Started watching old videos today. (Stuck inside, why not) I am so glad I did because if there is one thing that confuses me time after time is what inks I can use with different types of markers. This is the clearest explanation ever. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I've been stamping for years, but always watch how to vids when a new one pops up. I'm never to old to learn. Or... Remember! LOL. Since there's often the question, after taking so long to get up, was I going to the kitchen or to the craft room? So a how to video on different kinds of ink, is a great thing. One ink that seems very popular is chalk ink. I don't use it. But some newbies might want to know what it's good for. Thanks to y'all for keeping us crafting. Hugs, Jess
I have just recently gone back to scrap booking/card making and found that your video has helped out tremendously and has ended all the confusion with the different types of ink's, Thank you
I just came across this video. I’ve been trying to figure out how to get started with stamping for a while but felt overwhelmed by all the supply choices. This is a great introductory video, thank you so much!
Thank you for this fabulous instructional video...I have a fortune in stamps and accessories and never had a clue how to use and believe me, the frustration level led me to pack it all away! I'm now interested in junk journals and bullet journaling, so I have unpacked my stash and now I know what to start with.
I started out with the Fiskars stamp positioner. I then used the different sized blocks. I've also used the Rock-a-Block by Crafter's Companion. I still use them all.
Great video! I enjoy scrapbooking, and I'm looking for ways to customize my paper. I'd like to learn about stamping, and your explanation helped me understand which supplies I need to buy. Thank you very much.
Great video! Can you do a video about heat embossing for beginners? I'm really interested in it but I have no clue on how to begin or the tools I need. Thanks
Shari Carroll at Simon Says Stamp tested several black inks, made a video and a chart with the results that can be printed. Momento ink smears when water coloring. I tried it out and it does. On her test, Simon Says Stamp Intense Black Ink pad worked well with everything. I don't have this ink pad because I already have the others you mentioned. Good video. 😊
Thank you so much for making this video. I've just started the scrapbooking route and have been considering stamping but didn't know what these clear stamps were that I saw in my craft store. I was just thinking a couple of weeks ago I wished there was someone I could ask and today I came across your video. Thanks for taking the time to produce a video to teach us "newbies" about stamping!
The best and most comprehensive information for stampers ever; you're such a good teacher, Maymay! I'm glad you mentioned the best way to store the stamp pads. Someone told me to do that about twenty years ago, and I've stored them upside down ever since. :)
Brilliant first video! I started this hobby two years ago and I love it but learnt the hard way what not to buy. I have a lot of things I bought cheaply and don't ever use. My other bits of advice to beginner Stampers would be 1. Buy quality products - they have a good resell value if you decide to have a clear out now and again - but beware the addiction that comes with this hobby - you don't need it all! 2. Enjoy yourself! Loving your videos :) xx
I always enjoy your videos, I have been stamping and making cards for almost 30 years. I wish I could have seen this great information when I first started. It would have saved me a lot of headaches and wasted monies. Thank you so very much.
I have had a hard time finding out which ink is for watercolor and for alcohol markers. You answered the question very clearly. Thank you. How about chalk inks? What ink is best for colored pencils or pastels?
Thanks for doing this. Exactly what I would have told people except stamp press. But that is a great idea. It works with bigger stamps too! Great ideas and demonstration. I'm loving the card videos. Prob my favorites!
New subscriber, woohoo. I kept typing the wrong keywords in the search bar and I finally found this fabulous tutorial. I watercolor and am glad you tested each ink sample. Thank you! Shana signing out for now.
Loved this informative video! Could you please do one on heat embossing and how to use various markers/liquid inks, stickles, wink of Stella etc. I've seen these in stores but haven't a clue how to use them. Thank you....Love the way you teach :)
Thank you for information I bought a lot of stamps for upcycle place I have about 20 wood block stamps I got for $1.00 and I received inks also to get me started thank you so much for the videos information...I also love your voice so soothing and not whinny sound love to watch you and thanks and God Bless for helping us beginners
This is a great tutorial it provided so much information. I wish I had seen this before I started investing in things that are now collecting dust. Thank you so much!
