That capt of that flat bottom fire boat has got some skill keeping it steady like that, thats not easy task to stay in that one spot with a sideways current.
I grew up in Oceanside in the 60s and this is sad to see. I spent countless mornings days and nights on that pier just gazing out at the ocean and thinking. On the post 80’s pier, I know exactly which part of that building I was sitting in when I would have my coffee and apple pie. 😢
I learned how to swim under this pier in the 60s as well. I sure miss the good ol days
I thought this was the newer pier? I thought the older one was taken away by a hurricane in the 80s.
If its the older one I grew up swimming all around it and under it too. 😊 So Sorry to see it go. 😢
@@darlawhite3669 It's been there since 1888. i'm sure it's had several fires in this time and survived

Cool, I lived there in the 80's and I lived on The Strand Street in the 90's, the whole tri city area is cool, even Vista 😎

This could very well be a sign of bad days ahead, businesses are getting squeezed so hard, now the consumers can’t afford to show up. If things don’t turn around by next year, expect a fire to all things you relied upon in the past. Save your money, pay off credit cards, invest, don’t get caught high & dry, it’s like a 2008 rerun.

I would not be surprised if it were arson because of the skyrocketing insurance and property taxes.
I would. Property tax rates California are about half that of Texas, for example, and the annual increase is capped at about 2%. In Texas it's a 10% cap.
Now that you mention it, Texas *has* had a lot of fires lately. Hmmm...

@@marcmcreynolds2827 With all the fee's fines and costly regulations in newsum land that make operations so costly and difficult. Cali has a 1% tax rate vs 1.6% in Texas, but lets not forget sales tax rates of 6.25% in Texas vs as much as 10.25% in Cali. That sales tax brings in a whole lot of money .
Yes bbecause there's literally money to be made in Cali. Companies that do well won't complain for a 4 % difference for a higher overall revenue.@@JoeFlation
@@JoeFlation There's probably a 0% rate in Hell, but that doesn't make me want to live there. And Texas without air conditioning comes darn close, to within that the humidity in Hell is likely somewhat lower.

Fires under piers are almost impossible to knock because of the creosote soaked wood. Once it gets going, it will burn all the way...

Interesting that the smoke what's coming from underneath the pier before any visible flames inside the building itself
Where are the fire boats? The boats spraying water are not fire boats.
Fireboats are stationed in harbors. They're probably on the way from San Diego and the Port of Los Angeles.

All the gift shops and cafes and workers gone . Many years ago I walked out on the pier when I was working at USMC Pennelton for USAFR.

Seems like a deluge fire system could use seawater to protect the structure
being in san diego area there has to be a larger firehose ship somewhere close. Get water on top and it will put out the pier fire as well. They are use hose ships designed for boat to boat. I guess they are focusing on saving the pier and not the structure.
I don't see anyone out on the ledge did it have patrons?
Where are the air supports to put it out from above? They aren't even close the flames.

How much money is spent along that ocean front line but not much on firefighting water crafts and noticed how not even the coast guards water couldn’t make it up to the burning structure !?
But the housing community along the beaches have awesome street cleaning vehicles.
It looks like the Stone Age for the fire department, they need to update their equipment.
Oceanside has a very good fire department.

That's all Folks! It will be shut down with no money to repair. Hope everyone enjoyed the last walk or meal on the pier. Ocean Beach is next. The winter waves thrashed it closed. Probably for good.
