I’ve lived in Clovis all of my life. Been to the lake numerous times throughout the years. Walked the damn, the trails and by the old school house. I’ve fished below the dam on the San Joaquin River at lost lake and driven past the ruins of the old cement bridge. Clovis Highs Track team use to run at Winchell Cove that was a workout. There is even a ghost story of a woman walking on Millerton road in a white dress. A very small cemetery many unmarked graves above the lake most reinturred here from Fort Miller. Lots of history up there.
I thought the name of the town before it was named Millerton was Rootville , because the gold miners used hollowed out wooden root burls for their gold pans.
@@onepercentpermile We didn't either until we did a deep dive into researching the place, found a newspaper from 1947 talking about the place. Really interesting stuff!
We can consider those places for future episodes, we're currently shooting Season 2 in Arizona, Utah, and parts of California but it will be a long road to 10,000!
no talk about the central valley project, and you totally missed talking about the Friant Kern Canal , please watch some California Gold Episodes and read books by Mark Arax .
Our videos are meant to give a brief history about a place, not as a tell-all story, we're not modeling our show after California Gold, we do an episode a week on a new place and go with the information we can find or are provided.
Pizza Factory! Fresno State!! I'm from Fowler and I just love all these small towns. Got a lot of memories in them or driving through them.
Yes! Fresno state is awesome, my dad is going to be teaching there now that he’s not the superintendent for Fresno, it’s pretty cool
Thank you for this wonderful piece. A great look at this little River town.
Glad you enjoyed it, we'll be taking a break this Sunday but the following week we'll be bringing you Mariposa.
God DAMN, that was good information. 👍
Thank you! Had to do a deep dive to find a lot of it!
Awesome! I always wondered about the history of that old bridge. Thanks for the great info and keep those videos coming! Love local history.
Thank you for being a part of it! We had to dig deep for the history on this place but it was a pretty interesting story once we found it.
Hey I watch your videos
Fishing is the best at the busted bridge...all the farm trout hide out there after release 👍👍👍👍
We'll keep that in mind if we ever go fishing here one day!
Very informative and interesting...good video btw..
Did a good job on video from a friant local.

It aparantly was named Twoville and Rootville at different points in history before being named Millerton.
@@TheTaleofCities Thank you, I did not know that.

My first home and school
1:20 Not because it was the easiest spot to cross the river? (before the dam, bridge, ferry)
Looks like Folsom