+GiftBasketAppeal my fav markers are spectrum noir for alcohol markers, my fave pencils are the Prisma Color pencils. They are so nice. Thanks Tracey!!
I totally Agree Maymay. I have been wanting a video on this for the longest. I almost gave up on Stamping due to poor image with blocks and wishing I could be like the You tubers- but getting the Fiskars saved my Hobby! I highly recommend the Fiskars for a beginner or anyone with hand control issues. PLUS the Fiskars are in expensive! I felt I wasted too much on blocks, cant wait till I get more skill to use them soon!
Thank you for sharing this amazing video! I'm new to card making. I haven't actually started yet. But I've been watching videos and had a lot of questions which you answered most of them with this video. I'm going to look at your collection of videos and see what else I can learn before I go shopping. Thank you very much for sharing your craft! Stay safe and healthy!
I am so glad you explained that Fiskars press because I sure put it back because I couldn’t figure it out but I’m going to go back and get it!! Thanks for getting me going.
I appreciate your advice I'm new to card making and I'm in the process of building my suppliers I always find myself stressing over what I need as a beginner verses what's trending in the craft world . To what my skill level is plus what I can realistically afford your advice made a lot of since to me thanks for sharing .
Thank you May May! Best tutorial ever! I'm super excited to get started!! Love Love Love your videos, you are so inspiring and have the most calming motivational voice.
Just a thought...for those who like the idea of a MISTI but don't want to pay the exhorbitant price for even the tiny one...buy the Tim Holtz Tonic Stamp Platform. It also comes in two sizes, regular and travel, and the larger one is just a shade over $30! I have found that they are made much sturdier than the MISTI and are easier to use, as well as being a fantastic price!
Thank you Maymay for uploading this video. It has helped me a lot. 💜💖😎💗❤️🇨🇦. I have had two of those Fiskars presses for years and I had no idea how to use them. I buy a lot of products and have no idea how to use them. Hugs 💖💜🇨🇦😎💗❤️
I loved this!! I hope you plan on doing one of these for how and when to use certain type of adhesives..like when to use wet glue...score tape....fabritac....etc...hugs, xoxo
I've been stamping for a long time and found this to be a super helpful video. Loved the ink comparison. Had no idea the Distress wouldn't move when alcohol ink was applied!! Sweet!
What a wonderful video. I love how you explain everything in detail and your recommendations. I take them all into consideration when I'm out buying my crafting supplies. Thank you so much.
thank you maymay this video was very helpful and I am a beginner stamper, so I bought the supplies you was talking about I still need few things I'll get them soon, again thanks. ..
I Absolutely love this video. I am a beginner. I just subscribed to your monthly stamp. I can't wait to get my first months next month. I had so many of these questions This is great. Keep up the great videos you are such an inspiration to watch.
Hi Maymay, thank you for ALL the helpful info! How do you clean your stamps? I bought Stayzon spray but it is so greasy that it just makes an oily mess plus my clear stamps won't stick to the acrylic blocks anymore. I have seen other people (including Tim Holtz) just use a towel with water. Thank God I only used the Stayz On spray on a couple stamps...coz I have quite a few stamps. I did invest in the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform too because I was messing up my stamping coz I wouldn't get good ink coverage with the first attempt. I always watch several videos before I purchase expensive tools. Thank you for sharing your knowledge stamping/cardmaking!
Thank you so Much for this video. I have been trying to figure out what the difference was in inks and stamps and you have answered my questions. Thank you
I am a beginner stamper and came across this video AFTER I bought a lot of wood block stamps from a thrift store. I also have acrylic blocks to use with the clear stamps. Would you know of a way that I could reuse the rubber stamp on an acrylic block if I took the stamp off of the wood block?
I found it very helpful. I am a beginner stamper. I know you have some stamps that you've had for years and am wondering how do you clean them? I read soap and water but does that make the sticky stuff on the stamp come off?
+Sue Day I use baby wipes at the time of stamping and then when they are really stained I use squeaky clean cleaner. I carry that in my store. But, soap and water works great and as long as you let the stamps dry with the flat back facing up they won't loose their sticky. Hope that helps!
