Chow, after watching your videos on this topic I was able to determine my tensioner pulley was trashed. I tried to purchase a new one from the dealer but they could only sell me the whole pulley assembly with a much smaller pulley attached. I took option B' and took the old pulley to Napa and they were able to cross check the part number with the last four digits of the VIN and match it up with a new pulley of the same dimensions. This saved me a lot of extra cost and time. The pulley measured 102mm in case anyone needs that info. Thanks again for a huge assist!
I'm not overly mechanically inclined. I watched your video last night, bought parts this morning (serpentine belt and idler pulley), ultimately took me 23 minutes! Thumbs up and a subscription! Good stuff man.
Both my belt and tensioner were completely worn out. The belt even fell off, so my service light lit up and my engine started heating up right away. This video helped me replace them, and my car works again. Thank you!
Thank you for your vids you saved me $600 bucks so far this month. flushed my own radiator, did this and a couple other minor things. again thank you for sharing
do you have any idea how many times i've had my blinker fluid changed for the discounted price of $50 instead of $75 after arguing with the shop? now i can do it all by myself
1. Chris, nice vid. 2. If pulley is expensive for your model, you can replace just the bearing. 3. The other pulleys are grooved. Be sure when putting belt back on that it is in the right grooves.
Buying the right tool for the job will save you time messing about by having to remove the wheel . I remember my last mechanic years ago taking my wheel off because he didn't have the correct tool and struggled with a rachet trying to get in there My belt snapped last week , got the breakdown out and he got me home, said I'd need a new tensioner and belt obviously, watched this and bought the tool. Took a lady like myself just over 30 mins to do Thanks for the video Saved me a few pennies at the garage 🤌
Chris, Thought I would mention that it would have helped me had you mentioned that the pulley bolts are reverse threaded. Love your channel, you get right to the point and don't waist my time. you've helped me a lot over the last few years. Keep on truckin my friend.

Left handed bolts are usually marked with notches on the corners of the hex. Take a look at a propane gas bottle and you'll have the imagine in your head for future ref
Thanks so much for this video. I was able to eventually talk myself into trying this vs getting a mechanic to help me out with this. I got a quote for 650 bucks to change the serpentine belt and pulley. Smh, I decided to try my hand at this and successfully identified the Idler Tensioner Pulley and changed it in 4 minutes time with a simple, in stock purchase of 26 bucks at Advanced Auto. Turns out my serpentine belt was fine as it only had 5000 miles on it. It blew my mind that one bad bearing in a Idler Pulley was causing all that noise and performance issue. Thanks a million sir! 👊
Thanks for this (I have a similar aged Ranger). I found the video about 1 day late. I kept hearing the chirping sound from the front and on a ride yesterday the idley pulley bearing seized and sheared the belt. I pulled over immediately before I boiled the engine. I used this video and the replacement of the serpentine belt video for instructions to fix this today with a minimum of fuss. Many thanks
This is by far the best and described, clear video DIY tensioner belt change! I am replacing my a/c compressor, power steering pump, pulley and belt on my '99 Dodge Dakota. Great video!!!
Wow! You do an excellent job on instructional videos! I just watched this one and the other about the engine squeak and completely understand everything you said! With the right tools, I feel I can go fix the squeak myself, although not sure I could get the belt off by myself. I am probably two to 3 times your age, female and my hands hands have quite a bit of arthritis in them these days but I have done a lot of things under my own hood. Thanks a lot for making such a great easy to understand video that even a gramma like me can use!
I had that same exact squeaking noise on my 98 ford ranger v6 3.0. I changed the idler pulley after the water trick the squeak came back. Next thing to change the belt tensioner pulley and the squeak was still there. All the pulleys were all in line and the belt didn't not move back and forth as shown in the video. Replaced the belt and it still squeaked. So finally I replaced the belt tensioner assembly. The old belt belt tensioner assembly pin on the back was broken therefore causing the belt to have less tension on it. After I installed the belt tensioner pulley assembly no more squeaking irritating noise.
