One disadvantage to buying quality clothing is that my stuff isn't wearing out fast enough to justify purchasing new gear. I have two hoodies that were gifts that still have the tags on them.
It's not a disadvantage it is how clothing should be. It's wasteful and damaging to the environment to be chewing through clothes like they are disposable.
I long to have this issue only most phenomenal quality clothes are only available online. I’ve been trying to look for a wardrobe that I don’t have to keep buying. Any suggestions
I understand the shorts and jacket thing, if you’re just lounging around the house and need to run a quick errand why change into jeans when you can just grab a hoodie or jacket and be on your way. If they’re outside for an extended period of time (like not just walking between buildings, going from the car into a building etc.) I have no idea why they didn’t just put on something warmer than shorts
I know exactly what you mean by the American Giant making other hoodies feel cheap! The way you described it feeling structured and dense was absolutely on point.
Carl Murawski only disappointment I experienced was when I bought a ten year hoodie and it didn’t fit, you were not lying about it being an athletic cut 😂
Flint and Tinder is pulling some BS with their weight claims, I think they used linear yd while AG uses sq yd. The weight of the American Giant is so much more than F&T, in fact in Garment weight the F&T thermal lined weighs almost exactly the same as the AG. WEK is American made with similar weight to the AG but they don't pre shrink so upsize. Camber is king of weight with their double layered 12 oz, a true knit jacket.
Man I wish I could love hoodies but I can’t. I’m more of a pullover sweatshirt kind of guy, I just personally prefer to wear hats instead of hoodies. Also the shorts and sweater guy comes out at around 30 degree weather here in NYC 😂
Love my Reigning Champ. I’ve got a heavy duty version that is double lined in the hood and solid but fits quite trim. Good for an athletic or slim build but won’t work for everyone.
I was about to say 1620 workwear is great made in USA hoodies that I think out rival carhartt and having buttons on the neck instead of drawstrings is amazing and way safer and cleaner looking
Any insight on the extra heavy Iron Heart hoodies? It's $300 but seems like a really quality buy. I know some people say denim-makers should stay only making denim, but I think an Iron Heart zip-up hoodie will be a great forever purchase.
What about Filson's Prospector Hoodie on clearance for $45? Retail price is $88. Composition is 75/25 cotton/poly blend. And it's imported. Weighs at 13oz.
I have the exact American Giant hoodie you displayed. I like it, but LL Bean Katahdin fleece-lined hoodie is my favorite for warmth, durability and comfort. That said, this year’s version slapped on an annoying logo (an irritating new trend with LL Bean-even on men’s bathrobes 😖).
I used to have a great American Giant pull over and I wore it out. Then about a year ago I got a zip up and it felt like the quality dipped dramatically. Has anyone else experienced that?
I have the filson mackinaw anorak in navy. It’s awesome. I also have the filson foul weather hoodie on order. The anorak is a pullover made of 24oz mackinaw wool with double lined hood, a high zip neck and a and is very warm. The Foul weather hoodie is 24oz mackinaw wool with full zip hoodie with a layer of tin cloth on the hood, shoulders and arms.

I live in Southern California, and although it does get down to the high 30s down here, I don’t find need for a sweater once I start working. But, for casual days the Bayside Apparel is a 9.5 oz hoodie 80% cotton and 20% polyester Made in USA hoodie that does the trick for me.
I have 2 of the Taylor Stitch hoodies that I've found lightly used on ebay for less than 50% msrp. They're by far some of my favorite casual pieces of clothing for a chilly fall/spring day or summer night. Obviously they're not enough for winter, sadly. But I switch to wool sweaters by then anyway.
Sadly, I remember shopping at cheap department stores like Kmart and Ames, both closed now, and being able to buy a quality hoodie similar to the American Giant about 25-30 years ago. I remember a brand called Big Yank that made a have high quality hoodie for less than $20. Today, everything is made so cheap now, if one insists on quality you must pay this kind of money.

Hey Carl, this is with out a doubt the best review on these hoodies . Exactly what I was looking for and couldn't find until now. Awesome Job!!!!!
"Just Say No" to pumpkin beer !🍺🍺😀 Have had my American Giant Classic for 3 years now. Great choice if your waist measurement is larger than your chest !
I had a close friend growing up and he only wore shorts. Eventually we both went on a Boy Scout camping trip so cold he had to wear pants(I think it was in the 20’s Fahrenheit). He looked kinda ridiculous in pants. He just had super long legs for his size and nothing fit him right. Maybe there are other reasons for those people who always wear shorts, but that’s the only one I’ve heard firsthand.

Shorts with a hoodie explained: I get hot easily. Especially inside. With synthetic heat. But I also get cold. But as long as my core is warm, the rest of me is fine. Makes it easy to layer up my core and just shed those and have on a pair of shorts and a t shirt while inside.
