Jimmy, as an rs3 player who really does love the game and hates treasure hunter, I greatly appreciate you lending our community your voice. Truly, thank you.
Yup, same here, I love this game, I have a maxed main that is close to comp cape and an ironman with most skills in the high 90's but I unsubbed earlier this year cause I just couldn't do it anymore, despite all the time and effort I have put into my accounts I would jump on true fresh start worlds without mtx in a heartbeat.
I have well over 500 hrs in my RS3 HCIM, while that isn't alot to some players, between working 50+ hrs a week and raising a family it's alot for me. I love the game and think the combat mechanics are incredibly well put together, between being able to click monster get drop, to optimising timings between basic abilities and thresholds to squeeze the maximum dps, all within the same system is a real feat, and it rewards new players and experienced players alike. I've earned mid 80's to a couple of 99's and am proud of my accounts progression! With that said, I would be lying if I said that the idea of a fresh start world where achievements are more impressive didn't give me a tinge of excitement.
100% if permanent, fresh start worlds were added with no MTX, I would play. These worlds would also help the developers learn which parts of RS3 as a game can be improved, because more players would be engaging with those systems and comment on any pain points.
I got the new survey the other day, and in this new survey they did actual ask a question regarding fresh worlds with no MXT, so it's for sure something on their mind. as a on and off RS3 player, I would also drop my 1 maxed account, 1 completionist account to play on the fresh worlds. I doubt I'd put 10's of thousands of hours into them like I did for my comp cape account, but all the same, I think I'd enjoy it more.
The rs3 team is inept and lost any semblance of what runescape is. With that said it can be steered in a better direction but it as a game should probably be cut if I'm being honest. Its been so ran through by so many companies and managers and plagued with bad update with zero fixes on older bad updates and dead content. Its not feasible. Shift everything to old school.
No way that could fracture the RS3 user base like that. Sounds fun to you but it leads to 2 versions of RS3 that are even closer to unsustainable death
I understand its very expensive to run two mmos, let alone one but you got to wonder if this is what its about Lol of course it isnt. The stockmarket will never allow it
@@TheVideoViper They can't be the same person. J1mmy wears a santa hat and avas accumulator with a bow and fancy boots. J1mbo is a real man that happens to feature in a lot of J1mmy videos. There has gotta be a picture of J1mmy and J1mbo in the same picture somewhere on the internet. Otherwise, it might just be J1mbo and By Release, and Gary Gilbert.
This is an incredible video. For context, I'm a former RS3 player who's basically finished the game. I've gotten 120s, I've gotten the comp cape, the master quest cape, and basically finished the game. I then started an ironman and also played that. I probably have around 20k hours in the game across all my accounts, and I had quit with no intention of coming back last year. A new skill didn't entice me, any new boss or feature didn't entice me, the only thing that has enticed me is the thought of fresh servers. I made a point to never spend money on the game (outside of memberships), but in exchange I spent thousands of hours. And I love so much about RS3 and do think it's such an amazing game with incredible lore, a great community, and the right amount of grinding, but only if you avoid treasure hunter, and that right there is the ugly truth about the game. They've made any accomplishment mean nothing, which is why I gravitated towards the completionist mindset, it was the only way I could get any enjoyment out of the game. I don't know if I'll ever come back to the game, runescape used to be such a huge part of my life but I feel like I've moved on, but who knows. Fresh servers with no treasure hunter, no dailyscape, and no fomo sounds like the best iteration of this game that I loved as a kid, and I hope they make that change for the betterment of the longevity of the game and for the playerbase that has stuck around through all this shit. I would hate to see a youtube video down the line titled "Jagex Shuts Down Runescape 3 Servers", I think it would be such a shame for a game that has been so influential in many of our lives.
I did the treasure hunter thing on my osrs acc that was linked to it till it got hacked and banned. Didnt play rs3 more than like 3 months and got bored. Tried again without doing TH (apart from quest rewarded keys) and it still makes it a bit too easy/boring. They should really remove it and the game would be awesome imo.
@@mikewazowski9953why are you even watching this video if you don’t like anything involved with it. Sounds like you just want to be angry at someone or something. Move on man.
To be fair, it is 524 free keys by just doing quests and none of the dailies. So, normal gameplay will get you several hundred keys. And depending on how you look at it, That may be generous, or it may be trying to solidify the addiction over a long period of time.
Drug dealer tactic? Ain't no drug dealer ever give out their product for free lmao. I spent my whole life waiting for someone to offer me free drugs like they told me would happen in the DARE videos. Never happened once. I got ripped off for drugs dozens of times, which is terrible customer service and incentivizes you NOT to return, but I'd be hitting them up the next week, ready to get ripped off again.
I'd never pay for keys in RS3. Have you seen our player avatar there? It's ugly af and looks like something from 2005 while the surrounding graphics are beautiful and new npcs even look better than your own character! Ive maxed my RS3, even in top3 3k in several skills, but ive moved on to osrs.
The audacity from the last survey to see how much more people would be willing to pay to remove MTX, only to then raise prices and keep MTX. The community has no faith.
There's 2 possible ways to look at it. Either they plan to remove Treasure Hunter and raise membership prices and simply went ahead with raising the price while they get ready to see how the getting rid of Treasure Hunter idea will work, or they posted the survey to get people's hopes up that there's gonna be less MTX in the future after they raise membership prices, when they in reality have no plans of getting rid of it anyways. If it's the former which might be the best case scenario, then they severely handled it in the worst way possible and really should have just been more patient and it's pure greed to dime the shit out of the players. If it's the latter, that's straight up deceptive and cowardly monetization practices. But whichever case it is, they really don't deserve any benefit of doubt until we actually get to see them put that membership money where their mouth is.
@@99sonder People pretended like inflation doesn't affect the video game industry. "hOw DaRe a VidYa gAMe bE moAr ThAn 60 bucks". Being upset that sub prices might increase is straight retarded. Being mad about MTX is completely within reason.

i maxed a character in RS3 before they added archaeology and necromancy, if only because my character was created in 2003 and is old enough to get married, drink booze, and go to war and die (in that order), and the experience just progressively got worse and worse and worse. The final straw for me was after I got 200mil firemaking xp, on a double xp weekend, just to say that I had gotten 200mil in something at least once. After I did that I felt completely hollow... what was the point? What did it amount to? What enjoyment or pride could I derive from this account? Literally the only thing that made me happy about that account was its longevity and untradable scythe drop from the 2003 halloween event. I was reluctant to start over from scratch on OSRS, but there was no other option left. I made an ironman on OSRS, got it to base 80s and then figured I might as well just use my OG account and level that one up as well, unrestricted. I'm almost base 70s on that account, with a couple 99s. The grind has been real, but it has also been rewarding. I find myself giving a shit and wanting to log on, to get the herb sack, to imbue my slayer helmet, to go down a wild chain of seemingly random tasks that makes my overarching goal easier, because gaining xp requires actual effort - and in taking this journey I am exposed to so much of the game, even the shitty parts like Fishing Trawler means something because now that I have my Angler Outfit I can be satisfied in knowing that I don't have to do that crap minigame ever again. Can't see RS3 ever recovering unless they do a hard reset, delete MTX, make basic features like xp/hour free for everyone, and allow players to influence the game in a meaningful and healthy way. But because of the lack of transparency, I'm also wondering if they can even do this and not go bankrupt, or have to fire half of their staff. Will be interesting to see how this progresses.
xp is only a small percentage of the game though, there is plenty in rs3 that takes real dedication. Infact you could probably make the argument that it is good to have fast xp rates since most of the game is based around endgame anyways. Go for mqc or something if you want a challenge. I feel like rs3 has mostly lost the veneration of xp anyways unless its a 120 all, its all about achievements now. Tbh i think you are just seeing things with rose tinted glasses as you are having a new experience, were you to be a vet of osrs switching to rs3 and could look past mtx you would probably have the same feeling. About the hard reset, were they to do this i feel it would kill the game. I have 28k runescore and am 10 achievements from trim, no way im grinding that again. Ill go to gw2 or something instead. And a game that is mainly veteran players i bet a lot will think the same. Then revenue from rs3 is cut drasticaly, and mtx infects osrs. Everyone says they'll leave, but the sunken cost fallacy exists and most wont. Mtx wont go away fully, it just aint gonna happen, maybe if the gower brothers were in charge. It could go cosmetic only which i actually wouldn't mind. But here's the thing you could just ignore it? Theres always that little x you can click. Yea people can buy keys for gp and xp but th p2w scale is kinda negligible when you compare it to a bond. The revenue for th could really help the game if it was used properly which i think is a better discussion than just getting rid of it. And about letting players help decide future rs3 content idk...i'd have to see the system i guess. I feel like osrs poll thing is great for player trust but you probably miss out on a lot of great updates because of it. After all democracy is two wolves deciding how to have the sheep for dinner as they say.
You wouldn't have to restart. They're not going to delete your garbage free infinite XP server. Itd just be a new world for the people that would like to enjoy the true RuneScape experience. Any idea why way more people are playing old school? Hello?

The future should have been RS4, and I have been saying that for many years. Get rid of all the legacy stuff, clean up the spaghetti code, abandon RuneScript and RuneTek7 (it is 10+ year old now ffs), reduce the .6s ticks, update the tile grid system, rework and expand the map size, get rid of the dead content, update the world with a consistent graphics style in mind etc. In short, clean up the trash of the past 25 years RS accumulated. Learn from the mistakes of the past while still keeping what works. If Jigglyflex started working on RS4 when the cracks started to seriously appear in RS3 (this what somewhere near 2016-17ish) we would have a modern, smooth running RS4 now. But no, they choose to be the meme dog in the burning house saying "this is fine". The harsh reality is that unlike OSRS, RS3 did not age well. The game is so outdated on nearly all fronts, that it is unsalvageable for the new generation of gamers, little to no new blood enters the game, while the veteran players who make up the overwhelming majority of RS3 player slowly but surely shrink as the years creep by.This is what I call a 'zombie' game at this state, and these games never truly 'die', they just exist in a near-perpetual state of undead. It may be many years, if not decades when RS3 truly dies. So my advice for Jamflex is the same: Keep supporting RS3 while working on RS4, and when it is out, put RS3 on life support or leave it with a skeleton crew. There is no future for RS3.
@@matthew5226 Exactly. RS3 needs a massive cleanup, and it can only be done if they rebuild RS3 from the ground up on a modern engine. It'd be perfectly doable in 4-5 years.
The irony of saying it didn't end well when RS3 actually has challenging and interesting boss and mob mechanics whereas OSRS has the same dumb click and avoid features it had 20 years ago. Absolutely minimal innovation but people still clammer for it proves that its two different player bases interested in two different games.
i really don't think a rs4 would benefit the game. it would be nearly identical to other games. even the low tickrate is arguably a unique feature; it basically turns the game into a rhythm game
Yep. Your point at 37:20 is SPOT ON. Man I wish they could share financials so we could understand what the reality is. It's also not just a question of raising prices, it's a question of how many more people would play (and buy membership) if they removed MTX. Those three financial buckets have to be balanced to maximize rev.
It's private equity owned, good luck. Also look up private equity, they just sell businesses to each other every ten years. Have fun in the finance rabbit hole!