I had one where the harmonic balancer rubber was shrunk and the inner and outer parts were slipping. I found it when I tried to set the timing and saw that my old marks were way off.
I looked up the tensioner for the Ranger.. it's P/N 89233 Dayco. Of course, there are other brands. Google a picture of it and you will see that its held on with only one bolt. I think you should be able to find a video to do the rest.
If I had watched your video on how to diagnose squeal, I would have not had to watch this video lol. The tensioner pulley on my 1996 Ford Windstar actually cracked in half, and does not spin anymore, so I think instead of taking it to the mechanic (I took it to the mechanic 3 other times for the belt slipping off, they didn't fix the tensioner which has been squealing for the last 30,000 miles), I'm going to fix it myself. Thanks for this awesome vid!!!
+Janet Irby-Miller, I cannot reply to your comment so I hope you see this. If they want $170 for just the pulley, they are crazy! You can get just the pulley for cheap ($25 or less depending on the car). If they want that for the tensioner installed, that is about an hours labor so the price is what it is. You can do it yourself easily for $50 like you said.
If that's a junkyard that has already taken the part off the cart that might be worth doing. Otherwise parts are cheap enough for most old cars that you're better off just buying it new online.
I was driving my car the battery light came on then my car started overheating I pull over and my serpentine belt came off I put it back on and it does the exact same thing is this just the tension pulley or something else and if it is the pulley do I need a whole new tensionpulley for 70$ or just get the new pulley for 27$? Please reply fast
well made video and I appreciate the time you took. I talked a car salesman down 2k on the asking price for a 2008 Frontier because of the belt squeak. the mechanic said 150 and its looking like I'll be doing it for 60 and project time with my girl lol!
thank you for this, it's helping me with my Mazda3 right now. that pulley's bearing had its plastic cover explode off of it last night, and this is helping me fix it by replacing it. Thanks again!
a shop by my house wants to charge 100$ for labor (1 hour) to change my belt tensioner for my benz, and 100$ for the part. So i went to amazon bought the part for 50$ (belt tensioner specific to my car model) and saw your video, and 150$ saved. Thanks a lot man subbed and liked
I like the way you present the job in the video. Very easy to understand and you zoomed the camera correctly. I appreciate what you have shown. Thank you.
+Estiann du Plessis, I cant reply to your comment directly so I hope you see this. For my car, you can see in the video I loosen the bolt the normal counter-clockwise direction. Sometimes the pulley will have written on it which direction is loosen. Fan clutches have the direction to loosen and tighten written on them all of the time.
hello mr..belting sound of my car but i do not know whether the noise was from belting alternator, aircond or power steering.how for us to know it?please share...huhu
+ChrisFix can a bad Tensioner Pulley cause a ticking sound? I have a 2000 Chrysler Sebring JXi that Ticks like a time bomb at idle and low speeds but at about 30MPH+ the ticking is intermittent....I have no idea what it is but everyone says I need a new engine. No one has actually looked at it or traced where the sound is coming from all they do is listen. The sound is coming from the side of the engine compartment near the belts.....
I got my Serpentine Belt replaced and the the one that was in my car broke while taking it off and so the mechanic put in a used one and now when I drive a certain types of miles it makes a noise, The Serpentine belt is new and it used to not make any noise
Thank you for the excellent video I wish I had watched your videos. It might have saved me a mjor part of $1500 repair bill My AC quit working recently ( not a problem per se, because I rarely turn it ON), and shortly there after, there was a constant noise from the A/C compressor area. A mechanic at the dealership said the"noise" was from the compressor pully and the compressor was "shot"; which I expected. They did not have a new( its a 10 + year old Subaru Forester, so it would probably have been a RMF compressor , I think)Compressor in stock so they would "order" one in. In the mean time he said I could frive the vehicle for shorter periods( like 20 km at a time, he said) The next day my serpentine belt poped and could not drive the vehicle. They replaced the compressor and belt for $1500 ! The same dealership mechanic said the AC compressor caused the serpentine belt to break Is their explanation credible in your humble opinion Thank you
On the Chevy 3.5 V6 is counterclockwise to take the tension off the serpentine belt Chris. You may want to add depending on your vehicle it may be clockwise or counterclockwise.
