I really liked this album. The only song I disliked was Modern Day Delilah but I appreciate your opinions and the fact you aren't prepared to dribble over everything Kiss produce.
8:31 Threw me off how the 3 intro chords are identified to say yeah! They could have been more original...
I actually don't mind Sonic Boom, I like it better than Unmasked, The Elder, and Crazy Nights...personal preferences, to each his own, my friend. I personally would love to see more Hanoi Rocks rankings, review's etc..A kick ass band that never got it's due or the respect of the influence it had on so many bands in the 1980's. Thanks!
Thanks for saying so! And thanks for watching!
I'm sure I will be talking about the other Hanoi Rocks albums, etc. at some point!
Just might not get the views you need, covering Hanoi Rocks. Part of the disrespect. What did you think of the mix just released for Oriental Beat that Michael Monroe said the band preferred over the initial release?
@@mphillips4263 I haven't heard it yet, actually. But thank you for the reminder.
I have never based my videos on how many views they're going to get. I just do my thing and let all that take care of itself. Lol
the album is overall good. Was nice to get a new studio album and Modern Day Dalilah is awesome. Plus Thayer finally gets to do a studio album so he's no longer the understudy. My criticism for the album is, all the songs are paint by numbers and Eric doesn't show off how great he really is on the drums. He's held back.
As for the redone classics, they made the same mistake as they did for Smashes Thrashes and Hits. They didn't give us the modernized version but did their best to remake the 70s version. Why do that? They should have given Thayer and Singer card blanche to put their high quality sound on it while pumping up the tempo a little since they now know how to play these songs in their sleep and don't need to focus on the right notes.
Oh god, you had me cracking up so much with this video. I've never had any interest in Paul Stanley's Kiss, (as they're referred to in this part of the world), for the very resaons you mention in this video. I have heard a couple of songs from the album but don't recall which ones and don't really care. To me it's like trying to re-write history, but it just dosn't work. However, I do accept that most of the so called fans of this version of Kiss are of a different generation and they don't really know or care about the real Kiss, and perhaps that's as it should be. By the way, are the Kiss Classics actaully re-recorded versions of the old songs? I'm assuming so based on what you said and your reaction to it. So funny.
YES, they actually went into a studio and re-recorded each of them (with Tommy and Eric, I assume).
It was the first "album" the new official lineup recorded together and was originally available only in Japan. They'd apparently re-recorded those songs to allow them to use in films and/or TV commercials without Universal being able to lay claim to any of the money they would have been due had the original versions been used instead.
Of course, it also had the effect of unceremoniously stripping yet another classic memory from the older fans - with Singer's vocal replacement of the Peter Criss vocals on Black Diamond.
Yes I Know is not only the only really great song on the album, it's one of the best KISS songs ever.
😳
ya im not huge on Fake Frehley and Cat Man Doo but your right they are just doing the gig and are doing what paul and gene want them to do if it wasent them im sure there would be 2 others in that spot at the point they decided to do this they should of scrapped the makeup and clown costumes and gone back to non make up then this current line up may have gained an ounce of respect
Absolutely agree 👍
I've said that for twenty years
"Modern day Delilah" is the best song on this less than mediocre album but it would have been Paul´s second liners like "I´m alive", "When your walls come down" or "Gimme more" on other cds. Poor, very poor!
More Reviews and Rankings would be cool.
But from here and than. I'd always like to hear something about Kiss too. I think you could be my favorite Kiss RUclipsr
The problem with them re-recording the Classics is the way the did it! They tried to imitate the originals. If they would have played them the way they do live they'd be great! Faster tempo heavier vocals. But because they tried to imitate the originals they sound terrible.
I agree100% . That's what BK did when he played the classics. Stayed true to the songs but updated it with a sense of BK style
Although I wasn't a big kiss fan Gene Simmons was and still is a financial genius. Credit where credit is deserved.
I was trying to eat while I watched this, thanks for all the shit.
I honestly haven't heard this album all the way through. I don't remember what portions I have heard. Nothing said here makes me want to hear it but someday I'll probably about have to play it once just to say I did.
Also - the first single from this was released on someone you know and respect very much's birthday.
Hahaha! Sorry about your dinner.
What did you have for dinner?
Wait... birthday? Who?? I can't figure out who I know AND respect. Hahaha
It’s a good thing Paul’s dad invented 2000 Flushes with all the 💩 flying around this one ! Great review and pretty much mirrors my take on this.
How ‘bout a vid on “ranking” all the official members of KISS by ‘report card’ grade(excluding the ghost players. No Anton Fig, etc.)?
Hmmm...
Thanks for putting Modern Day Delilah in the background. That, to me, is the strongest track on the disc. Nothing else on disc comes close. The solo by Tommy Thayer is amazing on Delilah. Danger Us is about the most ridiculous awful 😞 title to a KISS song Bang You. 11 years between albums and that was the best they could come up with. Holy Sonic 🤮🤢. The guys did save the best for last - on this album. Give Tommy a chance to shine live though. 🤷 I'm not sure why he couldn't have sung When Lightning Strikes. Say Yeah is annoying because of the call and response - Say Yeah - 3x again. Oh well.
I hate this Kiss lineup but I like Sonic Boom. Songs I like. Modern Day Delilah, Russian Roulette, Never Enough, Stand, Danger US, I'm an Animal and When Lightning Strikes and Say Yeah.
Gene Simmons,Paul Stanley, Cheater Criss and Fake Frehley.
Love your take on Sonic Poo!! Hit the turd on the head man!! So Cringy. "Would you like fries with that Crap Sub??"