OSRS was basically just a full wipe without MTX. If anything, its a good indication that it could actually work.
it certainly wasn't, it was a 2007 bckup released feb 2013, so it was also a wipe of a lot of bad content up to 2013 (including MTX and EoC which many players also disliked)

@@nikesshoes2011 The saddest part is that they were genuinely trying to improve on some of the key issues old combat system had, and make the game better. I've played this game for the better part of my life. Iirc my account is now about 18 years old. My character could be considered an adult. I've gained billions of xp across many accounts, made for fun or challenge. At one point I owned completionist cape and master quest cape, some of the grindiest achievements in the game. I've been an active part of the community, as well as multiple sub-communities such as ironmen, hcim, skillers, fashionscapers, and at one point also pvmers. I've seen this game evolve. I've given it chance after chance, always trying to see the bright side, always trying to trust Jagex to take care of my childhood fav. In the past few years, the mtx, the grindy playstyle, and modern 'if I can't afk it, I don't want it' mindset, it being more and more rare to do random things and see other players in random locations, and CONNECT with them, have slowly eaten away any and all desire to play the game. FSW was a breath of fresh air, but was handled so poorly that it never returned. I've taken breaks and even 'quit' a few times, but this year, I strongly believe, was my final year on RS3, and maybe all of RS. Sad to say that I probably will never return, no matter what they do, other than to perhaps just chat for a day and fuck around. All the love, J1mmy, and to the rest of the community.
I remember when OSRS came out and I didn't switch over because I didn't want to start over. Fast forward a few years and I started noticing how OSRS was doing and it made me want to try it out, even if I had to start over and it was awesome! People will hessitate starting over, but if done right it can 100% be the right choice and work for the better! Even so, there is a LOT that would have to be done, also behind the curtains, to make RS3 a compelling modern MMO, mechanically speaking. It is FAR from a uniform game in style, many systems are very dated and it's such a spaghetti-fied game that it often times seems like it will collapse under its own weight. For example, you are wondering why RS3 allows for construction training outside of POH? It's because they've mentioned on live streams that reworking the POH and construction as a skill would be a project that would take a dedicated dev team upwards of 3 years to complete from inventarising all the systems that tie into it up until release. RS3 has potential, but I am not sure it is within the bounds of reason for a company with a profit motive to make the necessary steps to revive it.
Yeah, apparently the RS3 POH system doesn't even allow you to rearrange your room locations and such whenever you want, you're simply locked in whenever you buy a new room unless you completely delete it. I heard that it was Mod Ash who, in a labor of love, rehauled the entire POH system for us in OSRS, making it amazing.
@@masterofthecontinuum From the little I know of OSRS what is different in the POH that isn't already in RS3 but different items/area. There's Wars Retreat, different teleport items through Invention.

