Your work is fine, and a lot lot better then "MOT standard". I spent 2 hours welding up my old lawnmower deck last year, threw it together on a Sunday afternoon. An old Honda from the 90s, purchase cost £0. Can you imagine the vitriol!

I'm not bothered personally, I know what I'm doing is good, but welding does seem to bring out the trolls worse than any other subject in my experience

Yep iv come across same thing , measuring the individual fish scales why ? , its strength that counts , we used to braze in cages on rally cars you could not pull it apart ,

It seems to be welding specifically that makes everyone an expert! I'm always open to advice and love learning, but the trolling really grinds my gears

I've restored numerous cars over the last 40 years, butt welding (unless U spend days doing a small repair) is not perfect.as U said, the end result is a joint that varies in thickness and therefore strength.i butt weld on wing edges or doorskin sections at the ends, where there are panel gaps.a tiny overlap will always be stronger.ignore the armchair welders.

I'm pretty comfy with my welding/fabrication and techniques, but it does bring out the worst type of troll, weirdly worse than any other subject I get involved in lol

Tall people buy Spitfires because they can get in and out. Compare the door aperture size with that of a Midget or Sprite to see why.
