come up and been used in top tier strategies several times. from back in 2015 ocg nekroz using it to cycle heralds in the grave for free searches, or later used to summon azathot or to abuse rank or material mechanics
Thought not explicitly mentioned, it's actually a little easter egg in the background of portions of the "Outer Entity" chapter!
Gorgeous video
Thanks for choosing to watch it!
They need a synchro like muddragon that fuses using mons on the board/grave, they need a searcher and they need a gigantic spright link 2.(I nominate daolsm for being the link 2.)
The cards have a weird synergy to begin with, dreamlands and norden, n'tss popping hastorr, cthugua sending nyarla back so dreamlands doesn't get an xyz trigger, the synchro effect making it so your level 4's don't get destroyed by the xyz effect, and even the fact that if you make one of your 4's blow up with the xyz effect of dreamlands while you have a fusion on the board giving you a draw.
Fun fact, Forbidden Apocrypha is one of the only ways to eliminate cards that are unaffected by any other card effect.
In the Evilswarm archetype, there is a monster named afer a Lovecraftian outer god, Azzatoth.
Me using Hastor in Mellfy about One year ago when i had the deck
Having fun
This man was paid by the yellow king, I mean he said it's name and nothing happened to him.
Maybe one day they'll get another wave of support...
Also, there's another Lovecraftian, or rather, Derlethian archetype: Tindangles!
Given you + one other mentioning this, I'll consider looking into them! I liked Tindangles when they were used in Link Vrains - the archetype IRL is w/e but still entertaining. I still have the many of the assets I used in this video too, so it could be an easy pivot :O
Gotta be Link versions to complete the set of extra deck monsters (hopefully).
Norden’s steed looks more like the description of an old English legend, the Kelpie, rather than a Hypocamp. Plus it fits more with the Celtic influence
I absolutely love this archetype, I just wish it had more support and monsters in it, so it can be more reliable after Azathoth's and Norden's ban!
Lovecrafts work was one of the bigger things to affect my life. how i wish the entity's were more to work with.
Damn, now I wanna play this, but its kinda bad without that rank 5
We just gotta hope for new support at some point... the archetype has always been used as random one-ofs in unrelated decks as opposed to being its own thing.
I love The Doom that came to Sarnath . " with strange eons, even death may die". I think? It been awhile.
Didn't get to read that one yet! Though I assume it'll be interested like the ones I have already read.
I wish we got some more. Maybe link monsters or pendulums. Or even rituals to be more thematic
Maybe in the future! There's so many monsters in Lovecraftian that haven't yet been translated into the game (including the iconic Cthulhu), so there's definitely room for Konami if they wanna reinvest in the matter.
Man I wish we would get more like this. Branded and bystials came close but I'm not about to play branded just for granguin lol
I hope they add these cards to duel links. That would be awesome.
Wasn't the king in yellow written by Robert W. Chamber. All though I believe that he was never described in the original piece due to the reader of the script going mad.
i miss having proper MONSTERS added to the game stuff thats horrifying to look at and not cause its so good its gonna ruin the game

I have actually met the guy that made that drawing!
Wait, what was the author's name? I had found this picture online but a source was seemingly never attached to it. Would love to credit the creator.
@@pk_tuneworld this artwork is in a book from an italian author. Translated, "Necronomic, the Verceto diary" .

Hey, for all we know, that could be the Yugioh-specific lore. Sounds kinda neat in all honesty!
What he named his cat first came to mind
How I wish that this deck was still playable….it needs massive support already
One day.... there's so much stuff to pull from in the Cthulhu Mythos too...
@@pk_tuneworld Indeed, we would need both factions of Cthulu and the Old ones/star spawn vs. Kthanid his half brother and his chosen hero(s); as for me I would love to see a reference to Sundered with Esch and the remains of the fallen Valkyrie technology going up against Nyalarthotep, the shining trapzohedron. Which means it would most likely be a spellcaster/warrior/machine deck vs. entity/fiend/beast deck. Interesting hybrid deck theories always seem to have the most interesting potential in my opinion.
🤷 Adamancipators can summon all of them quite easily.