@@Andrigo33 Besides being the best xp per hour training spot, nothing. That's exactly what my point is. What could possibly be done to make the PoH useful in RS3. I asked what does OSRS have the RS3 doesn't?
It is a really sorry state of the game to need to play ironman for it to feel rewarding. I will say though, after playing both an RS3 maxed main, and OSRS iron, and an RS3 iron, RS3 iron is my favorite RS game to play.
Personally I don't want to restart all my progress on an ironman account again so I never bothered. I do see the appeal in ironman, but I don't think it's for me.
It's also hard to get support and discussions going as Iron men, because numb-skulls chime in saying "YoU cHoSe tO LiMiT YoUrSeLf". And it's like yeah I did, but Jagex provides the game mode, and I pay for it. It's not like I created my own limiting game mode and am complaining about it. I'm just playing what Jagex provided me with, and I am reporting on issues that I see with certain points where things are really hard to sustain and maybe need a look at balancing.
@@DK_Son This. Mod Kieren is extremely guilty of this and he's an effing moron for it. Not wanting to participate in an economy where everything I do turns into GP, is not the same as wanting the game to be masochistic.
Same for me it goes RS3 Iron>OSRS main it's the two styles i play funded by my RS3 pvm dupes. Also with a caveat for Leagues those are nice and I'll return to them this november.
I was also contacted to participate in the September 27th survey, /because/ I haven't played the game since July of last year. My e-mail read: "We know you’ve not been playing on this character for a while, which is why we need your help. We’re exploring potential changes to our MTX offerings in RuneScape, from major shifts to improving what's already in place. As a player who’s not currently playing, we want to hear how these potential directions may affect you and maybe even change your interest in returning." Thought it might be interesting to note it's not /just/ the current active playerbase they're trying to reach.
Man yeah the email and survey they sent out is actually amazing and gives me so much hope. One of the questions was Would you play on a permanate Fresh start world with no mtx, essentially and or just what items would you want removed, in priority such as EXP Lamps vs double exp or proteins vs other items. Preach it tho, Fresh start world during the competitive weeks was amazing, no mtx, just grind.
I think, of all those. Double XP isn't the problem. Double XP without MTX / Proteans / Lamps / Other xp increases, is fine. It just amounts to players focusing on xp grinds when it's up. The other MTX stuff is the problem.
@@Tekshipie Spend double XP is completely fine and honestly I think osrs would be fine with it too if everybody could Stop acting like it's making the game incredibly easy and it was hard for them so it needs to be hard for everybody else which by the way I do agree within some context but not with a double EXP context I think that as a whole would be a good idea
I'm not hopeful. Even if they did the most extreme measure and decided to just cut all MTX from the game, what's left? A messy, poorly balanced game full of dead content that's been badly managed for over a decade. You can't just undo over a decade's worth of the game's design and economy being skewed and inflated by MTX, power creep and the code of intern devs that went through the revolving door that is Jagex. If they have any hope of coming close to the OSRS playerbase they need to do a lot more than fix microtransactions and I don't think they have the team, the interest or the funds to do it. It's just not worth it for Jagex to do and that's all that matters to the higher ups.
As an extremely enfranchised OSRS player (snowflake ironman series and all), I would play the SHIT out of fresh RS3 worlds with no MTX and improved progression. I'm the guy you were talking about getting 99s in 2010, and I feel pain for the game we never got because of MTX. Hit the button, Jagex, become the hero of this story.
@@Kaihegon I will answer this question for him as I'm maxed on rs3. They have added dyes, new santas and h'ween mask through MTX. I got 99 dung from lamps and I'm almost 120 dung from lamps. Get this I didn't even have the buy the lamps. One might say "don't use them"... Why wouldn't I use them if they throw them at me? My biggest complaint is the tradable items you get through MTX. They could add all of these things to clues, boss loot, etc. However, I will add this. Both OSRS and RS3 have an issue outside of MTX and that's the ability to sell bonds on the GE. So MTX isn't completely the issue. Considering that most skills are buyable via the GE having the ability to buy bonds with IRL money and sell it for gold in game is just as bad as buying lamps from MTX.
Great video J1mmy! As an oldschool player I have absolutely no idea what’s going on here and have completely checked out of rs3. But would like to invite the Rs3 community to come over to OSRS. Maybe jagex would finally fix rs3 if its abandoned
15:00 I’m a relatively casual RS3 player. I saved up for a bond because I wanted the xp tracker. It did not clearly state that it was monthly. I got it, and after a month it went away. I contacted support thinking it was a bug to be told it was a subscription. Mind you, I’m a member. Have been for years. I was livid.
When I heard about what that system offered, I was baffled. I click the button on the side of Runelite to tell me all of that. Exp gained. Amount of actions required until level. Amount of xp/hour. Loot received. There are calculators to help you see how much you need to level and everything.
@@randomwannab118something you seem to be ignoring is that runelite isnt developed by jagex. If jagex decided to outright ban runelite tomorrow all of these amazing features you claim to get compared to rs3 go away. Jagex isnt giving osrs any of it.
Hi, thank you for sharing & lending your voice to the RS3 community. You made a lot of great points about the game that I agree with especially when it comes to MTX. However, I would like to give my own perspective as a RS3 player myself that has played Runescape for almost 19 years now. To get straight to the point, TH is a plague to the game and I think it needs to be removed because of its lootbox/gambling reasons. Just to give my perspective what type of player I am. When I started Runescape, I never once cared about the leaderboards because whoever started the game first or has more time to play will imo always have the advantage no matter what. I paid 0 attention to it, the value of it don't matter because it was always just about who has more time or started before me. I did quit just before the release of EOC(I had no idea it was even planned or existed) because the RS2 got extremely boring. Then RS3 came with cosmetics, MTX, the ability bar, lots of drastic changes. All of it was overwhelming at first but eventually I found enjoyment in the game. Especially the cosmetics. With this out the of the way, I want to touch on my own experiences with Treasure Hunter. Since its existence all the way until late 2022, the only thing I did with it is use my daily 1-3 keys that I get for free. Then Jagex started adding cosmetic overrides to them which caused me to engage in Treasure Hunter more and more in late 2022. I relied on using ingame GP to buy bonds or using oddments for keys and started doing the saving keys method in order to save for their next predatory FOMO cosmetic promo. As a fashionscaper, this is when I felt TH was at its worst state than it ever has been. It only slow down a tiny bit after the reveal of the roadmap this year. My biggest issue with this is the gambling/lootbox shenanigans. It felt like I was playing those Korean MMO with atrocious RNG rates. 40% to get a star instead of an outfit piece is very annoying. My opinion on what they can do at least is, delete TH, spend more time making cosmetics and sell them for runecoins in the Marketplace/Solomon's Store. With my opinion on MTX stated, I would like to touch on some of the points you have made. --> Sense of accomplishment of XP devalued by MTX Now granted I never had valued xp even before MTX, my opinion is going to be skewed here. I think the concept of sense of accomplishment XP is overvalued. Let's say $$ is removed then. If I was to visit an old MMO game where I spent months grinding to get level 30. Then in the future due to power creep, change, and state of the game, you can get to level 30 in 20 minutes now. Time already devalues XP IMO and Runescape is no exception to this. Whether that be wasting too much time(I've got responsibilities now, I don't see anything interesting about clicking the same thing again to gain xp) or the rates are too high. Actually given my state on TH, my levels were done more from afking too hard from one click skilling than anything TH has offered me. Either way, I don't level up for others, I do it for myself and that has more value than anything else. Even if MTX didn't exist in a perfect world, I could care less that you got 200M this way or that because again.. TIME. Bringing me to the next thing I will bring up. -> POH being useless because people just bankstand now for better xp rates RS3 is vastly different on how useful POH is compared to OSRS. Lodestones, run energy being less of a problem, faster xp rates to get teleport spells all contribute to this factor. If MTX is removed, POH would still be dead for construction XP. Construction is now more tied to what we now call Fort Forinthry which has more uses than POH as it provides benefits to enhance skilling's QOL. Construction from what I heard is mostly trained at the fort rather than breaking the same chair to build again. Only notable use for POH is Aquarium, statue, and repairing items. Do I wish POH had a more use? I wish.. it looked better and less clunky to work with. I would love a homestead replacing POH entirely rather than working on old spaghetti code. --> Bankstanding for XP Rates POH example out of the way, portables are extremely good because the alternatives suck. Either they make it so you can earn it ingame or add something alternative that doesn't suck. Most people will go for best xp rates or resource saving methods whenever they can. Disassociate MTX with this and you'd probably get people bankstanding at the same portable if portables were earnable without MTX. This is more of the nature of the game/side effect. --> MTX, PAY 2 WIN Even let's say you buy all your XP and max out, it's only going to get you so far. I already mentioned XP being devalued feels more like time than MTX. Unlike certain mobile korean mmo games, no matter how much you spend, you aren't having infinite incremental stat boosts. You aren't going to be stronger than player has the same gear. MTX can't buy collection logs, quest, comp cape, speedrun times, kill times, your actual skill in the game such as PVM(not levels). The game feels more like Pay to Skip than Pay to Win when it comes to the XP part. --> Fresh start NO MTX TBH, the damage is already done. It's a very risky thing to do. What you're doing is throwing away all the accomplishments not done by MTX of all the players that have worked their way there without any MTX? There's also the limited cosmetics people have unlocked since the very beginning of the game. You anger the existing players for potential new players/returning players? Except.. there's also a big problem. The new player experience with the terrible starting UI and being overwhelmed by too many things. Oh, slap MTX on top of it too. I logged into my very old pure str pvping account, and even as a Veteran player, my own UI still confused me. I tried to get back into some old MMOs but being overwhelmed by so many popups does way more damage. If this happens, I will not play it, I do not wish to spend time rebuilding from scratch because time is valuable resource. I don't think it will save the game if the starting player experience remains the way it is. It's a 20+ year old game now, there isn't really a clear cut solution to this. If anything, the best way is to delete TH and focus more on cosmetics will at least be a good starting point. If they want to bring new players, they need to solve some of the problems with the new player experience. How will they do it? I don't know.. These all the critical points I wanted to touch on that you mentioned. Again, thank you very much for sharing your thoughts on the surveys from the outside POV. I really wanted to add how they all come together as a RS3 player.
I don't know what they could possibly do with POH to make it more useful, everything it could've used is already on seperate parts of the game, they could use the POH as a social part of the game, where people just show off things they've done with statues and stuff, though socializing in Runescape and MMOs in this day and age is dead anyways, so that's never going to happen. Also i love your vids!!
@@boofhitter21 I think something like what Guild Wars 2 did with homestead would be cool. We can customize our homestead with decorations, placements. Have use like custom skilling nodes. (like uncharted isles but we can control it) Move the aquarium, statues, repair stuff over to homestead and remove POH. A place where we can have our pets wandering around. I know this already exists in POH but this can be expanded even more. Could even be Eastern land themed homestead if the new continent is Eastern Lands. So can include new skilling nodes from the new continent.
@@boofhitter21either way it needs an overhaul. Osrs housing looks better than rs3.. fort forinthry has more to offer than what a house would obviously, but it can still get some attention. Hell, maybe with certain high tier requirements even adding a GE in your poh. Or you could add a limited 2 skilling hubs into them. Add portals to things other than teleport locations, like the max guild has, or like wars retreat portals. With so much ease of access to everything none of these things would be OP
Unpopular opinion, fuck em, let them monetize the piss out of RS3 so old school stays the way it is. Don’t like it, play something else. I don’t know how you could have been playing rs3 after treasure hunter came out and not seen the writing in the wall. All the “I don’t like mtx at all” answers are just a filter, they’ll completely ignore those and throw them in the garbage. They’re only interested in the opinions of those who don’t actively hate the concept.
Honestly, RS3 has some great content. The progression is fun, stories are good, and it's different enough from OSRS that it's totally worth trying. New player experience sucks. MTX sucks. Both of those things just kills so much of the game, that most main players probably don't even know half the content exists, because you can just Protean/lamp/bonus xp without interacting with any skills. I've been playing an RS3 ironman for like, 2-3 years now. I don't play all the time. But I keep coming back to it. I've got like 13 99s, and each one felt great to achieve. You can do bossing and dungeoneering with other irons, so some of the social aspects are still there and you can do things with your friends unlike OSRS irons. Necro has been a fun skill to level and was a great addition to get new people into the action bar system and how an MMO class would work, building up resources and spending them on strong abilities. Archaeology might be one of the best RS skills ever developed, with a meaningful gathering skill that also has completionist aspects to it, that also link into cool and expansive lore for the rest of the game. It's such a shame you can't experience the fun parts of the game just because you have access to spending real world money to skip it all.
It's also my main way I play runescape now. I don't think I'll come back to OSRS for a long while, and I doubt I'll ever touch an RS3 main. It's a genuinely fun, expansive experience that I wish more people got to experience that wasn't tainted by the stigma of RS3 bad, MTX bad. Even if that last one is deserved. It's good content guys! Seriously try an RS3 iron if you want a fun, rewarding experience that's a change of pace from the regular OSRS loop.
@@KnooterinoYou worded everything very well! However, RS3 is just not an option anymore. Actual OSRS is almost not a option for me personally anymore. The amount of politics they push onto players is what pushed me away from Jagex in general, but I do play special servers like RSC and 2004scape, which is almost done. A few years ago I tried RS3, and the quests were fun. But its soulless, i can’t explain it. People might think i’m a purist, as I prefer the game in the earliest instalments, and assume thats why I had little fun on RS3, but thats not the case. I tried to go into it with the mentality of “this is not my runescape, its a totally different game and i shouldnt compare the two” And I didn’t, for a brief moment i was experiencing rs3 as a totally new game and had some hope. But quickly I came to realise that the social aspect is even more dead on rs3 than it is on osrs. I could make many different points but apart from the questing, everything felt soulless. To me, rs3 was like a big-scale-mobile game. Thats the only way I can describe it.
@@TrueChaoSclx Yeah, but when I speak up about it in todays culture, i’ll get called a homophobe or something of the sort. I don’t care who anyone shares a bed with, i dont mind seeing any combination of people loving eachother. Although not many would believe me. I think the LGBTQ community has become a cult, and people outside of that community for some reason praise all its decisions and outcry’s. Even though heterosexuality is obviously the most normal thing, it doesnt have to be represented in every fucking form of media. In RS i can’t decide to have sex with a woman, nor should you be able to. I can’t dress exactly like I do in real life, nor is my subculture represented in the slightest in RS, or any other game/media. So to get to what RS has done in terms of this, you can and will be banned if you use the wrong pronouns. It happened to people close to me. And the mods think this is righteous. Ofcourse its a different matter when harassing someone, but Ive seen this scenario and its not what happened. Account banned, permanently. It was his HCIM too. Like I said, my culture, subculture, appearance or sexuality is not represented in RS. Nor does it have to be. So why is the LGBTQ pushed down our throats? Why is it that that community is somehow privileged enough to have everything shape to their will, and THEY have to be accepted nomatter what. I don’t have that privilege, if i am disliked for whatever reason its just 2 people disliking eachother. In my case its apparently homophobia. The makeover mage has changed too. There are no “female” or “male” bodytypes anymore. Its a small change that doesnt bother anyone on a daily basis but it shows what the focus is of the mods, and they are honest to god reverse incels or something. There are wings that you wear and when you do, you will say “your gender matters” randomly. There are many many lgbt cosmetic items. Again, we don’t have anything like that either. The landscape has changed and it attracts people that value the lgbtq over anything, which I think is ridiculous and a game should be inclusive, and by doing this its actually the opposite, it becomes the focus of the game in certain ways. There is more but I have said enough. I hope you can read my thoughts that I put here without looking at me as a hateful person, bc I am not. I honest to god don’t care what someone does in their free time, i don’t mind seeing it in the slightest either. This is a seperate matter and Jagex is ruined for it, for me.
Wow! The construction example is so enlightening. No wonder the game struggles. That's not even a game. Imagine if they reset rs3 without mtx and it became great like osrs?
I'd never log in again. I've slowly been grinding out my account since 2005 or so. If others want to pay extra to boost their account, that's their choice, it doesn't affect my gameplay. But no way am I gonna grind all that stuff again. There's a reason why I never got into OSRS since the split.
I know what Jimmy is saying with the construction example, but i believe the best non-mtx ways to train construction these days anyway is either using fort forinthry or using construction contracts. So you often don't touch the house anyway (and there's no real benefits to POH's anymore)
@@Webmaster4531 So is OSRS, OSRS combat literally is "how fast can I click stuff and swap between tabs" At least in RS3 you have the choice for it to be that or something more Involved...
