The entire doomstack was a dumb idea, but it's a hilarious idea. Just absolute waves of rockets just flying across the battlefield and just slamming into the Skaven lines, that was so entertaining to watch.
I highy recommend doing one modded run as dawi with Dawi Thunder, Harmony Sentinel, Thunderbarge, Rune Golems, Bodyguards plus the better gunpowder mod. Once you have your mostly artillery and various gun units doomstack going it's the most impressive thing to see it open up. That's what TW40k could look like minus the blue plasma streaks it would have. Just like 2 units of Sappers can add 3 different single arillery pieces while still serving as small thudneres troop with mines in front of them. Then there is crank gunners and gryocoper chested mechas with crank guns while globs of fire fly overhead. Taking settlements feels like playing Doorkickers with 200 units at once, making sure to have your corners covered while moving up. My main army had like a single Hammerers melee infantry unit and it usually only ever just had to deal with menace below. Prolly would get devastated by Chaos Dwarfs with arillery trains now if you don't bring a gyrobomber/carrier to snipe it early.
That doomstack works better with Franz or Volkmar, imo. Even if Gelt has the buffs. But two empire captains or warrior priest would've made 1000% difference. He just lacked tanks.

You should try ally recruiting like 4 Dwarf Thunderers into it. As far as I know, they’re better at deleting single entities (particularly small single entities, which are the bane of this army) than any gunners in the empire roster. Then you’d be covered in battles like this. Steal a master engineer too, while you’re at it.

This poor guy he expected skaven to be based entirely on their overwhelming numbers, but immediately comes into contact with a bunch of single entity heavy armies.
I'm really starting to think the AI builds to counter the player. I'm a pretty ranged based player and mid to late game the AI will start throwing armies at me that are like 75 percent cav/doggos/flying
No cap, hellblasters have a ridiculous autoresolve value. When I was getting bored in TWW:2 with fighting endgame chaos stacks, I'd just spam a couple of Shielded spearmen + hellblasters armies and just carve through the world in autoresolve. Which is funny, cause they aren't really that good on the battlefield.
@@Anterwaare306Yep, hellblasters late game and grenade launcher cavalry early on are hilarious auto resolve monsters. Hellblasters are beasts in manual battles too, or at least they were in wh2. Back when giving individual ranged units orders was, you know, a dps increase instead of the spaghetti we got now.
If you want to optimize autoresolve, combine a bunch of artillery with a bunch of tanky melee infantry. It's why dwarves are so good at autoresolve: their entire faction is basically ranged + tanky infantry. If you want to improve this army for manual battle and keep the ranged identity: I've had surprisingly good results with armies consisting of just hellbasters (in the center) + handgunners (on the left and right). Basically create a \_/ with handgunners being the \ and /. Maybe it's not the army with the highest win probability of any force, but in the vast majority of battles you win without taking casualties, which means that you can keep fighting. Because artillery kills their archers and artillery (and infantry), and the gunners shred everything else, so you don't lose anything in a typical battle. Or use Hellblasters as fancy handgunners.

@@baron2062 Hellblasters are superior vs cavalry when compared to your other artillery. Grand cannons take about 15minutes of combat to do their worth. As the empire, you typically want to finish your battles at the 8 minute mark at the latest, right about when your hellstorms are used up and have lost all their balance of power.About handgunners, i dont know what went wrong with them in wh3 but i once had 4 of them in an artillery army. The auto resolve gave me valliant defeat. I just disbanded them and won a close victory auto resolve as a 16 unit stack.

Empire is such a meme faction so that you can make any face expressions with them and that'd make them 3d characters. Especially smiley face makes them as if they are partying and enjoying all day all night with all those high tech stuff to test out.
The cap of HRB effectiveness I think is at 3 per army. I make it a point in my Empire campaigns to include at least 3 HRB + tanks + Grenadiers/Heavy Cav to protect them.
How did you know the menace below was spawning without looking directly at the artillery? I watched that part 3 times and couldn't tell a difference at all 😮
Pretty sure it was the timing. The ability opens up 45 seconds in if I'm not mistaken and the AI always uses it immediately, and he is a skaven guy so he's probably got it memorized by feel.
Yeah isn’t the golden rule (pun intended) of the Empire to use all of their artillery? If you cut the tank and mortar, replace them with captains/priests, and then exchange about 8 of the rocket batteries for a mix of cannons/volley guns you would absolutely maul these Skaven no?

