100% agree. The only statement from him I saw from him so far is you can’t do two externals screens on a MacBook. But if I remember well, on Macaddress that problem was debunked and solved. I love how some of these computers make Apple’s tech look cheap in comparison and Apple is pricy AF. And with my personal experience with HP, I wouldn’t give them another penny no matter how “solid”-which is a very generous term-their tech is. Anytime I’ve dealt with HP, I feel misery but that $2,7-something starting price for those specs ain’t worth it. But sense these laptops generally target enterprise customers who’s money isn’t an issue, I’m sure it would be at benefit. I just would’ve trust HP for anything unless you hate yourself
I echo the horrendous dealings with HP. Trying to get a workstation laptop that actually worked from them was a hassle and a half. Had to send it in TWICE for overheating problems, then when i got it back the 2nd time they called me and told me I needed to perform a BIOS update(They didn't even do it themselves!) which made the problems WORSE. They ended up sending a tech to my house to repair it. Man had to just replace the motherboard with a replacement, and it ended up working better after that. Not perfect, but at least it wasn't overheating anymore. But lots of money to mail it in for repairs and lots of wasted time when I could've been working for school just made it not worth it. Even with a Quadro P5000 in it, it was too much hassle and my desktop at the time was pretty close to equivalent. So I sold it and bought myself a decent gaming laptop instead, with some money leftover.
The most surprising part of this video is learning that people actually use the media keys on windows lol. I actually hate how many laptops don't allow you to set the function keys to default to just being normal function keys, I hate when I go start a debug session or use some shortcut I'm used to and the laptop suddenly starts playing some random media or opens the browser.
Having the function row default to the function keys or having something like fn-lock is a must have for me. Even for non-developers the function keys are super important for text editing and spreadsheets, and gaming as well.
These things are amazing for work, I use an elite book that is slightly larger and I'm trying to upgrade to one of these. A light weight laptop that fits into my purse is vital when I need to hustle across the building to make that last minute meeting. Guys might be able to get away with a hoodie, backpack, and sneakers; I wear a suit, a nice handbag, and heels.
Or you could just…carry your laptop? I can’t think of any work meeting where I’ve shown up and women had purses at all, let alone ones they were carrying laptops in. They just took carried them to the meeting. The only purpose I could see of needing to carry it in your purse is if you were traveling to meet an external party for a meeting, and in that case 99% of the time it would not be appropriate for a guy to be wearing a hoodie and sneakers. Nice try with the “men bad, woman life harder” schtick though.