Chris.. My local parts shop has great 30 to 40 percent discounts for internet orders pick up in store. That said, vid is great. I always replace the idler at the same time.. I found that if one is worn the other is right behind it. I love how many shops sell power steering pumps for bad pulleys..Keep the DIY's coming.
On a car that has 80,000 miles or more they recommend to change the tensioner to not just the pulley. Can you please explain how to change the tensioner as well thank you
Awesome video man. I have this squeaky problem in my Saturn now right after I turn it on, and then it goes away after I start driving. Going to see if this works and then report back.
ChrisFix The serpentine belt that was put in the car was the wrong type and thus, it was too wide! Got the right size now and the car runs perfectly. Thanks for these videos man, SUPER informative! Makes me want to learn more about cars.
Great! Glad you fixed the problem and I am glad you want to learn about cars. Def check out my videos (I try to make them concise and educational so anyone can follow along). It is good to learn about something you use every day!
I am having this problem with my saturn sl1. The belt squeaks but insanely loud when I turn on the ac and have it in drive. I know it's not the belt because I had that replaced thinking it was the problem. You made this look very easy and I am thinking of taking a crack at it. Firestone wants 250 to fix it... Lil outrageous. Thanks for the vid and helping others in these situations.
Thanx buddy you helped me to find the problem in my car I been putting many stuff on my belt thinking that was the issue and even with the new belt was the same thanx again champ
Great Video as always, These are great trucks still running strong. I recently bought a 1999 ranger xlt with the 3.0 It has 199000 miles and I ran into the same problem with the idler pulley squeaking, So I removed it it is the original, I cleaned the bearing removed the seal on both sides and repack it with high temp grease, put it back on and is nice and quiet. I have a replacement on order but we'll see how long this fix last. I thought I share this mod as a temporary fix while waiting for a replacement. Cheers..
Nice Job. Tried the spray bottle test on my sons '71 C10 pickup with a serpentine system crate motor and we thought we had the tension pulley pegged making the noise. It ended up being the idle pulley, but saved us time and $!
You forgot to mention the part where you have to push the tensioner all the way down to its maximum tension or “radius” so that when you’re tightening the new one on, you’re not just going up and down against tension and you’re actually tightening it so that the pulley doesn’t fly off when you’re going 60 mph on the freeway👍🏼
Dorman Products makes an "Anti-Slip Shield" for the tensioner pulley it also fits on the idler pulley. The Dorman part number is 82570 available at most parts stores for about $6-$8 . The shield comes with a replacement bolt which is slightly longer than the originals used to compensate for the thickness of the shield. To install loosen the tension on the belt then, unbolt the pulley discard the OEM bolt. Next insert the new bolt through the shield, through the pulley then tighten. Once in place flex the tensioner then slide the belt in place. I use the shield on both pulleys and the problem of the belt slipping off is eliminated.
Hi Chris, I have a 2006 Honda CRV that is making noise like this...I've bought the Gatorback belt via Amazon Direct and saved money as follows; 1) $69.25 vs. $11.28 from Amazon...so that's a huge savings: $57.97!!! this is an 83% cost savings.....ridiculous. I also saved $150 dollars on self installation; and I am NOT a prof. mechanic...it took me 40 minutes with a 14mm, 10mm sockets, wrench, a long screw driver, and a short #2 screw driver to pull the "button" connectors (save them for reinstallment underneath the wheel well). Savings on this tiny job: $150 + ~$58 = $208 2) any difference in your experience from "your demo" vehicle to the 2006 Honda, with respect to spacers on the Honda tensioner bearing please? We all need to save money on OEM parts...money is too hard to come by today to give ownership a 300-500% markup on parts. NOTE this everyone.
