  • Chick Corea’s newest trio features the 20-time Grammy-winning pianist in the company of a stellar rhythm tandem: bassist Christian McBride (Sting, Pat Metheny, McCoy Tyner), one of the most outstanding talents and celebrated musicians of his generation, and drummer extraordinaire Brian Blade (Herbie Hancock, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and the Wayne Shorter Quartet). The three initially forged an indelible chemistry as the rhythmic backbone of the Five Peace Band in 2009.

    How big can Blade's ears grow? It is not only this guy's skills, drumming technique that count. It's his immense musicianship!

    The very best band I’ve listened to in the past decade.
    This is NOT a new Chick Corea Akoustic Band. This is the Corea, Blade and McBride Band … 3 equals. I’ve always loved the Chick Corea Akoustic Band with John Patitucci and Dave Weckl. But this band is on a whole new level … mostly because of Brian Blade, who plays a relatively small set of drums like a melody instrument. So, this band is comprised of 3 percussion instruments (yes, both piano and bass make sound by being hit), and at the same time 3 melody instruments. Just amazing!

    • @marvinkmooneyoz
      @marvinkmooneyoz 4 года назад +3

      Yeah, different flavor band. Akoustic band was more of an acoustic fusion/jazz hybrid sound, this band is more modern jazz. The nature of the group interaction is also a bit different.

      All stringed instruments make sounds when the strings are hit. That does not make all stringed instruments percussion instruments. The piano can be argued either way, but only because little hammers hit strings in it. However a bass, acoustic or otherwise, has NEVER been considered a percussion instrument, you boob. Nice try, though.

    Saw these guys last night in Burlington, Vermont...A total knockout! We laughed, we screamed we even shed a few tears at the artistry and emotional impact of jazz music at its exceptional best. Each in his own right an utterly breathtaking musician...together they're an unstoppable force. They took us out of Trump-world so efficiently that we completely forgot he existed until we were in the car on the way home....watching this show has him mercifully obliterated again. A sincere thank you to Trilogy.

      Total Trump *supporter* , here. But it would seem that this music hit me just as hard as it did you. I cannot get over the amount of virtuosity, here--and STILL, each one of them is as humble about it as can be! I have met both Christian and Brian, in person--same story, there. Just uncanny--and _inspiring_ !

      The two are not mutually exclusive. The reason people pay money to see them is because they're so into the music. Without money exchanged for their enormous dedication to the craft, they would have had to divert their energies to other modes of making an income, and thus, they would not being able to get into the music with as much wholeness and mastery in order to offer us that gift. I hope they have millions.
