I started experimenting this in December out of curiosity. I love using DCs as leave-ins, especially for protective styles. No one can really say why a DC shouldn’t be used as a leave-in-all the articles about it just talk about hydral fatigue, meaning they’re assuming your hair is wet for an extended period of time. That’s not the same as applying it as a leave-in allowing your hair dry into a style. Also DCs are often over-applied with the expectation that it’ll be rinsed back out. If applied lightly (like a leave-in/styler) DCs don’t weigh the hair down either. Been doing it for 7 weeks with 0 issues. I clarify every week.
Same here! I also alternate between using moisture deep conditioner and protein deep conditioner as a leave in. I have high porosity hair that's why I do it that way. It keeps my hair balanced (I also clarify weekly)
😃 This is so me, all I use is a deep conditioner, no rinse out and no leave in conditioner and my hair has been thriving. But seeing these articles online and see RUclipsrs that I follow using leaving and rinse out got me so worried thinking I'd been doing it wrong. God bless y'all, thank God for the relief ☺️
Welp all in all I think ‘using deep conditioner as a leave-in’ needs some clarification. Especially if we’re gonna have products out here that being marketed that way now (i.e. 3-in-1 conditioners). I think ‘hygral fatigue’ needs to be its own separate conversation, especially since it’s more of an unexplained myth, than an all out risk. Now if there are ingredients commonly in deep conditioners that shouldn’t be left in the hair, then that needs to be specified. Although I’m doubtful of that as well, considering there are some major conditioning alcohols (like btms) that are used just as consistently in leave-ins and stylers as they are in deep conditioners.
@@denyshadials5702 thank you very much. I make my own deep conditioner so I know all that it contains. I also wash weekly, guess that's why I haven't had any issues
This is why Achia is one of the dopest natural hair influencers on YT.💯 Some youtubers who have a larger platform acted soooooo scared to try using a deep conditioner as a leave in. Sometimes they try things and they act like their hair is going to fall out. Here Achia is like: THIS AIN'T NUTHING BUT A CHICKEN WING! *I LOVE this woman😄💯♥️* BTW... That Camille Rose cholesterol DC is soooooo good. Holy grail status for me🙌🏾
Girl thanks for this video. I'm a product junkie and one of my favorite things to buy is a deep conditioner. You never cease to amaze me with how much you know about natural hair. Very informative. Just want you to know you're appreciated and again thanks for this video😊
I'm type 3b/3c mixed porosity (highlights) hair, and I've used rinse out conditioners as leave-in for years. Especially if I ran out of a favorite marketed leave-in I had, I just use any of the rinse-outs that as leave-in and they work great for a moisturizer. Thin conditioners as well as thick ones have both worked.
Aria Len there is a girl on Instagram who only uses conditioner as a leave in and then tops with eco styler. He hair is very long her ig is curlsbythepound I think!!
I used Nubian Heritage Olive oil & Moringa as a twisting butter for years! My sister just pointed out to me this summer 2019 that it said it was a deep conditioner. And now I love it for both!
Tressemme Boutique Coconut Milk and Aloe Vera conditioner ❣ I have used it as a prepoo, rinse out, Deep Conditioner, and leave in. All with awesome results!!!
Same here! I got mines on Tuesday. The pump already was broken, I could still use it tho. But the strawberry lollipop she put in the box kinda made up for it lol
You have such good content; I appreciate your comparisons because everyone cannot spend coins on luxury products. I love my Adwoa Beauty, Camille Rose, TGIN, Mielle, etc...but sometimes you just want a good inexpensive large size, Equate Coconut Milk, Conditioner to detangle/prepoo without breaking the bank. Keep the good content coming --LOVE IT!!!
I've been natural for 3 years now, and I've not tried too many, but my fav is the mane choice soft as can be 3 in one. Nothing else I've tried even comes close. I can detangle, soften, use as rinse out and if I'm light handed, a leave in. I just wish I got more than 2 uses out of it 😩
You ain’t neva lied girl 😌🙌 I use the CR Moroccan Pear custard as a DC/leave-in bc first of all the price 👀😳 & then I read the ingredients. I thought I ain’t *NO WAY* I’m letting all dis goodness go down the drain 😂 & truly my hair loves it! A word of caution tho: when I do this I’m light-handed during application. Also I only use my faves *PRICEY* silicone & protein free conditioners to avoid build up & protein overload.
I’ve been using dc as leave in for many years. Started accidentally because I didn’t pay attention to the product label and liked how my hair felt and looked. That got me to start comparing ingredients and discovering that they were similar enough to use interchangeably. I’ve used the Susve Coconut for everything except a leave in. Will experiment on my daughter’s hair next wash.
I've been planning on trying the mielle mongongo deep conditioner as a leave in. I already did my research and I'm sure my hair would be fine. Now I'm encouraged.

SOLID ANSWERS! YES! FINALLY! Thank you for thoroughly addressing this! This clarified sooooo many of my concerns with product usage. One question - you mentioned that you like the Melanin leave-in for detangling, rinse-out conditioning, & leave-in conditioning. I believe it's also marketed as being useful as a deep conditioner. Seeing how light it is, do you draw the line at that point or do you agree that (while it may not be the goat in that category) it is also a good product for deep conditioning?
Hey Achia! 👋🏽 Great video as usual. You stay dropping gems! I LOOOVE that Suave conditioner you suggest. It's so good yet so CHEAP 🤣 👐🏾👐🏾👐🏾 And yes, I also like it better than some deep conditioners I have paid 5x the price for. I find it hard to even consider other expensive products when I know I can just Suave it up and my curls will be hydrated and clumped. I've even left it in as my only styler and my curls were shiny and defined. Thank you for all you do!! I appreciate your voice here in these RUclips/Instagram streets 🤣👍🏼❤️👍🏼❤️👍🏼❤️

👏🏾 Again with a great video, just gotta love her. I buy rinse out conditioners and use them as a prepoo, detangler, leave-in and even as a deep conditioner (with added oils, honey, Ayurvedic powders, and/or hydrolized liquid protein if needed) Suave, Tresemme, V05, Garnier Whole Blends...they are cheap but so good if on a budget and not wanting to splurge.

Good video! I have an issue with hair products being marketed as "co-wash/leave-in/detangler/rinse outs" all-in-one. The last three are understandable, but how can a product "co-wash", implying it is at least somewhat cleansing the hair, and still be able to be left in the hair as a leave-in? Cleansing the hair and leaving the same product in for days before rinsing seems like an oxymoron lol
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 this right here, that’s why I steer away from multi purpose products. I’m sure for some people it’s good but I just can’t do it. It’s either a rinse out product or leave in.