@@MrSimpsondenniswell that's a tragic misrepresentation of osrs combat. No one will take you seriously if you're just going to lie. I already forgot anything else you may have said while typing this. You're either ignorant or biased which is it
It doesn't really matter if they remove it now - the game has been permanently harmed by years of this. Runescape really needs a true sequel, and it wouldn't even need to be significantly different from RS3. It just needs a completely fresh start with a clean track record of healthy monetization, a new coat of paint, new stories, new quests, removal of all the old jank, revisited skills, etc.
Just want to point out to appreciate the passion that turns this into a 52 minute video. I hope Jagex will listen to this. And wether they do or not, I appreciate what you do for the community by releasing this video.
EDIT: I should add for context, I am 36 years old, I don't have the time or really, the years to do this all over again at this point. The main problems I have with a reset button option is I have spent literal decades doing stuff in this game, and if I have to do it all over again, I won't. I don't want to spend countless hours collecting resources I already collected or doing long and difficult quests I've already completed. I also have stuff I'm afraid won't move over like cosmetic items, or for example, the capes that represent how long I've been playing or my Classic Runescape cape (a cape given to you if you logged into the original version of Runescape) or the old holiday items I got for being there all those years ago. I'm not interested in slowly grinding out skills again. That doesn't mean I want to buy my way back to 99's it just means I won't participate ever again. Even if they include a legacy RS3 server, why would I continue to play? That version will most likely never receive another update and slowly wither away anyway. At that point, the game might as well be dead to me. If it was a softer reset, sure, I could deal with that. Kinda like the RS1 to RS2 transition, or if my skills HAVE to reset, then I would want the exp rates to be better, and I could just claim rewards from all the quests I've previously done instantly when logging in. But if I lost everything? Nah, I'm good. I don't want to invest another 20 years on and off. All that being said. This was a wonderful video. I love your content and keep up the good work.
@99temporal now that's not a bad idea to me. I haven't spent time to think of the potential downsides to player or developer, but on the surface I like this idea
the thing is, getting back up there isnt really that hard anymore. You can get to the endgame portion of the game relatively quick, specially now with necromancy.
@@Ghoulgran I'm in a similar situation to the original commenter. My account is closing in on 20 years old. I have spent thousands of hours working on my character in game. I've completed every quest, worked hard to get bis armor sets and even though I am in no means one of the top players I have sunk an enormous amount of work into my account. While I have engaged with mtx systems at times in a limited capacity at least 2.3b of my nearly 3.1b xp has been obtained through raw gameplay. Most of my "mtx" xp has been through daily keys and proteans or dummies earned through them. But I also know what it's like to grind because I played for years before squeal of fortune (proto-TH) was released. I don't have the time to grind it out like I did when I was 12. If I was forced to reset I just wouldn't play anymore. I would absolutely port over my character to a new server where mtx was no longer a thing outside of cosmetics. But starting over? Replaying over 300 quests I've already done? I know I wont do it because I started an alt, have all the skills above 80 by using it as a processing jockey for things like stone spirits I get on my main or to produce extremes to make overloads while working on 120 all (5 skills to go) and I cant progress it much further because I just have no interest in replaying content I've done before. I also know people who are closing in on 5.8b xp and have never spent a dime on TH. Do they deserve to have their work wiped out because some people need external validation for their accomplishments? Because that's what people mean when they say "my accomplishments feel like they don't mean anything because somebody else just bought it." If jagex wants to remove pay to win xp, by all means. Take all my proteans and bxp and dummies and cores. If jagex nukes my account progress because some people are insecure then I'm just going to quit. I have other games that I spend time in as well. I continue to play RS3 because it's my original character with so much history and so many memories, and expecting people to just accept having all of that invalidated so that you can feel special because some random person is impressed by you in the video game is incredibly selfish.
@eLECHtricity same I'm 1year away from 20 years. And when eoc came out I was forced to move my account to rs3. And ever since then it's just been shit.
I’m a returning player to RS3, I originally played as a kid when it first came out out- I never really had the experience of playing Runescape as it is in OSRS as I’m only 20. I have used treasure hunter but not paid any real money (other than for membership) for anything. I don’t mind the bonus XP and the skilling helping things but I’m still tying to play the game “as intended” and I feel like MTX being removed wouldn’t really change how I play. I just wish I had more people to play with at my skill level (~1,300) and that there was the community of OSRS. I’ve always enjoyed Runescape and it has always had a space in my heart and I don’t want to see a game I love dying…
This, made a few months a new account for the quests the TH keys from the quests was helpful, but I didn't buy keys. Got my quest cape a week ago, I play as intended as well. I hope somehow this mtx issue will fixed without any issues with existing accounts.
OK LISTEN the problem with these surveys is a thing called survivor's bias: the people they're being sent to are people who are STILL playing the game despite the fact that the mtx is so predatory. the result of it is going to be leaning more towards favoring the transactions than would be the case in a larger sample size and if you were going to be accurate you would want to include the people who also QUIT the game because of them in world war 2 the planes were coming back covered in holes so someone suggested that because of the holes being confined to certain areas of the planes they should add more armour to those specific areas when in fact its the opposite because the planes being shot down were the ones being hit where the ones returning were not.
I was in the survey as a returning Ironman after not playing for years and only paying for membership plus $20 in cosmetics. Stop spewing bullshit when you don’t know how the surveys are sent out.
I was surprised to get the survey since I've not played in 2 years, and even then, as an Ironman. My main I hadn't paid membership on in perhaps 4. I've also never purchased any MTX or cosmetics, at most redeeming a few bonds over many thousands of hours. I've long hoped for a nuclear option to restart the server with no P2W MTX, and a more subtle implementation of the cosmetics for those who use it. I hope they take it, since even as a high level veteran of 07' with a maxed OSRS character, I genuinely enjoy RS3 more than OSRS, but its systems and market kill it for me. Also, by god is it convoluted. If they can press the nuclear option and just remove the "fluff" content to clear up so visual space in the world, I'll be back again.
It also results in more accurate feedback for Jagex to use, though, if their goal is to help their existing players. Sure, a more varied sample group would undoubtedly be more critical of MTX, which is a good thing because MTX is bad, but it would also largely not understand the balance of RS3 and what tradeoffs should and shouldn't be made to stop a total collapse. If they just removed MTX overnight, for example, and changed nothing to compensate, there would be chaos, and RS3 vets better understand this, in theory.
They have had micro transactions for so long that it’s already ruined the game. There is nothing they could do to make me play the game again. The only reason there would be to play rs3 is iron man and I hate Ironman mode.
I'm glad you made this video. I used to play RS back in the day like many of us, stopped playing when the first predatory micro-transactions were introduced as I was a teenager with no money and my parents didn't pay for my membership either, there was just better value for money out there and I had to make choices where I would spend it. Later I played OSRS because of nostalgia, I tried RS3 but my old account I had invested in had all sorts of mechanics unlocked that hadn't been introduced to me gradually (because I didn't play when the updates happened) it was overwhelming and the MTX were even worse, so I didn't stick around. I played a couple of OSRS HCIM runs, some HCIM F2P speedruns (routing all the F2P quests in such a way, with multiquesting etc. to beat them as fast as possible) played non ironman too for a bit but it felt weird to just do so much of questing and skilling through the GE, had some fun with GIM too. But in the end this game is just a medieval cookie clicker, click and the number goes up. Personally I would like a game with more mechanics and more depth to the combat. Granted part of this is because I need to take medication that slows my reaction speed, so late game bosses that require prayer flicking and avoiding certain tiles etc. are just not for me. Problem is clicking at the right place at the right time is really all that OSRS can do to make fights engaging (you talked in another video about stuff like taunting bosses becoming a thing and that would absolutely change the game for me in a good way). But yeah unlike probably most of your viewers I also quit OSRS. Theoretically RS3 would play a lot nicer with my medication with its keybinds, automatic abilities etc. but that wasn't an option in the current state of the game. Runescape is a game I love, I enjoy the lore and I have actually off and on engaged with it for the majority of my life now (which feels crazy to say) I am invested in its world and its lore. If RS3 gets a pay to win mtx free reset I will almost certainly give it a go.
overwhelming is the word. I played RSC and if I tried to play RS3 these days i'm totally lost. I can't do the latest content until I do the archeology and dungeoneering story sidequest stuff? Its all so blurred and vague lol.
I started playing RS3 because of your By Release series because I was interested in where the story of RS3 goes. Doing the quests means I get a lot of keys, but the fact that it's so insistent in giving what is essentially free xp sours the gameplay so much. IMO, if they were to remove the direct XP items from it (Lamps, stars, Proteans, skilling packs, training dummies) it'd be more paletable. I think having special items you can get through them is neat, especially stuff like the cosmetics and bank note papers where it's a special convenience and may save trips, but doesn't have you not doing skills. Hell, even earning clue scrolls from it would be fine. EDIT: Also, having Mods that were a larger part of the community, or even having a community would be a big boon to RS3. I see OSRS mods always interacting with the community and then never see RS3 mods do anything like that.
48:00 to be fair, this is exactly how I felt sitting there mining iron rocks and dropping the ore for hours at a time to level mining up in OSRS. Ultimately what pushed me away from RS3 is what pushed me away from Runescape altogether; I just honestly could not justify the grind of the game anymore. I have at least a decades worth of nostalgia for the game and love to keep up with it to see what all is added to each game, but being an adult now with responsibilities and limited free time I just looked at myself clicking on a rock for hours while listening to podcasts and figured I would rather spend my time elsewhere. We are in a fantastic era of modern gaming with some fairly great AAA as well as indie titles coming out almost constantly, and I always wonder if the gameplay loop of Runescape as a whole is actually what is preventing more people from joining moreso than anything else.
As someone who also loves Runescape skilling but found skilling too much of a timesink, I'm loving Melvor Idle. It's published by Jagex, its Runescape but all skilling all the time. I can work or play other games and scratch that itch, and when I do feel active there's more "Active" skills I can do (like combat, theiving, "quests" you can turn in of items to help a township grow, etc). Definitely recommend!
Nice insight, man. This is what has pushed me away from these MMO style games in general. I don't want to sit there and grind any more. I want to genuinely enjoy the time I spend gaming instead of grinding to enjoy it later. I used to do the two monitors thing as well until I realized I wasn't really enjoying the content or the games as much as I could. Like you said, there is just so much great content and games to enjoy over enduring the soulless grind for hundreds of hours.
I really appreciate your fair approach to the game as a whole, I also think RS3 has huge potential and this permanent FSW concept is enticing to me as a former player that sometimes dip their toe to see whats going on, but I also agree that maybe the damage has been done in terms of salvaging its reputation or players interest in switching over or trying it out is very low, but if they have to make a gamble, I really hope they go with the permanent FSW with those incredibly cool inversed 99/120 capes that I envied back when I last visited the game, they're so cool, the skills are very well thought out and great, I always came back to re-max and 120 the latest skill and I was rarely disappointed, so I really hope they can salvage it and become a little more competitive alongside old school
I started playing RS in 2005. My “main” is the only account I play. It transitioned to RS2. I eventually took a LONG (6 years) break. I returned to RS3. Same account, but arguably a completely different game. I had 6 99s before I quit. That I worked HARD for and was so proud of all of my capes. Now, upon returning 10 months ago, I’ve gotten 19 more 99’s. Including Div, Nec and Inv I had to start from lvl 1. Treasure Hunter has truly made these grinds so easy it takes away the value of capes. I think the 120 capes are the old 99 capes. With them seeming borderline unobtainable, and the economy seeming broken (if you’re into rares, good luck ever affording one), it’s hard to say if I’ll stick around after getting max cape.
@@jakefull3606 I have a list of things I’d like to do after max. There’s a lot I’ve simply never done bc it’s new or I was always grinding 99s. Like bossing. Never gotten fire cape. Never gone GWD.
Hey! I'm so so happy that someone, in this case you, made this video! I totally agree and follow you with what you are saying. I'm currently at 13:21, so lots of minutes to go. Somehow makes me sad, and other emotions, just that it is true in different ways. I also hate that some people and players say then don't play the main game and create an ironman. As well that xp is the only 'direct' thing, way to level up. Bxp isn't, you still have to do something, but the xp is doubled > ofc this is not perfect. The moment you said you got all these 99's etc just standing in Burthorpe, had me. Like I want to do something in the gaming industry as well, I'm a fan of Runescape for a big 15y now, and I try to create concepts and small/big stories. Knowing and thinking about all those devs who made this whole world and then players being able to just create 1 account or many other alts, without actually playing and somehow ruining their and others achievements and making those less special. ... My English is not 100%, native language is Dutch (Belgium), so sorry in advance if some sentences were not clear. I really liked it, and just like other youtubers who do this type of stuff for Runescape, I subscribed to you as well.
As someone who has played since 2009, I have stuck with rs3 through and through. Only now after all these years am I finally able to commit myself enough to my account to get max... just max and not 120s. I don't understand 120s and think that's way too much. I cherish my 99s because i remember when they were a big deal. I try to play osrs, but there is a strange click in my brain that doesn't work the same way it does when I play rs3. I personally don't like the idea of starting all over because I DID put all the time and effort into normally grinding my skills. I'm not an ironman, but I struggle to merchant, I struggle to pvm, and the things i like most in the game are the quests and the laid back skilling that doesn't take more than 2% of your brain to do (I'm looking at you invention you demon of a skill) I want RS3 to succeed, I will still play this game if MTX gets taken off. I will still grind my skills as I do normally, and I will quest happily because thats why I'm still here. Here's my hot take- put all those xp rewards and cosmetics back into minigames to motivate people to play castlewars, soul wars, fist of guthix again because they are empty. Pest control is one of my favorite minigames but it could be so much fun if it had a reason to play for the players. The only thing most players do is either skill, or boss because thats how you can meet the demand of anything. If you want to boss you have to have money, and to have money you have to boss... its kind of toxic. I respect skillers a lot in this game, especially if they are hardcore ironmen which I see a lot of in fort fortinthry. The greatest thing I saw was a hardcore ironman with a fire cape... who was level 3. That made me smile because that seems so hard to me, basically impossible. But it was done. There is a chance for this game, but I'm not going to restart because I'm too attached to this character I have made and carried with since I was in middle school.
That's cool, play at your own pace. I've been playing since 08 and have taken a few years break. Just recently got 200m in all skills and Trim completionist. I remember back in the day Runecrafting was one of the rarest 99s. Quests are the thing I like the most about Runescape, even the Fort quests that was kinda slow paced. I personally think all minigames would have to be reworked completely to be played.
As an ex RS3 player a full reboot would be the only thing that would get me to play again. I did partake in the problem by utilising the squeal of fortune to finish off maxing my main account (skills that i did not care for). But doing so made it all feel so pointless. I did create an ironman account following this to make the achievements feel more deserved, but even then, the game just felt empty and pointless. I was very tempted to create another character for the fresh start world, but decided against it knowing it would ultimately be joining into the main game and would once again feel pointless. RS3 has a lot more problems, but this would be a huge step in the right direction for me. Would probably play both games at the same time if this fresh start came to fruition. Love the vid btw, and huge getting Mod Pips to interact, hope that this will help them to see the player mindset and how new life can be pumped back into this game
Jagex won't remove Treasure Hunter, they'll just release a version of RS3 that has it removed. They can't afford to outright remove it, and it's easy money that doesn't go to botters.
Tbh I don't WANT the players influencing the game updates on RS3. Not to the extent of OSRS anyway, because the flaws in that system are readily apparent. I'd rather have Necromancy and Archaeology rather than Sailing and... Nothing.
Agreed, also Jagex seemed to care *slightly* more about what players think lately, with the inclusion of the roadmap and discussions before the release of bigger updates. Still a loooong waay to go.
That's apples and oranges. Both necro and arch are amazing skills. Where both skills warding looking much worse and sailing looking meh. Each is being developed by different devs. The difference being the osrs skills being submitted to the poll was shit before polled where in rs3 they were clearly passionate about the skill creation and even if arch and necro was polled they'd pass with with high percentages.

