    Thank you to Jayco for allowing Josh to tour their production lines and showing the details. As a manufacturer, to me, it’s a risk you take knowing full well a competitor now can see your process, but to the customer you see what quality and details are taken as well as what Josh is talking about with construction terms. Awesome video Josh, very well done! 😊👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    I never get tired of the factory tours. When I was a trucker, I used to haul a lot of production materials to Fleetwood plants in California and Oregon back when they still made towable models. They were always happy to see me (mostly because a production delay was looming if I didn't show up in time) and they would always invite me in to look around. I usually had to get right back to work, though.

    I own an Eagle 330rsts 2017 and I do like it. My wife and I live in it full time in Washington State. A couple of serious trouble issues are 1- there's no insulation between the underbelly and wood floor making for some cold air intrusion. 2- because the underbelly material has the ability to warp along the edges, Mountain Lion sized rodents get into this space (at least they sound about that big). 2.1- because of the large holes cut into the floor for wiring, plumbing, and mechanical equipment these rodents have total free access to wherever they want to go including the ceiling. I've spent the entire time we've been living here chasing down all of the areas that have open holes. I do agree that Jayco Eagle 330rsts are a great product however if they would like to be the best possible I would like to share what I'm doing to improve my home. Great video, thanks for providing us with an in depth look.

    Great Job Josh! To answer an opinion, we have a White Hawk 32RL, which came with 2 chairs and Otoman. We tried it for a few weeks, but, hated it, so ordered and installed the conventional booth dinette. Works much better for us, and we now have an extra bed area for when we have guests. I still have the original units, should we ever change our minds, or for that time when we want to sell the travel trailer, but, the boot dinette works better for us.

    1) Very clean manufacturing plant, the pride shows throughout. As a advanced reinforcement, new product development mechanical manufacturing engineer, impressive on all levels.

    Great tour of the facility!!! I really like looking at the construction and the quality that goes into theses things.
    Since you asked about the dinette table, I would like to weigh in with my opinion here. I have an Open Range 319 RLS with a free standing dinette table and four chairs. In transit the floating island slides in beside the table and you stack four chairs on one side. Well, we tend to not use two chairs because it is just the two of us most of the time and they are in the house. I have looked and looked at that thing trying to figure out the configuration that would allow us to have the ability to use four chairs or a bench. I think this table configuration does it well. If you can move the bench and use it to put your feet up by the couch and then have two chairs at the dinette when you only want two chairs and then put it back to seat four, this makes it most versatile. It wouldn't work for me because of our floating island but I think this is a great way to add a little storage (presumably there is storage in the seat of the bench) and add a coffee table or foot rest to the couch for kicking up the feet in that situation as well. So, yes, I believe your customers would be benefitted from you ordering some of these and I wish I could have an option like that as well.
    As always, thanks for the great videos!!! Take care,
    Pat

    Hey Josh! Another great factory tour, loves these! It looks like Eagle glues the 3/8 roof decking down as well. If that is the case, how do they do that with the radiant barrier? Are they cutting and stuffing it between the rafters? If so, that is super impressive as I'm sure that takes way more time. I hope the White Hawk factory is included in this series! Would love to see how my 29BH Was put together. Thanks again!

    Excellent “show and tell” of Jayco efforts to produce quality Rvs. So much talk these days about how Thor’s acquisition of Jayco tanked the quality of the rigs. I seriously doubt that any such talk is true. What MAY affect quality however is the nature of the ted hot RV market and a “get em out the door” mentality. Our 2017 Eagle HT 28.5 RSTS has been wonderful. Great video. Thank you!

      That’s something I want to address in a future video
      Factory production is slow right now
      Due to shortages most brands are only working 2-3 days a week
      They *cant* overproduce right now
      I will never claim RV QC is where I want it, but I expected worse this year and have been pleasantly surprised

      They use a material called PMAX. It is a structurewood product, but that allows it to be a shape other than just flat and thicker as needed so it can ramp up/down more readily. It also holds more weight.