Hey Maymay. Great share. Wish this was 8 months ago when I started out. Next you really need to do one on paper. I was SOoooo confused when first starting out on card stock and what can be bought at Michaels, ACMoore, JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby. Then I got involved with a card class with Stampin up and throw theirs into the mix that I now have way to much paper in my craft room. Oh and I also have a Silhouette Portrait, much like the Cricut and that REALLY added to the paper addiction. LOL
Thank you. One question, I have some Staz On ink pads. Which of the ink pads that you showed are they comparable to, and/or why do you not recommend them?
+D Houck stazon is a special ink, it is permanent on non porous surfaces and is meant to be used for those types of projects like tiles, or acetate, etc. I used to use it as my everyday inks before I realized what it should have been used for.
I'm new to stamping, thanks so much for this video!!! I was wondering what distress ink was lol now I know, no one ever says on videos. So thanks so much!!!!
Omg that helped sooooo much... Could you do something on beginner embossing? I am so lost with that. I am like new to it all. Thanks again for sharing😊🐚
Thank you, that was wonderful, beautifuIly explained, and I could leave thinking I now understand inks, but then I'll pick up pads saying dye-based, or water-based or oil-based, and I am as confused as ever. What is the difference, please?
+A Rizzo stazon is great ink, it is designed for permanent application on non porous surfaces. I love it and use it often for permanent applications like coasters or acetate.
+Teresa Nifong I store mine in the containers that are used for refrigerator storage. They are clear acrylic containers. I linked a video to how I used to store them in the description. Thanks!
Maymay loved the video! Very informative. Thank you so much for sharing. I love watching all your videos and look forward to each and every one of them!! Have a Blessed Day!!
I'm loving making cards, crafting....However...stamping not so good. I don't have a die cut machine so nothing too cute on my cards. My stamping may be I'm using wrong ink!!! AH!!? Love your videos!!! Thank you for sharing!!! Where is the LOVE button?!?!?!?!!!
I completely agree on the MISTI. I just finally got one recently and I love it. It would have taken so much of the frustration out of some of my early stamping...pressing too hard, bad placement, incomplete stamping etc. I wish I'd gotten one sooner. I'm not really a fan of Memento for black stamping. It doesn't watercolor well for me and I find it works poorly on cheaper clear stamps (even when I've conditioned them). +ani bird I love stazon, it is a permanent ink designed for non porous surfaces. I use it for that all the time. I am not familiar with studio ink. Hope that helps!
Great video. Question: What is your opinion on Staz-On inks? They have black and other co.ors, but I would like YOUR OPINION. Love watching your videos and on periscope when I can catch u.

I love stazon for a permanent application on non porous surfaces. When I first started out I used it all the time because I thought if it stays on then it will work better. It is a great ink, I just use it now for acetate, tile, slick surface, etc. Thanks!
When I first started stamping, I bought many stamps because they were cute, and cheap. Unfortunately, some were silicone and did no take dye ink well at all. I discovered ranger archival ink and now use it on my silicone stamps. The black works great and doesn't bead up on the stamp. So now I can still keep my "Cute" stamps lol.

What is your opinion of stazone ink?
New to stamping and this was so helpful!
Can you explain the difference between card stock and chip board? Please andThank you

Wow! Such an excellent and informative video - I learned so much! Thank you!
Awesome video. Stamping is fun especially with your stamps 😄
What about Brilliance and StazOn ink?
Thank you for this video. Very helpful. Can't wait for the Saturday videos! - JoAnn
Hi Maymay... just a question, what about the Stazon ink ?
I love stazon for a permanent application on non porous surfaces. When I first started out I used it all the time because I thought if it stays on then it will work better. It is a great ink, I just use it now for acetate, tile, slick surface, etc. Thanks!
When I first started stamping, I bought many stamps because they were cute, and cheap. Unfortunately, some were silicone and did no take dye ink well at all. I discovered ranger archival ink and now use it on my silicone stamps. The black works great and doesn't bead up on the stamp. So now I can still keep my "Cute" stamps lol.
I will oder the fiskers press. thank you.
Are there re-inkers for any of those
+hslecrone there sure are. Thanks!
I bought Stazon ink. Is that good ? I mainly stamp Julie Nutting doll stamps.
