This is the best way to describe it; a war. Even when I didn't see any signs of them I still sprayed, vacuumed, and laid out powder for a month because I know their eggs are damn near invisible. A lot of sleepless nights and hard work, and collateral damage. It truly is a war.

My son noticed them in his bedroom mid Dec, 2021. My suspicion was a rental truck he had used a week and a half before. He douced his room with bed bug spray and constantly vacuumed, and had no more evidence of any more bugs and thought they were gone right before he moved out.
Well, the last week of Jan I discovered them on my sofa and freaked out! Also, in my bedroom. Had an exterminator come twice @ $125 an inspection. Said he sees no evidence of any, maybe because I sprayed both areas and vacuumed, as well. Now I am getting rid of alot of clutter which is taking much time and energy. Got rid of matresses, sofa, etc. And am sleeping on an air mattress until I am done cleaning my whole apt. Then I will have the professionals come in and do the treatments needed. I was also wondering if my son could have brought them in from his friends house, who lived in public housing. Been at this residence for 31 years and never had this problem. It's extremely upsetting. These little bastard bugs have no purpose but to live off humans, like ticks. They had to come from Pandora's Box or straight out of hell!

    • @RutgersNJAES

Public housing usually has higher bed bug infestation rates than the rest of the society. It is possible that bed bugs your son brought in were from his friend’s apartment.

@Jennifer Russell ...well, finally finished going through everything in my apt and got rid of alot of unwanted items. Cleaned as much as possible and put everything else in totes to get ready for treatment by a professional. It took me almost three months. What a living nightmare! Hadn't seen any evidence two weeks prior of treatment, but still wanted to have it done.
Had the treatment on May 18th and all seems well, but am still sleeping on an air mattress and not ready to unpack the totes just yet. Thanks for asking. Wish me luck!

Forget about BLAMING! That is not the answer or any part of it. It doesn't matter! They are everywhere! The only way to deal with it is constant surveillance and if you detect one to start IMMEDIATELY to eradicate them. It will take two weeks of constant work and diligence. You cannot run away from them. First step is to steam or heat your mattress and then vacuum it,next cover your mattress and box spring with covers from walmart for approximately $40.This will be your biggest expense but if you can't afford it you can cover everything with cheaper plastic and make sure all openings are taped up very tightly. Next use traps under each bed leg and fill with talcum powder. They cannot crawl on talcum. Vacuum all areas around bed. Diatomaceous earth can be used around the bed and some can be vacuumed to stay in the vacuum to control what you vacuum. Next, heat and steam are very important and will kill them,so if you cannot afford a steamer, you can utilize your steam iron and hair dryer. If the eggs are given a chance to hatch this will be effective to a degree. Again, constant vigilance! Very important! Put everything you can, into the dryer on HOT! This will kill them. Luggage and shoes are suspect. Again, treat with heat or steam. If you have an infestation it will take about 2 weeks to make sure you do not have any eggs hatching. They are everywhere and constant vigilance is necessary. You cannot run away from them. They will track you down because they want BLOOD. Freezing will work too,so you can put your shoes and luggage into a freezer. Good luck and be strong! Don't blame anyone, that doesn't help! Constant diligence!

I discovered BBs after itching in bed and saw them. I live alone which is an advantage, I think. I decluttered EVERYWHERE. Threw out stuff I didnt need. Removed all clothing to the laundry room, washed and wrapped them in plastic bags from which I will get clean clothes from as needed. I bought an incredibly powerful Karcher vacuum cleaner, and vacuum constantly. I keep the vac in my bedroom...If I wake up, I do a check...if I see one I vacuum it up. I just received my mattress and box spring covers, diatomaceous earth, and leg traps for my bed. I have sprays etc too. My thought is that if I can create safe space around the two places I am at the longest time (couch and bed) for 18 months, I starve them out.

Try wearing an adult onesie to bed you know with the footies and everything and put gloves on your hands and possibly even so the gloves onto the sleeves. That only leaves your head and neck exposed. I have even tried to figure out what type of mesh would be able to allow you to breathe easily that you could put over the face part of the hoodie. Obviously you don't want to suffocate LOL but even a medium fine mesh should at least keep the big ones away from you though the small ones could maybe still crawl through

    • @mark-dietz
      @mark-dietz Год назад +2

@@thefountainoftruth6286 If you want to go that route, I suggest going to an outdoors store and checking sleeping bags with a mosquito net around the head. Not sure if they would keep out the tiny ones or not.
So, i did everything I mentioned. My bedroom is BARE. I sprinkled Diatomaceous earth along all baseboards, in electrical outlets/switches, and across door thresholds. I sealed the mattress and box spring, placed those traps under the legs (they work) as Ive witnessed them trying to crawl out of them. They dont get out.
I turned my couch upside down, slit a few small holes in the mesh underneath and shot diatomaceous earth in. I bought a steamer $120 and jam it down into the cushions etc. (the couch is leather) It heats the couch up really hot, but doesnt get it wet really at all, and IMO, forces them to retreat to where the DE is. Basically I gave them a choice of where to die lol.
Its been over 2 weeks now since Ive found one on my bed, couch, or seen any evidence of them. No bites, no blood stains on the sheets etc. Even so I dont assume Ive won. Theyre probably still hiding somewhere, so Ill stay vigilant, and continue treating areas for 18 months. Once things are clear, and you have all the traps etc set up, its really not so time consuming anymore.
      I hope this helps you.

