I remember the day I saw this, 2013, I had my wisdom teeth removed the day before, and my friend (who is now my brother in law) showed this to me because I’m a drummer. I was hooked ever since.
The fact that he went balls to wall in this cover reminds me why I started drumming in the first place, to get a hold of myself and align myself when I was falling apart. The raw emotion drumming can bring out in someone when they're passionate about a song. This cover touches me in a deep, emotional level. Keep being great, man. Going to go practice now! ❤
I don't understand why most people are saying he doesn't have any talent just because of the way he is acting while playing the drums. I believe everyone has a different way of playing. Some just like to play drums without any exaggerated movements, others do. He definitely knows how to play more than those at home typing away negative comments.
For anyone who's saying he has no dynamics, he broke down with the song and played a bossa nova groove mid-song. It's a dubstep remix folks. He's playin with the energy of the song. Yes he is beating the hell out of those drums. It's because that's the vibe of the song. He's got chops, flare, and rudimentary skills. Why is that something to hate on? Would it have been better if he was some deadbeat playing with no expression? Come on folks, it's a new day of entertainment. Stop hating, especially if you can't play the drums. :).
I hear ya. I play too. That was also a bit overboard for a cover. That being said, have you seen his street work? That's some good stuff. Hollywood took care of him quick!
I wish every person who had negative things to say about a cover had to post their own version of what THEY would have done. People have so many shit opinions, and claim they know what is and isn't the proper way to do something.
And that children is how you fit 5 beats into 2. How could anyone hate on that? And just think of the Memetic energy created BY the original song. Wow 🌴
@@jameschevalier6748 what kind of technique did he sacrifice? He had more rudimentary skills then I have seen from many so called drummers here and yes I play for 40 years now.
for all of you saying he needs to calm down or stop hitting his drums so hard just shut up seriously. its called passion. quit ranting about it on youtube just because you can't do it.
C'mon, why all the hate comments? This is a DUBSTEP drum cover. You're supposed to play loud because its freakin DUBSTEP! You're supposed to smash the cymbals and the snare and shtuff! :3. In my opinion this is a great cover.
I'll tell you one thing, i like the original version. So i listen to it, then come here and listen to the dubstep version drum cover to clean my ears out...... i freaking love this guys playing
Dylan Taylor, you are the very definition of grimy. That was disgusting and beautiful at the same time. The amount of energy and emotion that you bring to that drum set turns a simple song/drum cover into something not even of this world. Stay humble, don't forget your roots and keep at it bro. Fuckin' awesome :)
For the people thinking he's playing the drums too hard, or jumping around too much I feel like there is a difference between just playing something and performing something. Personally, even if it's a bit over the top, I feel he conveys the intensity of the song pretty well.
Lot of people criticizing him for jumping around and being a performer. Hard to break it to you all, but an awful lot of drumming is about what your body is doing, not necessarily what you're playing. I'm a drummer as well, and though I don't act as much as this guy, there are definitely things I do to convey a certain mood or intensity given the song I'm playing. It makes it more fun and involving! As for the technicality here: there's not a lot. It's not intended to be technical. Most of this is not hard to do, it's all fairly straightforward "RUclips" drumming. Flashy, intended to entertain. I'd bet any amount of money that he would agree if asked. This is a great example of a RUclips drum cover, and I doubt he wanted to be a technical showoff.
I think you're really selling him short here with your 'RUclips drumming' comment. It's perhaps not hard to do but it's not easy either. I bet most people that have been drumming for a while couldn't do it as good as he did. And what does 'RUclips drumming' even mean? There's loads of good drummers/musicians on RUclips. It's all relative really, some people would find this easy to do, most probably wouldn't.
Late reply but I want to add as a drummer that you get to a point where you can play things without much thought and you add flair to your style to make it entertaining for spectators as well as yourself. Idk about you but I have the most fun when I can act like a moron while nailing the beat.
Exactly. This is the exact reason I am finding it hard to find decent woman drummers I like. Most just sit there trying to look "hot" while drumming. its unpassionate and extremely irritating. The body language and facial expressions for me are apart of drumming itself. I love listening to drums but love it more when I am able to listen and watch the drummer himself. Only found a few woman who truly go at it like men usually do.. you enjoy it more when you can see that they are passionate and get into the drumming rather then them male or female just sitting there trying not to make UG faces. it says a lot and adds substance to drums.
chill man, you're provoking my emotions. i get to stand up every time you do as if am the one drumming, that is if only i know how to drum. You and Cobus; i don't know how to class you two
when somebody is good at something, when he/she does it , he/she makes it look easier than it acctualy is, you dude, you make it look 100000 times harder. thats what i like about u, cool videos, great drumming.
The post production on this cover is mad, in terms of how tight the drum's are and the fundamentals are all brought forward in the mix! I can't stop listening to it!
Anyone who thinks this is bad is jealous because they can't do it themselves... I'm a drummer and I may not be that good yet, but I've heard more music that I should have. Believe me when I say this guy is a really good drummer! All those flips with his drumsticks are just for show.
He's literally having fun making a sick cover that is not supposed to be in any way dynamic or close to the song. People don't watch dubstep remixes on drums when people play with dynamics and perfect form and crap. This is awesome and just FUN
lol @ ppl saying he is showing off... if you were a drummer yourself, you would understand.. it is called passion and the love of drums.. jealousy is a real problem, seek some professional help for that.. Dylan is fucking incredible.. watching this, as I have many times, I feel the passion and I cant look away.. this is what amazing art looks and sounds like..
