@@BUKUDI Nobody actually had to model the broken armor pieces. They just made a texture that changes the way light reacts to the armor by making it appear broken.
In DS2, when the player runs out of stamina carrying heavy load, the character will gasp for air and also run tired and recover and become normal again once stamina is regeneratated. This animation is not visible in other souls.
Yeah, and even a small animation when you change your gear around. It feels a bit like they are trying to evaluate the gear you choose, as if looking into a mirror. Ds 2 got the best fashion, and even the character knows it lmao Also love the way the hud works, you get all the stat information while getting a good view of how it'll look on your character.
Fun fact, the armor set for the Soul of Cinder normally doesn't look exactly the same as the boss... Because the boss is wearing the broken version. And it's REALLY hard to break due to its high durability and how slowly durability actually goes down.
you can just go to Irithyll Dungeon and get those huge baby things to spit acid on you while blocking with Havel's greatshield etc, that's how i broke all my armor
@@charcharman1 ironically enough, most people believe that the person shown on promo material like boxarts and etc is actually the Soul of Cinder, when in reality it's literally just the Firelink Set It's even funnier when fans depict the protagonist as the trailer/boxart character, but Dark Souls 3 is just the default Knight set, instead of the Firelink one
even in Ds 2 getting your armor broken is kind of a chore considering that there are more weapon breaking elements than armor breaking. The first time I actually noticed that my armor looks broken was when I decided to invade for giggles and I ended up invading a hacker who instantly broke all my stuff and killed me without even showing up. was rocking the Faraam set too. Part of me kinda wanted to keep the chestpiece broken but I'm a sucker of stats so I fixed it.
@@BlahoMark15 In DS2 it isn't so hard since durability is universally the lowest per class/tier compared to the rest of the series... _except that_ resting at a bonfire restores the durability instantly and completely. You have to heal entirely with gems and avoid resting to even have a chance of it breaking.
@Ninja-2.0 It's almost like some people spent nearly a decade making a wide array of armor options spanning realistic and modest, to striking and exotic, to dramatic and high fantasy, with tasteful mood and accent pieces, and tame character concept pieces, then suddenly threw out nearly every single one of those options all at once, then made an entirely new array of armors while being extraordinarily careful to not recreate anything they made the first time, meaning mostly a bunch of weird obscure armor too uncommon to have been done extensively before, wearable abstract art, and striking, memorable character concept pieces with unmistakable profiles, that had to also have the rest of a clownsuit built around them. And none of it matches with eachother. Or sometimes itself.
So many of these look cooler when broken, but seeing solaire’s armor looking mangled just hurts. Also I only just a few minutes ago realized the armor looks different when broken.
Now I wanna play through both of these games with a mod pack that replaces everything with it's broken visuals cuz some of these look downright awesome

I really wish there was an official like slider where you could choose your armour to be broken but only cosmetically since some of them look so good compared to the normal version! Most of the armours look so clean and plain but with the dents and scratches it really gives more character!

I really wish that armor durability was a hidden value and mostly cosmetic, based on the amount of hits you receive (and obviously survive) So that the longer you go, the more you fight and survive, then the armour is visibly worn, broken and whatnot, instead of being massively reduced in terms of effectiveness kind of like survivorship bias, planes coming back riddled with holes are a good indication of what NOT to reinforce, but to focus on the parts that were not damaged - because, those parts being damaged didn't come back to the landing strip, so those have to be reinforced. If you wear an armor and still survive for long periods of time, it should look worn and battle damaged, but still provide the same bonuses because DUH they helped keep you alive Just really wish this was a thing instead of FS rolling back some of these mechanics only to arrive in Elden Ring and both armour and weapons are now unbreakable for some reason and always in pristine condition.. there is acid spray but what does it do, reduce your damage negation by a few %'s?
3:00 I love the Abyss Watcher tinfoil hat (crumpled) I bet armor durability would only ever be a concern if you're doing a bonfire-less playthrough of DS3. Yet even then you could stock up on repair powder. Armor durability just never mattered in DS3. I know some invaders trolled AFK hosts by spewing acid breath on them & breaking all of their gear. Some people even thought they got their stats hacked because they never even knew armor COULD break in DS3. In DS2 it's a very pressing concern especially for certain weapons & armors that were extremely fragile like the crystal rapier. Even high-durability weapons like the Smelter Demon's sword burned through it's durability rapidly if you spammed its special attack a lot. Most weapons that had special moves in DS2 used durability as a way to make sure you couldn't just spam it forever (since the blue FP bar wasn't a thing in that game)
I tried some time ago to break armors by curiosity in DS3. To do so, i went to the Cleansing Chapel bonfire (where you meet Gael) with my SL125 caracter and faced to hollows walking inside the graveyard as they are in number and deal few damage. Took me something like 15-20 min with a regen build and 2 estus refill (bow + Pyro. Part. Flame glitch) to break my armor. This was how I discovered that a broken armor loses half of its resistances and of course the visual like in this video. Hope the people who designed the broken feature didn't become Hollows after realising that almost nobody will ever see their work in the game.
Ngl tho i only broke my equipment once in ds3 because i never rest. At the bonfire just keep on getting summoned into a group fight or invading. My armor set and weapon broke and i had to tell my friends i have to visit andre of astora and told my homies my equipments is breaking.

HOWEVER I do think the ADP thing is a HUGE factor in killing the game for a lot of people, because it's just a dumb game design decision that makes your rolls feel broken if you don't level it enough. There are a few other gripes I have with it like the excessive snipers and ambushes/ganking in some areas but they're about as annoying as the bad bits in DS1.
Nah the adp was not the problem. People think its annoying to lvl adp because they hate to grind lvl. Like basically people who mostly start from Ds1 already accustomed to the early easy dodge roll then suddenly take it away that makes them mad. Meanwhile to new player who start from Ds2 or newer game doesnt find this to be a problem because can adapt to the difficulty.

It looks like all the developers did was apply a crumply looking normal map to the metal textures, as in all that's happening is the lighting reacts to the metal as if it is textured like crumpled metal. Notice how the armor becomes damaged, but the silhouette does not change because the physical mesh is not being altered: it's merely an illusion. I don't know if this applies to the fabric textures, but it's cool what a difference that makes.
For how armour breaking works on DS3, the amount of players that must had seen the broken armours must had been extremely minuscule