@@queensnusnu9653 i wonder how much the nature of the poll affects this. With rs3 there is no chance of a future update being canceled by the players, therefor you can put a lot more thought and work into something before showcasing it. While with osrs it has to be kinda barebones because it could just be voted out so they have to jump to the next idea fast.
@@giltdavig2589 RS2-3 has a long history of throwing half-baked garbage at the wall and hoping something sticks and abandoning everything else. This is a waste of everyone's time and money including Jagex. For all it's flaws, the polling system has largely resulted in more consistent higher quality content overall. I personally think OSRS needs to be willing to take more chances though.
This is tough. Even the fresh start has downsides. I got a buddy that doesn't have the time for the grind but want to enjoy content so the keys gave him that. Without it I doubt he'll play he doesn't want to grind and RS3 has provided a anti-grind play that a lot of people love and I feel that's the main players lefts.
Why not just have permanent LMS? Enhanced XP drops through the accounts life, with drop rates cut by 50%. It wouldn't take but about 2 weeks to max and have good gear. No need to MTX, and you get the benefit of playing content you otherwise wouldn't get to without hundreds or thousands of hours in grinds. It just makes too much sense. OSRS has a permanent LMS mode. Why not RS3?

This is a very refreshing video. I played runescape back in the day, then created an OSRS account around 2016 and played it for a while, before eventually creating a new ironman account on RS3. I think OSRS had a lot of nostalgia but over-corrected - I think polling everything is a mistake that prevents good ideas from entering the game. The most fun I had playing OSRS was during leagues, and when I realized I could get similar experiences just playing RS3, I didn't really feel the OSRS vibe anymore. So I made my RS3 ironman and have been having tons of fun. And that fun is due in part to the ironman game mode, and in part due to the lack of MTX. I have bought a few cosmetics because I am an adult and can afford to spend money on something if I want to, and I wanted to buy some cosmetics, but I certainly didn't need to do that and the game would have been fine without. Overall, I think RS3 has a far better story and gameplay than OSRS and would have huge potential in a fresh start/RS4 setting. Would I make a new account and abandon my current account? Probably, but I am not sure. As an ironman account, it would probably be the same gameplay, but I would want to support where the game is going. Yeah it would suck having to redo the grinds I have already done, but I want the game to succeed because at the end of the day, it is the game I want to play. In the mean-time, I encourage OSRS players to give an ironman account a try, you might be pleasantly surprised. I think ironman RS3 is peak runescape right now.
I was pretty upset finding out my childhood account was looked to eoc after it's release. I got about half the skills maxed from keys and double exp weekend before I started an old school account. I've never played rs3 since. Super happy to see the old school population is so much more higher.
I started playing RS3 again after a few years break, trying to get my master quest cape back. Over 3.2k virtual level, approaching 2b total xp, handful 120 and 200m skills, etc. I don't like mtx. I've tried playing OSRS so many times and I never last longer than a week. I've tried rs3 ironmen and they never get far. The point is that I'm attached to the the character I've made and built almost 20 years ago and what I've done along the way. I just can't get myself to care about a fresh start. This entire situation just hurts because even if there's some perma fresh start and it gains traction, those of us who don't want to leave these characters we put so much time into will just have to deal with the population of our side of RS3's further dwindling population. Just trying to conceptualize how to dig out of the hole RS3's dug itself makes me feel like I'll be one of those MMO players without a home game sooner than I thought.
@@eireyouok101 There would have to be drastic changes to the content of the game to actually bring people in, old and new. RS3 devs have sometimes taken advantage of the fact that they have a playerbase that is more receptive to fundamentally changing core game mechanics and have found success (skill reworks like mining/smithing/farming, new skills like invention/arch, shaking up combat with necro, making wildy pvp completely opt-in). The big problem is that the game, unlike OSRS, doesn't have the same cohesive world "feel" for lack of a better word. I imagine this is why OSRS makes gains in the new player department and RS3 does not. RS3 devs can make new content with this "feel", but most of that content is for mid to late game players aside from some of those core skill gameplay changes that they've implemented. Both RS versions are very much non-stop exercises of self-direction, but there is so much that they can do to tighten up the early RS3 ride that would both give people a taste of what the game is later on and a sort of direction for them to go in. Ideally, the f2p experience should be that design space. Easiest changes would be greater access to the world, increasing the f2p level limit for members skills to more than 5, and getting more abilities unlocked earlier to get familiarity with main triangle combat growing quicker. Beyond that they have to do a ton of re-evaluation of so much of the either miserable (the EXHAUSTIVE list of dailies+weeklies+monthlies, etc); worthless (minigames like vinesweeper, ancient skilling methods, etc); inconsistent (graphical oddities in old quests, areas, and npcs); or just outright dead and useless content after getting certain rewards (shattered worlds, livid farm + mta, etc). I know it's a ton to ask for since OSRS started as only a small slice of Runescape's history and therefore could get into their stride quicker, but it's a LOT easier to tell when something in RS3 is really badly dated when compared to OSRS. For a new player I imagine it's more detrimental to the experience and much harder to ignore those things compared to OSRS. They've shown talent in worldbuilding time and time again through quests though, so I have some faith that they could do great work if they were to focus on that.
Coming from an RS3 player: For me the fun part of RS3 isnt grinding a skill or getting super good at a single method for hours on end. I dont want to spend days leveling a skill in a method that takes my full attention and is super repetitive. At least with AFK skilling you can do it on a second monitor at work, then get back to the fun stuff once the grind is over with. The fun part of RS3 are the quests, the achievements, the collections, the things that force you to go to every area of the map and gain understanding of runescape lore. I dont care about my skill level as much as I do my achievement count. If I have to spend days leveling in order to do a single quest, I am not going to have as much fun, I just dont have the time for that. I want to spend my time exploring and trying to achievement hunt.
@richardbergemann7537 Imagine the rest of us with blue-collar jobs or families. I don't have time to grind for hours on end. Can't play rs on a second screen at work. Bxp is nice, and so are lamps and proteans. It doesn't affect anyone else. Only my account
See, Fresh Start worlds would be great for this. People that like the game how it is can play that, and people that want to value their skilling achievements/other achievements that are killed through TH could play the Fresh Start worlds. I think one of my favorite things about when I played late Runescape 2 and early Runescape 3 was the afk skilling. I loved feeling like I achieved something, so after a long day of work/school I'd come home, turn on a show and afk runespan or something. Get a ton of runecrafting levels. Feel like I achieved something. It's why I've been loving OSRS, because my brain hates "lazing around." Wasting time! Don't take a nap, you could be doing something! So that TV show I've been wanting to watch? That's a waste of time. However, if I afk something in a game I'm going to invest time into, I feel like I'm "allowed" to waste that time because my enjoyment later will be better. Lamps don't offer this, since they're immediate, and a lot of OSRS's gameplay is tick manipulation. I'd love to AFK Runespan again. See the web of potential achievements branch out once more. "If I do a and b, then x and y are easier later because of z. So if I do a and b first, then x and y, then I'll have.. 80 agility, 80 construction, 75 runecrafting." Yada yada.
When EoC hit, I had just gotten 99 slayer on my account. I was so happy! It was like 3 weeks before EoC dropped. When EoC dropped, enemies that used to take 2 minutes to kill took 20 seconds to kill, and slayer exp was 10x what it was before PER kill. My 99 slayer that I worked hard for the hard way was essentially turned into a couple month grind. On another note, I didn't like training Thieving. It was boring. At one point, I went from 70 to 99 thieving in 2 hours from spins that I'd accumulated during one of their "burning lamp" events. I gave up on the game shortly after. I genuinely believe that without microtransactions and with a little bit of care and balancing on exp rates like osrs does with every release, RS3 could be fun. It's different. I liked the corruption shot ability that spread across and killed a bunch of stuff. I didn't mind the combat. They gave special attacks back, which made some aspects of the game fun again, and made some weapons and armor feel unique again instead of "I made it to 90 so I can never use SGS again." But what do you do from here? The game's broken. Achievements are nothing. Even if they fixed everything, new players would just have a harder time catching up and their achievements will still mean nothing. Fresh start worlds would be nice, but who would play on them? The people that don't want to abandon their maxed RS3 characters? Or the people already harassing RS3 for its problems? I think it's the best solution, just to make things feel impactful again, but it could kill current RS3 worlds even more and make the players that still play even more demoralized to play.
As an exclusive RS3 player, you hit the nail on the head. I would love to play a fresh start RS3 with no pay to play. I like EOC, I like the world, the quests, etc., treasure hunter takes so much away from the game.
Hey Jimmy, I love your videos! You made some fantastic points, and I agree with 99% of what you said. As an avid player of both OSRS and RS3, I actively avoid engaging with the MTX in RS3. In response to your video, I think you're spot on - we are at a crossroads with the future of the game. From my perspective, releasing a new server without MTX would be splitting the already dwindling RS3 player base. I've invested so many hours into RS3 that, if a new server launched, I'd probably stick with that 'legacy' version until it eventually goes under, and then just stick with my OSRS account.
I like cosmetic/layered armor, everything else can go imo. I know its not a popular opinion but i like being able to style my characters how i like them. Some of the cosmetics are to much, tho, like the wings and auras. I think a more grounded approach is necessary. Like sacrificing gear to have permanent layered verison of it would be cool. Honestly feel that way about osrs aswell cuz im tired of graceful and torva being the only stuff you really see now. Would also free up some storage and bank space from clue items and holiday items.
Its crazy that bonds are 131m, and people go grind out the 40 noted Saradomin's crowns or whatever they have in RS3 and 131m looks like nothing to them
For the current player base, I feel for them, all their hard work. Endless hours, years of building their accounts and wealth. But.... I might just play again if they re launch without MTX. Crazy to think about, but it almost excites me...
33:14 coming from someone that started out as an rs3 player, I completely agree treasure hunter doesn't even begin to cover most of my problems with the game. I absolutely loved the combat system between 2014-2019. Not many crucial changes were made over that time period, other than introducing new abilities that were unlockable via codex drops from certain bosses. Then 2020 came...and oh boy, they flipped everything upside down. New overpowered summoning familiar. New passive combat buffs just because they wanted people to engage with the new skill archaeology. And worst of all...the essence of finality, a new best-in slot amulet for PvM that is so utterly broken that it changed how every combat style was used. From there on out, it's as if every time they introduce a new weapon or ability codex, it's clear that they've invested no time in to balancing it. It's either so shit that you'd be stupid to buy it/grind it out as an iron, or it's so stupidly strong that you start asking yourself "why did they think this was a good idea?" You then get used to your combat kit for a while and they decide over a year after it's been out to just arbitrarily nerf/buff it. But worst of all is the fact that you actually just deal too much damage now. From when I last played in September 2023, there's about three bosses in the game where you actually cannot brute force skipping mechanics sheerly through DPS. I just cannot find bossing fun on there anymore when everything dies so fast from DPS, knowing how nuanced the combat system once was when you needed to actually play around mechanics. Gameplay progress and especially PvM encounters are a lot slower in OSRS compared to rs3, but to an extent I actually enjoy the fact that mechanics are a lot more meaningful. The equivalent would be like, say I'm using a tbow on olm's final phase and I've got no food, and I just keep hitting 0's-10's. It's possible for me to still finish the kill in spite of the bad rng by doing 1:0 and dodging the falling crystals. If I had to equivocate that to rs3, it'd be like having a tbow on olm's final phase, but you have 100% accuracy, and your damage range is 40-80. You can still kill it just as fast, but even with bad luck you will kill it so fast it's like you can do whatever the hell you want and it won't matter.
The question around pricing that you commented on being weird actually IS weird. That question is called a "Van Westendrop price model" question. It's built to work out how much to charge for a NEW product where you have no idea of the product's benefits and therefore the price acts as a signal of quality (e.g. if you see a new brand of beans you've never seen in the store before, all you know is that they're $0.27, you assume they're absolutely not premium). Given this is an established product, they really should have used a "Gabor Granger pricing model" question which keeps cranking up the price (since you already know what value you get from the service) and watches the drop-off of participants agreeing that they'd be willing to pay that for the service they're currently receiving.
The problem I see is, say they do get rid of treasure hunter now it won't change the argument of skills being devalued unless they literately wipe everyone to start. The accounts that took advantage of it still exist and will forever exist.
@@worldofcubing8242 Ah yes, dividing the game into a 3rd community will definitely help the game revive. Having a legacy version of the game for all the people that have already played and invested years of their life whether they did MTX or not will just be screwed right? The problem is it is very easy for someone who doesn't play rs3 to just say wipe it all. Not to mention if people want to complain about the cost now, imagine having to fund the osrs, rs3 legacy and rs3 fresh start servers now too and you would be a fool to think they wouldn't use that as an excuse to up prices.
@@Sonnacs 140 out of 160-ish servers have fewer than 200 people, and about 40 of the 160-ish are niche/rarely used servers. The server cost argument is meaningless. They could just keep 1 to 3 servers per region for legacy (say, 40 of the 160), and use the rest of the current servers for the new wipe. Heck, they could even just get rid of another 40 and go to 120 total without much server strain. I have been playing on and off since 2004, and I genuinely think the best thing by far is a complete reset. The levels on my main account are meaningless due to mtx now anyway. They only account I go back to play now is an ironman, but I would love starting a new main on a fresh world.
@@Zyxlian I'm not saying the server cost argument isn't stupid or meaningful I am just saying I wouldn't put it past Jagex to do something like that however your idea of reducing the worlds and splitting them does sound like a better plan but I am not sure how dividing the population again will affect the game overall. As for wiping the whole game I would be more interested to hear how people who have never stopped playing and have such high exp and etc. feel about a full reset where they lose all of that. Either way there really is no easy answer to please everyone unless they can find a meet in the middle.
Splitting the fan base three ways instead of two is definitively going to not work. As is that is….It will eventually just have so few people playing base rs3 and instead play the reset no mtx version rs3/osrs remains just a popular. So base rs3 dies and is replaced by the reset one lol. Bring back FunOrb or at least a way to play some of those games…I miss he Wizard Game
I've spent twenty years of my life on this game. I've played since I was a child. Now mind you, I don't play every day of my life. I've come back to the game several times a year, but I cannot justify starting over again on an entire new server. As someone who has sunk so much time into this game, and FINALLY GETTING MAXED 3 days ago.. Its a fear that I'm going to lose everything I ever had because everyone will migrate to a new server. They'd have to really make an incentive for long term players to join a new fresh start world. I agree that it would be pretty awesome, as a lot of people are kinda aiming at that view. There's a reason why I don't play OSRS, I already spent a tentative amount of time as a child on this game doing the things you would do in OSRS. Hackin' away at yew trees for hours as a kid. I can't see myself doing that again, starting over. I'm really just fearful that I'd lose my long standing account's achievements. They're my own gain, and I feel accomplished.
I have a lot of RS3 players that feel like you do including myself. I've been playing for 17+ years and I will definitely quit if I have to start over. I worked hard to achieve my 99 skills with 6 being 120's. I'm still working on getting my other skills to 120's. I like treasure hunter and I haven't purchase keys but I do earn them during game play and doing daily challenges. I would hate for them to take away Treasure Hunter.