IMPORTANT NOTE: On different applications the bolt that holds the pulley to the tensioner doesn't always have right hand threads. The bolt will come loose in the direction opposite of tensioner adjustment. That may seem like common sense but I couldn't remove mine because it was so tight and had limited room to swing a ratchet or wrench. I had to remove the tensioner assembly so I could get some ass on it.
Your videos are the best man!!…Extremely helpful and very acurate. Always right to the point…. with clear presentations!! Thanks for taking the time to teach my friend!!
The wine might be the power steering pump. I am actually working on a video right now that will be done by Monday on how to flush the power steering pump. I will make a video on how to get rid of the wine right now and try to get it done tonight for you.
rabzow sturridge chipaz Thanks! Glad the video was helpful. What are you talking about I fast forwarded putting the belt back on? The serpentine belt is already already mostly on and then you just slip the belt around the pulley. That clear it up?
Hi Chris, I have a Ford too and although I don't like doing it, I know how, and will save my self a little money. But will be replacing the alt. Thanks for the video.
Hi Chris, can you use the belt tensioner tool on ANY pulley and take the belt off or does it have to ALWAYS be the tension pulley (I feel it is a dumb question as I write it). 1. How do I identify the tension pulley? 2. Does the belt around the tension pulley remove all belts (I don't know if it is one long serpentine belt around all pullies or separate belts). 3. You always talk about this milimeter socket and that milimeter socket. Say if I hve to go shop for ratchets and sockets, how will I know in advance what milimeter socket I need for what bolt (this is a generic car question, not specific to pulleys? Again, you are a source of joy for people like me who feel ignorant in front of auto mechanics.
Steve Smith That is not a dumb question, it is a good one! Your belt tensioner is the only pulley that will move. It is spring loaded. You have to remove that pulley to remove the belt. On most cars it is just a single serpentine belt but some cars do have multiple belts. Here is a socket set that will have all of the sizes you will need so you can have all the different millimeter sockets: amzn.to/1EEvPQF
Hiram Mendoza Awesome! Glad the video was helpful and you saved a lot of money! New automotive 'how to' videos every Thursday and most Mondays so stay tuned!
I love your videos. They help me out and save me mucho money. I have a problem. I have a 1997 Hyundai Accent. I need to change the alternator belt but i cant figure it out because it has 3 belts. In order to change the alternator belt i need to remove the other 2. The car doesn't have a diagram. Do you know where can i get a diagram. I will like to change the belt myself. I dont want to take it to a shop. Please helpppppppp.
My new pulley on my 06 TL is rattling. I just installed it the same way, and now my engine is shakier (probably cause i need a tune up but its shakier now then before) and it has a loud rattle right on the new pulley. i used a stethoscope to see where it was coming from. Definitely the new pulley is rattling hard)
ChrisFix Yes im 100% sure. when i put my stethescope to the pulley bolt i hear it. and when i put my finger on the bolt i feel it rattle. this happened as soon as i replaced the bearing. when i spraed some wd40 on the bolt it felt like the rattle went away.
I check the belt like a you said. Get a new one problem solve thanks bro you video help a lot of people very informative. You have a new subscribe lucky I got the same truck you have.
If I can and have managed everything from tune ups to rebuilding a carb to switching out a solenoid to oil changes on various types of vehicles, I am pretty confident i can handle this as well! I was just unsure if, even tho I don't intend to remove the entire belt, I would have to have some special tool to get it back to a certain torque or anything like that.
