    I've got a 2006 Acer Travelmate 2420 Win/Lin/Hackintosh laptop that still seemingly holds a full charge. It's pretty slow by today's standards. But it works. I bought it new back then and gave it away to 3 different people in my family who gave it back when they got a new one. Every now and then I pull it out to see how everything is holding up. Remarkable build quality for the time and a great match for classic mac OSX 10.4.8. Only needed a jumper in the VGA.

      I've got a 2012 acer laptop (don't even remember the model) that I bought before I was much into tech that I based the decision solely off of build quality. Every other laptop I tried had horrible deck flex and felt like it'd shatter if I just put my backpack down too hard, whereas the acer felt like a brick. It still holds up to this day, my brother used it as a media pc in our shop room while he did work for a home business for many years starting around 2016 to watch shows while he made stuff. Even now, I could probably go down there and boot it up and have it work just fine. Was only about $700, I used it to play games on for 3 years when I first bought it and it did a fair enough job (apart from sounding like a jet engine) think its rocking an i5, onboard graphics, and 8gb of ram or somethin. It might have had an SSD swapped in when my brother used it, but I can't remember. Think it was originally 500gb hdd.

      @@Dell-ol6hb I believe most people just didn't want to bother with the glasses, also the amount of content was restricted mostly to blu-rays at the time. It's a shame most 3D blu-rays are only available overseas now. Though there were some built in TV apps on the very last years 3D TV's were made that could stream 3D content. But with VR and gaming, I think glasses free 3D has a much better chance at becoming a thing, particularly useful for 3D modelers and graphics artist. It's especially bad because passive 3D would have been great with 4K TVs. 1080p was just too low for passive, and active 3D had some big design issues (though it'd work much better with the current 120hz TVs).
      LG made a couple of OLEDs up to 2016 that were 4K and passive 3D, and they're considered by far the best TVs for watching 3D content. Sadly, it came at a time when nobody wanted 3D anymore, and even if you buy one now it'll probably have serious burn-in.

    I would absolutely love for 3D to make a comeback.
    For privacy sake, I think machine learning working with a basic PiR motion detector signal would be better than a camera with eye tracking. Probably cheaper too in parts and compute. An amorphous blob of heat is likely plenty of data to center a 3D image.
    With only a slight risk that your amorphous off-axis viewing habits will get you sent to the Gulag.

    All I got out of this video is that Acer still needs to get with the times and stop putting barrel jacks for power on their laptops. Its so cheap to implement a 20v trigger module for power there are easy guides on how to retrofit one into an older laptop... they aren't saving any money on the power bricks over a GaN charger with a decent 100w C cable.

  • @Razor2048
    @Razor2048 9 месяцев назад

    The Aspire go 14 seems interesting, though they need to give the specs on the display. They also need to make the RAM user upgradable. Usually when traveling, I like using a cheaper low end laptop that is less painful to get broken. Aside from that 4GB is not enough RAM, especially if they plan to run windows 11, though I have largely settled on simply going for older gen laptops where old models where a used unit can offer a better specs and a better display for $200- 250.
    Beyond that, I have purchased super low end stuff as well, especially from the netbook days. For example, I still use an old Lenovo S21e (running a stripped down windows 10 install (all bloat removed, thus only using around 400MB of RAM at startup) which cost $129 back in 2015, since it is passively cooled, and the CPU is fast enough to handle audio recording, it works for handling a USB mixer and a few mics, and not having it raise the noise floor.