Absolutely could not agree more. If they really want to take a shot at saving RS3 you need to get rid of P2W and xp boost COMPLETELY and start new servers. I actually enjoyed playing RS3 as an ironman, but it just felt so demoralizing. You also seriously kill any type of community with the xp stations. Yes, there are dozens if not hundreds of people using them, but none of them are actually paying attention to the game. I am not completely against the idea of cosmetic MTX, but they need to be high quality and high effort, not the trash "oh look if you give me money you can look like an OSRS player" bullshit. However, they also need to include cosmetics that can only be gotten through accomplishment and have it be just as high effort. I don't know if it would be enough to save RS3, but if they combined this idea with community polling for RS3 as they do with OSRS, they could have a really strong reboot on their hands.
This would have been new servers will more than likely kill the game entirely we are not regrinding 200 million experience in all skills it's not happening the same thing that happened with eoc will happen with RS3 if you do that aka mass exodus
Every time I log in and see players prancing around in outfits they bought with real money, it kills the immersion instantly. Here's a thought: scrap the nonsense entirely. Make cosmetics meaningful by tying them to real in-game achievements. And get rid of overrides, you should be wearing what it looks like you're wearing. Just raise the subscription fee and ditch the ridiculous microtransactions altogether.
I've been considering doing that. I like how rs3 ironman has a lootshare system. I play an iron in osrs NOT because I want to solo everything but because the bond has ruined regular accounts.
@@KEKW-lc4xi You say that, but I feel like the problem is that you can't resist buying them lol. I've been paying for my membership with gold for almost 2 years now, I really like the bond system, and the GE is essentially a way to trade X resource for X resource. Too many logs? Sell some and buy some herbs. Doesn't take away from the game IMO. Although I'll admit that my restricted UIM and my F2P UIM are probably on par with my main account, they're super fun. I'd probably go full UIM if I didn't have friends and my wife that play this game lol.
20+Y old account here - just returned. Gotta admit that when I logged on after roughly 10 years, I wasn't expecting to right click and see red all around me. I'm 99 in melee, constitution, defence, ranged, magic and prayer... And I remember having had to sacrifice a santa hat for that 99 prayer. I no longer have any rares, but that's how costly 99 prayer was. I can hardly fathom that everyone around me could have made the same sacrifices o_O. As a returning player, what point is there really to skill when high skill is the norm? Where's the fun in helping newbies when there's none? Where's the sense of community when any issue can be solved with a 6€ bond purchase? Way back then, Runescape felt, at least to me, very "isolated" - you had to make a few friends to know what anything was about, and if you ran into issues - having someone who cared enough to hand some precious loot that they will miss was a big part of the game, no gravestone, no safety anywhere aside from towns - reliance on each other was a thing (hence the scams). I remember full well people TPing into fal', poisoned begging for food and everyone was more than happy to help (except when poisoned food was involved) It felt small, familiar yet dangerous, full of the best and worst in humanity -- nothing was flashy, no powercreep, it was just nice and "mysterious". To me, everything started going wrong after loot overcame crafting smithing etc... The economy worked because there was no GE and dying usually meant losing your stuff, so there had both demand and supply. Gravestones + GE + Looted Weapons meant that people were far less likely to die, that if they died they could usually recover their stuff and if they ever needed to they could directly buy from bots or farmers without establishing any contact with a fellow human. Self reliance and small "shops" were a thing of the past. It opened many new opportunities, sure, and change isn't always bad - but lets face it this game is insanely bloated (like ... I'm pretty sure 90% of the VRAM is put towards rendering bs). You can almost smell the "we gotta pad that revenue for the fiscal year" of years past, layer by layer. There's no identity, why a my little pony pet? Why wings? Right next to edgelord gear --- oil and water, they don't mix and now you can't add that olive oil to your salad or drink that water for its a mess. I'm going to play again because nostalgia, but I'm fully aware that this is no longer my childhood game - along side eve online ... EDIT: just gotta put that theory I've always had out there: ever since the release of GE I couldn't shake off the feeling that it was mostly a means for jagex to keep control of the values of their top items, solely to be able to then control the market as the value of GP is relative TO these items. Looks like even as a teenager I was very against the idea of manipulation --- the nostalgia :p
Prefacing this with that I'm not disagreeing with your view on this, I fucking hate MTX as a concept and would much rather just pay a higher monthly sub, but... The problem with a big reset is the other thousands of hours worth of accomplishments that people have gone through that aren't related to MTX. Collection logs, Completionist capes etc, some of the grinds here are immensely long and have taken years to do. To me it's a case of Remove TH, and it's just gone, and people then have to deal with it and go back to other skilling methods for XP gains. Lets face it, the whales who spam keys and max out probably don't/wont' play anymore as they have no real connection to their account since it's just MTX'ed (like with your FSW account where you don't want to play it) the people who abused TH would just die off leaving people who actually want to play the game for what it is. The argument of devaluing accomplishments by leaving the gained xp from TH in there isn't really there imo, since you would devalue a heck of a lot more dedicated players by wiping the other non MTX related achievements from them if you were to hit a big reset button. This is coming from someone who has gone through trimmed completionism, has 99% of the achievements in game done, is working on the Golden reaper title (all boss collection logs) and has a fair number of clues under his belt too. Having that taken away would be soul destroying and I certainly wouldn't play RS again if it were to happen. I tried OSRS when it launched and have popped on to leagues a couple of times but starting over is just not an option for me, I've done all the stuff before, I don't want to spend thousands of hours grinding it again. Having another split in the RS community wouldn't go well either. RS3 needs to be kept as 1 or it will just die, it can't split again like it did with OSRS as there would be the inevitable "oh you pay that version....eww" fights that still to this day go on between RS3 and OSRS communities.
Agreed 100%. The best option is to remove progress MTX (cosmetics would still be fine I guess) but then keep everything as is, no reset on anything. Just continue on from there with no TH. New servers would just divide the community more, and a total reset would make me quit, and not even go to osrs.
Totally agree, I've been playing my account for over 20 years and I have hours in achievements and still not even close to Max Cape. If they reset I would just quit, all my time would be lost.
Lol not one of you would like to see the game thrive then. All your arguments are “Yeah but i did shit though” If you’re not willing to restart, then you don’t want the game to be saved. Rs3 has a limited lifespan and its racing towards the end. And before anyone says anything, on any version of RS, I would restart in a heartbeat if it would mean i got a version of runescape that aligns with my vision of what Runescape is.
@@Zeziliath tbh I've been hearing that argument for years now, "RS3 is dead", yet I've had several friends start playing in the least few years and I meet new players in game all the time. Not everyone plays the same way or has the same goals, I for one don't care for pvm, I'm a skiller/hoarder. I'm not an ironman but I don't use the stars/lamps, you can destroy them and not use. I have over 20 years of progress in my account and I definitely don't want to lose that.
@@knitnonymous You do you, but the argument “Well i know people that do this so…” is just your personal experience and doesnt show that rs3 is dead or not. Also, I never said rs3 is dead. It just has a clear lifespan the way its going now. Daily there are about 4k people online. Ultima Online Outlands has more players than that and its a private server of a even older game. Rs3 isnt dead right now, but its not thriving. Its not looking like it will either. Your experience can be fine but that literally doesnt change anything. I play old games nobody thinks of, and even there I have regular new players. This doesnt say anything as most will leave quick, and the ones that stay just replace others that have their break-period at that time or have quit completely. So ofcourse a game thats called Runescape, the name that has always been in the conversation of “best mmorpg of all time”, will get people to try it out every day atleast a couple. Its not about that, and its a rather weird argument to have.
As someone that plays both, I think the notion of RS3 being bad because "previous players that haven't logged in for years having their achievements diminished because 120 is the new 99" is a bad argument. You stopped playing for years, and the game grew. There was powercreep, xp creep, and actual expansions to skills. Your account is always more impressive for having done something earlier when the game was harder, but wishing your 99s from 2012 were still peak gaming is not the way. That said, the FSW accounts should not have ported to the main game, and MTX is always poison, but to sum it up: The game doesn't owe it to the world to stay the same. They made us a version for that.
Missed the point of his comment, especially when trying to entice older players into returning. We grew our accounts during the rougher years when barely any content existed. Having it go from that, to being able to skip the grind completely by bankstanding, and just spinning some wheel, neglects all of that and makes the grind back then pointless. No player from that era will ever return, because their efforts are now meaningless.
First of all, thank you for putting attention on this topic. I've consistently played RS3 for the past couple years and I want nothing but what is best for this game. I can't underestimate how much of an impact MTX has on experience directly or indirectly and that's why I think I would be so excited for a fresh start version of RS3. Over the past couple years, I have not spent money on TH keys but I have premier membership and can get upwards of 8 keys a day through premier membership and dailies. I have just over 4 billion total experience and I have a few skills that are 150m-200m that I have not interacted with since 99 outside of lamps/stars and protean items. The main game is tainted by years and years and years of experience inflation. A full fresh start reset server would be amazing. It's going to be hard and there will always be players who are going to be upset, not make the transition, or quit outright. For the long term health of the game, I think this is the best solution. P.S. can't wait for the RS3 quest series
I would pay 15 or 20 if it let us get membership on all are accounts.. but i cant have more then 1 account at the moment idk how people have 20 accounts with members atm
I started a RUclips series similar to By Release in RS3 and have been really enjoying it as an Ironman. I honestly think the big red reset button is the best idea to get people back, Thanos snap away Treasure Hunter😂
Long time RS3 player here, who now only plays an OSRS ironman. Let me share my experience. I struggled to find accomplishment in Rs3, ended up resorting to PKing in the wilderness and staking at the duel arena (this was pre-archaeology). If that wasn't enough I would buy keys (MTX). Having realized that I was logging on to just gamble GP, I had to quit... which led me to the creation of my ironman on OSRS. I only wish I started playing OSRS sooner. I look back at RS3, and I truly do miss the QOL updates and the fleshed out PVM aspect of the game. But no matter what Jagex adds to the game I will never return. Also removal of the wilderness was saddening, having shattered what was left of the PvP community.
@@nemesis9754 Yes but people who've grinded 100s of hours of boss logs clue logs ultimate slayer progress etc. get thrown into 'legacy' servers that split and fracture the playerbase. Assuming these legacy accounts would eventually become phased out by taking a huge gamble these FSW servers take off with new players. I'm willing to bet the cross-pollination of OSRS to FSW servers doesnt hold up after 3-6 months and we get another DarkScape scenario where it's shut down after some time. This is ultimately a bad idea.
RS3 players ability to influence game development is much higher than you think. There's a lot of back and forth on how skills are supposed to be and get released. We don't get to decide the update like OSRS does, but we definitely shape how it comes out.
I stopped playing just before EOC and I wanna say I was around 2000 total level. EOC wasn't why I quit, but things like this are why I never came back. Started from scratch in OSRS and now most of my skills are higher levels than they were on my OG account, even though it'd be easier on my OG.
Hitting the reset button would be a very nasty move to pull, and likely cause many people to pack up their bags and leave. It honestly isn't needed to solve the conundrum. I got nothing against there being a fresh start world option for those inclined, but nuking other peoples time and effort at the same time would be a terrible idea. Not to mention if you went and divided people up ("legacy" idea) basically slapping the rest of the community with a pretty nasty insult for playing the game by demoting any achivement, accomplishment or actions. You'd basically at that point be painting a stereotype, and devaluing a lot of players effort. Again, terrible idea and would lead to massive division and paint the existing playerbase with an ugly brush to boot.
Also yeah making it seem like TH was everyone's one stop shop to max would make anyone else look at all maxed players as having bought their way to it.
@@ryanblack3686 Especially when likely most players don't throw any money at TH. Besides that, I don't personally much mind if someone else wants to make a lousy investment. It doesn't factor into my achivements, because what do I care? I am too old to have any iota of want to compare myself to others to see how our pixels are growing. Their progress is their own, and mine is mine. I play for fun and my fun isn't based, hampered or at all dependant on if some rich fools wants to be a whale or kraken type spender (which are very rare because most folk (and thus players) don't have access to mountains of disposable income to throw around.)
as someone whos played the game for 20 years, i agree that the p2w aspect has to be removed. Cosmetics are fine, but all the xp gains from this just makes the game boring. I dont think i'd be for a reset though. I'm not looking to compare my accomplishments to others; i know what i went through in the old days to get my levels and thats enough accomplishment for me. Losing that progress would probably make me quit RS3 altogether. I would, however, be open to resetting all xp gained from lamps and stars (and whatever else was used to gain that p2w bonus xp), if thats even possible (jagex keeps a lot of metrics, i'm sure this is one of them). Not a popular opinion im sure, but at least then i dont lose what i spent so much time making. It would mean i lose a lot of levels (i've definitely had my share of treasure hunter), but thats something i can regain the old fashioned way.
controversial take: fuck ya $14 membership when i could buy the gp for a bond on the black-market for $2.40. i dont want to support rwt, but its financially irresponsible for me to do it any other way.
As a RS3 player, main account, I don’t feel like my accomplishments are devalued in any way by microtransactions. I never paid any real life money on RS, not for keys, not for bonds, not even for members. You can absolutely simply enjoy playing the game as a main account, just ignore the microtransactions, and simply don’t care about others getting xp much faster through paying. If you play for your own amusement and not other people’s gratification, you know how you played it, and you can feel accomplished about what you’ve achieved. Also, RS3 is way less focused on skilling than OSRS is. There is a lot more to do, things to achieve, mechanics to learn and master. It’s a very different game to OSRS, and accomplishment comes from other thungs than in OSRS.
its weird to think that the account i sat in the stronghold of security training combat on over 15 years ago was the same game as whatever rs3 is now, where i could probably now replicate months of progress from then in a few hours today personally i dont think there is anything they could do to make me switch back from osrs without completely resetting the game
Jimbo, i dissagree mate. Respectfully, you can absolutely pay to win; its why a lot of skills most efficient xp per hour are usually unattainable because they cost so much. Yes thats more dictated by the market, but you can absolutely dump a tonne of cash to expedite things. Not saying on the scale of things its super unbalanced, but it can be pay to win.
haha yeah with near unlimited in game wealth you can do methods in the most expensive way. In RS3 you're not guaranteed the same value consistently with TH. You can exactly plan how much bonds you'd need to get a certain xp goal.
@zeldapro18 I'm not arguing about RS3, you're conflating the two. I'm simply making the point about osrs very much having pay to win mechanics baked in by item scarcity, it's a similar outcome but it's more obfuscated.
@zeldapro18 hey, listen, I'm sorry. I read that, I had just woken up. I think hat coupled with the naturally confrontational nature of the Internet immediately put me on the defense. Sorry.
So my RS3 account is my original runescape account from 2007. If that gets wiped for fresh start im quitting the game lmfao. I have all quests done, maxed before RS3. No thanks
I'm glad you pointed out RuneMetrics. I was actually having a lot of fun exploring RS3 on a brand new ironman (my RS experience goes all the way back to RSC). Then I stumbled onto the fact that you had to pay for this RuneMetrics thing to see your xp/hr, and I immediately went back to OSRS. It's a shame what happened to the original fork of the game I grew up on.
Yes also personally feel rs3 should GIM should be limited to a new mode as UIM on os. Way too late for regular gim on rs3 but whatever...gim works on osrs, because the grind is unreal. it will fail on rs3 imho. Even ironscape is easyscape on rs3 lmao. zero challenge except chasing the rng. gim = mini g.e for irons.