Well fixing to find out only now, I have to put the belt back as the pulley finally kicked the bucket and threw it. First thing out was power steering so I pulled over to take the belt off and when I started it back up, the check gauges light came on, the temp gauge was way high and the oil gauge sunk to zero. Had no choice but to throw the hazards on and crawl home strong arming it thru any turns and curves, lol. Does the story change now that the entire belt had to be removed?
and after I look up which way to wind it all around where and what, LOL! Haven't even been able to attempt removing the bolt thanks to the heavy down pour. Arrrgh!!
Peter Dudek It sounds like it has something to do with either the tensioner spring, the belt, or the power steering pump. Is the belt new? It could have stretched out over time. The tensioner spring could be worn out so the belt isnt tightly against the pulleys. Or the power steering pump is not functioning correctly and the belt slips over it. I would try the water trick and let me know what happens: How to fix a squeaky belt (figure out where the squeak is coming from)
Thanks for the video! I have a question: my pulley is bend, it doesnt squeek too much but i dont know if I have to change just the pulley or the tensioner?....because the belt gets off once in a while and now more often, it dont look like the belt is jumping but the pulley dont look straight either...
you don't need that fancy long ratchet , i use a regular ratchet with a 13mm socket i think it was 13 mm. Just align the fan so that you can fit your hand and ratchet with socket on then release tension while holding down on ratchet , slip belt off and pull it around the fan and your done !
ChrisFix, I was wondering if you'll do a video on how to replace the fan. I don't have a car or anything, I just think it'd be interesting for someone with a broken fan for example.
i honestly wish i would have watched this video before i took my car to the shop i feel cheated i was charged for an hour for something that takes 30 minutes at the most and im 100% I COULD HAVE DONE IT MY SELF AFTER WATCHING THIS VIDEO
Hi ChrisFix, I’m a loyal viewer of your videos. Thank you for sharing all the useful tips! I have a question that bugged me for years. I took my car to a few mechanics and they couldn’t pinpoint the issue. You see, when my car (2012 Nissan Juke) moves off from cold, within the first 5 minutes of driving before the engine is warmed up, it gives out this chirping noise under the hood at exactly 1500rpm. If the rpm is below 1000rpm or over 2000rpm, the chirping noise goes away. After the engine has warmed up, the noise goes away. Is it a rocker arm or belt alignment/tension issue? Of late, the noise has gotten louder. I’m worried that this could lead to serious engine failure. Do you have any advise on this? Thank you very much for answering my question. God bless your kind soul.
I have a similar problem, but I think mines the tensioner pulley. I don't think it could cause other engine harm other than maybe the belt slipping(not a huge deal unless it's exessive) or if its too tight, it could destroy other components of the pulley assembly.
damn bro i wish we were friends in real life so u could help me. then this honda would be no problem to fix and my friend would stop annoying me about it lol
Awesome video bro, but I have a question ! What else can it be if it is still making a cricket sound ?! I'll try & upload a video of it today on my lunch break so I can show you. Thanks !

That implies it's reverse threaded

Thank you for the excellent video
I wish I had watched your videos. It might have saved me a mjor part of $1500 repair bill
My AC quit working recently ( not a problem per se, because I rarely turn it ON), and shortly there after, there was a constant noise from the A/C compressor area.
A mechanic at the dealership said the"noise" was from the compressor pully and the compressor was "shot"; which I expected.
They did not have a new( its a 10 + year old Subaru Forester, so it would probably have been a RMF compressor , I think)Compressor in stock so they would "order" one in. In the mean time he said I could frive the vehicle for shorter periods( like 20 km at a time, he said)
The next day my serpentine belt poped and could not drive the vehicle. They replaced the compressor and belt for $1500 !
The same dealership mechanic said the AC compressor caused the serpentine belt to break
Is their explanation credible in your humble opinion
Thank you
You seem real comfortable under the hood. It's a hell of a video, thank you.
On the Chevy 3.5 V6 is counterclockwise to take the tension off the serpentine belt Chris. You may want to add depending on your vehicle it may be clockwise or counterclockwise.
