You didn’t mention electronic warfare systems. The key perhaps stands here. Dassault and Thales are well known to provide among the best electronic warfare systems. In a former red flag training, the F16 simply can’t lock its radar on a mirage 2000D due to ECMs. As in a mock combat between a rafale and a Su35, the Egyptian air force discovered that the rafale who was playing the target against its own Su35, has been able to defeat the Su35 detection and to shoot a mica off bore sight based on ECM data provided by SPECTRA system on the attacking Su35.
The Rafale/Su35 fight is a myth. It is now clearly established that none of the Su35 were ever delievered to Egypt. A mirage 2000 N k2 was shot down by bosnian Serbs in 1995 with a simple Strela manpad... The Mirage 2000 Nk2 was then state of the art in terms of counter measure due to the nuclear deterence mission. I think Dassaut make great fighters but what you tell is clearly wrong. Mirage 2000-5 outperforms the F16 C and D in air defense mission because of his superior manoeuvrability and the Mica missiles but as a multirole fighter F16 C and D outperform Mirage 2000-5. Only the Mirage 2000-9 can compare with F16 block 52+ as a multirole fighter but only UAE operates them.
@@BFOP15 A strela missile can shoot down any plane if its path is unfavorable, without enough time to detect the missile launch and fire flares, for example. Remember, an F117 has been short down by serbs using radar guided missile, although the plane was claimed to be stealth. It doesn't mean the plane was weak, but it shows that all system has a weak point. A strela missile is guided by IR seeker. It doesn't mean anything about ECM. The F117 was caught by a SAM radar with its bomb bay doors open, a point where its stealth characteristics were seriously compromised. A rare case of very bad luck for the Nighthawk.

The f16 block 70 is the best f16 in its class but most f16 out there are block 50 and some 60. The mirage 2000 is a good jet but when face block 70 the mirage 2000 will but at a disadvantage do to lack of upgrades. Ill have to say the mirage 2000-5 is a good comparison to block 50 and maybe even the 60 but block 70 not so much

@@lenkautsugi5747 I'm not talking about this training combat, I'm talking about the fact that both the F22 and the F35 design put all the eggs in the same basket "stealth" thinking the jet would be so invisible that he would basically shoot and go home without even having to fight... It would really depend on the rules of engagement but I would agree, in normal circumstances the F16 block 70 should be better, the 2000 might be better in a high altitude combat though; The best version of the Mirage 2000 is the 2000-9 with upgraded electronic sold to UAE (soon to be replaced by Rafale jets), what is missing to the Taiwanese Mirage 2000-5 is the capacity to fire MICA IR and the best electronic countermeasure system. However, Taiwanese pilots are really good with that plane while their pilots are still learning about the new block 70 F16 version so this could explain the results of the mock combat.
The remaining Mirage 2000-5 in the French army are 100% dedicated to air defence. Their pilots only train to air defence all the year long, so they are very skilled at it. If it was them against the F16, who train for multi role missions, the fight was unbalanced.
Training scenarios is NOT a way you can assess if a particular plane is better than another plane when looking from the outside. You have zero information about the condition of any particular scenario. In training you can have an A10 kill an F22... that has actually happened!!!! Mirage jets are quite capable and comparable to the F-16 in general terms. The different capabilities then also depend on the modernization of each craft. The newest F-16 probably are more capable than the newest Mirage 2000, but that is mainly because the Mirage have not received as modern an upgrade as the latest F-16 versions. In general these crafts are comparable in capabilities.
