I think I’ll start with a storage room and see how it all works out !! We converted a school too that’s what we live in right now and will be while we build !! We’re probably a bit crazy seeming we are in our mid 60’s but heck !! Mark Irish Just got finished with the foundations of what will be a cordwood garage and workshop. The temperatures have been running around 103-106... and we decided to mix 1/4 inc gravel with sand clay and cement ... it’s been brutal ! But I think today we are finished with the foundations....Halle bloody luyah!! 😁 love your videos !!!
Building a wooden round turntable would allow 1 bag to be filled on one side then rotating the turn table to line up another empty bag, full bags are then removed at 180 degrees from the fill position and new empty prepared for it turn into filling position. Kind like you store bags are on a spinning wheel. The goal being less lifting. Really enjoyed the project. Will you shoot it with a rifle so we can see how bullet proof it is.
How is this building holding up? I would think that instead of adding dirt to make the surface level before adding earth bags that you dig down to make it level or dig down and lay crushed rock up to desired level before earth bags. The colder the climate and deeper the frost line the deeper you dig down.
Hi mike, nope no issues. Everything has held nicely. The only sagging issue we had was when we were building it and it got rained on. If your going to make one I'd highly recommend pointing the bags with mortar every time u go up a few layers to stop it moving
This is a perfect shed idea for my solar system outbuilding. I'm in the desert so no living roof for me. What do you recommend as an alternative to living roof? Maybe sandbags on roof?
Yeye still making them just not uploading them till we settle our local council issues lol. We used pre mixed bags, but iv been doing another roundhouse earthbag build recently and used a 4 to 1 mix of sand and cement

Hi, it´s me again. My earth bag project is moving along quite well. I have a question, though. How do you make the mix for the "pointing" or whatever you call the mortar you put between the layers of bags? I´ll send you pictures of my project when it´s done coz I´ve been using your video for reference. Cheers! Love all your vids.
Ye I got them off Ebay I messaged the seller to get a wholesale discount I bought 4000 lol. Make sure u get uv stabilized plastic though alot of sand bags aren't
Thankyou so much !! I’ve bought Land in Arizona and plan to build an earthbag home !! A little scared on such an undertaking !! you are inspiring so I’m gonna do it lol!! 😊😊
I'd also be interested to know where you got them. Have you seen any of the Cal earth stuff using these techniques with arches and domes? With the addition of a small amount of cement inside the the earth bags their structures went from failing californias standards on earthquake resilience to breaking their test equipment!
Great video. For the love of god though, you have to screen those rocks out of the soil. You lose a good chunk of strength and a ton of insulation value. Clay is a great insulator. Rock is terrible. Great little building.
That is one way for a strong person to build an earth-bag building But filling bags and then transporting them to final install Is to labor intensive.. Fill in place bags is some thing most anyone can do regardless of age or strength.. an excellent example Watch Green Dream Project.. ,,,,,, building their cistern The bag filling device gives constant volume to the bags.. And once filled Folded \Tied and played down is almost no effect compared to carting full bags... The question is Did he complete the build. Yes Are you as strong as he is most people. No
We filled them within 10ft of the build and I know I'm strong but defo is way more efficient to fill them with shovels and move them rather than using a 1l paint tin to fill everybag In place especially 8ft up in the air!!! I ran a time trial with the first layers. My way is best. And we have a bag filling holder. Try watching all the video rather than just spamming a comment 👍

We are a working farm, time is costly. Efficiency is the key to getting things done especially a build like this that's long at the best of times. I think most people attempting a build realise it's a hard process even filling them in place, so anyone attempting isn't afraid of hard work. The bags full weight is less than 25kg wet so easily moveable by my mother and grandmother. A wise man once said theres never any problems only new ways to find solutions 👍

@@jimh4167 1 year late but also would like to point out that the green dream project are in the desert where the bags will dry out faster , you do not want the mix in the bag to dry before the pressing down process and is why i think the GDP couple go straight from mix to bag to laying down to pressing down all within minutes or at most half an hr of each other ,, i also think doing it that way makes each bag more solid because you really get a good pressing/flattening/compressing of each bag

I built up with clay as it's my well inside 👌 its held up great tho so far

Me too!!
I love this... top of my garden perhaps.....
Nice video but dude why no tarp to protect construction. It's only 8x10. A 12x20 tarpvis cheap
how did you get the earth clay sand mix?, did you pay for it, how much was it and what exactly did you ask for?, thanks
that is alot of work. i commend you!
So worth it though in the end I bet! Some pride every time you look at it!
Nice job. What keeps the wall from continuing to lean or fall over? Just the partial back fill?
Ye and the mortar really locks it together, check out the videos on the roundhouse iv been making 👌
Great job
Can you explain why you didn’t do the overlapping on the corners? The over extending of the bags??
Nice to know you can make it square
Circular is way stronger tho 💪
Impresive Stone accent on the way buddy!
This is a great video. I learned a lot... But now I have to go buy some drammamine.
😂😂😂 thanks
Looks great :-)
what a nice finish. how will you get into that great big tank, or dont you need too? I love the stack of logs and the roof.
Thanks:-) there enough room inside to lift the access covers and what not
Brilliant vid. I´m in the process of building my own. Would you mind if I asked you for advice should I run into trouble?
Sure. it's all pretty straight forward techniques tho :-) good luck with yours
@@FieldtoFarm_UK Ta! very much!
Field to Farm nice earthbag cabin. But why you need that huge water tank next to well?
I like to have back ups lol and with 5000l above ground around 8000l or so in the well that gives me months of water as backup
@@FieldtoFarm_UK Never saw this approach, not a bad idea! How you make sure that water stays clean?

I got mine by messaging a company selling them on ebay to get a bulk deal 😁
How much do these bags cost typically?
If you're till around doing videos and stuff can I ask what you used for a plaster recipe? For the exterior wall? I would really appreciate it :)

the only thing i dont like is that it is not on my back yard :-D. thanks for sharing
Why did you bury the wall?
Approximately how many sandbags did a structure this size require? And thank you for sharing your experience.
It's about 600 or so. And no worries :-)

hi its a standard mortar mix mostly sand and cement 3 to 1 for strong 5 to 1 for standard :-)
and good luck with the build, hope it all comes together nicely for u :-)
Awesome
How's this holding up now with the elements?
Perfect, considering adding a second floor in the spring
How much water are you using per earthbag?
None just whatever in 5he soil, we built this in winter so plenty of moisture in the clay for compressing the bags
The morter sticks to the bags well?
Yeye its sticks no probs, moist mix is the key so it can squeeze in a grab all the gaps
Now do one with a minidigger and ton bags
That's the plan for a rifle range in future 👍
How many sand bags you reckon you can get done in an hour?