Switched from RS3 to OSRS. Quit when i was a Master Trimmed Completionist. The game went in a direction that i really disliked after the Elder God Wars. REAL
Same
I have well over 500 hrs in my RS3 HCIM, while that isn't alot to some players, between working 50+ hrs a week and raising a family it's alot for me.
😂😂😂😭😭😭
100% if permanent, fresh start worlds were added with no MTX, I would play. These worlds would also help the developers learn which parts of RS3 as a game can be improved, because more players would be engaging with those systems and comment on any pain points.
That idea sounds outlandish for other games but they have done it before with osrs so one can wish.
But FSW has increased EXP rates...
No way that could fracture the RS3 user base like that. Sounds fun to you but it leads to 2 versions of RS3 that are even closer to unsustainable death
Old RS: I bot my skills

Can't be. he only does OSRS content

To be fair, it is 524 free keys by just doing quests and none of the dailies. So, normal gameplay will get you several hundred keys. And depending on how you look at it, That may be generous, or it may be trying to solidify the addiction over a long period of time.

The audacity from the last survey to see how much more people would be willing to pay to remove MTX, only to then raise prices and keep MTX.
The community has no faith.
The fact it was a 25% increase too is just plan insulting, and then they wonder why their veterans are retiring.

Bro when the source was a deleted twitch clip... perfection
i maxed a character in RS3 before they added archaeology and necromancy, if only because my character was created in 2003 and is old enough to get married, drink booze, and go to war and die (in that order), and the experience just progressively got worse and worse and worse.

"Just make a new RS with the stuff I like in and the stuff I don't like out why is it so hard"

RS3 has potential, but I am not sure it is within the bounds of reason for a company with a profit motive to make the necessary steps to revive it.
yeah i made that switch in like 2018, best choice i ever made
Yeah, apparently the RS3 POH system doesn't even allow you to rearrange your room locations and such whenever you want, you're simply locked in whenever you buy a new room unless you completely delete it.

Agree with this. RS3 feels balanced for ironman mode, it's genuinely so so good.
Would you play on a permanate Fresh start world with no mtx, essentially and or just what items would you want removed, in priority such as EXP Lamps vs double exp or proteins vs other items.
Preach it tho, Fresh start world during the competitive weeks was amazing, no mtx, just grind.
agreeeeee
Saaaammme
Can you explain how mtx affects your gameplay now?
Considering that most skills are buyable via the GE having the ability to buy bonds with IRL money and sell it for gold in game is just as bad as buying lamps from MTX.
my thing about MTX is them adding items via MTX when they could've been added to clue, new bosses, random drops, mini games etc.
@@Kaihegon I don't play.
Love how people who cant read feel entitled to karen out
@@randomwannab118something you seem to be ignoring is that runelite isnt developed by jagex. If jagex decided to outright ban runelite tomorrow all of these amazing features you claim to get compared to rs3 go away. Jagex isnt giving osrs any of it.
@@ohno7582 lol fuckin shill.
--> Sense of accomplishment of XP devalued by MTX
Now granted I never had valued xp even before MTX, my opinion is going to be skewed here.
-> POH being useless because people just bankstand now for better xp rates
RS3 is vastly different on how useful POH is compared to OSRS.
--> Bankstanding for XP Rates
POH example out of the way, portables are extremely good because the alternatives suck.
--> MTX, PAY 2 WIN
Even let's say you buy all your XP and max out, it's only going to get you so far.
--> Fresh start NO MTX
TBH, the damage is already done.
(like uncharted isles but we can control it)
Move the aquarium, statues, repair stuff over to homestead and remove POH.
Issue is that rs3 mtx supplements osrs. As profits and player base dwindles, don't be surprised they try something on osrs.
RS3 dies = osrs gets mtx, Have fun with that kiddo.
I tried to go into it with the mentality of “this is not my runescape, its a totally different game and i shouldnt compare the two”
And I didn’t, for a brief moment i was experiencing rs3 as a totally new game and had some hope. But quickly I came to realise that the social aspect is even more dead on rs3 than it is on osrs.
I could make many different points but apart from the questing, everything felt soulless.
To me, rs3 was like a big-scale-mobile game. Thats the only way I can describe it.
@@Zeziliath I'm curious if you have examples of 'politics'. I haven't played either game in a long time (OSRS at all, and RS3 for a few years)
@@TrueChaoSclx Yeah, but when I speak up about it in todays culture, i’ll get called a homophobe or something of the sort.
@@TrueChaoSclx and my reply got deleted. Kinda proving my point whilst doing so too, that it exceeds so much beyond rs
EoC is still a pile of garbage.
I know what Jimmy is saying with the construction example, but i believe the best non-mtx ways to train construction these days anyway is either using fort forinthry or using construction contracts. So you often don't touch the house anyway (and there's no real benefits to POH's anymore)

as a person who just recently got into runescape and had to decide between os3 and osrs, this video is an exact explanation of why I chose osrs
Time for rs4.
Brighter shores is coming out.
Don't change the quests tho! I love them, they're the best part of RS3.

