- Bernardini is beatable after all.
Invasor pulled alongside Bernardini in the stretch and blew past the mighty colt for a stunning victory in the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic on Saturday at Churchill Downs.
The victory in America's richest race was the ninth in 10 career starts for the 4-year-old Invasor, who was bred in Argentina and is Uruguay's Horse of the Year.
After his victory over a star-studded lineup, Invasor is likely to be voted the world's Horse of the Year.
With Brother Derek setting the pace, Bernardini made a bold move for the lead around the far turn and seemed to take charge entering the stretch as a cheer went up from the Churchill Downs crowd of 75,132.
But Invasor, with 18-year-old Fernando Jara aboard, wouldn't let Bernardini get away. He went eyeball-to-eyeball with the even-money favorite, then dusted him off for a one-length victory.
In the winner's circle, trainer Kiaran McLaughlin was smiling, hugging people and clapping his hands.
Invasor, the second choice at 6-1, was supposed to take on Bernardini in the Jockey Club Gold Cup on Oct. 7, but spiked a fever and did not run.

Bet him every start that year. Real monster! He won in Maryland at Pimlico the Pimlico special Horse lost a line that day with Ramon Dominguez up and still won going away. From that day I knew that horse would be very tuff to beat. Very Nice horse and great training job bringing the horse in off of very nice workouts. Great memories! 16 years goes quick! I retired that year too!

Gran pupila de los uruguayos en comprarlo y traerlo para Uruguay, en argentina no hubiera pasado de un podrido del montón y terminando en una villa tirando del carro de un cartonero..
Parece q se quedó ciego el se de la pupila biónica . Porq nunca más ganó nada y antes de invasor tampoco había ganado nada. El caballo es argentino y debe su fama al fama al desarrollo de genetistas cuidsdores y propietarios argentinos.

Was hoping to see some of his proginy in the racetrack. Was not to be. A few nice mares but not much at all. Told everybody I knew, called that one way way before, INVASOR!
Invasor was just too good for Bernadini.
Bernadino was a beast, he was up against an all time great in Invasor

Invasor was a better horse . Bernardini was just so overrated.
Bernardini was good in his own right. But agree Invasor was better. Edgar Prado even said Barbaro was better then Bernardini.
I remember before this race they tried to make it a whole east vs west coast thing with Bernardini vs Lava Man but I think all of us knew Lava Man wasn't going to be a factor... he never runs well outside CA.

Si la carrera tuviera 100 mts mas , Invasor ganaba por 5 cuerpos, El gran Bernandini no opuso la mas minima resistencia, ya habia dado todo lo que podia cuando Invasor lo pasó al galope , para cruzar el disco de orejas parada, aquí se vio la calidad de este increible pingo teniendo en cuenta que corria con los mejores del mundo, de America y Europa
@Mauro Perdomo La cuestión es que Invasor, pagando 15.40, le ganó al gran favorito Bernardini y que este nunca más volvió a correr después de esa carrera.

I'm surprised that the jockey for Brother Derek did not put in a foul claim on Bernardini. Clearly interefered with at the top of the stretch.