Hp are definitely getting it right business wise, company I work for have been changing over from surface laptop 3's to hp (similar to this laptop but a generation older, with I want to say better performance and like... Half the price if you were to buy it outright... ) the screen is worse than the surface but everything else is just better. If you're in the office they have 27" monitors with usbc power delivery and they will supply you with a monitor at home as well so I'm pretty sure most people are hardly using the laptop screen so it works well for us (also I assume it's a cheaper contract, the buy price was like 1-200 less than the updated surface). Though I do miss that alcantara finish.
Alex, we in India have this laptop from Fujitsu called UH-X. It is apparently superlight at under 900gms for the Intel Core i5 models. If possible, do make a ShortCircuit video about that laptop if you can ever get your hands on one. Apparently an entirely assembled and made in Japan product.
I have an XPS13 9370 dev, and everytime I hear someone complain about the new XPS I check if it's an issue on my laptop and it seems like it never is (except the USB A thing, But I'm wiling to give them a pass on that). Dell is apperently just regressing with the XPS line.
I really don’t know what I’m missing. Except for Excel, I generally feel more productive and it’s more pleasant living in the macOS environment. Windows and macOS are both fairly mediocre operating systems at the end of the day…
Honestly over the past few years I've noticed that LMG has become less of what it used to be and more pointing out things that the specific narrator doesn't like, things that have seemingly no significance or opinions that are quite literally 1 percenters. These also keep changing narrator to narrator. You can't come to these group of channels expecting simple and unbiased information and instead you have to deal with keeping in mind something like "Oh it's Riley today he isn't as polished in the tech aspect of things, I better watch out"
MacOS is pretty nice once you sort out the preferences and install a few utilities. Windows has a lot of janky stuff that’s been left in the OS for the sake of compatibility e.g. multiple layers of settings menus and device management interfaces. If you don’t need specific windows-only apps then MacBooks make a lot of sense for work, especially now that Apple put good processors in their entry models and Windows alternatives have similar pricing. It used to be a totally different market dynamic.
Y'know, I've used MacOS so long that I am pretty used to it, and I'm not sure what the intense hate is for, especially when Windows is in such a scattered, sorry state at the moment. Probably the walled garden, the weird limitations... maybe I just don't game as much as most. But it's really a lot of personal preference. It initially annoys me when hosts on LTT just trash MacOS, but I get over it pretty quick when I think about it for more than a second and go on using what I like to use. *shrug*
OK? Sure, that kinda sucks, but I can count on one hand the times I've had to do that. MacOS isn't garbage because of that one feature missing. You just personally don't like it because it's missing that feature.
why do you need so many pixels on such a small screen? and why people love the square ratios so much? The black bars when watching videos are depressing
I've got the 2020 Envy X360 with the 4000 series Ryzen, and for the most part I think I have all the benefits you got with this one here, but I also have a pen-enabled touchscreen that has a transflective layer so I can turn off the backlight in direct sunlight and still see everything while using almost no power. Also I think my games run better. Oh, and it was $800 last year on sale.
@Tango_sixteen I needed something fairly quickly and the amoled screen is amazing at 1080 on 13". I got it £400 lower than RRP from a reputable retail company. I'm really happy with it.
Yes but a dedicated pause/play button works on media that is playing in a window that isn’t the active one e.g. when you’re working on a spreadsheet and you have Spotify playing in the background. To use the space at pause you’d have to navigate to the Spotify windows then hit space bar. Pause button works without having to go to the Spotify window.
There is the Elitebook 845 G9 and Elitebook 865 G9. You can get it with a Ryzen 6800U, and it has USB4 support. The screen is not 3:2, but it's 16:10 (1920x1200), and the RAM is replaceable, unlike most Ryzen 6000 series laptops.
Suggestion for future reviews: Add a webcam test that determines how well the setup handles people with darker complexions. I tried a recent Lenovo that worked great for my ghost-like visage but was essentially unusable for anybody with skin browner than a paper bag.
I thought the space bar was always for Pause/Play? I've never had those function keys either, and I use HP, MSI, Dell, and Lenovo laptops daily for various purposes.
What does Alex needs on a laptop for CES that the macbook can't do? If he got an M1/M2 Macbook Air the battery would last forever with just researching and writing scripts. It would also be cheaper. Seems like he's just not used to MacOS, so he calls it garbage haha
i use a HP ZBook as a Work Device. I honestly think after owning a XPS a MacBook of several generations. The modern HP Keyboards in their notebooks are so good, that I minimally do almost no mistakes while using it. Though I am a German and use an ISO Layout QWERTZ which is a good standard for us which is not apparent for US keyboards because they are generally ANSI Layout and that just annoys me to the moon.
0:33 How does a 3:2 display compare to a 16:10 (shouldn't that be 8:5?) ? In my head there shouldn't be much of a difference, but I lack the practical experience with either (I don't think I've used a 16:10 in years, and I've never owned one).
No, it is not exceptional if it has a trashy screen, chipset that can be described as "meh" and at the same time it costs around 4k. It is ridiculous price and not that great value for money.
I cant tell you how happy I was to finally see a laptop with battery seeming to be its focus only to have my dreams ruined due to this having a worse price tag than the surface lineup

As a mainly long term Windows user, I would say MacOS is really quite okay. It’s optimization and stability is amazing (which of course it should be since it’s only running on a small number of Apple controlled devices). You just need to get used to it, it’s limitations and possibilities, learn a complete new workflow from program management to shortcuts, investigate and discover all the handy tools and apps (that make MacOS better or are alternatives for their Windows counterparts) etc. For real basic stuff MacOS may be “user friendly”, and “accessible”, but for power users the learning curve coming from Windows is steep. (Well… at least it’s more consistent than the hot mess Windows 10/11 bring.) All this is hard and unpractical if u have work that needs to get done. I think that is Alex’s problem.