@@ChristianCTaken it's a simple idea bud, obviously it's a lot of work, but it's a lot less work than having a franchise slowly die
They could do something like deadman mode in osrs, where some worlds you have different characters specific to that world
@99temporal now that's not a bad idea to me.
Because that's what people mean when they say "my accomplishments feel like they don't mean anything because somebody else just bought it."
If jagex wants to remove pay to win xp, by all means.
You can get 1300 total level within a day or 2?
This, made a few months a new account for the quests the TH keys from the quests was helpful, but I didn't buy keys. Got my quest cape a week ago, I play as intended as well. I hope somehow this mtx issue will fixed without any issues with existing accounts.
The way its intended by jagex is u spending all the money you have, its why mtx exist
OK LISTEN
the problem with these surveys is a thing called survivor's bias:
the people they're being sent to are people who are STILL playing the game despite the fact that the mtx is so predatory. the result of it is going to be leaning more towards favoring the transactions than would be the case in a larger sample size and if you were going to be accurate you would want to include the people who also QUIT the game because of them
in world war 2 the planes were coming back covered in holes so someone suggested that because of the holes being confined to certain areas of the planes they should add more armour to those specific areas when in fact its the opposite because the planes being shot down were the ones being hit where the ones returning were not.
I was in the survey as a returning Ironman after not playing for years and only paying for membership plus $20 in cosmetics. Stop spewing bullshit when you don’t know how the surveys are sent out.
I am not playing and I got the survey.
I got the survey and I haven't logged in in over a year and a half, and the questions asked me how likely I'd be to return if they removed MTX.
Schitzo
overwhelming is the word.
We lost Mod Shauny and it was a day of mourning for all of RS3. Has not been the same since.
I think recently a big RS3 content creator became a jmod, so i hope that gives them a push to make more community oriented stuff.
I have a friend that got 99 dungeoneering without ever stepping into a dungeon.
It was all lamps and THE HOLE, at the summer beach event.
The whale well is drying up so they need to look at radical solutions such as 'providing an mmo experience that isn't absolutely busted'
The question Jagex is really asking is "Is RS3 WORTH saving?"
the follows up question will be "how much MTX we move to Old School"
Any game with an active player base is worth saving.
Ofc it is. It gets bare minimum maintenance/updates and makes almost as much money as its younger brother
@@ATROFlAR that's because of whales, only reason its still around is because of them
This is not the question but go off...
Take a break after max or do some different content. Then maybe go for comp cape, lots of content that you may not have touched involved it comp
@@jakefull3606 I have a list of things I’d like to do after max. There’s a lot I’ve simply never done bc it’s new or I was always grinding 99s. Like bossing. Never gotten fire cape. Never gone GWD.
None of them are valuable and they never were. It's just glorified cookie clicker.
You just listed 3 of the easiest 99s without lamps.

There is an old video from a friend where he bought a max account. Its outdated but made the point pretty clear.

Also about TH, some promotions on it give items that are worth hundreds of millions of GP, if not billions in a couple cases.
That’s the exact position I’ve always been in since being older
Why not just have permanent LMS? Enhanced XP drops through the accounts life, with drop rates cut by 50%. It wouldn't take but about 2 weeks to max and have good gear. No need to MTX, and you get the benefit of playing content you otherwise wouldn't get to without hundreds or thousands of hours in grinds. It just makes too much sense. OSRS has a permanent LMS mode. Why not RS3?
@@indigoenergygamer4350 my only problem is that it kinda forces the pvp that not everyone will want to participate in otherwise definitely a solid idea
@@YouDropedSomeThing just take PVP out of it. It doesn't have to be a 1:1 LMS. Your time playing os is over. RS Iron is where it's at brother.
@bigdaddydubz unfortunately not, I enjoy uim too much on osrs but it might be a cool f2p thing when I have free time
It's fun on an iron for a few months then it becomes login and do dailies and God are there an overwhelming amount of dailys. Enjoy it while you can though. I made an ironman last year and got about 3 months of fun out of it before I just couldn't bother anymore😊
@allensmith2125 true in more than likely just going to play it for the King Condor memes
@@allensmith2125 I just decided to skip dailies when I don't feel like doing them. It might be a bit of a waste, but there are so many of them that you would have to spend an hour or two per day doing them all, so you will definitely burn out if you try to keep up with them.
I feel like most of them should just be taken out if the game. They just feel like chores.
The reset button sounds harsh, but it's what saved runescape at all for me. I would have never tried rs3 after eoc if it wasn't for the reset of osrs
I was pretty upset finding out my childhood account was looked to eoc after it's release. I got about half the skills maxed from keys and double exp weekend before I started an old school account. I've never played rs3 since. Super happy to see the old school population is so much more higher.
The population isnt even comparable 😂🤘🏻
whats the percentage on bots though vs rs3?
@@giltdavig2589 even then, not comparable. Runescape 3 has about 4000 players online per day. Ultima Online has more players than that. (I love UO)

Watched the whole video man, well presented, well spoken, glad to see the video did well a month later.
Its a sad reality, as a veteran of the game what do you think could be done to RS3 to bring players back without making fresh start worlds?
They've shown talent in worldbuilding time and time again through quests though, so I have some faith that they could do great work if they were to focus on that.
sit down fufuuf
youre missing the point... your account is worthless because of mtx.
Do you genuinely like logging in and seeing some of the ridiculous cosmetics that ruin any sense of the lore being serious
Coming from an RS3 player:
For me the fun part of RS3 isnt grinding a skill or getting super good at a single method for hours on end.
@@carmemories4202 I 100% agree, however it would be nice for rs3 to get a player bump
I mean... you can almost assume they are doing that second option in actual practice currently with the price increases.
I got the email, I've never bought MTX, play RS3 on the regular, slammed MTX into the dirt as the biggest trash ever.

Hey, really good production value on this one. Seriously great content too. This is why your videos are can't-miss.
The problem I see is, say they do get rid of treasure hunter now it won't change the argument of skills being devalued unless they literately wipe everyone to start. The accounts that took advantage of it still exist and will forever exist.
Did you even watch the whole video before commenting? J1mmy literally went over this point and offered a solution

There's a reason why I don't play OSRS, I already spent a tentative amount of time as a child on this game doing the things
you would do in OSRS.
I would like new server but pre eoc one. Old graphic and such. Pure enjoyement. Yes that would be osrs but it's not same feeling
This would have been new servers will more than likely kill the game entirely we are not regrinding 200 million experience in all skills it's not happening the same thing that happened with eoc will happen with RS3 if you do that aka mass exodus
What does “save rs3” even mean?
Every time I log in and see players prancing around in outfits they bought with real money, it kills the immersion instantly.
Here's a thought: scrap the nonsense entirely. Make cosmetics meaningful by tying them to real in-game achievements. And get rid of overrides, you should be wearing what it looks like you're wearing. Just raise the subscription fee and ditch the ridiculous microtransactions altogether.
@@KEKW-lc4xi Getting rid of overrides would be a terrible idea. Just make an option to hide them instead
I play rs3 ironman and osrs. Rs3 ironman is nice bc no mtx there.
I've been considering doing that. I like how rs3 ironman has a lootshare system. I play an iron in osrs NOT because I want to solo everything but because the bond has ruined regular accounts.
@@KEKW-lc4xi they are coming out with group iron, if you wanna wait for others :) up to you
@@KEKW-lc4xi You say that, but I feel like the problem is that you can't resist buying them lol. I'd probably go full UIM if I didn't have friends and my wife that play this game lol.
left everything behind to start one, it's quite fun :D
@SKeWDReW make a series! Would be cool seeing how an osrs player starts rs3. Hard part is making the UI. Look at videos :)
I remember full well people TPing into fal', poisoned begging for food and everyone was more than happy to help (except when poisoned food was involved)
It felt small, familiar yet dangerous, full of the best and worst in humanity -- nothing was flashy, no powercreep, it was just nice and "mysterious".
All your arguments are
“Yeah but i did shit though”
If you’re not willing to restart, then you don’t want the game to be saved.
They made us a version for that.
surprised this comment still exists, i disagreed with dude and had mine deleted lmao, clearly a power trip
This. 1 membership per Jagex Profile instead of per RS account
They buy bonds with GP lol
@Axilstealspie yes but should be able to play multiple accounts with membership its 2 expensive
@leebryan700 The people in question with "20 accounts with members" aren't exactly casual players
@leebryan700 You don't need membership on name-sitting accounts
I started a RUclips series similar to By Release in RS3 and have been really enjoying it as an Ironman. I honestly think the big red reset button is the best idea to get people back, Thanos snap away Treasure Hunter😂
Nice subtle advertisement lmao
Will check out tho ngl. Rs3 quests are awesome
Oo I'll check it out was hoping somebody would do this
@@IAmTheGoblin gotta do what you gotta do😂
Long time RS3 player here, who now only plays an OSRS ironman.

It sounds extreme, considering that you are addressing people with accounts as old as Zezima's, including Zezima himself, with this.
They wouldn't delete the current rs3......
Stop the cap
They'd lose 90% of their players if they did a full reset.
I play for fun and my fun isn't based, hampered or at all dependant on if some rich fools wants to be a whale or kraken type spender (which are very rare because most folk (and thus players) don't have access to mountains of disposable income to throw around.)
i got this email it goes crazy. they're tryna remove mtx
as someone whos played the game for 20 years, i agree that the p2w aspect has to be removed.
Where are you buying these for 2.40? 👀
@@PurpleProton117 17c/per mill on player auctions
It’s a very different game to OSRS, and accomplishment comes from other thungs than in OSRS.
its weird to think that the account i sat in the stronghold of security training combat on over 15 years ago was the same game as whatever rs3 is now, where i could probably now replicate months of progress from then in a few hours today
personally i dont think there is anything they could do to make me switch back from osrs without completely resetting the game
@@mattstackhouse6292 I was talking about bonds and buying wealth to super speed though levels. It's in both games. I was agreeing with you.

FSW ruined accomplishments more than anything due to the increased xp rates, imo
I just want dungeoneering in osrs (it can be a mini game and not a skill)
I like that idea. They’ve adapted other things in ways that I liked how they were implemented.
I personally think it should have been just a mini game in RS3
Yes also personally feel rs3 should GIM should be limited to a new mode as UIM on os. Way too late for regular gim on rs3 but whatever...gim works on osrs, because the grind is unreal. it will fail on rs3 imho. Even ironscape is easyscape on rs3 lmao. zero challenge except chasing the rng. gim = mini g.e for irons.
Fuck dungeoneering
I quit the game because of the addition of chaotic weaponry, and I felt that Dungeoneering was SUCH a drag to do. What, exactly, did you find enjoyable about it? I'm honestly asking
the only way to enjoy rs3 is as a ironman.

The pile up from the HeroPass, Fort Forinthry and Necromancy tipped me over. played as a main and sporadically bought keys if there was a OP promo.
