Nikasil is a hard wear resistant cylinder coating usually used on aluminum cylinders rather than plain steel or steel sleeved aluminum cylinders. I'm not sure its main purposes is corrosion resistance but I'm sure it's good for that too. This is usually seen on high performance engines, motorcycles, snow machines, small engines etc. with aluminum cylinders that are Nikasil coated rather than using steel sleeves or having the cylinders cut right into a cast iron block. This process makes for lighter weight and transfers heat better than plain steel sleeves or cast iron block cylinders do. But normally if a Nikasil cylinder gets damaged, it needs to be replaced or recoated rather than bored oversize or resleeved like a steel or cast iron cylinder block can be repaired.
I wonder if your engine has hardened valve seats in it? I would hope so, because then if and when there gets to be 100 unleaded av gas out there you could probably about double oil change intervals with cleaner engine internals. No more cleaning spark plugs, sticky valves, less combustion chamber deposits, most likely longer TBOs etc. Although UL will cost more, unfortunately.
I'm not sure, but I'll ask! I'm a huge fan of moving beyond 100LL and hope to get GAMI 100UL on the field asap. I think a field like KBDN would. Happy to pay a little more for all the benefits. Thanks for the info!
Oh NOOooo,,, oil!
🤣 ikr