This video saved me over $700. Thanks a lot.
Davis Gunner Thanks Davis. Glad you liked the video! New videos every Thursday and a bonus video most Mondays so stay tuned!
On a car that has 80,000 miles or more they recommend to change the tensioner to not just the pulley. Can you please explain how to change the tensioner as well thank you
Bro i googled this and started it and i was like is this Chris Fix! Yeah buddy. I'm glad you make quality videos.
Awesome video man. I have this squeaky problem in my Saturn now right after I turn it on, and then it goes away after I start driving. Going to see if this works and then report back.
Ok, I would do this test first: How to fix a squeaky belt (figure out where the squeak is coming from)
ChrisFix The serpentine belt that was put in the car was the wrong type and thus, it was too wide!
Yea, it might be the tensioner itself (the spring part, not just the pulley). You might want to try this:
(click) How to QUIET a squeaky belt
Thanx buddy you helped me to find the problem in my car I been putting many stuff on my belt thinking that was the issue and even with the new belt was the same thanx again champ
No prob! Glad it was helpful! Give the video a thumbs up if you havent already (it helps me out). Thanks!
Great Video as always,
These are great trucks still running strong.
I recently bought a 1999 ranger xlt with the 3.0
It has 199000 miles and I ran into the same problem with the idler pulley squeaking,
So I removed it it is the original, I cleaned the bearing removed the seal on both sides and repack it with high temp grease, put it back on and is nice and quiet.
I have a replacement on order but we'll see how long this fix last.
I thought I share this mod as a temporary fix while waiting for a replacement.
Cheers..
Dude you're awesome!!
My car has been making that sound for about the past year and I finally fixed it!!
AWESOME! Glad the video helped and you found your problem!!!
ChrisFix Glad that you posted this Video :)
Having a ford ranger 3 litre makes this video much more informative. Wish I had smaller hands though! This was so damn hard to do.
Would you mind doing a video on how to remove the actual tensioner?
God Bless you!!!
@@jasontindell6734 It's actually quite simple. I figured it out that same day minutes after posting this comment lol
It’s has like three or 4 bolts to remove same size it’s pretty easy
@@joshuatovar6298 yeah i feel that - sometimes things seem complicated but you dig around and find the right bolts
Mine just came off my car. How did you learn so much about cars man.
Nice Job. Tried the spray bottle test on my sons '71 C10 pickup with a serpentine system crate motor and we thought we had the tension pulley pegged making the noise. It ended up being the idle pulley, but saved us time and $!
Tom Brown Awesome Tom! I am glad the belt videos were helpful!
You truly are the best you make this stuff looks so easy and you save us so much money thank you for all that you do😁
Another great video straight down the middle. Thanks
this was a great easy to follow step by step video. I feel good about doing this job on my own after watching this video.
Thank You
+Duane Duncan Awesome! Let me know how it goes!
I got the job done, however the video did not explain that on belt had to go behind another. also did not talk about the adjusting screw. thanks
I use the shield on both pulleys and the problem of the belt slipping off is eliminated.
these videos are as handy as a shirt pocket .i own a hole libary of motor manuals and never have the right one thanks.
Great! Glad the videos are helpful!!
Hi Chris,
I have a 2006 Honda CRV that is making noise like this...I've bought the Gatorback belt via Amazon Direct and saved money as follows;
1) $69.25 vs. Savings on this tiny job: $150 + ~$58 = $208
2) any difference in your experience from "your demo" vehicle to the 2006 Honda, with respect to spacers on the Honda tensioner bearing please?
We all need to save money on OEM parts...money is too hard to come by today to give ownership a 300-500% markup on parts. NOTE this everyone.
Toyota here in Sweden asked 1000$ !! for the belt, Belt Tensioner Pulley and work. This was for a 2000 Celica. This is no joke.