I'd trade in 2 steam tanks for something decent in melee that's flying to dick around with AI pathing, intercept stuff like chaos furies or bigger fliers going for the HRBs or just gank stragglers.
Nah but more tanks would definitely be useful. Tank frontline, hellstorms in the rear. Unless the AI makes a lot of single entity units, you'll wreck everything.
@@Typhy7 Steam Tanks are awful against SEM - its ranged damage is pretty low against SE and once any sort of high-tier monster gets into melee with em, your tanks are screwed. If for some weird reason you wanna go full multipurpose artillery with Empire, it's better to combine hellstorms with hellblasters and/or a couple of luminarks
Not sure if this would've been better, but I would've put Gelt in range, and then attacked with the garrisoned army. It would've given you a strong front line, and the AI would wait for its reinforcements, giving you time to set up the arty.
The army in the city can only attack Queek since he's sieging the city. Thus bringing in both reinforcing Skaven armies which Legend says at the start he doesn't want to do.
That's why I never spam one type of unit, especially artillery, Cannons are decent nowadays they don't just shoot corners of infantry boxes. I end up with hundreds of kills with Cannon from any given Race be it Carronade or Great Cannon.
You could combine Hellblasters with Hellstorm to have an effective arty-only army. Certain units are also very good for spamming (including most of the WE roster).
@@ethanwilliams1880 you still need something to hold back, plus caster if it's not in Gelt Army. I usually pick some Warrior Priests but they can be squishy without adequate amount of Ward Save.

Probably 10-12 Hellstorms, 2-3 Cannons/Volley Guns for single entity deletion, and the rest in the form of single entities to block stuff off and hold them in place for the artillery to work.
Tbh lighting strikes have so little use in wh3 (at least for me). The vigor penalty is so massive that usually is better to fight the full forces (in this battle the vigour loss wouldn't have been a problem). Plus the ai just build no armies and usually never attack with 4 or clump them up together, compare to wh2 where they parked 4 stack all the time. If it was less points like it used to be but needing 8 points for it isn't just worth it
@@sinuosalice-1434 yeah, in wh2 it was more usefull for sure. But personally I prefer to get it at level 15-20, it wins a lot of early game hard situations even without "cheesing". And a must have for a non wizard lords. It also makes it easier to deafeat enemies that blob at the cities with few armies.
Armor after a certain amount have diminishing returns. You your example both would take the same amount of armor piercing dmg and the different in normal dmg would be miniscule. So chosen with more hp and way better combat stats are preferable
I mean, a doomstack like this looks fun but I assume he never considerate where the battlefield isn't allow him to shoot or even monstrous infantry or monsters can fck him up. There are good doomstacks and bad doomstacks. This one is just bad imo.
It doesn't cost that much on instant gaming, and also not everything is worth getting. You should try the base games races first and decide from there :) Or you can get the game pass for 1 month to try it and then see what you want to buy
This is just silly, gelt can solo infantry stacks, so can like 4 hellstorms. Why have a full stack? It’s one time when a balanced army is best for the empire

You just replace 4 hellstorms with 4 hellblasters and easily auto resolve all 3 armies with very low casualties

The most HSRB I got in one army was 6, and that's because I was specifically deploying them to deal with Helman Ghorst.
There was the size of half a football field filled with rat guts. Those rockets turned them into mice filet.

Id go for like 10-12 HS Rockets and add a few more steam tanks if you wish to keep the theme going or ideally add some heroes just to tank shit.

Steam sales happen a lot fortunately. I got 1500+ hours on TWWH3 alone so the $$ spent per hour of play is a big positive for me. Bang for the Buck.