@@iBloodxHunter how does Adamancapator support entity when they aren’t rocks🫥they literally search out rocks not fiends
i use to use Norden in my toon deck all the time, back when i also used Rescue Rabbit and Toon Alligator x3 copies of them to get Bahamut shark and Toadally Awesome out
The Alien cards were going this route too even the hints they could have been the Light arc, a strange light from Space brainwashing people. The Alien cards came out in in GX Era with the first Alien card "Alien Gray" is a Light type that has effects to control other cards to take them to their own side and they come in different Elements like the Space Hero cards
and some of their artwork with the Alien tumors, their Mother and Cosmic Horror/Fortress and Slicer main card and how there are some card that are not Alien but look like them like Stardust Dragon and Zeta was creepy but then years later they water them down
Could you do a vid on them too?
Bro if you like blood borne and if you like the manga berserk and enjoy dark souls titles in general you should truly extrapolate the branded lore for yourself. It’s got lovecraftian dragons, peak art and lore, and horrifying imagery in its own right.
@@pk_tuneworld I agree
The first thing you thing of when you hear hp lovecraft? Unfortunately its his cats name
Ay, we don’t talk about that one ☠️
"controversial publisher of Lovecraft" uh... isn't almost EVERYONE involved controversial in some way...?
Yeah, but he was a straight up nazi. Also, don't look up his cat's name.
TRUE
what did H.P. Lovecraft name his cat again?
We don't talk about that
God, I wish this was a playable deck.
Maybe one day
Can't wait for them to add lovecraft's cat as a card.
"WAIT WAIT WAIT"
I just wish they weren't so terrible. There's a decent amount of synergy, but they just don't do enough outside of N'tess, Norden, and Azathot.
There boss monster is badass asf thts why he's banned
I used these cards alongside my Alien deck! Full on alien invasion that ends with the summoning of an eldritch god!😈💀
The king in yellow predates lovecraft's works and inspired him
As much as I like my 37th dragon deck and my waifus, sometimes I wish to play a deck that gives “duel MONSTERS” It’s name.
We have enough weeb arts, we need to bring back the true "monster" feeling to yugioh
1st thing i think of is the name of his cat 😐
Nyarlathotep kinda based. Like who even lives in wisconsin? It's just free land.
the worst part is the archetype doesnt have HPs cat.
💀
@@pk_tuneworld i regret nothing. if konami denies me DMG booba i want the kitty
If they are inspired by lovecraft at least they kept out the racism.
Run of anime girl entity monsters when?
Celtic has a hard C not a soft C.
Ah, my b, thanks for catching that!
No I do not remember that format where we kept locking the opponent out of their turn. Why be so coy about explaining what you're talking about?
In 2019, Lunalight Timethief could easily stun you with Azathot by using the Phantom Knight rank-up spell (the “launch” rank-up, set by Bardiche) targeting Evilswarm Nightmare or Redoer.
Apologies about not mentioning it in the video - I wasn’t being “coy”. I accidentally made the assumption viewers might already know about what I was referring to and thus forgot to mention the specific format in video.
Subed
arent these all banned?
Only Azathot and Norden! All the rest are just a bit underwhelming (minus N'tss which sees use in Dogmatika engines)
Im from Michigan, i know the reason to invade Wisconsin; get rid of Culver's and spread the cheese curds freely.
Fun fact: the whole insanity curse from merely looking at anything lovecraftian isn't actually part of the H.P. canon
This started with tabletop game adaptations of the books
That is a pretty good bit of trivia because I feel like the majority of people (myself included, admittedly) would assume it originated from Lovecraft with all the people that go mad in his stories.
@@pk_tuneworld its a common misconception from the fact that some characters indeed go mad in his stories, but not from a curse or eldritch aura of any sort
Some people just don't have the mental fortitude to deal with certain revelations or horrifying sights.
Its actually pretty realistic, pretty sure that not everyone would go mad if we discovered the whole universe is a Matrix-esque virtual simulation for example, but a big number of people certainly wouldn't be able to cope with such thing.
How to get demonitized in 3 sec speedrun ... if you know you know ...
Konami couldve make it a true archetype much like eldrazi from mtg
I think outer entity azothoth is also based on the old lore too!
Now the common chutulu mythos is the version where he awakens all die.
But in the original? He isn't omnipotent and the music they play is to get him more powerful rather than making him sleep
Tho that's what I heard
It's like myhhks trying to beat the "looking at it makes you insane" allegation
My brother in christ, there's no way you can "mispronounce" a Lovecraftian inspired name since part of the fun is that the names cannot be physically pronounced by anyone
Was just future-proofing myself in case there was someone claiming there was a "right" way to pronounce them
i think of his cat
Annihiliation was a rip-off of Stalker (originating from the Russian novel "Roadside Picnic"). It's not based on lovecraftian lore.