I played in marching band with Dylan in high school. He was a monster back then but he's upped his game so much since then. He was always destined to have a career in drumming.
Joakim Lindeng Engeset Agreed, this guy is so into self promotion with little actual musical ability... We can all just bang a load of triplets over a simple 4/4....
This guy is amazing I’m pretty sure his teacher was the drummer for meat loaf his father was friends with him ......and it really show this guy is talented as hell
***** Hey bro, I really enjoyed your playing, I was blown away. I'm also digging the remix of this song. You've got a new fan in me. I look forward to watching more (all) of your videos. Peace, Jack
Disagree because if you put these drums into the original mix it just wouldn't work, cuz Dylan mixed it, but nonetheless I get what you mean, he's able to completely change the song, and give it a new meaning energy that it just didn't have before
I don't get why you people are so negative towards his playing style. respect how HE plays, it's not you & he's most likely better then all of you, so why critique him? RESPECT how he plays rather than shaming him smh
TheCRISFILMS I don't think this guy needs to move that much either... it's called a performance. Maybe next time he will sit there with a frown and show no emotion or energy so that you can finally see through all the bullshit and like his video.
I relate to this song from back when I was a stagehand and Gotye played the show. Then when I was homeless some buskers were playing it and I've loved this version for over 8 years
Yo, what's with all these bad vibes? Didn't ya see the beginning skit of the video? His lack of dynamics is made in correspondence to the theme of the video: anger, and resent. I have yet to see any other things he's done, but it seems as he was only hitting this hard and going 110% the whole time because he was upset about a relationship coming to an end. I know, I sure as hell hit my drums this hard when I'm angry. There is a very high probability that it was just an act; in which case, he is acting upset. Doing it quite well, if I do say so myself. Regardless, fantastic drummer.
Jordan King the picture was torn up, it didn't get tore up like that from being inside the head! Lmao. I guess you think my him beating on the Tom is what ripped it up.
hi, thanks for uploading this amazing vid. i came across it last week while searching for something that will help me study for my exams. i have no words, this is beautiful. and it amazes me that its like 3 years old.
Jesus christ everyone is so judge mental now a days. Always finding things to bitch about like his facial expressions, what hes wearing, how much he moves around, the music he plays to. Its absolutely ridiculous! He obviously is talented and plays with passion, it might not be your exact cup of pea but i dont understand why people have to rip apart someone because of it?
Well its a well directed music video. The song talks about an ex girlfriend.... so i guess not necessary for a drum cover everytime, but it was a really good idea In my opinion anyways
This guy has talent but he's using it wrong. No dynamics whatsoever, just constant loud bashing on the kit the whole time. Plus it's ridiculously annoying when everything becomes a crash cymbal. Like seriously, his crash, his (what looked like a) china, his ride, and his hats he all used as crash cymbals, seriously, if you need more crash cymbals go out and get some, you clearly have enough money for it. Also it's kind of annoying how he stands up at times, like just sit down and play your drums. All that being said, he's a good drummer, just not a very good musician.
Yes the talent of somebody is within the eyes of the beholder. As a drummer myself... he is good... hella good and i see you point... just there are different styles of songs and this is a remix. OK, So I seriously can't even fathom the hate on this. Since I've discovered this version, it's become my favorite one. Addressing the haters (as a musician), I can say this dude's got more talent in his right hand than most have throughout the body. I've watched other videos on his channel, and the energy he puts out is directly proportionate to the track he's covering. Panda. Can't Hold Us Down. Dark Horse. All good examples of the differences in his technique, as related to the composition he's playing with, as well as the "message" of the song. So, there's that. Dude, keep it up. You kick ass.
Why not - he loooooves that song and that's why is playing it like that? He is just feeling the song, no thinking, no "what's next", just the melody and drums?
Anyone who comments on this video saying "he's off beat" "the fills are messed up" or "he's showing off and hitting too hard," you probably know basic drums, or don't play at all. His herta rudiments on the snare are extremely tight, and playing them extremely hard is not making the rudiment any easier. Especially playing it as fast as he does. There are well placed shuffles and difficult rudiments for fills all over this cover. Anyone who has an ear for these things will applaud his showmanship going inbetween solid drumming. Not "perfect" but very solid, because no drummer is perfect.
i was 15 back then when I first watched this. I'm 25 years old now but I'm still here watching it. I hope I can play this cover soon!!! :)
We are the same age and having the exact same experience 😂
Ditto story. :')

JerryKid72 Sounds heavy as fuck on my 2 pioneer 15 inch subs, with 2 midrange and 1 tweeter on each.
I have an iPad speaker.. XD
What's the deal with the picture. Was it a big "fuck you" to an ex girlfriend or something?
ManCave Mayhem i guess so
OK, So I seriously can't even fathom the hate on this.
You kick ass.
is there skill there? for sure, are you trying too hard to do a drum cover? definitely.
there's no such thing as trying too hard in playing an instrument... if you play your heart out you're doing it right.
arji s no i get emotion. i look stupid playing guitar all the time. but it looks like hes adding extra emotions for the camera
Well, it is a show after all... :P
Why not - he loooooves that song and that's why is playing it like that? He is just feeling the song, no thinking, no "what's next", just the melody and drums?
xxjabarri2xx
Yes, most of what he's doing there could be done without moving much at all. But he's overdoing it, a lot.
The is the only guy that doesn't feel like he is invading the song in drum covers. You earned a sub
So much skill!! I love the bass and crash symbols!! Perfect dubstep cover!!