G.S. every one of his demos were left overs from 1985
You should review all the solo albums from Kiss members.
Modern Day, I’m an animal and say yeah r really good! Hot and cold is tolerable! Everything else is pretty forgetful
"It's Creatures meets Destroyer". Ha!!!!! It's diarrhea meets constipation
😆 YES!
The album is actually pretty damn good just some songs gene sings abt sex too much
Gene?? Sex??? No way! 🤣
@@HARDROCKreverie haha fair
@@CalebMartin69 thanks for watching!
Would you consider making a Black Sabbath discography review? I guess I saw you wearing one of their tshirts on one of the videos. Not exactly hard rock, but I think It would be an interesting series of videos. There's a lot to talk about Sabbath's albums
Might. I basically stopped with the Sabbath albums after Born Again, then skipped ahead to Dehumanizer, so I'd have to take some time to study up on the Tony Martin stuff, etc., which I really don't know that I want to do. Lol. But maybe 🤔
@@HARDROCKreverie eh, Tony Martin era really isn't as great as some people say sometimes, definetely a low point, but It also isn't awful. It's just a bit boring imo. Iommi wasn't too inspired at that time. However any of those albums are better than Born Again at least hahah
@@thales6790 Haha 😆! I LOVE Born Again!!
@@HARDROCKreverie hahaha I wish I did... and I tried! Not for me unfortunately
@@thales6790 I get that. Lots of people agree more with you than me on that one 😂
I agree on having the real Ace Frehley on the classic remake but not Peter. Pete wasn't even on a lot of the original albums and really can't play well
"A lot"? Like before Alive II?
Dude. Peter was a great drummer.
@@HARDROCKreverie I agree Peter was excellent in the early days but over time declined in my opinion. It's quite obvious when you see his live performances after 78'
@@amazingcaucasian4679 I do agree with that.
I love this record 🎉❤
Got about 3 songs into it and turned it off and threw it in the bin
Yep.
As they went retro they lost me as a fan. That was even worse than them becoming a "grunge underground band". I haven´t yet listened to this album. I have already lost an hour on "Monster". -- But anyway, true fans will buy anything. Signed guitar picks for 1,000 bucks a piece anyone?
I bought this album because of Modern Day Delilah and mainly because it was cheap. I agree with you, only 1st and last songs are really the good ones. Thank God I didn't buy Monster.
You got me curious about the 'klassics' cd. I listened to the rock & roll all night. Geez louise it was wretched! Sounds like Kidz-bop.
.. ..And i cannot imagine how the same artist that created the R&RO album cover also created the lame sonic boom cover.
Yes sir. It's a mystery wrapped in an enigma inside a puzzle. Lol
@@HARDROCKreverie i saw an interview with Doret where he said Paul Stanley insisted on photographic treatments of the band as opposed to Doret's interpretation of the band like on R&RO. Paul supposedly had a lot more creative control over Doret's design. im not trying to rag on paul- he's one of my favorite musicians
@@freedo333 well, whatever happened, it's a real shame.
HRR, I understand your feelings over all, but don't support it 100%. First, music is rated per person differently and subject to taste, so that being said on a couple of the songs on Sonic Boom you gave a low score on should be higher to me and a couple you ranked higher should be lower. I agree that Sonic Boom and Say Yeah get 5 star.I don't think the album is complete shut as you call it. The Classics cd I feel they just wanted to record them with Eric and Tommy. To me it was kind of cool to hear a better recorded version of Hotter than Hell tbh. My take is you could take the better songs from Sonic Boom and Monster and have a Damn good Kiss album. I do share the true Kiss is the original 4 guys however over the 11 or 12 line up changes they have stood the test of time. If you don't like Sinic Boom or the line up, then don't listen or go see them. I'm a die hard fan still through the changes whether I agree with it or not. Also, about original members; does that mean that if you're a Rush fan, do you say after the first album they suck and that it should be the original drummer still with them ? NO.LOL Remember Neil Peart isn't the original drummer. Just throwing that out there.
Sonic Bomb
My least favorite album. I only could listen to it once then never played it again
Yep. I tried, I really tried, but beyond a couple of songs, I just couldn't enjoy it.
Modern Day Delilah is pretty good, I gotta say... but it's no single. In a perfect KISS world, it should be just another good song on the album, but this album SUCKS, and by default it became the single
I deleted your other comment. Don't bring that shit here again.
Metallica Discography ranking
There material sounds like a garage band of the 70's , and never progressed ergo , I stopped following after dynasty, they have a great live show , but I'm sorry musically , there are much more memorable bands , especially now , it's just a touring cash grab , is not kiss ,the tribute bands are more worth watching than two senior citizens and a couple of actors ,who can play , are regulated to impersonate original membership
Its Just not KISS ....I've spun them and they're not my cup of tea at allllll
Like what your doing with the kiss albums. With Sonic Boom, I think you missed it completely. All for the glory was the best song by far. Sounded like kiss until tommy blew the solo half way thru. Ace seems to be a little sloppy in his solos. Why would such a good guitar player (Tommy Thayer according to Paul) play sloppy. We all know why. Cover band now. This album is complete crap. With this kind of music, the KISS ARMY is gone, but the PISS ARM marches on. Hope they enjoy their shit buger. They earned it
Not sure how I "missed it completely" - pretty sure I also said "this album was complete crap. 😆
And yeah, we all know exactly why they were doing what they were doing. What a shame. 😞
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I never liked this album.
Horrible album. I don’t get the love from anyone for “Modern Day Delilah.” A plodding, uninspired, repetitive waste of time.