    Got a question for u Josh, at 7:24 u see a travel trailer frame and a fifth wheel frame sitting next to each other and they look identical until u get up to the upper deck and the gooseneck part of the frame of coarse but on the fifth wheel frame u can see where the 6 point leveling system is, why can’t u get that kind of system on a travel trailer? Seems like the only thing u can get on a travel trailer are those scissor jacks! And so that’s what my question is, frames are pretty much identical and u can get 6 point leveling on the fifth wheel but u can’t even get like a 4 point leveling system on a travel trailer?! It would be really nice if u could get those cylinder jacks on a travel trailer!!! Thank u sir and keep up the awesome work!!! And just wanted to say that I love these factory tours!!!!

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  3 года назад +1

      Most trailers aren't long enough to accept a 6pt leveling system. Auto leveling is virtually standard on all fifth wheels now, but still optional on most trailers.
      Many travel trailers now offer a power jacks option. The "upper class" trailers will begin to offer auto leveling

    Does anyone see the damage? @4:45 above the receiver hitch and to the left along the top flange, there appears to be an impact on the end piece causing a wrinkle on the top flange. And there seems to be a wrinkle where the end piece is welded to the I-beam that runs the entire length.

    • @Live_Concepts
      @Live_Concepts 3 года назад

      There were a couple of those chassis with damage. I’m guessing from transport. They stack them up 8-10 high on a flat deck to ship them to the assembly plants. That metal is a lot thinner than it looks and is easy manipulated. They hopefully bang it out before attaching the wood structure. However, I’m not sure those wrinkles would have much effect on the final product once all secured together.

    Josh: These factory tours are interesting and entertaining. But every time you post one of these, the thing that seems to be front and center (not including the travel trailers) is the lack of automation. As an engineer, you’ll have to admit that hand pushing trailers down the line is like a throwback to Ford’s first Piquette Avenue plant. Where are the C&C machines? Or the industrial robots for repetitive jobs? I’m seeing A LOT of intensive, costly hand labor on these floors. There must be a financial reason which escapes me otherwise the manufactures would have collectively already invested in automation. Because many trailer assembly plants are in predominately Amish areas, if you know, is this a cost of labor issue?
    But regardless, please keep up the factory tours as often as you can.
    Respectfully,
    WS

    • @JoshtheRVNerd

      Couldn’t tell you why they use labor vs automation. Only that they do

    • @chomp54321
      @chomp54321 3 года назад

      I agree with your observation. Some manufacturers do use CNC machines to cut openings for windows and doors, but that's the extent to which I know they use automation. I wonder if it is because there are so many floor plans to be produced on the same line, the time and cost to set up and retool for a batch of models may be too expensive per unit produced.

    I have a 2019 Jayco 321RSTS and we love that floor plan but the rear wall was found to be delaminated. It was still under warranty and Jayco did approved the replacement of the rear wall back in January but we still haven't heard nothing about Jayco sending the rear wall to the dealer for replacement as of today, April 8, camping season is upon us and we would like to use our $60+ thousands dollars 5th wheel to go camping.

    As with most RV’s, it’s all about the roof and other outside seals. If you have a 5 year old RV and you have never had a leak, you are one of the chosen ones. That’s why the majority of used RV reviews begin with the dreaded evidence of water damage and squishy floors, lol!

    • @JoshtheRVNerd

      @stevez340 3 года назад

      @@JoshtheRVNerd You of all people understand that RV’s have had a horrible quality control record for decades. I thinks it’s a cop out to just blame everything on yearly maintenance and not the manufacturers, as I have seen dozens of brand new trailers along with 2 and 3 year old trailers of all makes, including Jayco, with small to catastrophic leaks, and I know because I had one? It also doesn’t help when so many new RV’s do not have a ladder which makes it very difficult and unsafe for many owners, especially the elderly to get on their roof to maintain their trailer?