SpreadEagleRL WOW that is crazy! I hope you did it yourself then!
Thanks for the tip!
Very helpful! Simple and informative. I've watched a handful of videos on this subject and this one helped the most
I'm glad the video was helpful!
Your videos are the best man!!…Extremely helpful and very acurate. Always right to the point…. with clear presentations!!
Thanks for taking the time to teach my friend!!
Thanks a lot Joe!
Thanks Chris! You're my go-to for fixing stuff on my truck
+Matthew Serna no problem Matt!
Went to princess auto & bought a tensioner tool, 4.2 in a freestar is almost the same, thx V much Bud,
Great! Glad the video was helpful! Remember to "thumbs up" the video (it helps me out, thanks!).
How about making a video on removal / installation of the belt tensioner assembly on the Ford Ranger 3.0. your video's are very informative.
Thankyou I am sure it didn't need to be loose , to put the belt over so I like your update
Exactly the same issues with my 04 ranger! Thanks, Chris!
i have a 1993 ford explorer and im having that same noise changed the belt,im going out tomorrow and checking my pullys thanks bro I will let you know
Def let me know!
found that the power pulley wobbles back and forth
A lot of time the power steering pump pulley has a wobble to it.
and a wine
The wine might be the power steering pump. I am actually working on a video right now that will be done by Monday on how to flush the power steering pump. I will make a video on how to get rid of the wine right now and try to get it done tonight for you.
Thanks. Your videos are always easy to understand and straight to the point!
+Doug Strebeck no problem! Glad the videos are helpful!
Unliked because u fast forwarded the bit when putting the tensioner belt back, that was the only thing I wanted help with otherwise great video!
rabzow sturridge chipaz Thanks! Glad the video was helpful. What are you talking about I fast forwarded putting the belt back on? The serpentine belt is already already mostly on and then you just slip the belt around the pulley. That clear it up?
I just watched the clip again and I dont even know why I said that, great video!
rabzow sturridge chipaz lol, Thanks.
rabzow sturridge chipaz , but
Hi Chris, I have a Ford too and although I don't like doing it, I know how, and will save my self a little money. But will be replacing the alt. Thanks for the video.
Great video. It's simple, clear, and concise. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Glad it was helpful (and simple, clear and concise). That is my goal!
Needing to change the same thing on my FJ Cruiser…. Chrisfix always comes through even if it’s a 7yrs old video :)
My noise is very similar but seems more aggressive. It even synced up with yours!!! 94 f150 straight 6
Thanks for the video good job buddy smazing how we learn from youtube
No problem! I am glad the video taught you something new!
Just bought a 98 ranger and what is the first thing I do? Search ChrisFix's video for anything on the ford ranger of course. Thanks again Chris.
+TheGrayman1234 I have a lot of good stuff so I hope it helps!!!
Hi chrisfix
I did change the tensioner and the drive belt. There is no chirping now.
But it started ticking sound on engine. Any ideas
Excelent Video. Thank You, i saved 120 dollars
Please helpppppppp.
thank you so much Chris, I love your videos! easy, professional and to the point.
Very well done video! I will need to do this on a 2014 Cadillac Seville.
You, my friend are a GREAT MECHANIC, Amazing work/videoes, you produce!! ty, for all your time and effort.
OnlyDaanish Are you sure it is the pulley and not something else?
ChrisFix Yes im 100% sure. when i put my stethescope to the pulley bolt i hear it. and when i put my finger on the bolt i feel it rattle. this happened as soon as i replaced the bearing. when i spraed some wd40 on the bolt it felt like the rattle went away.
OnlyDaanish Maybe the bolt is worn down?
You speak and explain very well. Thanks
+Harold Smith Thanks Harold!
I check the belt like a you said. Get a new one problem solve thanks bro you video help a lot of people very informative. You have a new subscribe lucky I got the same truck you have.
Thanks and great! Glad the video helped and glad you are a subscriber now!