One of the things about the Function keys missing a Play/Pause key should be mentioned. Seeing as this laptop is oriented at business/corporate use (like the Elitebook series), there is probably no need for media keys. No business laptop below 15,6" (ThinkPads, Elitebooks, Latitudes) have them to my knowledge (whereas ThinkPads at 15,6" usually have them above the numpad). HP doesn't have the F2 key assigned to any function key to my knowledge to allow for easy file renaming. Having used refurbished business laptops a lot, a clear F2 key is so beneficial to not have to press Fn + F2 every time I want to use the keybind to rename a file.
Someone mentioned that this channel discussed a problem I have with the Dragonfly G3 & Windows Hello. I've set up the laptop to never be put to sleep when plugged in. Still, as soon as I leave the laptop (when plugged in), Windows Hello locks the screen (fine!) and puts the laptop to sleep (very, very bad!!!). WHY? I don't want to have to sit in front of the laptop for one hour while the laptop generates an mp4 file from a video!!! But if I leave the laptop, the screen locks, and when I come back after one hour, nothing has happened during my absence. Is this a Windows Hello problem? Or is it an added "feature" from HP?

Now that we know what we need to know about it, you more than welcomed to compare it to every laptop you see as a competitor (as Alex did at random times during the duration of the video)
Alex is a nice guy and we know him from his first days here, but on a review I don't like him talking like he is talking to his friends, but to people that he doesn't know, as all reviews do everywhere VOD or written.
I don't know how many people will read, or care about my two cents, but as a long time viewer (6 years) I want the channel to get better and not worst.
ShortCircuit is not a review channel. They only do first impressions unboxing.
@@bgezal Yes, that's what i m talking about, not about benchmarks, but imagine your first impressions on a store. First thing you see is price, second the specs, third you may ask someone about experience. I want the videos to feel like a walk to a store, not a technical review
and it took us about 10 minutes to get inside the store and look at the laptop...
5:30 That’s frankly the worst screen wobble I’ve ever seen, that would annoy the hell out of me. You weren’t even touching any part of the laptop at that point.
One thing I notice is that the screen lid shakes a lot - whereas the MacBooks have always had very solid screen stability

(Obviously joking)
Yaaa that was driving me nuts. Even in further away shots you could tell it was shaking like crazy.
That's HP for you, garbage hinges
It's one of those small things that matters a lot. My old laptop was like that and I made sure my new didn't.
You shaking your laptop often? I certainly do not. I had the flappiest screen of all time on Yoga 730, and it only bothered me like 2 times in the past 5 years. I really don't understand what is your use case if flappy display is something of importance for you. Maybe working on a train or bus, but that's it.
6:10 Every keyboard has a pause/play button. It's called the space bar.
Doesn't a software controlled privacy shutter on the webcam defeat the purpose of a privacy shutter?
No because you can actually see if it's active or not. If the shutter is on top of the camera, no software can look trough it.
This made me like my $1000 MacBook Air even more.
Yup. The M1 and M2 Air are basically this laptop but a grand or more cheaper. They also look much nicer.

