Types of dementia:
• Lewy body dementia - 1.3 Mil Americans, Parkinson’s Dis
• Frontotemporal dementia - Bruce Willis, effects communication, speaking
• Vascular dementia - lack of oxygen to the brain; stroke, high B/P, narrowing of vessels, diabetes, high cholesterol.
• Alzheimer’s disease - most common, 5 Mil Americans, 850,000 in the UK.
• Limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy - buildup of proteins, usually older adults around age 80 & above.
• Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) - head injuries
• Parkinson’s disease dementia
• Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease - from Mad Cow or abnormal prion proteins
• Huntington’s disease - inherited, neurons die
• Mixed dementia - more than one type of dementia
• Alcohol Related Dementia