@ChrisFix YOU are the MAN,,,always come thrw when i have a question/problem with my car
+Daniel Briceno Thanks a lot Daniel!
I have learned a lot from your videos. If possible can you do one on changing the engine belts?
Jerry C Awesome! Yes, an engine belt changing video would be a good one! It is on the list!
Thanks for upload this. I did it too by the directions. It was so helpful.
Great! Glad the video was helpful! Give the video a thumbs up (it helps me out, thanks!)... Also subscribe for more helpful videos!
I thought your presentation was just right. thanks.
Your videos are so good, almost perfect, if only you owned a 2006 Ford Focus Zetec (my car) then it would be perfect ;)
great video, definitely didn't think it would be so easy. thanks
If I can and have managed everything from tune ups to rebuilding a carb to switching out a solenoid to oil changes on various types of vehicles, I am pretty confident i can handle this as well! I was just unsure if, even tho I don't intend to remove the entire belt, I would have to have some special tool to get it back to a certain torque or anything like that.
laura k Gotcha. Ok good. Sounds like you know what you are doing! Let me know how it goes!
Does the story change now that the entire belt had to be removed?
laura k Dang, glad you didnt blow the motor! The story doesnt change. Just put the new belt on after you change the pulley!
and after I look up which way to wind it all around where and what, LOL!
Haven't even been able to attempt removing the bolt thanks to the heavy down pour. Arrrgh!!
Figures. It always rains when you have to work on your car outside lol
I would try the water trick and let me know what happens: How to fix a squeaky belt (figure out where the squeak is coming from)
THANKS!, Straight and to the point, efficient!
Thanks for the video! I have a question: my pulley is bend, it doesnt squeek too much but i dont know if I have to change just the pulley or the tensioner?....because the belt gets off once in a while and now more often, it dont look like the belt is jumping but the pulley dont look straight either...
grt8 video, although you don't show how to remove the belt from the tensioner pulley itself, would be very helpful to know this.
David Johnson I show every step (maybe you missed it). You remove the tenison from the belt and slide the belt off the nearest pulley.
At 40 seconds he loosens the belt and then ratchets the pulley off from there.
you don't need that fancy long ratchet , i use a regular ratchet with a 13mm socket i think it was 13 mm. Just align the fan so that you can fit your hand and ratchet with socket on then release tension while holding down on ratchet , slip belt off and pull it around the fan and your done !
Thanks !!! It really help m...no more noise...
Jayson Castillo AWESOME! That is what I like to hear!
MAN ILL TELL YA, YOU JUST SAVED.ME. RIGHT ON!!!!
ChrisFix, I was wondering if you'll do a video on how to replace the fan. I don't have a car or anything, I just think it'd be interesting for someone with a broken fan for example.
I sorta did in this older video: ruclips.net/video/_mAjPwKv5l0/видео.html
ChrisFix haha thanks
i honestly wish i would have watched this video before i took my car to the shop i feel cheated i was charged for an hour for something that takes 30 minutes at the most and im 100% I COULD HAVE DONE IT MY SELF AFTER WATCHING THIS VIDEO
I’m so glad I subscribed. Your videos are awesome! Every time I need help I always come to your videos . Looking forward to see more 🤘🏼
Hi ChrisFix, I’m a loyal viewer of your videos.
Gotta love the China bearing at 1:55 in my experience that brand of parts don't last long
Would you happen to have a video on how to replace the belt tensioner? (Not the pulley) or have a recommended video?
I will try this, thanks. I hope this works though. If not still thank you bro
+Rhod Magleo Jr. No problem! Good luck!
damn bro i wish we were friends in real life so u could help me. then this honda would be no problem to fix and my friend would stop annoying me about it lol
Awesome video bro, but I have a question ! What else can it be if it is still making a cricket sound ?! I'll try & upload a video of it today on my lunch break so I can show you. Thanks !