I would like Alex to make his own dedicated video explaining why "MacOS is garbage" - I feel like being sponsored to showcase a product, and being sent that product for free, should be subject to the same impartial journalism as anything else, and a brash statement like that needs some further explanation.
Having watched a decent number of their videos, it mostly boils down to "they don't use macos enough"
I agree, I know he doesn’t like macOS but there have never been any details. It seems all his complaints would not be an issue on Mac. I am guessing he just like to hate on Mac without any actual reason.
@@RohanaChris I'd bet it's the apple hate for their repair stance.
100% agree. The only statement from him I saw from him so far is you can’t do two externals screens on a MacBook. But if I remember well, on Macaddress that problem was debunked and solved.
When a 4000$ laptop is the only winner against a 2000$ MacBook. At that price, the MacBook is a no-brainer.
He needs a 30-day MacBook challenge.
Well what do you expect this channel knows their audience are Apple haters and therefore do everything they can to cater to them. They know that if they tell the truth about MacOS they would alienate the PC gamer audience. So far I have not seen any laptop that even comes close to the balance the Mac lineup provides, meaning not just performance but also efficiency, build quality, etc. They also never mention how windows laptop's performance absolutely tanks when unplugged, while Macbooks do not lose any performance. Well I guess they can enjoy their Windows Modern Standby lol.
the F2 key is set aside for HP's privacy filter (Sureview panel). I would imagine if you got a model with that on the display the keyboard would have the F2 key labelled as such.
I still want to see Anthony do a series of videos on running Linux (Fedora, Ubuntu, Mint, Arch) on superior hardware like this. Which machine is the best one to remove windows and install the Penguin?
I noticed a lot of screen wobble in the video. Is it comaparble to other laptops or is it worse?

I'd geniunely love to know why you couldn't use a MacBook Air for CES? If it's simply displaying scripts as you said, it would be fine with that and the battery is phenomenal.

Nobody tell Alex spacebar functions as pause/play. It'll be funny.
Yeah but not when spotify is running in the background
You can configure the touchpad so a tap with 4 fingers will pause/play and 4 finger slide will change volume
Hi, Alex! I'm guessing LG didn't invite you to their booth to take a look at the new Gram line up?
I picked up the M1 MacBook Pro 14" brand new for $1,599. Even though I prefer Windows, I can't find any other laptop that is better value than that.
Exactly...I'm a Windows user too, but it's hard to beat a MacBook. You won't find a better display, probably the best speakers out there, os support on devices for years and better security.
Preferences aside-MacBooks have some clear strengths with battery life, camera, standby, screen, sound, performance, trackpad, thermals, quiet, and ports are back.
That notch is an eyesore, though, and has no place on a laptop.

I got the hp aero 13 with the r5 and 16gb of ram. I have adjusted to tdp to 8w and man this thing lasts so long
I love how some of these computers make Apple’s tech look cheap in comparison and Apple is pricy AF.
Sometimes you can switch the default to function keys in the bios, maybe try that if you're having this problem.
Having the function row default to the function keys or having something like fn-lock is a must have for me. Even for non-developers the function keys are super important for text editing and spreadsheets, and gaming as well.
If I remember correctly, you can use fn lock in thinkpad to make sure those function keys stay f1-f12
I've literally never, ever in my entire life used a pause/play button on a laptop. Then again, never used airplane mode on a laptop either.
Most audio/video progs use spacebar as a pause/play button

That much screen wobble is unforgivable in any laptop more than $600
That thing is basically a $4,000 Chromebook
The matte screen is just terrible. And the price is truly ridiculous.
just use powertoys to remap the f2 key to pause/play
Wait, are you telling me there are people who DON'T use the spacebar or mouse for pause/play? 6:17
Those special hotkeys can usually pause a video/song that's not in the current widow, unlike the spacebar.
You tell me you don't multitask?
@@AzVfL Unfortunately not with RUclips. If I wanna internalize something, I need to give it my full, undivided attention. Good points all around, though 👈👆👉👇

