    Most full or 100% synthetic motor oils consist of C20-50 hydroprocessed/engineered base oils. Higher[est] performance oils will blend in 25-50% PAO like 1-decene or octadecene. It's impossible to evaluate synthetic brands bc trade secrete chemical formulas are not disclosed to [non-chemist] consumers. Thus, the testing, which Amsoil stresses, can show the protection performance of an engine oil.

    Dan, thank you for your videos! They are very informative and help enthusiasts like me learn new information.
    Question: Mobil 1's Extended Performance has now gone up from 15k to 20k drain intervals and even Castrol now offers an Extended Performance 20k drain interval oil. Are their EP formulas still PAO based? has anything improved relative to their previous formulas? Are they still not using esters like Amsoil?

    Redline directly competes with Amsoil Signature Series. They both have bases of PAO and Esters and additive packages are similar.

    • @linuxlinux9914
      @linuxlinux9914 3 года назад

      Redline is a good product only issue I have with redline is if you burn any amount of oil you do not want to use redline. They have a ton of zinc in redline additive package. I think around 2600 ppm. If you burn a decent amount of oil eventually you will damage your cat and o2 sensors due to the zinc being burned off. This is the only issue I have with redline but it is a great product if you do not burn oil.

    • @linuxlinux9914
      @linuxlinux9914 3 года назад +1

      @@tomorrowcomestoday1621 Its not good. If you do not shake the oil container before pouring in you could end up losing a decent amount of the additive package. It also could fall out of suspention and fall to the bottom of the crankscase over time. Espically if a car isnt driven alot. If the car is a daily driver this would proably be less of a issue. But there is plenty of pictures on amazon of the stuff being left in the bottom of the oil jug and pennzoil saying its additives that have fallen out.

    • @seinfeld11123
      @seinfeld11123 7 лет назад

      all group 3 oils (penzoil's are made like this)
      they are heated under enormous pressure so that they become a GAS (hydrocracking) it isnt a new process or something shell only does (shell make Penzoil oils) . they can then sort the molecules out and pick the better parts.
      the better oils are group 4 and 5 called PAO and Esters respectively made with a different process.

    • @thelubepage
      @thelubepage  7 лет назад +4

      The natural gas oils are great group III oils. I'm glad to see this technology go full stream. The USA has tremendous reserves of natural gas. I' sure Amsoil will eventually buy natural gas group III when it becomes more available. It is not superior to group III made form petroleum base stocks. And PAO and Ester remain the superior stock.

    Hello amsoil, i have a question, if i use signature series for example, i didnt reach 20,000miles in 1year period then i reach 20kmiles for 2years...where do i base my drain interval?

    • @thelubepage
      @thelubepage  5 лет назад +6

      There are two limits on oil use, Miles and Time. Amsoil Signature Series oils are rated for 1 year or 25,000 miles whichever comes first. Time is based on conditions that will deplete the additive package or cause thickening of the oil. One way to look at it is the use of cycles, with a cycle being going from cold (engine shut down) to hot (engine operating at normal operating temp) and back down to cold. Simply put heat up and cool down. When the engine cools down there will be condensation internally and this moisture will drip into the oil or be washed into the oil on startup. Water is a catalyst for oxidation, and combining with byproducts of combustion to form acids. Engine oils contain additives to mitigate these activities but each cycle will deplete some additives. The worst case for cycling is short trips which never completely warm the oil above 140*F. Moisture will evaporate from the oil over time but the oil must get above 140*F. So, you should never use oil beyond the manufacturer's time limit. Many petroleum oils are rated for 3,000 miles or 3 months whichever comes first, some may be good for up to 6 months.

    Here's the _truth._ You can run _any_ *major name brand* oil- mineral *or* synthetic- for up to *30,000 mile* oil change intervals- provided that you change the filter a few times so it doesn't clog. You just will wind up with very *dirty oil.* Are *long intervals* between oil changes a good idea? It's *your* car or truck.

    • @thelubepage
      @thelubepage  5 лет назад +7

      This is absolutely untrue! There are several reasons to change oil and dirt is just one. When oil oxidizes it becomes sludge or varnish and the oil thickens out of grade. The TBN (total base number) is critical for neutralizing acids. Several additives are critical for continued use such as anti-wear, anti-oxidant anti-foaming. All the additives are depleted over time in use. There is more info at my website www.thelubepage.com

    When researching Amsoil everyone needs to keep in mind that it is basically a Pyramid Scheme. Like Filter Queen, Mary Kay, Amway, Herbalife, etc... You will find that most of the propaganda and information comes from Amsoil or their own people. When you buy Amsoil there are a lot people taking their cut. Basically everyone all the way up the pyramid gets a cut. Is it a bad oil? I'm not saying that. It very well may be a good product. But you're filling a lot pockets when you buy it. The price has to be inflated for everyone to get paid. You're overpaying for this oil which in most cases lacks the certifications required by most manufactures. Go tell GM, Ford.... etc that your engine locked up during the warranty period because you were running 25K oil change intervals with scamsoil. I bet you will buy paying for that new engine. Its simply an over hyped product sold by a MLM (multi level marketing) company. Save the money and go pick up a quality oil at a local walmart or auto parts store and be realistic with oil change intervals.