Best treatment is to use steam cleaner to treat mattress, the heat from steam will kill them, then use diatomaceous earth to treat on carpet, use a SHOP VAC to clean carpet with filter not a vacuum cleaner. The diatomaceous earth will destroy a vacuum cleaner and you risk spreading the infestation. No bed bugs with in two weeks. TOP TIP use metal dog bowls under bed frame support, fill bottom of bowls with diatomaceous earth. this will keep them from crawling away and up.

the bed bugs do not just grow from nothing, someone or something has to bring them in, they are no airborne, use your head. and chemical are not the answer, read my comment above, companys that sell chemicals are telling you to use their product. a little DE is cheap to try and see for yourself.

@@jimmieroan9881 1. I don't see your comment, my friend so I dont think she can either. You are right . The companies just want you to buy their product. Such sprays, Teresa, are usually bad for us humans. so not easy to use and you will need a LOT of spray. That means money wasted and your health endangered.
Bed bugs are lazy. They hide close by their blood donor. I threw out my big normal bed, my mattress, all my bed linen and blankets as every layer is more place to hide for them. Get a futon. I got a camp bed and they were hiding in the wooden parts. (They dont like metal). There were just 3 in all. No wonder they were so hard to find.

@@teresastinson7242 To be honest I dont think any spray worked. I almost poisoned myself I sprayed so much and they were still there afterwards. Heating your house is impossible. If you live in a one room bedsit, maybe, but expensive. It does work but room by room which can be impractical. I worked out my bedbugs came from a cheap desktop PC I bought at a car boot sale from some people who dont see them as a problem and just live with them in the country they come from. That is NOT a criticism, in some parts of the world it is impossible to eradicate them so they learn to live with them. The dont kill you nor do they spread disease, repulsive though they are.

you can use all the chemicals all the company's swear by , but you won't kill them all most likely. i have fought them twice in the last 10 yrs at home at once in a hotel. two things i know for sure will kill them for sure with no doubt, heat, you can hear them pop when temp reaches a certain point, but you have to remove items with lower flash points. the other thing is DE, diatomaceous earth, it kills any thing with a exotacious skeleton, period. it's fairly cheap, or was until so many started using a few years ago. always buy the food grade, its white. the larger amount you buy the cheaper it is, if you buy from the gougers you can pay a hundred times over what it sells for. i buy 50 lbs at a time for around 50 bucks, you can buy 10 or 20 lbs pretty cheap if you look for a good price. it is absolutely harmless to humans and pets, you can put it anywhere, but its fine like baby powder so be careful breathing it. i put it in wall sockets, pantrys, window sills, along base boards etc. if your place gets infected bad buy some pillow and mattress covers from the bed bug company, sprinkle DE inside the covers with your mattress and pillows. i put a layer between my box springs and mattress, the invasion for me was in the back bedroom, i covered the wall and floor coming out of that room with a wide line of DE, you can buy a puffer from bed bug supply, squirt this in the walls through cracks , wall outlets and switches, if you have an attic then blow it or throw it all over your attic, this kills water roaches , ants, spiders and of course the bed bugs. the room that was infected was from an outside source, took me a while but they never left the room. you just need to use common sense, put all clothes, bed clothes etc in a plactic bag with DE and leave it for a day, then wash with hot water and dry hot. i sprinkled some in each drawer in dressers and chests and covered with a towel or paper before i put clothes back in. the only problem is it is a powder, doesn't bother me to see white tracks all over the place because it know its safe. this is used by big companys in food storage, people mix it and drink it, brush their teeth with etc, it is 100% safe, you know the chemicals are not.

In general, treatment is only necessary when bed bugs are identified. Evidence of bed bug presence can include bites, live bed bugs, or bed bugs appeared in monitors. Placing Climbup insect interceptors under bed and sofa legs and check them after a few weeks is an effective method to determine if bed bugs are present. At the meantime, you may launder all your bed linens, install zippered encasements to the mattresses and box springs as a preventative method to kill bed bugs in case they are present on bed.

Bed bugs usually stay on bed and sofa where people sleep and rest. Sometimes they are also found away from the sleeping and resting areas looking for a host. Keep frequent laundering, place clutter in plastic containers or bags, vacuuming the floor very often will eventually get rid of the bed bugs. If found bed bugs on sofas, you may steam the sofa or vacuum the sofa very well repeatedly.

Majority will stay on the mattress, box spring, or frame of the bed. They like to stay close to their food (you). They will live in the cracks between the floors and walls. They like any spaces that are tight and dark. They will stay in electrical sockets. If you’re 100% sure your bed is bed bug free it’s imperative you buy bed leg traps that prevent any bugs not living on your bed from getting to you. Make sure your bed is not touching any walls and make sure all blankets are not touching the floor. You have to make your bed an island and use yourself as a trap. You can make C02 traps as well and place them around the bed. RUclips the C02 traps. On top of all the preventative traps you need to spray chemical to ultimately kill them. From my research the best chemical is crossfire. It’s illegal in NY so it has to be good. The diatomaceous earth works but it’s a slow kill. The bugs get in contact with it and it will
Eventually dry them out and kill them. The key to defeating these devil bugs is to take action immediately and once your battle starts you have to stay diligent and patient. You have to think like a hunter/trapper. Always remember once they bite you they are going to lay eggs and multiply. Good luck !

If the car seats are of leather materials, focus on seams, corners, and narrow places. Repeat the process a few times until no bites are found.