With how long Force Touch has been around (since 2016) in Apple products, any touchpads that are not haptic are a no-go for me, let alone "phenomenal".
Once you've experienced the ability to click with consistent feedback anywhere on the touchpad, there's no going back.
Why would you need a pause/play when you click with three fingers the trackpad and does the same thing?
I wondered what the problem with modern standby is as I always have my surface on battery saving mode ^^
They did a whole video about that issue and how to fix it, a month ago, on the LTT channel.
I love that under the glass webcam shutter, it's the slickest solution I've ever seen (that, or physically disconnecting the wires).
starting at almost $3k USD... what the literal fack? At that price point, it BETTER be among the best, jeeze. And that also means you had ZERO business comparing it to the surface pro laptop 5, which starts nearly $2k cheaper...
Just ordered the i7 version for €1500. Pretty sure Alex didn't check the prices.
I feel like gaming laptops would have a lot better performance to price ratio
Alex, we in India have this laptop from Fujitsu called UH-X. It is apparently superlight at under 900gms for the Intel Core i5 models. If possible, do make a ShortCircuit video about that laptop if you can ever get your hands on one. Apparently an entirely assembled and made in Japan product.
halfway in the video i click on the link to buy it, curious about the price. I closed both the shop and the video.
I have an XPS13 9370 dev, and everytime I hear someone complain about the new XPS I check if it's an issue on my laptop and it seems like it never is (except the USB A thing, But I'm wiling to give them a pass on that). Dell is apperently just regressing with the XPS line.
You can pause/play by tapping with four fingers if your laptop doesn't have a button for it
I really don’t know what I’m missing. Except for Excel, I generally feel more productive and it’s more pleasant living in the macOS environment. Windows and macOS are both fairly mediocre operating systems at the end of the day…
Holy resolution batman. That webcam is amazing. Good job HP. Dang
Honestly over the past few years I've noticed that LMG has become less of what it used to be and more pointing out things that the specific narrator doesn't like, things that have seemingly no significance or opinions that are quite literally 1 percenters. These also keep changing narrator to narrator. You can't come to these group of channels expecting simple and unbiased information and instead you have to deal with keeping in mind something like "Oh it's Riley today he isn't as polished in the tech aspect of things, I better watch out"
4000 bucks for a crap 1080p screen and slow CPU? Alex is insane.
*shrug*
@@GP1138 MacOS doesn't natively support volume changing for individual programs. It is that garbage.
OK? Sure, that kinda sucks, but I can count on one hand the times I've had to do that. MacOS isn't garbage because of that one feature missing. You just personally don't like it because it's missing that feature.

I'm pretty sure you can remove the heat shield over the SSD. I did it on my two HP laptops and it worked fine.

Does Alex even know that he can use Spacebar to pause/play?
Yes but a dedicated pause/play button works on media that is playing in a window that isn’t the active one e.g. when you’re working on a spreadsheet and you have Spotify playing in the background. To use the space at pause you’d have to navigate to the Spotify windows then hit space bar. Pause button works without having to go to the Spotify window.
I will probably buy this in 8 years from now.
Not sure if HP quality is okay. I used to have two HP in office and they just broken down right after warranty expires
Looks nice! Whished it had an AMD version of it.
They showed the HP Dragonfly Pro at CES and that was supposedly the consumer version of this and it will be cheaper.

"Hey look it's a windows laptop that's competetive with the macbook pro" - very interesting
"It's twice the price" - ah. but of course.
DBrand doesn't even sell skins for HP laptops, WTF?!
Oh come on. What software doesn't let you use the space-bar as pause/play?
Alex as usual reminding me that I have small hands (or his are huge). I've always found 13" is a good size for typing (unless they try to cram a numpad in there).

I’m not a Mac guy, but I’d rather buy a MBP for half the price.
Why so much hate on MacOS? It is pretty comparable with windows and both have their pros and cons
Please let Alex do a personal opinion video on macOS, would be great!

It's good and all, exceeeeeeept. It's HP.
My experience with hp :
Bought a laptop in 2017, in 1 week HDD died. in 5 months battery and cooler died.
in 2019 I bought "Hp Gaming" it was called something like that. Brightness was really dim as if it was on battery efficiency mode. 1 USB port was dead. no it was not windows or drivers. It had issues. The shop replaced it. second one had same issues, except now 2 USB ports were not working. Replaced again, brightness was not an issue but again USB port not working. Eventually I got asus.
2020 My neighbour bought a laptop, GPU died in 3 months. Another gaming laptop. HP omen series.
in 2021 some of my friends asked me to help them solve issues with laptop, most of them were lenovo and HP.
So no thank you.
Huh?!?? Nearly 4k … for this…?
Dude lg gram 14 is sturdy cause its smaller than the 16 and has a 20hr battery and has a much better screen
